Cookie Blocking

Q: Cookie Blocking

Hi. I use Adblock to stop unwanted ads from slowing me down, but this one: rd.apmebf.com keeps on popping up even though I've placed a filter on it. Is there any reason why this should happen?

Preferred Solution: Cookie Blocking

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all

I've been doing some active reading on the topic of whether torrent data can be filtered and blocked via some networking device (router, perhaps) or a Cisco ASA firewall, even. Is this even possible?

A:Blocking Torrents Completely:Possible or no?

To my understanding, NO. Torrents use arbitrary ports above 1024 and can not be distinguished from email / browsers.

If you learn otherwise, please post back your findings.

I have a thing called SoftPerfect WIFI Guard It has detected someone using my WIFI signal. is there a way I can block them?
Here's the thing I am not selfish. If after I block them from using my WIFI, I don't see any significant Change in speed or performance. I will just go ahead and let them use the WIFI.

I'm wondering how I can shut down the internet access at a certain time of the day than start it back up again. I'm using a netgear router, don't remember the model # off hand. There is two computers a nd two xboxes wired to the router. Can anyone shed some light on this problem.....telling them to get off obviously didn't work....LOL. Thanks for any help.

I'm trying to block Youtube using the parental controls on my DI-624 router.

But when I do this, it also blocks Google maps... Any ideas why?

I've tried blocking "youtube.com" and "www.youtube.com" and using the Domain Blocker but the same problems come up.

Hey,

Our family rents apartments here where I live. And there's a router in my room which guests use too. Since we don't have awesome internet connection, it really annoys me when guests download something via Wi-Fi. So my question is, Is it possible to block ports only for Wi-Fi users, but leave all ports open for cable users?

I googled but did not find anything related.. hope to get an answer here.

Big thanks !

Would it be possible for network admin to selectively block a device from accessing the company wireless network?
The reason for my question is that I think I may be the victim of such an act.
After a difference of opinion with the guy who looks after/controls the company network, I am no longer able to connect to the network using my htc touch phone. I know he changed the passkeys but I have managed to find the new ones from a laptop using ubuntu, but although I try to log on using the new passkeys (which work in the case of the laptop) I am unable to connect.
I may point out that network access is purely for recreation purposes and in no way connected to my job, so I have no legitimate reason to complain to the management.
:suspiciou

A:Selective device blocking... is it possible?

It is indeed very possible to block a device from entering your network. You'll need the mac address if I am not mistaken. Also remember that if you have a device that has an assigned IP address and you try to log on the network with a device using the same IP, it will be rejected. That shouldn't be a problem today considering modems automatically assign IP's. They could have a closed network as well. I'm not 100% sure on this, and please someone correct me if I am wrong, but there is a way to assign IP addresses that allowed on the network, and lock out all others. If this has happened you won't be getting in, unless of course, you are a cracker, which you obvioulsy arn't, and neither am I.

Hi all,

Basically using a Speedtouch 580 wireless DSL Router as a means of sharing internet access throughout the house. The problem is that I need to connect to my works VPN via a Sonicwall connection and I'm getting the following error message:

The peer is not responding to phase 1 ISAKMP requests.

Now I'm pretty sure its down to the NAT firewall on my router so I was wondering if anyone knew of the settings I need to configure to get this to work. Or if anyone has any better solutions?

Cheers for any help,

Regards,

Marty

A:NAT Firewall on router blocking sonicwall VPN?

The only ways to get around a NAT that I know of, are to port forward for the application with which you are trying to connect or to use DMZ, if the router supports it, which I wouldn't recommend. Apart from that I'm not too clued up on your situation. Some routers support VPN passthrough, if so then you can configure that from the router's web based interface, and shouldn't need to port forward or do anything else.

hi, sorry if this is the wrong thread... for a long time now.. i havent been able to have ppl connect to my ftp site or send files thru dcc on mirc... and i THINK this all started after i got my linksys router....
is there a firewall in my router ??

thanks for any help

A:is my linksys router blocking ftp and dcc connects ?

Yes, your router has a firewall and it will block that traffic.

You will need to enable port forwarding (its under gaming and applications usually).

Forward port 21 to your FTP server. I'm not sure what the port for DCC is, but you will need to forward it also.

For port forwarding, you will need static IP addresses for you computers.

