Office Pro i excel is inserting in hyperlink word pasted row which have a worksheet which has cells A C copied and pasted into word as RTF link all is good and the numbers update as required here is my problem the rows have data containing each month for the current year now when we start a new year i would like to insert a inserting excel row which is hyperlink pasted in word row in excel so that i can add each additional month however i do not want to have a bunch of extra rows to be used for just in case then i need this extra row to show up in the word document for inserting excel row which is hyperlink pasted in word which it is linked now here is the bigger problem when i go to the word document and select update link it will insert the new row i put in but it will push the last row of the word document how can i do this so that my all the rows that i want will be visible i e not be pushed off thanks nbsp

In Excel 2010 sheet 1, I enter document name "Text.doc or docx" into column A1 cell. Is this possible the sheet1 A1 cell could auto search "Text" document from sheet 2 at column A "k:\project base\text.doc" if match on that hyperlink then auto open "text.doc" file.Thanks for your help again.

We have an old MS-DOS program that runs from a batch file. When I try to access the program by clicking on it's hyperlink in an Excel spreadsheet, the program does not load (you can see the command line screen briefly, but it disappears). I can load the problem without any problems from it's network location, so I know the program is working. What is preventing the program from working/loading in Excel?

I am trying to create a macro that will look at the contents of a cell and insert it into an address on the server. For example, the contents of the cell is: folder\file

The location to hyperlink to is: \\server\share\folder\file.doc

I need to keep the file extension in the macro so that clicking the link will automatically open the file. I just need to get the contents of the cell to fill in the folder name and file name.

Unable to open Microsoft Office documents(excel,word) in Internet Explorer when we enforce strict TLS 1.2 protocol (Disabling SSL v2,SSL v3,TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1)on the webserver. We tested by removing strict TLS 1.2 and IE is able to open the document fine.
Error description : We see a Microsoft Excel Security Warning with the following content.
Certificate error
The application experienced an internal error loading the SSL libraries.

When we disabled SSL V2 and SSL V3, the document opens fine but when TLS 1.0 is disabled we are seeing the  pop-up with certificate error. We tried to open the reports in CSV format, 2007 format and 2003 format and all of them have the same issue. Does
Internet Explorer have any restrictions when TLS 1.2 is strictly enabled ?

Note : We are able to download the document using Internet explorer and the document opens fine from local but opening the document from the browser fails with certificate error.

In Word 2000 under Insert Hyperlink, Word maintains a listing of recent files or browsed pages that you can use to insert hyperlinks into your document.

Is there someway to "flush" that list, when it become so long or so outdated as to begin to lose utility for the end-user? There must be some way to do that, since I noted that my files list (either at home or work) recently was zeroed out in the last couple of weeks or months.

Okay, we have at least a partial answer to this question. Apparently if you flush your recently visited internet page history from your default browser, you will simultaneously delete the recently browsed pages under Insert > Hyperlink in Word 2000.

I have hyperlinked to a .wav file in an MS Word 2007 document, and the sound file plays without opening a media player.

Problem is the sound file is 10mins long, and I have no way of controlling the .wav file once I have activated the hyperlink.

Pressing escape stops the sound, but I cannot pause or rewind.

The hyperlink seems to be opening the sound file as an 'embedded' object that I have no control over.

During a presentation, I need to be able to pause the sound or even rewind it.

Why doesn't MS Word allow me to open the hyperlinked sound file in a media player?

Hey all,

I have come to you in a fit of desperation. My USB drive was stolen recently and my master Excel data file was lost, which contained all my compiled data from my most recent lab experiment.

Anyway, I have charts of all the important stuff in a word document. The data is there, I can hover on each data point and see the values, and the axes and chart are all accessible for editing.

My question is, how the heck do I extract that data back out of the chart into a table or Excel spreadsheet? There MUST be a way that is better than copying down each data point one at a time

I am still running Windows XP with Office 2007. Suddenly neither Excel or Word will automatically open existing files when I click on them from windows explorer. I can go to the Open option in the menu bar for Excel or Word, select the file to open and it will then open properly. Are there any option settings that allow for the files to open when click on them? I do not receive any error messages nor does the event viewer provide any error messages.

I'm trying to insert from Word into Excel using Insert-Object-Create From File.

The tab I'm inserting it into is set up correctly (in this case Landscape Legal). But when I view, it only has the first page (of two) from the Word document. I've given it enough space page break wise.

Is there a better way to do this than my first idea (insert one document for the first page, and another for the second)?

