Comodo Free Firewallversion 2.4 Vs. Zonealarm Free 6.5.737

Q: Comodo Free Firewallversion 2.4 Vs. Zonealarm Free 6.5.737

I currently use ZA Free but due to the size of it since the Pro stuff is just turned off and it possibly acting weird I was going to use ZA Free on my replacement laptop coming up instead Then Comodo Free FirewallVersion was recommended to me But Firewallversion Free Zonealarm 6.5.737 Free Vs. Comodo 2.4 then Comodo Free Firewallversion 2.4 Vs. Zonealarm Free 6.5.737 I saw that it supposedly has a vulnerability that won't be fixed until the next version if that even I also see that it says quot after downloading and installing the firewall just register with us and you will be sent a free license After activation this license will never expire quot -- so what information do you have to provide to register This firewall stuff kind of makes my head spin since I'm no expert but I'm trying to decide what I should go with between these two on my replacement laptop Opinions with explanations understandable by a non-expert are appreciated I am also considering buying the AVG Internet Security which seems to include a Firewall How does that one measure up I'll have Windows XP Pro I use Firefox for all internet browsing except for Windows Updates and the occasional Office Updates and I have dial-up Some A V antispyware etc programs I plan on using are SpyBot Ad-Aware SE Free AVG A V Free AVG Antispyware Free and maybe Comodo BOClean Anti-Malware Version and SpywareBlaster Thanks for the help opinions

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The only thing you have to provide is your email address. If you don't want any offers from Comodo, make sure the the box underneath is ticked. I think it says something along the lines of tick this box if you do not want to receive any other offers from Comodo. The programs you have mentioned will create no problems as i can see, although you should ensure that the WIndows default fire is turned off when using another firewall. To turn off Windows Firewall, click start>run and type in firewall.cpl then click OK. Click on the circle next to Off(not recommended) then OK.Don't worry, using any firewall other the Windows one is preferable, as Windows only protects you from incoming threats, not outgoing threats!About the vulnerability, there will always be one, no matter what firewall you use, as hijackers and other computer bad guys come up with new tactics....but Comodo has worked fine for me and has even alerted me to the fact i have IRCbot (a backdoor trojan/worm)!!!But about which firewall is better, i don't know. I can't say so because i haven't used the AVG firewall. Although i would expect Comodo to be better, based on the fact that AVG is mainly an anti-virus program, and would therefore concentrate on the virus side of things. That is exactly why i do not use the Trend Micro firewall i have.I love Mozilla add-ons, they make me feel safe.......try the add-on found here that heps protect you against keyloggers which basically see what you type and can steal your username(s) and passwords.Hope my opinion helps! Have a great day

I have always AV + Avast Free free! 7 Conflicts Firewall Comodo used Avast and Comodo as my AV Firewall combination I find it to be very useful and although Comodo provides many annoying popups they are useful and informational I would consider myself a competent computer user though no expert Recently I just wanted to see how good my combination was and if there was a better one I found topics that said of how Avast's web shield completely bypasssed Comodo's rules I tested this Block chrome exe Avast 7 free! AV + Comodo Free Firewall Conflicts in Comodo completely Check that both Comodo and Avast are updated and Avast web shield ON Open Chrome and see what happens Results At first I thought it was fine google com was blocked Then I tried clicking on bookmarks yahoo com would open youtube com would open etc I was shocked to find that Comodo was letting these websites open even though chrome exe was blocked After doing some more research and realizing that this was a big problem and that many solutions did not work with avast being blamed or comodo being outdated or even that Win bit was limiting comodo I tested it Avast 7 free! AV + Comodo Free Firewall Conflicts again with web shield OFF I repeated the process of blocking chrome and opened google com and other websites This time all Avast 7 free! That is a good question.
When I think about it Hulu does have movies.
I use Netflix.
I can use http://www.epixhd.com/ as I have Dishnetwork and can use that to be able to watch. Yup, just tested works good.
Many of the Movies channels can be watched that way.

I got a message on screen to update cliked on update now and all that happened was that my browser (firefox) opened and just below all the bars at the top another bar opened top left with a za exe file but nothing further happened, not for want of clicking.I then tried to download the lateest version of free zonealarm from the majorgeeks website, clicked on downloadnow but apart from the screen going black for a fraction of a second nothing happened and I was back on the same screen with the downloadnow button. What am I doing wrong ? How do I overcome this and get the most upto date version ?