Hi, I'm running a DLink DI-604 with two computers. I have ZoneAlarm on both. I set up trusted zone as 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.101. And Internet zone as 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0. I heard that by performing NAT, the router is supposed to block external attacks right? But, when I run shield's up on GRC, I seem to fail. Anyone here to help me how to setup the router/Zonealarm properly?

I use Zone Alarm firewall on my two computers which are networked through a router, but when i have Zone Alarm turned on it won't let the other computer access the computers files. I even mapped a netwrok drive and ZL won't allow it to access them. I'm feelin pretty vulnerable without my firewall on, but i would like to be able to share files easily...
I'm also having trouble sharing a printer. I've been trying to get my XP home computer to share a printer with my 98. Their networked fine and i've installed the newest drivers on both and even installed the printer on my XP, but when I print it says "Started" and immediately says "Completed" without printing anything??? Any help would be appreciated....

A:ZL blocking file sharing...

In ZoneAlarm you will find a setting to allow specific IP-numbers to connect to your PC. Put the IP-number of the other PC or PCs in them. Do this on both PCs.
I don't have ZA so can't tell you exactly WHERE, but I think it is in the Trusted Zone or something like that.
Make sure both PCs are in the same Workgroup.
The above change will probably sort your printer out as well.

I need to prevent 1 user account, from completely accessing the web and CD-ROMs on a machine that is running Windows XP (SP1), while allowing 2 other users to still access to the Web and CD-ROMs.

Any clues anyone??

Thanks!

A:Blocking the Internet & CD-ROM

Your Hdd must be NTFS file system and you cannot use Simple File Sharing on XP Pro, on Home it a little more complicated because some of these settings have to be done in Safe mode.
For the folders you want to limit access to ,use the 'make this Folder Private tab' on User Accounts page ,right click the user icon, use this to protect you whole profile.Remember if you set restrictions 'the allow inherit permision from Parent to Prop..."tab forces these settings for everything inside that Folder or Drive. You can use this to your advantage.
Also use the Advanced permission screen on the Security tab of Properties for any item in your machine. Here you can set advanced permissions for each user at the same time.
It would be a good idea to do some reading inWindows Help or Web to make sure you have an understanding of the things you are setting.

A:Power Supply blocking CPU fan,

To rule out the PSU as being the problem run the PC with the PSU half pulled out. I did that in the past for testing with my Lian-Li PC-50 case which also features a sideways mounting for the PSU.
I've never found it to be much of a problem with temperatures. If the PSU fan is running at higher speed (unlikely) then I could see if causing a problem. Check that the heatsink is mounted well and making correct contact with the core.

I'm a little confused by this. Isn't the whole point of using a sandboxed browser is that nothing leaves it. SAS picked this up:

accounts.key.com [ C:\AVAST! SANDBOX\S-1-5-21-3583729876-1247344376-3946384776-1000\SFZONE\C\USERS\NIGHTMARE\APPDATA\ROAMING\MACROMEDIA\FLASH PLAYER\#SHAREDOBJECTS\JG77RLU5 ]
I assumed that with a sandbox, stuff like this (especially a key bank flash cookie) would simply not exist.
Also, there is no C:\Avast!. I installed Avast to a custom folder and Avast doesn't use the word "Sandbox" to describe it's program in any files, always "SafeZone".

Don't get me wrong, pc's fine. I'm just wondering if this is typical or if Avast just makes a crappy sandbox.

Hi all,
I just upgraded to Windows 7 ultima and it has IE8 with it, when i had vista running (IE7) i could save the cookies for sites i visited all the time in the allow part of ccleaner, so every time i clicked hotmail, lets say, i would log straight in.

Now, i have done the same for IE8 except even though ccleaner has saved the cookies i have allowed, IE8 never remembers my log in details so i have to log in to about 8 different sites everytime i shut down/switch on.
Where do i set this option up in IE8 please ?

thanks so much for reading and for anyhelp.

Under internet options then under privacy then advance. Pretty much the same as prior IE. There are some new security features though. You need to read though what you want to use in IE8. Or just use Firefox or even test that out with what your doing. Make sure you got the latest Ccleaner. You may also want to try instead of Ccleaner is Fcleaner.

A:Blocking downloading in Vista?

Well just viewing a webpage is actualy downloading.
So to distinguish between what you want to download and what you don't want can be difficult (automatically)

You should start by using a personal firewall, that can block harmful sites and things. And you can set it up to block specific sites (and therefore downloads)

Otherwise I'm open for suggestion from others as well.