I know it seems it should work, but it doesn't. I'd just copy and paste special between Word and Excel. In Excel, use Edit | Paste Special | Text.

Select All in the Word doc. In Excel, widen column A, format to wrap text, and do the paste special | text.

Not as quick as Insert | Object, but it works.

Excel cannot open the file " " because the  file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches.
Files got corrupted at time of virus removal. also have and use Carbonite backup if that helps.
Already tried:
Open MS Excel in your system.
Click on File tab > Open. Or press Ctrl+O.
Locate the corrupted XLSX file and select it.
Click on the arrow shown beside the Open button.
Click on Open and Repair in the list.
Still wont open files, any help would be appreciated

Recently, when I open either my MS Word or Excel programs, and click on the yellow "Open" folder, whereas previously a list of my saved documents came up, now sometimes the page is blank! I lost a few hours of work due to:
Suddenly unable to save a file in Excel. No warnings etc. Blissfully working (and saving) along but when I boot up again later I found the file 'not saved' but a random number file eg; BDF45000 in directory. Opens up in Excel but with only some data.

I did:
Run repair, Office 2003 Proff. (No change)
Check for 'read only' (Not the problem)
Use Reg Mechanic, cleaned up and defragged... (No change)
Save under different name. (No change)

I use AVG... could it be that a third party app interferes with a 'proper save'?.. or AVG interference whilst excel tries to save? I am a bit paranoid at this stage... not trusting the pc. Ideas?

I have tried an easier way to copy contents of an excel spreasheet into Word .doc.

Using this site I have found that in Excel copy one large range and Edit-> Paste Special ->
Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object, and this will copy text and tables to Word.

One problem is that the backgound cell lines in Excel also get copied. How can you remove those, in Excel I presume before the copy.

I have Office 2003 with a Vista operating system. Everytime I try to do a mail merge to create label with a Excel csv file it forces me to close the application.

I can complete the mail merge using the same file on any other computer. The only why I can get the mail merge to work is to save a csv file as a regular excel file. It doesn't matter what csv file I try on, it just crashes word.

Tried unistall and re-install of Office and the problem is still occuring.

I don't know why word won't allow me to use th csv file type.

I have a many-page document in Word 2002. Is there a way I can use a hyperlink to jump to a different page? It looks to me like I can only hyperlink to the top of the document, a footnote, or headings.

To the best of my knowledge, you can only hyperlink to another section of the same document if the area you wish to hyperlink to is a heading text (as opposed to normal, etc) or a bookmark.

Highlight the area you want to be the hyperlink.

1. You can either right click your mouse or click insert on the top menu bar.
2. Click hyperlink.
3. Choose the 'place in this document' button on the left hand side of the hyperlink window.
4. You will be offered a choice of subjects you can link to.
5. Click the subject that you want to link to.

I am having a goofy problem with .doc and .xls files. If I attempt to open them from either Windows Explorer or My computer, I get the "This file is already open" error but then you can then change the file and save it.
However, I can then execute the application and open the file from within the app, it works fine and doesn't give the error.
Any help would be appreciated. I have found traces of this error on the internet but have not found any satisfactory solutions to it. Thanks

I have a hyperlink in an Excel spreadsheet pointing to a jpg on my hard drive. ACDSee is my default program to open jpg's but when I click on this hyperlink, the jpg opens in Internet Explorer 7.

I have a question regarding Hyperlinks in excel.

I have the hyperlink names in a column. i.e. ID no. which is the display name for the link.
The link then points to a site for that ID number.

I know that if you highlight the display name & Right click, you have the hyperlink option, you can then copy the hyperlink and paste it in a new column, so that it displays the actual link, which is what I would like to do.

However, I have hundreds of the display names in this column, I'd rather not have to do this on each one.

Is there away I can highlight all of them and extract the actual link to a new column?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Recently, I'm having slow file loading while opening ms word files and excel files directly from windows explorer. It takes a minute to load, however it opens immediately if I open .doc files or .xls files directly from their application software. It also take a minute for MS Word and Excel software to shut down.

Recently used file list has become unavailable in Word 2002 and XL 2002.

In weak ui under the parnoia tab is an option to clear the recently open'd or used files.

I did'nt know tweak could extend this function to app's other than windows .

This problem has probably been addressed here before, but I haven't found it, so will ask it again. Word is supposed to allow data access from other files types such as Excel and Access, for mail merge source and other file linking. These file types are not recognized by Word. If I try to open an Excel file as a data source, all I get is a text file with garbage and a message box asking how to convert it.
Using Office 2003 with all patches and fixes. OS is Win2K with all patches and fixes.
I suspect it is a problem with OLE or DDE, but I don't know how to track it down. I've tried repairing the Office installation with no success.

