Preferred Solution: Buying a new system

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Buying a new system

Something stands out to me straightaway:

PROCESSOR ? Intel® Core? i7-930 Processor
MEMORY ? 8GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM memory (4x2048MB for ultimate performance) (expandable to 24GB)
MEMORY SLOTS ? 6 DIMM (240-pin, DDR3) (two available)

I'm pretty sure this processor (and therefore the motherboard) utilise triple channel memory. You can't actually use triple channel with 4 sticks, it has to be in sets of 3. So its likely the first 3 are triple, and the final 4th one, is single channel (assuming it can work like that).

That fact its running like that would put me off alone - If that's acceptable, what else is been done to cut corners elsewhere....

Hey guys, I am just wondering if you know some sites other than newegg and tigerdirect who is still selling barbone systems with AGP card and at least a dual core processor. More of the systems that comes out has a PCI Express slot and I'm stuck in AGP 8x so I was wondering if you know some sites that still sells a barebone or a complete system with agp 8x and dual core processor (AMD better) .

Thanks for your reply. I only know so far that gigabyte board still release and sell latest board that supports this chips w/ agp 8x on it. What about the other brands?

I want to buy a new PC but I am totally confused with

(1) Hyper Threading
(2) Dual Core
(3) Core Duo
(4) Core 2 Duo

I barely started understanding that P4 3.8 GHz was the fastest sometime ago.

But now with above 3 how do they compare to P4 3.8 GHz in terms of Processing power ?

How much faster is the Latest Core 2 Duo in terms of P4 3.8 Ghz.

What is the difference between Core Duo, Core 2 Duo & Dual Core ?

Thanks
Kevin

A:Help Buying New System & CPU

I barely started understanding that P4 3.8 GHz was the fastest sometime ago.Click to expand...

a fast clock does not nessecarily guarantee better performance. an AMD processor of equal performance would run much closer to 2 GHz, for example.

How much faster is the Latest Core 2 Duo in terms of P4 3.8 Ghz.Click to expand...

in a word, very. the core2 duo runs more than 1 GHz slower but it is far more advanced, thus enabling it to leave the older 3.8GHz P4 in the dust. given the low cost of a core2 CPU and the massive increase in performance, there is no reason to build a new system using any other intel processor, and most AMD processors if truth be told.

What is the difference between Core Duo, Core 2 Duo & Dual Core ?Click to expand...

core duo was an older line of processors from intel, and is easily outperformed by the new core2 unit. dual-core is a processor design that combines two CPU cores into one single unit. think of it as having two CPUs in 1.

if you're interested in buying a new computer but find yourself unsure of what to put in it or how to do it, check out a local PC repair shop or talk to a PC technician. such enterprises can build a custom PC to fit your needs and budget. do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT buy a mass-produced branded system, also known as an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) build. examples of OEM systems are dell, gateway, sony, hp, compaq, emachines, and so on. OEM systems are generally not built to industry standards and use lower quality parts.

i'd be glad to reccomend what to get in your new system if you post what you intend to use the system for and how much money you are willing to spend.

I'm gettig ready to buy a new system. I'm buying a dell xps720 with 2.4g quad core(q6600) 512mb 8800gt graphics, xfi extreme gamer sound. I'm not sure if i should get a 250g 8mb cache hd, with 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram, or 320gb 16mb cache hd,with 3gb ddr2 800mhz ram, both configurations cost the same within $10. The operating system is vista home premium. The system is going to be used for gaming primarily. which is better for gaming smaller hard drive & more ram, or larger hard drive & less ram? Thanks in advance for your help.

My friend needs a new comp for college and his parents won't let me build em one which is stupid. They want buy a complete comp from one of them companies like dell or somethin. which company would be the best? also i think they wanna spend like 600-700 ish and this is for a desktop not laptop. i think core 2 duo is out of the question for that price range so i'm guessing the next best thing would be amd?

This site is starting to scare me away from XP chips, it seems like every other post is asking why does my XP blah blah blah only read as blah blah. Why does my FSB 333 only read as 100, and so on. Then they go on to state that they had to flash bios (which can destroy your MB) set jumpers and so on. If I'm going to pay $1000 plus for a system, that had better be done already for me, or I'm going to be pissed. My question is, how do I check to see if system is configured properly when I get this pc? Is all this stuff in the bios?