A:Outlook 2003 keyword blocking

email flitering

email filters can be "interesting" depending upon the product. I don't use Outlook
for email, but I can tell you some concepts that can usually be applied.

filtering on Subject: will catch a great deal. In one filter I specify multiple keywords;

Message contains ANY of the following subject contains keyword1
subject contains keyword2
subject contains keyword3
Action move to folder SPAM (create one first).
After you're sure you don't catch the wrong messages, you can change the action to DELETE.

I use filtering on From: to find spam from domains I never communicate with,
eg: I'm in the U.S.A and don't expect email from Russia (xxx.ru). As there are too
many domains world wide, I specify a list of acceptable U.S. domains;

Message contains ALL of these:From doesn't contain .com
From doesn't contain .net
From doesn't contain .org
From doesn't contain .mil
From doesn't contain .edu
From doesn't contain .pro
Action: Move to SPAM

Hi,

My malwarebytes premium continously shows pop-up windows saying that it has blocked a certain IP address, some are incomming, others are outgoing and the IP addresses vary, there will be a hand full of the same address and then the IP would change.
I have run a full system scan with Malwarebytes which discovered nothing, I also ran the Chameleon mode in MBAM with no results, I also ran Microsoft Security Essential which found one suspected "hacktool" (which I believe to be a false positive) and quarantined it).
Following the advice from other posts I ran a DDs scan and will post the results below if requested.

I had formated this PC in the middle of January.

Any help will be very welcome.

I am setting up the Parental controls on my computer at home. I have a HP Windows 7 (And I am dumb when it comes to doing this kind of stuff.) So, I set up parental controls through the control panel and installed a web filter. However, my son and Bf are
both better at computers than I and will figure out they still have access to uninstall the programs I have in place to keep them both from "Particular" websites and things which they have no need of on the home computer.
So my question is, how do I block their access (Standard Users) to the control panel?
I have the administrator set up but cant get the control panel to not be available to them. Help please? And please explain in detail, I am just not that smart with computers. Images help. Thank you all in
advance.

I believe you just need to do (in firefox)  Menu, Options, Privacy, Show Cookies, Remove All.  Keep in mind that will probably log you out of any sites you normally use.

For a while now, Malwarebytes would block outbound connections to odd sites like mama.cn or cy-pr.com, among others. This would happen with no interactions on my part, I would leave it idle and this may occur once or twice a day every time I use it. For a while now, Malwarebytes would block outbound connections to odd sites like mama.cn or cy-pr.com, among others. This would happen with no interactions on my part, I would leave it idle and this may occur once or twice a day every time I use it.

What this is telling you is that something on your computer is calling out to those domains. Given the recurring nature of calls from your computer that is symptomatic of a malware infection that is not being detected. It could also be something related to a web browser setting (malicious plugin, malicious homepage, etc.)

I've done a full system scan with Malwarebytes and Avast, but both have turned up nothing.

Hello

I am trying to download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from Bleepingcomputer. Avast! Antivirus blocks it, as 'suspicious', and says 'Infection' :  Win:64evo-gen

A separate pop-up box says C:Users[file path].exe 'part could not be saved, because the source file coule not be read'.

Is this a false positive on Avast! ? and if so how do I work around it?

Thank you.

A:Avast! blocking FRST download from this website - false positive?

Hi gdnr This is indeed a false positive from avast!. This vendor has been known to targets many downloads hosted on BleepingComputer as false positives. Every single tools and programs hosted in the Downloads section of BleepingComputer are completely safe to use. The fault here is on the vendor's side, not BleepingComputer. What you can do is temporarily disable avast! to download and execute FRST, then re-enable it once it's done. Or you can disable avast!, download FRST, add it avast! exclusion list and then re-enable it. This should allow you to use it without avast! interfering.http://www.getavast.net/support/managing-exceptions

I think something is wrong but I'm not sure what.
For starters, I read that there are common Ports that should be blocked for internet security. I've tried to block these Ports in windows firewall, but immediately, in the Control Panel, under "Allow these programs through Windows firewall", I see my rules with a check in front of them. I want them blocked.
Some of the Ports I'm trying to block are: 135-139, 445, 5000, and some other remote Ports.
Does anyone know anything about this?
The operating system is Windows 7 home premium.

A:blocking ports on windows firewall

Okay, this is strange(?). If I enable the rule to block Ports in windows firewall, the rule is checked in "allow a program through windows firewall" located in the control panel under system and security(I never added my rule to the allowed program list). If I uncheck the rule in "allow programs through windows firewall", then the rule is disabled in windows firewall, and only in private profiles(which means the Ports are no longer blocked) . Initially, when I created the rules, I blocked public, private, and domain profiles in rule set up.
Maybe I'm off base but it seems like there is some kind of script to keep these Ports open.