Hi, know that Windows XP firewall is virtually non-existant for data going out, as opposed to being good for blocking threats coming in. I was debating putting the free Zonealarm on to counter out-going threats, but looking through the list of problems posted here, I am wondering if I might be asking for trouble.

I don't want to open a can of worms. Does anybody know of another freebee I can download that is, very possibly, safer and can cause less hassles?
Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Free Zonealarm

I haven't read the probs people have with Free Zonealarm . I would like to say I have never had any trouble with it when setting it up on any machine. When it is first installed and you open a programme that wants to access the Internet it simply opens a box and tells you what programme is requesting access. You then select allow or not . Why don't you just try it?( There is probably 2 or 3 million other users out there).
p.s. I have installed it on at least 250 machines.

hi!

from thewindowsclub:

-----------------------------------------------------------
leofelix:

Check Point's ZoneAlarm division plans to announce that it will give away free licenses to its ZoneAlarm Pro firewall software on "Patch Tuesday," or Tuesday, Oct. 13.

The free giveaway will take place on line for 24 hours, at ZoneAlarm's Web site here.

ZoneAlarm Pro is a subset of ZoneAlarm's security services, a step up from its free firewall but less protection than its ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2010 suite offers.

ZoneAlarm Pro includes the two-way firewall, download monitoring, anti-phishing protection, plus a couple of advanced features: OSFirewall, which looks for changes in the OS that might have been missed by an antivirus program, and credit monitoring with the three major credit bureaus. The latter feature typically comes with a year's subscription.

I have been using without having any problems. But for the last two days, I'm not able to open web pages if it is active. I can successfully ping my ISPs gateway and perform telnet logins,
but not accesss web pages. NO settings of ZoneAlarm were changed (I checked
this up) and the default gateway and DNS address of my ISP are same. I have a

I have just bought an HP laptop with Vista. Nortons security trial was pre-installed which I deleted from Ad/Remove. I then tried to install ZoneAlarm Free - i downloaded it and put it on disc on my main computer, and then inserted the disc into the laptop, but as soon as i double clicked the icon, it said 'setup was unable to find teh msi package or patch. redirect zonealarm ...'

How do I install this?

I installed Avast with no problem, and I am now running the Vista Firewall - is this safe to use in the meantime?

Also, if all else fails, is there another free firewall that you recommend if i cannot use Zonealarm?

A:need help installing ZoneAlarm free

A couple suggestions:1 - the norton trial security needs to be removed by using the Norton removal tool. Using ADD/REMOVE doesn't remove norton completely, leaving files and registry entries behind that conflict with other installations of security softwarehttp://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgen...0050331081620392 - setup was unable to find teh msi package or patch. redirect zonealarm .. this is an indicator of a bad download. Zone alarm, I believe, still recommends their products be download using Internet explorer browser3 - any reason you're not doing a direct download onto the laptop?4 - Vista 32 bit or 64 bit?

Thanks K-7.

I run a dual-boot (XPx86/7x64) with a slew of legacy and newer games on XP. I kept XP because I still revisit the legacies and I did not want to go through the hassle of reinstalling all of the others on Win7.

I run the free Comodo Suite on Win7 but on the XP, I run ZA v.7 because I suffered the infamous ZA/ISP conflict with v. 8. After that I stopped upgrading and no longer follow ZA since my XP surfing is limited to known/safe sites, primarily game patches.

So I will give v. 9.2 a try.

Hi All,

I hope someone can help me to resolve this.

I have just installed Comodo Free Internet Security on my own pc (this is my partner's) and now less than five minutes after I log it on my mouse pad and key board freeze and I can't do anything.

I tried to get as far as control panel to uninstall comodo but it freezes before that point.

I was very careful when searching for the download as have had problems previously with downloads from cnet which seems now to include all sorts of stuff. I went to what I believe was the official site to download it.

My pc is windows 8. I can't see anything on my desktop relating to comodo that I can quickly click and disable but I've not had this pc very long and still getting used to windows 8 so may be missing something.

Can anyone help me?

Read this guide carefully and yes go through the pages so you will know how to initiate safe mode in 8 or 8.1.
Once you get access wait for the desktop to load, hit the star button, go click on search.
You type control panel, click that once and wait for it to open.
Navigate to add and remove programs find the program that is comodo and attempt to remove it by its default uninstaller.