I currently lack the budget for my high end rig and would like to ask if buying a Gainward GTX 680 Phantom right now and placing it in my low end rig be okay?

A:Buying a high-end GPU for a low-end system

I wouldn't call your rig a "low end system." However, I don't think your computer will be able to take full advantage of what the GTX 680 can do. If you plan on upgrading your CPU or motherboard soon(6 to 12 months) I'd say go ahead and get it. Even though your rig cannot let the 680 "be all it can be," you will certainly get a LARGE increase in performance. It will also some what future proof your system. Only thing I'm worried about is your power supply, can you give me more details on the make and model of your PSU?

A:buying a new system...need advice

This is a completely good system for the purposes you stated. However remember that this is an OEM computer and from a good company. So the computer may use a lower end motherboard and CPU but because it is pre built the parts will probably be good quality. what it comes with will be fine, at least I'm pretty sure of that.

A:Building/Buying a New System

The system you listed is a good price. Dont like the included power supply.
The Gateway system, while refurbished has someone else's mileage on it- does it come with warranty's of the same length as new product? If not, would this bother you?
I quickly put together a system based on your pre-built. I came up with:
Motherboard : Gigabyte H55M-UD2H ($105)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128421
CPU : Intel i3 530 Retail ($130)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115222 i3 530
RAM: G.Skill 2x2Gb DDR3-1333 CL8 ($100)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231189
PSU : BFG 550watt modular ($60)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817702010
Chassis : Cooler Master Centurion 534 mid tower ($51)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119106
Harddrive: Samsung Spinpoint F1 750Gb ($73)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152100
Optical drive : Sony Optiarc CD/DVD burner ($32)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118032
$551 + shipping and local tax.+ the 9500GT card you listed in your post

The card you have picked is good for only very light gaming.
Something like this...
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824
is a quantum leap above the 9500GT and also supports native 7.1 sound over HDMI
This...
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102859
gives you a degree of future proofing and has excellent connectivity.
Both these graphics cards would be supported by the BFG power supply with ease, but not with the Ultra PSU listed in the prebuilt.

You could probably save a few dollars by checking out other etail/retail in your country (Tiger Direct, Direct Canada, NCIX etc) but a good system is do-able on your budget

I want to get a new system and since most that you can get, unless you get one built buy someone who knows something unlike me, come with windows Vista. I'm looking to find out more information about it. Is there many compatibility issues. Could I use my Microsoft Office XP or do I have to get 2007. Can someone point me in the direction to answer all the questions I may have. I don't us my computer for much. Pretty much only loading picture & printing and Online usage. So what should I do?

A:Considering buying a new system.... VISTA?

Here is my 2 cents worth...

From what I have read and talked with others first hand running Vista the real issues have to do with pre-Vista software (is there any other?) and driver compatibility or hardware drivers and Vista. Some issues will cause you hair pulling.

Those that have it running love it or at least like it. I also know those who run both Office 2003 and 2007 and both work fine. Even Open Office 2.0 is working fine with Vista.

I have an old Dell XPS 630i Gaming Desktop and the current video card (ATI HD 4850) crapped out. No longer working where I have jagged edges through the screen... That said I am looking for a possible upgrade from 4850 to something a little high. Not too high because I don't want any bottleneck performance issues. The processor is Quadcore Q6600 @ 2.40 ghz.

Also my budget for new card would be under 100$ - Any suggestions are welcomed. Will only be using this desktop for light / medium gaming at most. Any ATI / Nvidia card will do although i generally like Nivdia cards better...

Is this your manual?

http://www.antec.com/pdf/manuals/TP-750_Manual_EN.pdf

It specifies 25A on each of its four +12V rails, but with a total not to exceed 62A. (It's more than you need for a single GTX 680.)

I guess that the I5-760 ought to be adequate. 8GB of DDR3-1333 ought to be fine too. Going to DD3-2133 may be a waste, but a relatively inexpensive waste.

Old desktop with Windows XP dying. Have a choice of buying today a desktop with Windows 7 Home OS (8GB) or Windows 7 Professional OS (4GB) - same price. My brother-in-law is in the market for a new p.c.
He went to Besy Buy to shop around - found a comp he likes. The sales guy told him that he needs a surge protector with a backup battery that will run the p.c. for 30 minutes in the event of a power failure.