I have noticed some odd things happening on my system. I did a netstat -ano and found several ESTABLISHED states, I have traced several to places in DC and Kansas. Is there a good software so I can block these connections? I have a RT-AC66R router. I am trying to figure out what is bringing in all these connections. In the past Zonealarm was a mainstream but I don't hear much about it any more.
Thanks

A:Blocking Hackers

A established tcp/ip connection in netstat dosnt mean its malware/hackers. A machine could have many legitimate established connections and states. If you want to look farther than a netstat -b or tasklist would match the PID or .exe to the process.
Assuming it was malware you wouldnt block it, you would remove the offending process from your machine with updated antivirus/antimalware apps.
A firewall could also alert you to a chatty process.

My Norton Antivirus keeps telling me that it is auto protecting my computer from Trojan.Gen.2 and Trojan.Zeroaccess.C.  I've done multiple scans and keeps reporting that my system is safe (which I highly doubt).  Also been noticing many popups on the Internet when watching Youtube clips (something from Adobe wanting me to allow something to download).
I have downloaded my removal tools before and had success at it.  However this one has me stumped and I could really use some help fast.

Thanks!!!!

Hello,

I had the system security 2012 virus and had someone here help me get rid of it. They suggested I post in this forum since windows is still blocking some start up programs from running. I downloaded startuplite and it only found two of the programs. All of the programs are legit files, but the only choice I have in windows defender is to remove it.

These are a few of the programs it's blocking on post #35:

A:Windows blocking start up programs after virus removal

Hi .I read through some of your posts, but not all...so, forgive me if I ask questions that seem redundant. You assert that "Windows" is blocking start-up programs....have you an error message that says that this is taking place? If so, can you post one such?Then...Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspxNo installation required.Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location. You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type: Attach the file to your next reply.Louis

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.     HijackThis is not the preferred initial scanning tool in this forum. With today's malware, a more comprehensive set of logs is required to determine the presence of malware.    Scan with FRST in normal modePlease download Farbar's Recovery Scan Tool to your desktop: FRST 32bit or FRST 64bit (If not sure: Start --> Computer (right click) --> properties) Run FRST.Don´t change one of the checkboxes and hit Scan.Logfiles are created on your desktop.Poste the FRST.txt and (after the first scan only!) the Addition.txt.     Scan with aswMBRPlease download aswMBR ( 4.5MB ) to your desktop.Double click the aswMBR.exe icon, and click Run.There will be a short delay before the next dialog box comes up. Please just wait a minute or two. When asked if you'd like to "download the latest Avast! virus definitions", click Yes.Typically this is about a 100MB download so depending on your connection speed it can take a short while to download and become ready.Click the Scan button to start the scan once the update has finished downloadingOn completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop, then copy and paste it in your next reply.Note: There will also be a file on your desktop named MBR.dat do not delete this for now. It is an actual backup of the MBR (master boot record).

Hello,

I need your help. I'm having the same problem as this one:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/496263/access-is-denied-and-disabled-windows-defender-microsoft-security-essentials/

I think I'm having exactly the same problem, but I can open my Windows defender but when I click the Start now button, the program disappears. and I tried it in services, and action center still not working! And I don't know what kind of virus it is. I think it's a virus that won't open it because my Malwarebytes won't open until I renamed it to "anything.exe" (as I've read in other forums). My USB gets infected also so I need to get Defender fixed.

Thank you. Looking forward to your reply

Hi everybody, how are you?

I am remotely fixing a Windows 7 desktop.   The initial problem was a ransomware-type virus.  I believe there are still unresolved problems because:

1) Internet Explorer will not download anything.  No pop-up windows, no indication of any attempt of any download.  I reset IE without any good results.
2) Google Chrome will not open because of the error box "chrome cannot read and write to its data directory.  C:\users\les\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data"

Both #1 & #2 are not a problem at all if I'm in safe mode with networking.

Please guide me

Again, please note I currently can download anything only in Safe Mode with Networking.

Hi,

I am new to this site so sorry if I am posting in the wrong section!