May I ask if you have any other antivirus/firewall suite that would conflict with comodo ?

Now if i go to the firewall and turn it off, then i can play online. Alright, you may be thinking "just add an exception". I did. Hi BC,
Haven't been here for awhile because all going very well. I am a longtime user of Firefox, Zonealarm free firewall, Avast & Malwarebytes.

A few days ago I upgraded Firefox to 4.0.1, mainly because it was said to have better security.

In looking over my list of extensions, there is mention of the Zonealarm security toolbar (3.3.5.1--latest) with no noted problem. However, further down the list is a warning that Zonealarm Security Engine (1.5.265.2--latest) is incompatible with this version of Firefox and is disabled.

Does this mean that when I am using Firefox, my Zonealarm firewall is completely shut off? If not, what part of the firewall is still functioning?

My main plan if there are no other suggestions is to go back to the prior version of Firefox.

Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Hi,

I've read about the problems with KB951748 and ZoneAlarm. I use ZA Free 6.5.737 (with Windows XP SP2, AVG Free 7.5, Firefox 2.0.0.15, and IE 6.5). Does KB951748 cause problems with my version of ZA? I wanted to make sure what the situation was with this exact version before doing any Windows Updates. I do not with to update my ZA to a newer version, so I need to figure out if I'll be installing this Windows Update or not. (I did a search and did not find this information listed anywhere...)

Also, any issues caused by KB951376 (the other MS Critical Update offered)?

Any help is appreciated -- thanks!

A:Does Kb951748 Effect Zonealarm Free 6.5.737?

According to the ZA board, 6.5.737 *is* also screwed up by the update. Gah...

So how bad is it to not install the MS update? I normally only use dial-up, so I'm not sure how much it would effect me. What exactly can happen if you don't do the update?

ZoneAlarm ForceField is a new security utility that promises bulletproof protection against browser-related threats. It normally sells for $29.95, but Check Point Software is offering it absolutely free, today only, as part of a Patch Tuesday promotion.

The software relies on a technique called "virtual browsing" to protect your PC against unauthorized downloads, malware installations, phishers, keyloggers, and the like. It also promises total privacy by erasing the (virtual) browser's cache, cookies, history, and passwords. According to Check Point, the program won't interfere with any existing security software you might already have.

You could try Comodo firewall, Sunbelt, or you could try to reinstall ZoneAlarm

They are all free.

I updated my free ZoneAlarm this morning after being prompted that it was available. When I tried to install it, it gave the following message:

Error

Could not load the DLL library
C:\DOCUME~1\Peg]LOCALS~1\Temp\vsutil.dll
(VSSetProtection). The specified procedure
could not be found.
I did a search and found it in C:\Windows\system32 folder.

I tried again to install and got a slightly different error msg.

Could not load the DLL library
C:\DOCUME~1\Peg]LOCALS~1\Temp\vsutil.dll
(WSEDbgPrint). The specified procedure

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do now?

Thanks

Hi

I Am thinking of replacing the firewall of windows for zonealarm free firewall. Why? For improving, I suppose.
The truth is that the my computer is OK, when it had it with Online Armor free, the only thing that it was noticing is that it was late a few seconds more in starting, nothing more.
ZoneAlarm's idea is because it is an excellent firewall that does not have HIPS, according to Pcmag it is the best firewall of the market... I would like so much to know your opinions and that you were helping me to choose the best option.

Thank you friends.

I was wondering if anyone could help about this. I've had no luck on the ZoneAlarm forums. ZoneAlarm firewall will not update when I click on 'update' - I just get 'error'. This can be temporarily solved by clean installing, and I'll be able to update for a few days, but then I'll start getting the error message again.

As usual any help really appreciated.

Hello, all.

I have a question regarding ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and a clean Windows 7 Pro install I did back in January of this year on an Asus N53 series laptop. I have been using ZoneAlarm Free firewall for many years with my Xp systems and decided to continue using it with my Windows 7 install. I am now reading that Zone Alarm has become (has been) very resource heavy and that the Windows 7 firewall is much improved over previous versions of Windows firewalls. So my question is, Is Zone Alarm still as resource heavy (version as of 1/2013 to present) as it has been in the past or has it improved?