I have inserted a "Top of Documrnt" hyperlink in a document but am unable to activate it.
The only way it will avtivate is to rightt click and select "Open Hyperlink".
Please advise how to get it to activate by clicking it or passing curser over the hyperlink. TKS BOB A

Would be grateful if anyone could advise on a problem with Word hyperlink jpg nothing does 2003 hyperlinks in Word Win XP - I have created standard hyperlinks to various files doc avi and jpg in a Word document The doc and avi files display with no problem when clicked on but nothing much happens when I click on any of the links to jpegs The cursor briefly shows the hourglass so it is doing something but then it reverts to the pointer and that is it I am sure the pathnames are correct - and if they weren t Word would display Word 2003 jpg hyperlink does nothing an error message It seems to be failing to launch the associated viewer Windows Picture and Fax Viewer intially or perhaps not even trying If I double-click on any of the files in Windows Explorer they are displayed with no problem I have tried changing the associated application to Paint for instance and again the images open with no problem from Explorer but nothing Word 2003 jpg hyperlink does nothing happens if I click on the corresponding link in Word This is computer-specific because if I open the same document on my laptop and click on on a links to a jpg it opens in Internet Explorer One thing I am wondering is whether Word ignores the normal file extension association and makes its own choice about which viewer to use Other than this I cannot see why the jpgs should fail to display Have searched the internet quite thoroughly and failed to find a reference to this problem with Word It is a fairly high spec PC without other known glitches nbsp

I am having a problem removing hyperlinks from Excel-the problem is that every time I remove a hyperlink in one cell, hyperlinks appear iand multiply in other cells. Eventually, nearly all cells are hyperlinked. I have copy and pasted (as value only) on a new worksheet only to have the same thing happen in a short time. Is there anyway to mass eliminate hyperlinks? Is this a program bug?

I am trying to create a hyperlink from an excel spreadsheel to a folder on our network drive. Everytime I go to create the link it locks up trying to see the network. This doesnt happen when I am just browsing the network through explorer. Any ideas if there may be a setting in excel that needs to be changed?

What I have noticed in Ms Office that when you link or want to browse to a network drive or drives explorere freezes up, I let it wait and after app 5 minutes something happend.
I looks like some timeout issue when reading the available mapping over the network, each mapping takes about 15-20 seconds so start adding up!

I generally kill the process and restart it and then it works instantly. In my cxase office 2003 so I am guessing it's a Vista/7 issue.

I don't have any solution for it (yet)

I want to be able to enter a number in a cell and have it automatically become a hyperlink to a row on another worksheet in the same workbook. Say I enter "23" then whenever I click that cell it will take me to row 23 of the other worksheet. Thanks in advance.

I think what you're asking is doable in VBA. But with a little compromise- can be esily achieved with a simple formula. The compromise being that the hyperlink will be an adjacent/another cell and not the actual cell in which you enter the row number for your jump-to location.

Say you enter the the row number you require in cell sheet1!D3, then you could have the hyperlink in sheet1!E3 containing the formula

=HYPERLINK("#Sheet2!" & D3 & ":"& D3,"Row number " & D3)

which would take you to the desired row number in worksheet 2.

I am very new to using Macros but I am trying to create a new one that creates a new hyperlink and new file when ever a cell in column A has a value put in it.

What I would like is for the MAcro to take the Value of A1 and impose that value into the name of the new document (which would be created as part of the Macro), which is then shown as a hyperlink in A1.

This process could then repeat down the rows.

Would this be possible?

I have a question on adding a hyperlink from my intranet website to an excel worksheet:
The actual complete workbook is located on a LAN folder on our computer system... I want them to be directed to a specific worksheet w/in a workbook in excel. Is there a way to do this? Thanks so much!

If your sheet name contains a space, then you need to enclose it in single quote marks, like this:

I havecreated an Excel spreadsheet. I have hyperlinked various cells to other foldersbut I’m getting a warning (See Below) appearing when I click inside the cellwhich has been hyperlinked, the warning says that the folder I am linking to isan “unsafe location do you want to continue Y/N “. I click yes and the location opens.

Im looking to remove Recently used e-mail addresses: in the Insert Hyperlink.

So you insert a hyperlink. Down at the bottom left hand corner left click on E-mail Address.

Were it says Recently used E-mail addresses:

Then gives a list of addresses used.

How do i delete email addresses i dont want in there?

It only leaves me the option to click and not remove.