He also said that with new computers a regular surge protector is not enough. He said the warranty will be void if he does not buy the battery backup surge protector. He said all new 2.* processor computers need this feature.

Is this true? I have never heard of such a thing. I am curious if the sales man is handing my Bro-in-law a line of crap.

Sorry if this is the wrong area to ask this type of question, but it seemed appropriate to me.

Sometimes true... but you may find a big anomaly between the X2 and X3. Weird things can happen. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's web site to see if both X3 and X2 are supported. Remember, you have chipset software to worry about as well.

Hi again,
A friend of mine asked me to update his incredibly sluggish computer, and it's obvious for me that he needs significantly more RAM than he has right now.
The said computer has two slots, being one occupied with a 1GB stick.

My question is, should I buy a 2x1GB stick or a 2GB stick (same speeds, but different brand) in order to get optimal performance and stability?
(I still ponder getting 2x2GB, but I don't believe he's willing to pay ?39 for it).

Best regards,
Pedro.

A:Buying some RAM

If his motherboard supports it, I would get two sticks and run them in dual channel. When using ram always match sticks of the same to avoid issues.

Hi there. I'm getting a new Dell 17" LCD monitor soon that has a resolution of 1280x1240 (or something like that) and a 12ms response time , but it has no DVI port. Does this really matter? and how good is the 12ms response time?

I use the computer mainly for surfing website, development and some graphic design with photoshop and maybe flash soon. I might play games sometime but it's less likley. And i'm probably going to go dual screen soon.

and again , do i need a DVI? and how would the 12ms response time be?
thanks in advance

A:buying a new LCD need a little help

For your use, the 12ms response time will be just fine. I have two 19" monitors on this system, one a 25ms one, and one a 12ms one. I don't see any difference in my development use. You don't need DVI, though I'd be tempted to buy one with a dual interface so that you can run either. Also, many adapters have DVI and VGA, so it makes connecting dual monitors easy, one DVI and one VGA.

A:Buying a new rig

Looks like quality parts to me.

Is there a 64 mb cache version of those Samsung drives?? Just a minor point.

I didn't look at the case specs, but you might consider aftermarket case fans as the supplied fans are often noisier than they need to be for the amount of air they move. I'd make sure the case will accept 120 mm fans.

Are you sure the mobo has all the ports you need?? eSATA for instance?

Is that Seasonic modular?? You might consider their X series modular 560 or 650 watt models if it is not modular.

Hello,
I have a small request. I am quite new to the pc scene and have no idea what to get. I want a pc with which I can run my engineering programs such as MATLAB and AutoCAD or Solidworks, but also want a pc that will run games such as forza horizon 3 and Arma 3 in Ultra settings without any frame drops. Would it be possible for you to make me a build which would suit me? I found this PC - click here seems to have amazing parts for a very decent price but dont know the catch to it as there are no reviews of it anywhere.
I have a budget of upto 1100£ and would greatly appreciate your help.
Best regards and many thanks,
Batu

the problems with window's has forced me to study Steve Jobs & Bill Gates. I am positive that Bill Gates has became a member of the new world order. the bank's are still locked up for the poor starting new ventures, from the 08-09 meltdown & bailout of the poor, & bill Gates was at 1 time a part of these people. Now this pc is geting old & also need a laptop. I am still using a hard line for my internet connection. All windows upgrade is so the Elite can control us. well I can not afford internet anymore as I need it. A bank could make a low interest loan to let me go on with my life with a spiritual protection. RAYMOND CROMLEY will leave the internet world.

Hello @cherokeeray? Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. If you have some specific issue, this can probably be fixed - don't loose hope. Internet is great. Please provide details about the issue as well as your HP computer model >> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/First-Time-Here-Learn-How-to-Post-and-More/Advice-for-asking-the-quot-V...   Windows Update/upgrade is not mandatory - especially Windows 7 it can easily be stopped. You are not forced to update Windows / upgrade to Windows 10.If you are not happy with Windows OS - there are some alternatives like GNU/Linux - Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, etc...You need a new computer only if this one has stopped working, there are some specific issues or your PC is really too old so that it can't run modern OS/applications.

