Still trying in vain to update my BIOS

Q: Still trying in vain to update my BIOS

HI guys I BIOS to vain Still update my trying in desperately need some expert help here I have an ASUS M N-E motherboard here s the site for it h t t p ca asus com product aspx P ID NFlvt av F ayQ had to add spaces to Still trying in vain to update my BIOS the first bit as the system here won t let me post links for some reason I ve had it for about or years with a Ghz single core processor It s been good enough up until I bought Starcraft - and I failed to notice that the game requires a Ghz single core processor as a minimum preferably a dual core I figured I was probably due for an update and decided to get a new computer Then I discovered that all the computers within my budget would fail to get the job done THEN I noticed the box that my motherboard came in and for the first time noticed it said in big letters right on the front of the box quot Dual-Core CPU ready quot Well duh if I d been observant enough to notice that years ago I would have updated my bloody processor ages ago but oh well I figured hey I m saved So I went out and bought an Athlon II X Ghz quad core processor - much to my amazement it s on the list of supported CPUs for my motherboard The M N-E is an AM chipset I think and the new chip is AM - but the ASUS site still insists it s kosher So here s the problem it says I have to update my BIOS - it s a little scary I admit since one of my computers in the past died during the procedure - but anyway I went for it Repeatedly I tried the BIOS but whenever it got into the ASUS EZ Flash utility it ALWAYS hangs up when it says quot erasing blocks quot - the status bar next to it never moves I left it for a half an hour and it still didn t move I then tried the BIOS - same thing I used a USB flash drive to store the new bios version on as the motherboard s manual says to it also specifies something about using a FAT format - presuming meaning that the file allocation tables need one of those three formats however when I format my USB drive my options are FAT FAT and FAT ex I think It was set on FAT originally Using that format the EZ BIOS Flash utility does see the USB drive and seems to be able to read from it - it can see the file name and date of the BIOS version I m attempting to install So after that failed I tried reformatting it to FAT but then the utility wasn t able to see the USB drive at all I reformatted it back to FAT again and again it could see it but it still hangs up after quot erasing blocks quot So yeah I m kinda stumped Oh the manual also says something about a second way to go about it using the AwardBIOS flash utility which I ve downloaded - but it requires a boot disk and I don t have a floppy drive Is it possible to use a USB drive to make a boot disk After you tech wizards manage to get my head put on straight about this I ll have to beg for help about my new graphics card too - I bought a XFX Radeon but whenever I put it in the system doesn t even boot up I think I m just gonna go buy an abacus edit oops Windows XP home edition Gb DDR ram w power supply uhh I dunno if there s any other relevant info here nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Floppy drives with cables are less than $4.00 around these parts... maybe that is the best way to go for a six year old motherboard.

Hard to believe that board is Dual Core Ready? or that it is 5 or 6 years old. Tell us more?

you want to be very careful flashing a BIOS if you have never done it before... That is a certain way to ruin a motherboard, unless you have a good manual or guidance... for first timers.

My last BIOS update has failed and now my laptop Satellite PrU400 PSU45E is out of order.
I want to use the Crisis Recovery Disk with an USB floppy drive but I don't know the key combination to run the boot-block.
Is anybody can help me?

Best regards

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

Hello everyone I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn t find any kind of solution update BIOS B590 failure! Lenovo BIOS FLASH! Black... for my problem Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system which also previously was Windows Ultimate x The installation went as usual and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site for my product When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i ve needed i Lenovo B590 BIOS update failure! BIOS FLASH! Black... stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop by the producer So i proceeded to install the upgrade restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing things that i did not understand at the time i have never encountered anything like that After that my screen turned black I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter When trying to boot it all up again the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else After doing a little bit of research it appears that somehowm i ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something and nothing else would work at this point I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back tryed resetting the bios by taking out the battery but nothing would work I would be really thankful if anyone would be kind enough to point me one way or another as i do not know what to do at all nbsp Around the webz i found some way of creating a bootable usb flash drive where i would put a compatible version of BIOS from the site and then install it onto the laptop but i do not quite know how to do that properly either as the software they are pointing me to wincrisis is not working by any means

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

A:Problems with Nvidia gpu post BIOS system BIOS update.

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

A:Tecra 9100 - BIOS block 1 damaged and how to update BIOS?

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

I have a five-month old HP Compaq Presario Laptop, which has been working fairly decently (I've had a few virus scares, and my Norton quarrentined something a twenty days ago). On HP's advice, I just updated the BIOS on my laptop. It's currently stuck at Verifying New Bios Image, and it's at 100% - It's been stuck that way for a half-hour plus. Any advice? What should I do?

Hey @Rahul_mk,  I would like to welcome you to the HP Support Community. If my reply resolves your issue or answer your question(s),  please let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. I understand that you did a BIOS upgrade but it did not take well to your HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab522tx. You mentioned that your Notebook is now slow and games and movies are stuttering.  Many HP Notebooks have an HP BIOS Restore tool that may recover the BIOS from an earlier version and restore basic functionality. Please follow the documentation to do a BIOS reset.  Have you tried to perform a hard reset?Which BIOS version did  you upgrade to? You said that Windows 10 is up to date.Have you tried using the HP Support Assistant for updates also?  You can try following the below steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup Settings:In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.Select Load Setup Defaults.Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Please re-post with any information you think may help me find a resolution for you. Please also let me know if the BIOS reset works. If you would like to show you appreciation for my efforts today, please take a second to click the Thumbs Up button below. I am glad that you joined in!  Have a great day!