I have created buttons with hyperlinks to other excel sheets in the same workbook, but I would like the sheets to appear with the selected cell being the last one which was edited/saved on that sheet.I can only find how to either go to a specific cell or, by omitting the "cell reference", cell A1.Any solution please?

I have a user who has an off and on problem with a particular mapped drive and PowerPoint, Excel, and Word (all 97). The drive letter is R and it's where plenty of data is stored for multiple people to use (those who have rights). She'll use the File>>Open command and move to the R drive. Sometimes there is no problem. Other times the mouse cursor will turn into an hour glass and hang the machine.

I haven't had any luck finding anything on this type of problem. Any ideas? We're running NT Server 4 on all servers and Win98SE on all clients.

Just recently, any inserted hyperlink in Word is now showing up looking like this, with this odd trailing subscript capital T after the standard underlined hyperlink itself:

Does any one know why Word 2000 hyperlinking has a nice option to hyperlink a document by just clicking on the folder name(s) and then on the document itself. Outlook (both 2000 and 2002) makes you type in the the complete path and file name such as file\\my documents\helpme.doc. Users just can't do the file name thing. Can Outlook be changed so that hyperling is like word? I have attached a file if you want to see what I am talking about.

I have a question about inserting a hyperlink into a word 2003/2007document. Is there any way to have a link insterted without the user having to press ctrl to click on the link? I have tried with the full path as the link and also using a a keyword pointing to a url but each time the user has to hit ctrl to open the link. Is there anyway a user can just click the link to go to a webpage?

I have a word document that is littered with hyperlinks. The links themselves work fine, but for some reason, most of them are not blue anymore! All I'm really looking to do is try to find a way to use a macro or something to go through the document and add the "Hyperlink" style format to each hyperlink.

I tried to edit some macro code myself (one that changes all the links URLs), but I keep making the problem worse! I used to be good at VBScript, but it's been ages since then.

Any easy solution that doesn't involve manually changing each style?

As a side note, all of them currently are in "Normal" style, for some reason.

I have many sites that I frequent that I have saved in a word document. I click on each one and it opens a new tab for each in firefox. My question is this. Is there anyway to open all links automatically or with a click, without having to click each one, that are located in a word document?

For example, the add on to firefox where you can draw a square around many links at once and they will all open. Hope this makes sense and thanks

Running Excel 2003, I can't create a hyperlink because I am getting this error, "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". Since this is my personal computer what do I need to change to make my hyperlink work?


Upon further research, this is what I did to fix it. : See

Edit Registry, Part 2

Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
Right click the value for the .html key and select Modify...
Change the value from "ChromeHTML" to "htmlfile" (or from FireFoxHTML to htmlfile)

I was wondering whether any of you can help me. I am using the following hyperlink in excel. When a user clicks on it it open up another excel spreadsheet, in a different area on a shared drive.

Now this work fine. However I was wondering whether or not it is possible to also direct it to a cell or row of cells. I am using Excel 2003. I have tried the actual hyperlink icon and this works until I come to saving the spreadsheet and I get an error to say it cannot save certain elements and when I go back in to it the link no longer works.

Hi, I have got an Excel spreadsheet which has incident numbers in column A. For each of these incidents I need to put in hyperlinks which are very very similar. The first part of the hyperlink is the address to the database and the second part is the Incident number itself. I need help with Excel. I have been using Excel 97. I creat cost reports on jobs. When we have a vendor to pay that vendor and amount of invoice is typed into cell. In the past I have been scanning the invoice in jpg form and saving it to a zip disk. Then I insert hyperlink. Then when I click on that vendor and invoice a copy pops up. Well yesterday I started getting a error message and I can't get any of my hyperlinks to work on any of the worksheets. The error message is "An unexpected error has occurred".

I am not sure how to go about this macro. I am trying to produce a hyperlink in a column (equipment info) but as it goes down a row change the hyperlink to reflect its file name that is found in a different column.

so the hyperlink location is "\\SNOGP01\poshare\PoShare\North Omaha System Files\10 Year Mechanical Plan, major plant equipment\1AC-1A Info & Name Plate.docx"

The next one down would need to change the "1AC-1A" to "1AC-1A-M"

I am new to this site and to the world of macros. I am creating a form in Excel for my company and cannot find any info for creating a macro for hyperlinked info.

Background of my form:
It's a time off request form. My dad (who knows a lot of Excel and macros (but not this kind)) has helped me get to where I am at this point.

Currently I have a dropdown for employee names. Once a name is selected, it automatically fills in their manager and department number. I have a Reset Form button to clear info out and would like to create a Submit Form button that would send the form to the manager. Is something like this possible?