I am planning to buy 4gb additional ram. My motherboard is Gigabyte M68MT-S2. Does following rams are compatible with this motherboard.
1.Transcend DDR3-1333 DDR3 4 GB PC RAM (JM1333KLN-4G)Transcend DDR3-1333 DDR3 4 GB PC RAM (JM1333KLN-4G): Flipkart.com
2.Kingston ValueRAM DDR3 4 GB PC RAM (KVR1333D3N9/4G)Kingston ValueRAM DDR3 4 GB PC RAM (KVR1333D3N9/4G): Flipkart.com

If compatible, which ram would better buy.
Kindly help! thank you

A:Help with buying ram.

Either should be compatible with the motherboard. Both are 1.5V DDR3, with similar timings.

One warning: there can be compatibility issues due to mixing RAM from different makers. It's safest to avoid that. (Costs more, of course.) As it's a desktop motherboard, you may be able to solve compatibility issues by manually setting the RAM timings.

The better buy would be the least expensive. I've not bought any RAM from Transcend, but as far as I know, they're as good as any. I've had good luck with Corsair and Gskill.

The Core2 Quad Q9550 is not supported. The board will only support up to Core2 Duo E6700. See here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=2304

The Q9550 costs about $300 at Newegg. Is that your budget for the upgrade?

I' m wondering if I should buy this PC:

Athlon XP 1800+
Elitegroup K755A Mainboard (266 FSB)
256 MB Infineon DDR RAM
60 GB IBM HD UDMA-100 7200U
16x40 DVD-Rom
32x12x40 CDRW Burn Proof
NVIDEA Geforce 4 MX 64 MB DDR TV (if I buy the PC I will replace it with a Geforce 3 Ti 500 or a Geforce 4 Ti 4200)

1. I ran 3Dmark 2001 in the shop and it only got 5300 points.
Is this only due to the crummy video card or is there something
wrong with the whole system?

2. Can I use the PC 133 memory of my old PC in the new one?

Obviously whether you buy this machine depends on how much you are going to pay for it... The spec looks OK to me although I don't know anything about Elitegroup motherboards.

If you are benchmarking the system, it is a good idea to make sure that all the latest drivers are installed in the machine (I doubt they will be if it's shop built) to make the most of it... although the GFX card might be the limiting factor there (More memory might help too).

If the Motherboard is DDR, you will not be able to use your old pc133 sdram (U can send it to me if you want....) Why would you want to do this anyway? - you have DDR in the new system.

Hope this helps, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong....

p.s. Just noticed that this is my 300th post.....Yippee!!

A:Help! Buying a PC and really need help

Since it sounds like you may not be comfortable building your own, this Dell may not be to bad of an idea. I'm not a huge fan of pre-built computers (like Dell, HP, etc...) myself and mostly build my own.
2 things I would change in the setup you posted. The first would be the Geforce 7300. This relies on something called 'Turbo Cache' which is a fancy way of saying that is uses some of your ram as its own, much like an itegrated motherboard vid card does. If the site lists other options, post them here and we can help you choose. The second thing I would change is the system ram. Get 2Gb if you can. Both of theses things I mentioned will allows games to be played much, much better.

A:buying RAM

If it's a known factory-brand computer, you need to advise us what brand name and model name and model number it is.

If it's a custom/home-made computer, you need to advise us the brand name and model number of its motherboard.

At this time, we have no way of knowing what type RAM you need and how much RAM is supported.

This is a 3.2 MP i know thats not alot but the price is good and it comes with alot of extra's

Is there anything else I can check other than RAM and HDD?

A:Buying second PC - Need help

Do you actually have the time to run these? All those tests and benchmarks can run for hours.

You can find all the utilities for HD/RAM/CPU testing on the UBCD: www.ultimatebootcd.com

In Windows, you can run something like 3DMark to test the graphics card (if it is a 3D one) and gaming performance. Business Winstone to see if the machine can handle hours of intensive office work.

When looking inside the machine, check all the capacitors - if you see any that are bulged or corroded, then you will have to get aquainted with a soldering iron very soon Noisy fans are not good either

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I've decided to upgrade my home desktop's CPU, as I only recently discovered that a Celeron D doesn't cut it, even if the listed speed is 3.33GHz. The trouble is, I don't know what my mobo is or what chips it supports. I also don't seem to be able to locate any non-dual core processors (I don't think my mobo can use multi-core CPUs). I'm just looking for a Pentium 4 that my system can use. If you can help me out, it'd be great.