Zone Alarm used to be a great firewall but I've heard it's nearly impossible to completely uninstall. I was thinking of uninstalling Zone Alarm and using the Windows 7 firewall or Comodo instead. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 Pro and Zonealarm Free Firewall

Hello slipstream55 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Just my personal opinion FWIW. I've been using the built-in Windows 7 firewall without any problems. It's definitely more robust and user configurable than previous versions but like beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Others may totally dislike the 7 firewall.

If you want to remove ZoneAlarm the do make an uninstall tool.

Or you could get the 30-day trial version of Revo Uninstaller which should also work.

I've finally deep sixed all of Norton Systemworks 2004

I installed Zonealarm Free v6.1.xxx and it's up and running. I also installed AVG Free and it's also doing its thing.

The one part of NSW I do like and which seems to work ok is Norton Password Manager. I did reinstall that from my CD and it's working fine in the new configuration.

But now, occasionally, when I'm starting up, ZA gives me some warnings that some programs with Symantec in the title or associated with that company in some way are trying to access the internet.

I don't know if I should "allow" or "deny" that.

Any suggestions?

I do NOT want to give up NPM, although I am aware of Roboform, which would probably be a suitable substitute if I was willing to buy a new program.

Thx

In cleaning up a mess over on the "HJT log" forum the advisor who helped me out noted that I'm only using the built-in Windows firewall, and that I really need a firewall that can monitor outgoing as well as incoming traffic. Based on my experience, I'm inclined to (belatedly) agree with him. He suggested either ZoneAlarm or PC Tool Firewall Plus.

I'm leaning towards ZoneAlarm, based on what I've heard in the past, but I would like to know if anyone has any experience in running the ZoneAlarm Free firewall with Avast! Antivirus 4.8 (free version). Will they work well together without conflicts? A quick check on Google was inconclusive.

Does anyone have any real-world experience?

"ZA 3.1 Free available to existing Users"

Quote from Zone Labs:
With over 17 million users of ZoneAlarm products, our primary concern with this launch is to provide a satisfactory upgrade experience for folks. To ensure that, we'll be making the upgrade available to a fixed percentage of our existing users every day, through the "Check for Updates" feature. This process will continue for several days before we officially announce ZoneAlarm on our site and make it available to the general public.

New Comodo Bug. We found a second new bug in Comodo which may cause conflict with MBAE and result in browsers not being able to open correctly. It seems when MBAE injects after Comodo there is no problem, but if Comodo injects after MBAE then Comodo doesn't handle the chained hooks correctly. A fresh re-install of MBAE might temporarily solve the problem (as it sometimes makes MBAE handle the API hooks after Comodo) but the definite bug fix must come from Comodo.

You would use CFW along with SpS Free? In my opinion, this might not be a good idea.

As far as I know, HIPS softwares will use hooks to monitor the activities of applications.

I know little about hooks, but I hear that hooks of different security products could conflict with each other with a non-zero probability.

I am afraid that such kind of conflicts would not only influence the stability, but also influence the protection. (I have no evidence, just some thoughs...)

Hi guys

I have the following product installed on my one computer : Comodo CIS 2009 free. (http://www.comodo.com) which is not a rogue antivirus. I want to know how to set it so that a pop up doesn't occour asking me for an action everytime I install programs, is it normal that it does that or is it a security measure that no malware gets installed by mistake? How do I control what applications are allowed and what are blocked?

Regards

Roger

A:Comodo Internet Security Free

It is there so that nothing can be installed without you knowing about it. When you get the pop-up, if you know what it is, select 'Installer or Updater' and then say yes to installation mode. You will usually get one other popup to allow and then it will install quietly.

This is necessary to prevent you suffering a drive by download from an infected website, which are very common now.

With CIS nothing unknown can install itself on your system unless you allow it.

Probably shows my not keeping up with things more than anything else, but, frankly, never
heard of them.

How long have they been around ? Who are they ?

How does their anti-virus free programs compare to AVG, Avira, etc. ?

Good for malware ? How does it compare to MalwareBytes ?

Much thanks, as always,

A:Comodo Free Anti Virus ?

I use COMODO CIS & Firewall but it will not get recommended here on Seven Forums as it's tricky to configure and isn't user friendly.

Properly configured it does indeed block 100% of zero day (unknown) threats but the user needs to know how to identify false positive detections and what to allow when prompted.