So I have both bitdefender and AVG free installed on my laptop, both of which i installed when i realised i had a virus. Before then i was just using the pre-installed anti-virus software. AVG says the virus is a tracking coookie smartadserver and has located it to the inetcookies folder which is empty. Every day I get at least 8 new pop up warnings telling me there has been another one found and every scan i do it finds minimum 4 every time. My computer is relatively new, just 6 months old, and it is performing terribly so i know that i definitely do have a virus.

Please help someone! I have exhausted all of my very limited knowledge of removing viruses and don't have the money to get it sorted by a professional.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Hello Crimson Fury and welcome to Bleeping Computer.
My name is Satchfan and I would be glad to help you with your computer problem. Please read the following guidelines which will help to make cleaning your machine easier:
please follow all instructions in the order posted
please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear
all logs/reports, etc. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In Notepad click Format, uncheck Word wrap if it is checked
if you don't understand something, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification before proceeding
the fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
please reply within 3 days. If you do not reply within this period I will post a reminder but topics with no reply in 4 days will be closed!
IMPORTANT:
Please DO NOT install/uninstall any programs unless asked to.
Please DO NOT run any scans other than those requestedMultiple antiviruses
Yoy say you have AVG and BitDefender antivirus programs installed.
You can not run two real-time antiviruses at the same time. Although many have different methods of searching for and recognising threats, they will all be 'fighting' in memory to kick each other out, rendering them all ineffective.
You need to disable one until we’re finished.
Open the AVG Control Center, by right-clicking on the AVG icon on task bar.
click on Tools
select Advanced
in the left hand pane, scroll down to "Resident Shield".
in the main pane, deselect the option to "Enable Resident Shield."
===================================================Note: Please run these in the order given in the instructions.
===================================================Download and run AdwCleaner
Download AdwCleaner from here and save it to your desktop.
run AdwCleaner
when it has finished, select Clean
if it asks to reboot, allow the reboot
on reboot a log will be produced; please attach the content of the log to your next reply.
===================================================Download and run Junkware Removal Tool Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
the tool will open and start scanning your system
please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications
on completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open
post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
===================================================Run Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
press Scan button
it will produce a log called Frst.txt in the same directory the tool is run from
please copy and paste log back here.
the first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the Frst.txt into your reply.
Logs to include with next post:AdwCleaner log
JRT.txt
Frst.txt
Addition.txt
Thanks

Hi everyone,

whenever I try to open a webpage or even just the browser's menus, I'm addressed to "adf.ly/ad/locked?url=cboew&t=s".
I've found a few solutions suggested on the web, but the problem is that they're Windows only.
I tried with an Application (AdwareMedic) to find and remove the adware/malware but to no avail.
I cannot find the files that seem to cause the problem for Windows users and I know that trashing cookies and re-installing Firefox isn't enough.
I managed to block the website with an Add-on, but  the adware keeps trying to connect to the browser. It's quite disturbing and I'd like to get rid of the problem once and for all.

Thank you very much for your time.

P.S. I'm using Yosemite 10.10.1 and Firefox 35.0.1

After downloading Skype back onto my computer after quite a long period of not using it I began receiving requests to be added to a persons contacts I was using my old Skype ID so nothing had changed from before and had - Unwanted Skype Requests Blocking never used it so I had no existing contacts I sent a message to the first but did not add the person to my contacts and never called Since then I have Skype - Blocking Unwanted Requests received about one request a day and many of them are definitely not legit they have totally ridiculous Skype addresses just a load of random letters and numbers One time I received a call and clicked through too fast and mistakenly connected and on connection I could only hear a lot of weird noise I guess that this is some kind of malware but I don't know its purpose Is it malicious or some kind of adware Whatever it is I don't want it I set the privacy settings to only allow people in my contacts list to be able to contact me but the requests kept coming I reported each one as spam but the requests kept coming Finally I decided to uninstall Skype In the near future I will probably be using Skype on a regular basis unless there is a viable alternative which I don't think there will be So I would really like to solve this problem Firstly I could change my Skype name would that help But secondly if the malware knows my computer by another means malware already on my computer or some kind of poisoned cookie this won't help I was using the free version of Skype but if I do use it in the future I'll probably use the pay version so is this just something you have to put up with when something is free If I pay for the service I would be very annoyed to have constant contact requests Some of the requests look marginally genuine I'm not so Skype savvy so is it that it's is the deal

A:Skype - Blocking Unwanted Requests

What's keeping me from accessing websites like these. Is it a trojan? Malware? I remember I was recently infected but I removed the trojan with anti malware bytes.