I'm guessing it would need to pull from my Tables sheet.

Help! I hope I made some sense.

I'd like to be able to click on a cell in Excel97 and rather than going to a URL or location in a file, I want to open a folder so I can see what files are in it. Is this possible? If so, how?

A:Creating a hyperlink to a folder from Excel

In Excel, with the cell selected you want the link to appear in, go to Insert>Hyperlink, enter the text you want displayed in the top field and the path to the folder in the "Type the file or web page name" field. It has to be exact, no typos. For example, I just tried it with C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\My Documents\Miscellaneous and when I clicked on the link it made, it opened that folder.

Being the lazy sort, I just opened that target folder in Windows Explorer first and copied the path from the address bar, then pasted it in. That method also avoids typos.

Trying to make a spread sheet with some weblinks. Some links are very short and will fit on the page, others run off the page onto another one. Is there any secret to shortening the link. It's even too long for landscape

I am trying to create a hyperlink in Excel that will open up a specific page from a .pdf file stored on a network drive. Unfortunately I am only able to get the pdf file to open to the first page. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

i would like some assistance with inserting a hyperlink within an excel document. Within this same spreadsheet there are a number of both word and excel docs. These links all work. The pdf ones don't and comes up with the message NO PROGRAM IS REGISTERED TO OPEN THIS FILE. If I go to the folder it is stored in it opens fine. help would be appreciated.

I have a spreadsheet in Excel 2007 to which I want to create a hyperlink to an external website, which contains a special calculator, I will need to make reference. The link has been placed in a cell of the spreadsheet and would appear activated, as blue, but clicking on cell does not open the website.

Can someone advise what I may be doing incorrectly;please?

So I havea pdf (hundreds of pages) that is stored online for my company and I am trying to create a hyperlink in excel to take people a page 15 in the document. I've tried adding #page=15 and when I click the link it still takes me to first page in the document (as a result of url losing the #page=15). When I copy and past the link into the browser it obviously retains the page callout and work correctly.

Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

I can't get a hyperlink I put in an Excel worksheet to open a Publisher file. If I point the hyperlink to another types of files (e.g., Excel, or Word, or jpg file) it works fine. But if I try to point the link to a Publisher file I get the message that "...some files contain viruses ... blah blah... Do you want to open the file?" I click OK then get the error message "Publisher cannot find the file you specified. The next dialog box will let you browse to locate the file....." Then I locate the file, click OK, and it opens. Same path and filename. I've pointed Publisher files all over my computer with the same results.

Any ideas???

I get the same message you do, but it then opens right up.

Are your publisher files associated with the correct Publisher program?

Do you know how to set a file association? I would double-check it just to be sure.

Meanwhile, never hurts to clean up your PC in case some temp file is getting in the way: and then maybe try running detect and repair on Excel.

Hi all,
Using Excel 2010 and Acrobat X.

I have a spreadsheet with a list of names in one column and email addresses in another column. I want to combine them so that the name is displayed and the email address is a hyperlink. I can do this easily by using =hyperlink("mailto:"&a1,b1). The problem is that I then need to convert the document to PDF. The conversion will keep manual links, but not links created with the hyperlink function. I've seen a couple of suggestions such as saving the spreadsheet to HTML and then converting to PDF or a rather ingenious solution to copy the contents of the worksheet and then use Acrobat X to create a PDF from the clipboard. Both of those work, but they lose things like the borders around the cells and the repeating rows at the top of each page.

Computer: Intel 1.7 GHz, 1 GMB RAM, 2 40GB drives in RAID, Windows 2000 Pro. My profiles [all] are set at administrator level.

Suddenly [today], macros and hyperlinks have changed.

Macro setting has reverted to high in Excel, I get a message that I must adjust settings or used signed macros.

Hyperlinks do not work – at all – in Excel. The message: “Operation cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.”

I have Excel 2007. Today, (never previously), when I click on a hyperlink to send an email to the subject, I get a Microsoft Office Excel message "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator".

To my knowledge I have done nothing to create this. The only remedial action I have tried is a reboot, but the problem persists.

Can anyone offer any solutions please?

A:Hyperlink Problem in Microsoft Excel

Hi! This is a common problem it means that a registry key is corrupted or broken. As it's a hyperlink your dealing with the most probable change of fixing this is by:
1. Click Start, click Run, and then type regedit in the Run dialogue window.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Restrictions
3. Look for a file called NoBrowserOptions, if it exists then delete it. If it doesn't then post back.