It's possible to disable certain features in order to avoid lots of pop ups that require a user to make a decision.

If you want a guide you can find one here:

Are there any know issues or incompatibilities with this software now?

I know it didn't play nice with VISTA, so I dumped it in favorer of Online Anchor.. which worked great and I loved.. but OA is not Win7 compatible, so I'm forced to use Windows firewall, which isn't a major concern as I also use a Modem/Router with firewall, so it like wearing my pants with both belt and suspenders.. but it lets me sleep well at night.

This activity started about 5 days ago....and hasn't let up since. The two main ports being scanned are 48416 and 23531.I run Zonealarm (free) v 9.2.057.000 and have just about everything blocked from the internet. My computer scans clean, HiJack This shows nothing unusual etc. Windows XP Pro SP3 fully updated, no IM clients or any clients installed, no toolbars etc. Zonealarm is blocking everything...but it just seems strange. These two ports are getting scanned about 1-3 per minute at worst.Should I be worried about this??

A:Unusually heavy Zonealarm (free) log entries

My intial feeling is no. It seems Zonealarm is doing its job. It could be exactly what you are seeing. Someone is scanning those ports on your IP range looking for someone who doesn't have their computer protected. I would keep an eye on it and if it doesn't end in a few weeks I would consider possibly contacting your ISP about it. Odds are they have noticed it too and are trying to block out/find the attacks.

Looks like others are having some problems also, but I downloaded and installed 3 updates this morning: KB951748, KB951978, and KB890830 and then Zone Alarm began blocking all incoming and outgoing including my dsl connection to at&t. I tried to do things in ZA, but nothing worked until I did a system restore back to yesterday.

Just in case it wasn't the updates but a fluke, I installed them again and same thing happened; ZA wouldn't even let SpySweeper or AVG free check for updates. So I did another system restore back to yesterday.

How can I figure out which one of these updates is messing up ZA? Is there a way to download and install the updates one at a time?

How do you let ZA know about this? I'd really like to do the updates.

Thanks for your help,

I was using an older version of ZoneAlarm (free firewall) and got greedy when a new version came. The default options of Upgrade / Fresh install were giving me TrueVector errors. So I disabled the service and un-installed the older version from Control Panel.

I tried many times (and many things) but I am unable to install ZoneAlarm. I re-downloaded the installation file as well. But the installation starts and then stops at 25%. It just stops responding.

I think it must have a Help menu - I can't see how it could not have one--but even a reinstall did not produce a help menu. Could it be that it was left out as it's the free version so that you'd be tempted to go to an upgrade?

Now I know many Firewall an Comodo free contain Does anti-virus? of you will say there is no need for a firewall that will replace Ms's own one in Windows and yes I agree with you But I wanted someting a bit more visually appealing and engaging Plus I like experimenting with new software Anyhoo it's not a problem but after a week I noticed that Security Centre was flashing messages at me that anti-virus protection was switched off I currently use Avast which of course disables Defender It listed Avast Defender and Comodo as all switched off I was able to activate Defender and I am now receiving updates for it Avast runs as a Does free Comodo Firewall contain an anti-virus? on demand scanner much in the same way as Malewarebytes I can see that I have to update definitions manually So looking more closely Does free Comodo Firewall contain an anti-virus? at Comodo all I have is a shortcut to Firewall MS one is switched off on my desktop but looking at the directories I can see that the folder is called Security which implies an anti-virus It does have a scanner but if that is an anti-virus then it's rubbish I'm happy with Defender as my principal defence even though Avast would be my first choice but annoyed that Comodo would sneak in something that is totally unwanted and conflicts with my chosen setup This is beginning to sound more like a rant but I hate being duped And ps my cpu is not up to virtulisation but it's interesting to see that I have a virtual desktop with Comodo Don't know what to use it for as my browsing is limited but I'm always open to suggestions

A:Does free Comodo Firewall contain an anti-virus?

I dislike the free one ( and I vaguely recall it's a trial? )

Comodo Antivirus 2014 | Download Free Antivirus for Virus Protection

I have heard good things though about the PRO version.

As for the virtual part. A lot of people will use virtual desktops as their safe haven for banking online as it doesn't save no history or cookies to the computer/program.