On Windows 7. Most malware-removal-related sites are blocked, this one included, along with various news sites, Facebook, Amazon and others (some come and go, some only partly load, some are blocked completely and permanently, as if the server were down).
This started when a rogue Flash plug-in installed an executable in C:\ProgramData (bin2dbex).
Any help would be appreciated. I ran RKill and Rootkit Remover (McAfee) and nothing came up.
Cheers,
Andy
Edit: oh, it also hides all hidden and system files every time I turn my laptop on.
Edit again: hosts file is clean.

Hello A customer brought in a laptop that was infested with quite a few PUPs torjans viruses adware and just about everything else I have removed all the PUPs Win attempts URL 8.1 reports blocking Avast outgoing using a combination of adwcleaner JRT Malwarebytes and Avast reports blocking outgoing URL attempts Win 8.1 Avast and Trend Micro's House Call Anything left over was removed using Revo uninstaller I Avast reports blocking outgoing URL attempts Win 8.1 then perfromed the Windows update At this point I wanted to run the AVG rescue disk but this laptop doesn't have an optical drive I have a copy on a USB flash drive but even though I get the UEFI to allow booting Avast reports blocking outgoing URL attempts Win 8.1 from a USB device it keeps refusing to boot from the flash drive At this point I'm not sure if it's the drive or the computer causing this The problem is that even though the computer works perfectly Avast keeps reporting that it has blocked malware It seems to be outgoing attempts to contact assorted websites and I'm really not sure if these are false positives or a legitimate function For example don't click these links hxxp bestdriverstar net segmentsustainer dll Process svchost exe hxxp anythicago com seekerinstance dll missed the process on this one hxxp simplesitescan net softwareForce dll Process c windows system svchost exe They all follow the same pattern of Avast going ding-ding-ding Threat has been detected and then a window will pop up showing it blocked an attempt at outside communication URL Mal I have done the full Avast scan that reboots the computer and scans everything and it did find some infected files which were quarrantined or removed I'm still getting this problem though In Programs and Features I have looked through the entire list and all the remaining programs are from Microsoft ASUS Adobe Alcor Micro Corp USB card reader Atheros netwrok driver bluetooth driver client installation program IvoSoft Classic Shell or Intel Nothing unusual that I can find Can someone tell me if I'm chasing a flase positive or if there is still an infection The Avast website seems to think there is still an infection causing these warnings FYI I just discovered that the laptop is toasting my AVG rescue USB flash drive I reformatted it and used diskpart to get it bootable again put the AVG rescue files back on the drive and tested it on a Dell desktop and it worked perfectly When I put it into this laptop and set UEFI to allow it to boot one of two things happens Either the option to allow this USB device to boot is just gone or it will just not boot from the USB flash drive This time when I tried it I retested the USB flash drive in another PC and it is now corrupted I think the virus is corrupting the flash drive

Switch the machine to Windows Defender, give it a good & proper cleaning* then, scan (Full) w/ WD.  Remove any unwanted or unneeded programs, as well; including any 'computer tuner-uppers'

Let me start by saying that I did an internet search of my problem and found what seems to be the closest thing to my problem, as well as, the most comprehensive answer in this thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/518718/windows-defender-blocking-all-downloads/ Like this poster, I have had problems with Windows Defender blocking downloads saying they have a virus and have been deleted. Not all, but some that I know are false positives. And I, too, have downloaded malware removal software, tried Hitman Pro and anti virus scans with nothing coming up. Although, renaming Windows Defender doesn't seem to work for me. Here is my system information:    I am running Avast antivirus. I would like to try the solution posted in the other thread, but I wanted to check and see if anyone could guide me through this. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I keep getting popups from Malware Bytes that say "data.rbtfy.com" has been blocked. It's very annoying and I want to make an exception for it so it will stop popping up, but I want to be careful because I don't know what it is. It says it's coming from Avast, my anti-virus. Any ideas on how I should address this?

Thank you.

A:rbtfy? Avast keeps blocking it

First, read This Topic for allowing Web Exclusions from your program.
Next, follow the directions in This Topic to install a fresh version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program.
Next uninstall or disable  Avast antivirus while you scan with ESET Online Antivirus - (See below)Temporarily Disable your Antivirus
Run ESET Online Scanner.
For Internet Explorer users only, hold down Control  (Ctrl) and click on This Link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
Click the ESET Online button.
For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu. to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu icon on your desktop.
Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
Click the Start button.
Accept any security warnings from your browser.
Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives and Remove Threats"
Click Advanced settings and select the following:Scan potentially unwanted applications
 Scan for potentially unsafe applications
 Enable Anti-Stealth technology
ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer.
Please be patient as this will take some time (2 hours is not unusual for a first scan).
When the scan completes, click List Threats
Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
Click the Back button.
Click the Finish button.
NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

Copy and Paste any logs from these programs back here and tell us if there has been any change to your problems.