Here's my current CPU (I couldn't find any information on what mobo I have):

Intel® Celeron® D Processor 356
(3.33GHz, 533MHz FSB, 512KB L2 cache)

This is a eMachines desktop, but I've been adding on to it for awhile now. Let me know if you need more specs.

Hello!

I'm considering buying a new pc - but I'm not gonna put it together myself.
I'm going to buy from Europe, to avoid futher taxation. But i'm not the sharpest person concerning hardware - and i need some help choosing. My budget is at a maximum of 600 euro (inc. operating system), ex. transport.
I'm looking at the following pc at the moment: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-018-OG

I'm going to upgrade the following components;
Graphic Card: AMD Radeon R9, 270X 4gb
HD: To the 1TB HD
And i'm considering upgrading the memory to 16gb from 8gb. (Although I'm not sure I need it)

This pc is going to be used for gaming - and i would like it to support high graphics, without sacrificing speed.
Can this pc support my needs for the time being and should I upgrade my memory?

Best regards, Simon

A:Buying a new pc

If your using the computer for gaming i would recommend upgrading the memory to 16gb. 8gb is fine for most programs but 16gb will make sure your games run properly without causing any slowdowns. I would also recommend upgrading the Graphics Card to a high quality one because pc games have a lot of graphics & not all graphics cards can support it. The rest of the hardware should be fine for your needs.

On Dell's official website it says the maximum it can support is 2GB but I believe it can support more, they may not have tested for more.

I currently have W7 64 bit installed on my Dell Inspiron 1501 with 2GB of RAM.

I'm from the UK so could anyone suggest links to where I can buy 4GB of RAM and 8GB of RAM from?

A:Need help buying RAM

I found these:
Cheap Laptops, Tablet PC, and Cheap LED TVs | Ebuyer.com

PC Components, Desktop PCs, Laptops, LCD TVs & Computer Hardware

Aria PC - Computer Hardware, Components, Monitors.. at lowest prices

Laptops, Computers, PC Components, MP3 players, Software, Digital Cameras and more - dabs.com

Overclockers UK - Computer components, hardware & gaming PC

Computer Hardware - Scan.co.uk

I'd also suggest Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More! although I think it's international.
Also, some RAM-Building websites like Corsair's have functions which allow you to choose your country and show you stores of where you can buy(link).
You could just visit any computer hardware store.

PS: I've made some research about what your Inspiron can run, people say it supports 4GB of RAM (2*2), however Dell says it does not, many others are running 8 GB, I think you should try and if it does not work there are money refunds.

A:Buying RAM - need help...

Just run the scanner on this and it will tell you what ram is needed and how much it will cost.
If you have the 32 Bit version of windows on your computer you already have the top amount of ram for that system.

I'm confused. I'm considering going to Vista for the 64-bit feature. Problems galore aside, how do I know if I'm buying 32-bt or 64-bit? One site I looked at seemed to indicate you buy 32-bit, then send away for the 64-bit. Microsoft's website was no help.

A:Am I buying 64-bit?

I think you're correct there - if you buy Vista from a retail store you will get the 32bit version, unless it's Vista Ultimate. You may have to pay for the shipping of the extra media too...

I am currently interested in replacing my current GPU which is a multimedia graphics card for a gaming graphics card.

I am in search for something that is just enough for my system hardware (exceptions Power Consumption, Size of GPU, Card Slot, all these are not important right now hahaha). Something that doesnt bottleneck any other component in my system. Please help me since I have no idea about GPU jargon but also post links of tutorials or guides about understanding the GPU because I am also interested to learn.

PS: I like nVidia =D Thanks in advance guys ^_^

Well. There's the GTX 690? Very expensive but would bottle neck your other components.
I have the GTX 550 ti but if your going for something like that go for the GTX 560 as the performance has a staggering difference.
So either the eVga GTX 550 ti from nVidia.
Or GTX 560 from nVidia.
Look at my photo for the 550 ti

No, you just need a router if you do not already have one. The cable modem will connect to the router and the router will share the internet to the two or more computers.