Is it safe to run comodo internet secuirity and avira antivir free together?

and i dont knw wat 2 decide from. Wich one do u guys recomend?

A:comodo internet secuirity and avira free?

It's not safe to run both of them at the same time if they both installed (assuming Comodo Internet Security also includes an antivirus). This is because having two antiviruses can cause problems with your computer in its performance and compromise the security of your computer.

As for which one is better, it's really a matter of opinion, let alone that I haven't used either of the products.

That's because AV-Test is primarily a signature detection test using default settings.

CIS, with properly adjusted settings, will provide high-level protection.

There are a number of CIS configuration videos here at MT by @cruelsister .

Hi Littlebits. Your post prompted me to read user reviews for ZoneAlarm. The toolbar fix may rectify the most common complaint expressed by users. Since we use Bitdefender Free, Malwarebytes, Zemana Anti-logger, & Windows Firewall for our Windows 8.1 system, I wanted to ask: 1) What are your thoughts on ZoneAlarm? ..and 2) Do you see weaknesses in this, our computer's (freeware) armor?

I have installed Gator - IM Secure - Zone Alarm and Secure Delivery on my 98 2nd, and now I am having 2nd thoughts as to the merits of the downloads. I also have spybot - all the free systems. I have subscribed to McAfee virus protection and McAfee anti-spyware. With spybot and McAfee anti-spyware I get the notification of the adware stuff through Gator, IM Secure.

What's the conventional wisdom of using these free sites/downloads - I understand the ads that come with them but with PopUpStopper and Google I don't seem to be bothered with pop-ups, so....do the advantages outweight the disadvantages?

New version of ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus+ was tested by pcmag.com.

Results: Editor rating: excellent
Pros:
Tough, effective two-way firewall. Antivirus protection licensed from Kaspersky. Free. Several useful bonus features.

Cons
Hardly any results from independent testing labs. Doesn't include every feature of Kaspersky antivirus. No phishing protection. Behavioral detection flagged both good and bad programs.

Bottom Line
ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus+ combines a top-notch firewall with antivirus protection licensed from award-winning Kaspersky. This free program can be a good choice if you don't want a full-scale security suite.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I need protection. It only has 1GB of RAM, so would I get Avast! free 5.1 or Comodo internet security 5.0? I was thinking of maybe MSE 2.0, but heard it is not RAM friendly.

A:Avast! Free 5.1 final vs Comodo Internet security 5.0

I wouldnt use Comodo AV since its hasnt been tested and it has an okay detection. The backbone of the whole suite of comodo is the D+ which is a HIPS.

Why not use Avast Free + Comodo FW w/ D+? You get a very good AV and an excellent firewall+hips program.

Does the Free Security Combo Comodo IS +SpyShelter can be considered the Best free Security Combo that exists Today?

A:Can Combo Comodo IS +SpyShelter be considered the best free combination

I wouldnt go as far as stating best combo.

Depending on the user, some will say CIS on its own is the GO TO
Others will toss in anti execs
others will prefer WD + WF + Smartscreen

Spyshelter does include a HIPS module however (free version is limited). To get the most out of SpyShelter, go for Premium or Firewall.

Why don't you get sandboxie and something like private firewall or win patrol and get a standlone antivirus.

What do you think of Windows own firewall? Does it also stop outbound connections?

What is it like compared to Zone Alarm? Is ZA in itself any good?

Also, is there a tool similar to ZA's internet lock where you can temporarily enable / disable internet access?

Personally speaking I have never bothered with software firewalls. I've always used the Windows one and the hardware firewall included in your router.

A:My current security combo & Comodo Versus ZA free Firewall

I am currently in a similar position to you, although I got there in a different way!

I was using Win 98 quite happily and had NOD32 and ZA Pro (one of the 6.0 series because it was the last one that worked with '98 and, like you, I had read a lot of stuff about the problems some people were having with the 7.0 series). My 98 computer suffered a terminal crash (due to an error of mine!) and so I now have XP Home. I have made several attempts to get a new d/l of ZAP but without success, probably because my anti-spyware sub expired during the period I was 'offline'.

Like you I was appalled at the prospect of a 38MB d/l for the free version on dialup so I got Comodo. It's too early to make a judgement about whether Comodo is better, worse or just different to ZA, because I'm still very much in the learning process with it. Perhaps a long term Comodo user will respond and give us some feedback?