A:Something is blocking me from updates and some websites

This morning when I woke up my computer I got this error:
"windows cannot access the specified device, page, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
The file in question was C:\programdata\Microsoft\security\client\temp\tmp84E.exe
I didn't see that file in that location, but saw several similar named .tmp files in that folder, so I just deleted everything in that folder.
I also just had the thought to check my processes, and saw that 4 Internet explorers are running in the background. One of them is using more memory than any of my other processes.
I still can't connect to download updates for Microsoft Security Essentials or Mbam...
Just completed a quick scan with Mbam, nothing was detected. About to do a full scan again.

Hello, I'm new to forum.  I've noticed in last day or two that Avast reports on wakeup that it's blocking URL:Mal 6 or 7 times while I'm typing in my password to get to my start screen.

I'm running windows 8.1.  Avast 2015.

I did a full scan with Avast, a root scan with reboot overnight, but that didn't seem to remove the issue.

I've installed a few programs to find the malware:
Spybot-S&D
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SuperAntiSpyware

Everything I've run or tried hasn't eliminated the behavior.  I'm hoping someone here can help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Folks I'm not sure where to post this thread so forgive me if this is the wrong section of the forum Has anybody else come across this tracking cookie It gets regularly picked up and deleted by Super AntiSpyware I'm not a particular fan of this malware tool and much prefer MalwareBytes but it DOES persistent - cookie nuisance minadvertising tracking pick up some tracking cookies that MBAM misses It also appears as ad minadvertising com Before posting this I searched on various forums and the internet generally to try and find some clue as to which sites I visit regularly that could be delivering it and I found nothing I've tried to block it on a browser by browser basis but it still keeps coming back I've now tracked persistent nuisance tracking cookie - minadvertising it down to the Internet Explorer cookies folder but the weird thing is that I've disabled IE some time ago and cleared everything out with PrivaZer I'm thinking that maybe it constantly re-appears because some other software is still using IE in a phone-home type of situation and running it in the background Anybody got any hints or tips to stomp this thing persistent nuisance tracking cookie - minadvertising out of existence at least on MY computer Thanks

Malwarebytes intentionally does not search for and remove cookies because they pose no significant threat...it has more important things to look for.We do not detect or remove cookies as they are not considered a malware threat to your system. There are plenty of 3rd party programs to remove or you can even have most browsers automatically remove if you like.Malwarebytes forum, Post #2 by AdvancedSetup (Root Admin)Cookies are text string messages given to a Web browser by a Web server. Whenever you visit a web page or navigate different pages with your browser, the web site generates a unique ID number which your browser stores in a text (cookie) file that is sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from that server. Cookies allow third-party providers such as ad serving networks, spyware or adware providers to track personal information. The main purpose of cookies is to identify users and prepare customized Web pages for them.Persistent cookies have expiration dates set by the Web server when it passes the cookie and are stored on a user's hard drive until they expire or are deleted. These types of cookies are used to store information between visits to a site and collect identifying information about the user such as surfing behavior or preferences for a specific web site.Session cookies (transient or Non-persistent cookies) cookies are not saved to the hard drive, do not collect any information and have no set expiration date. They are used to temporarily hold information in the form of a session identification stored in memory as you browse web pages. These types of cookies are cached only while a user is visiting the Web server issuing the session cookie and are deleted from the cache when the user closes the session.Cookies can be categorized as:Trusted cookies are from sites you trust, use often, and want to be able to identify and personalize content for you.Nuisance cookies are from those sites you do not recognize or often use but somehow it's put a cookie on your machine.Bad cookies (i.e. persistent cookies, long term and third party tracking cookies) are those that can be linked to an ad company or something that tracks your movements across the web.The type of persistent cookie that is a cause for some concern are "tracking cookies" because they can be considered a privacy risk. These types of cookies are used to track your Web browsing habits...your movement from site to site. Ad companies use them to record your activity on all sites where they have placed ads. They can keep count of how many times you visited a web page, store your username and password so you don't have to log in and retain your custom settings. When you visit one of these sites, a cookie is placed on your computer. Each time you visit another site that hosts one of their ads, that same cookie is read, and soon they have assembled a list of which of their sites you have visited and which of their ads that you have clicked on. Cookies are used all over the Internet and advertisement companies often plant them whenever your browser loads one of their banners.Cookies are NOT a "threat". As text files, cookies are inherently harmless and cannot be executed to cause any damage. Cookies do not cause any pop ups or install malware and they cannot erase or read information from a computer. Cookies cannot be used to run code (run programs) or to deliver viruses to your computer. I have never had a problem with my printer until the last couple of days.  When I run the troubleshooter it tells me that my firewall is blocking the lexacoms.exe and lxeawbgw.exe files.  Have no idea how this occurred but can anyone tell me
how to let these files through my Windows Firewall?  I'm not even sure where to find them in the Lexmark program files!