AMD Phenom ii 940 30Mhz

Ram 4GB DDR2(2*2)
Westen Digital 250GB Harddisk
Ati HD4850 1GB

A:Regarding buying new PC

Quite different machines... what are the differences in price... I like a lot of AMD processors, but no tthe Phenom II... so I would prefer the Core 2 Duo... If the prices are similar, #1 is a better deal... GigaByte motherboards are more trouble free than ASUS and others...

Are you building it, or buying a commercial machine or one already built...

The case and the power supply are at least as important as what you have posted... Some cases do not offer enough room for the CPU cooler... or for upgrades later...

Do not cheat yourself by getting a low priced case..

One of my friends wants to buy a PC so he asked me for help. I found 2(3) configurations which fit his budget. (and they are all similarly priced.)
i3 4130 with gtx 750 or AMD fx 6300 with r7 260x (the rest is the same 8gb ram 1tb hdd...)
And the third one is Intel i5 3350p with r7 250.
He would use it mostly for gaming and video play. Which one should he get? Thanx in advance

A:PC buying

Hello milostuvic,

I think the most important question to ask when picking out a new machine is its intended purpose. Is this machine going to be used for gaming?

The most balanced machine from a benchmark standpoint is the AMD setup. Its CPU and Video card fall in the middle. The r7 250 is a fairly weak video card, while that i3 is not the peppiest CPU.

If this machine is for light or general use, all of these would be a good choice.

Hi. My sister, who is even less computer savvy than I am, would like to purchase a new desktop or laptop. I tried to get her to switch to a Mac since I find them much easier to use, but she seems hesitant as they can be quite costly and she isn't familiar with them. All she really needs a computer for is internet, burning CDs, downloading music, word processing, and maybe some basic photo editing. She is looking to spend at the most $1,500 US. I am trying to find information on processors and locate a good computer that will last several years. Any suggestions? I have heard bad things about Dell computers, but not much else in regard to any other brand. I know nothing about processors anymore either.
If anyone has any suggestions that would be fantastic!

Thanks!

A:Buying a new PC

You may get as many different answers as there are readers of your post. Dell lovers/haters, Compaq lovers/haters. In my humble opionion, be sure it has a Pentium processor, preferably Pentium IV.

I also suggest either having one built or ordering one with what you need as "off the rack" computers may have too many things you don't/won't need. For example, I was five states away at a new account and the shipped computer crashed and I had to buy one that had so many options not needed and that conflicted with the proprietary software we use, it took two days to get operational. For instance, five different types of removable storage slots. Sheesh!

I'm sure you will get many suggestions.

I am thinking about getting the EVO for later use when the new computer I will be getting needs a clean iinstall Sadly my budget has decreased and I will not have enough for use later SSD a Buying money for buying neither a PC from a boutique builder or build it myself I may just go with the XPS which is at the edge of my budget Now so it is kind of over budget Since it comes with a HDD I may buy the EVO before I move to Korea because it is cheaper here even though Samsung is a Korean company for use when either the HDD dies or I have to reinstall Windows Or use it Buying a SSD for later use as a external drive if none of the above happens before a new SSD comes out and makes the EVO obsolete Will the chips in the SSD start rotting after time passes I have heard that this happens to flash drives and since SSD have similar chips I am worried that the SSD will rot without use Is it even worth it to buy the SSD this early

I want to buy a new computer, something powerful, however I don't want to spend more than 1,000.

I would prefer.
i7 with atleast 3.5ghz
8GB ram
Nvidia graphics card 700 series

Any help is appreciated.

A:Need help buying a new PC

Let estimate for a minute:

i7 - 300
8GB RAM - 75
nVidia 760 - 250
That is over $600 for just those 3 components. And that is assuming you don't need more than a GTX 760. Do you already have other components, that can be eliminated from the build? The case, PSU, and motherboard will take another $200. Then we have the question whether there will be an SSD, HDD, or a combination of both in the build.

A:im buying a dvd rom...

DVD roms are very inexpencive.. This Sony http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172460 is only $26. I might suggest going ahead and getting a DVD-RW drive if you are going to upgrade. You can get a Sony for under $50 through ZipZoomFly or NewEgg. Something like http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172472 for $39.99. It may come in handy someday if you ever want to back up some pictures/music/files.

As for installation, you just need to plug it in just like your old CD-Rom was. Its pretty easy to see once you crack open your case. The pins only fit one way on the device, so its hard to mess that up.. and Windows should recognize the new device and load the drivers for you.

Good luck!