Hi
Yesterday I accidentally installed a load of dodgy programs which were apparently bundled in with a free trial of a program I was trying to install. Nosibay Bubble Dock is one of them but I think there are several things going on. I'm getting popups constantly which Avast is identifying as threats and the computer is very slow. I've run Avast scan and it found some problems but the malware shut it down when I tried to clean them. I also installed and ran adwcleaner which identified problems and appeared to allow me to resolve them but the popups and slow down persist - the malware/virus is blocking the software. I'd really appreciate some help. It's Windows 8. Thanks
Ben

Hello, benus333. Welcome to the forum! My nickname is Nevan and I will be helping you getting your system back on its electronic feet.

Before we get started, please keep these things in mind:

Always read every part of my post carefully. If you don't, you may do something wrong and there could be more problems to solve.
If your security programs give you any warnings when using tools I asked you to, don't be afraid. Every tool I provide to you is 100% safe.
Only run tools that I ask you to. Some of them can be dangerous to your system as they have much power.
You should save or print my instructions. It is possible that we will be using Safe mode, which will cut you off from your internet connection and without access to them, you might be stuck.
Malware removal is a complicated process that takes multiple steps to be completed. Don't give up, be patient.
The tools we are going to use and your software may cause unwanted interactions. Because of that, I recommend you to make backups of any important files from your machine before proceeding as they might be lost.
I recommend you to stay with me until I tell you that we are done. It is important because when your system does not show any bad symptoms anymore it does not mean that it is 100% clean.
Every program I ask you to download should be saved to and run from desktop. If you don't know how to choose the direction of where a download is saved, check this site. You can also just copy these programs to your desktop manually and then run them from there.
Remember that the fixes I give you are only for your machine. Using it on other systems may (and probably will) cause problems.
Finally, if you have any questions or are unsure about something, just ask. I will not blame you for it. It is better to ask rather than regret it later.

Let's get started
First, I'd like to have a look at your system. Please, do the following:

FRST Scan

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. There are two different versions:

Click here to download the 32-bit version.
Click here to download the 64-bit version.
If you don't know which version you should use, download one of them and check if it's working or not. If it doesn't, download the second one. Once you have the right one, perform the instructions below.

Right click FRST.exe (or FRST64.exe) and click Run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Make sure that Addition.txt is checked and press the Scan button.
It will produce two logs - one called FRST.txt and another one called Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
Select all (CTRL+A) the content of the logs, copy them (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) them into your next reply.

Things that should appear in your next post:

FRST.txt log content
Addition.txt log content

In Windows Live Mail, current version: My marking incoming mail as junk moves it to the junk folder. When I do this, perhaps to many successive messages from the same sender, does it have any effect on whether or not subsequent mail from this sender will be sent to the junk folder rather than the inbox?

I use the current (2012) version of Windows Live Mail. At the Blocked Senders tab in Safety Options, I'm asked (at the bottom) what I want to happen when I click "Delete and block." Although it would be useful, I've never encountered this "Delete and block" choice. I'm guessing that perhaps it was offered in earlier versions of WLM and the reference at the Blocked Senders tab was just overlooked in the current upgrade.

Is the "Delete and block" option currently offered anywhere in WLM? If so, where?

A:WLM blocking junk mail: question 1 of 2

Yes, I'm using Windows Live Essentials 2009 14.0.8117.0416, and it has the settings:

"E-mail and news from addresses or domain names on your Blocked Senders List will always be treated as junk messages."

When I click "Delete and block:"

_Bounce the blocked messages back to the sender
_If the email is a nesletter, unsubscribe me from the mailing list.