Hi, I saw the new BIOS version 1.25 dated ?14?.?09?.?2016 appearing on Lenovos support site. I did not check the version I was having on my system before downloading the "new BIOS", so I started the installer and the tool told me I already have this BIOS version. msinfo32.exe tells me I am having BIOS 1.25 dated 13.07.2016. So apparently the BIOS was released already some time ago and I already flashed it to 1.25. So whats the point of re-releasing the 1.25? If there are any changes of todays version compared to the 1.25 released some time ago, is it worth flashing? If yes, how can I do this if the tool tells me I am already having the latest version and it does not let me override my BIOS? Thanks and best regards,Martin

a friend gave me his HP DV6500 Notebook to fix it. He said it made an update and then for hours nothing happened. He shut it and started again.

I could see that it tried to recover 2 times. The second time it was successful but it somehow resetted or returned the Vista to a fresh install!!! His data was locked in a previous User account, I backed it up on a usb-stick with a linux live cd.

I can't make a reinstall because now a bluescreen always appears even when I boot from Vista DVD.

ntoskrnl.exe corrupt when try to boot vista in the normal way.
How can I fix that without being able to use the repair option of the DVD?
Sorry, the title of the thread is wrong. I figured out already that the BIOS version is for an Intel. So everything is ok with the BIOS actually.

A:Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

I have the same board on another pc.

You only need to download and install only that which would make your setup current.

You really only need to update the bios if you will be moving up to a newer processor that is not currently supported by the current bios or if the newer bios fixes a known problem.

You need the latest motherboard chipset driver. (I would install this first if you haven't already)

You need the latest LAN driver.

The audio driver you can either download from Asus or from RealTek.

Dell just saying it's a "possibility" the motherboard might need to be replace. No one can tell you that motherboard is definite "Fried" without first looking at the system.

hi, i have been hitting my head for long to get the answer of this question... and got no sophisticated answer in my google search, hopefully u guys could help me out..

well, they ask for BIOS UPDATE, gather your bios version n brand name, go for appropriate site nd have update..?
but the question that arise in my mind..(being tech student and encounter this bootstrap loader numerous times) is
BIOS IS A "ROM" CHIP, and so we must only be able to read from it..
then how is it possible to write on it and update the BIOS and more over, in my college books i find.. if u want to update your bios then u have to change your entire chip or sometime even motherboard

hopefully i will find sufficient answer.. thanx for anyhelp

Hello, I have updated my HP Elite 8200 CMT from windows 7 to windows 10. In the HP driver download page, there is no BIOS update for windows 10. But I have noticed that there is BIOS update for Windows 7.  The question is, may I use it on Windows 10 ?  And in general, are BIOS updates OS dependant ?

A:Bios update after update to Windows 10

Hi: You can pull the DOS based flash file folder out of the BIOS package, copy just the contents of the DOS flash folder to a USB flash drive formatted with the FAT file system. Plug the flash drive in a usb port, restart the PC, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options. Select the F10 System setup option to gain access to the BIOS. Select the File menu>Flash system ROM command.  Select the USB flash drive. The PC will see the files on the flash drive.  Follow the on screen prompts to update the BIOS. That way it makes no difference what operating system you are running. One very important note...I have read the installing the latest BIOS 2.29 causes issues with W10. There is a forum post regarding that... am running v2.28 on my HP 8200 Elite CMT, and have no issues at all on W10. I read that post and decided not to update the BIOS to v2.29.

Unless you are experiencing a specific problem due to the out of date BIOS you should not attempt such an update. In the event of the update going bad you computer will be rendered completely useless and close to irreparable. At the same time it is unlikely that updating the Bios will give you any benefit, if indeed a new BIOS is actually available.

Recently I did a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop, and was also using the F.27 version of BIOS downloaded via HP Support Assistant. After the clean install, I forgot to install HPSA, but still went on to check my product page for available drivers and updates.I donot know why my laptop is not supported for Windows 10, though it runs it perfectly smoothly... So I had to go to the download section for Windows 8.1. And there was a BIOS update  Now based on my little knowledge, I know that it is absolutely incorrect to downgrade the BIOS, but still downloaded it and gave it a try when the following screen appeared I know something is not right here... Any suggestions?

Dont use HPSA on W10 for that model, do not update the bios using HPSA. You have the latest bios available and probably will be the the last version ever released, Windows Updates will find any new driver updates, so HPSA is no longer needed on that model, uninstall it.

A:BIOS update. how?

You need to download and unzip two files from the Asus website. One is the BIOS file, the other is the Award BIOS flash utility.

Within the flash utility zip folder is a readme.txt with step by step instructions. You can make the required boot floppy on another computer. If the PC with the a7a266 motherboard doesn't have a floppy drive you will need to make a bootable CD/DVD instead.

I have a HP Pavilion 8705 running XP. It runs horribly! I added more memory to see if it would improve my performance, but it only helped a little bit. There are no virus/malware problems so that's not the issue. Ive removed the original processor (800 MHz Pentium II) and put in a Centrino 1.0 GHz because the Pentium II was extremely slow.

I also have an issue with the start up. I get a message after the blue HP screen appears saying that my primary hard disk is faulted and it needs to be replaced. Ive ran every diagnostic program to see if there is a problem with it and no problems are found. The message started showing up after I installed the new processor.

So I went to the BIOS manufacturer (Phoenix) of my laptop and after running this tool (see link below) it urged me to flash my BIOS (Phoenix v.1.05):

Download BIOSAgentPlus

Problem is that I have to pay money for that!

So I decided to visit the ACER website:

Alternatively, how can I flash my BIOS for FREE?

A:How do I update my BIOS?

Unless you are trying to fix a problem with hardware incompatibility and for which the motherboard maker / Dell have released a fix specifically relating to the issue, you should not flash the BIOS.

It is certainly not a "recreational activity", it is normally done only when a new Windows version or such things as RAID arrays need to be accommodated, or similar events.

If a BIOS flash goes bad (and sadly a reasonable % do) then often the motherboard can be economically unrepairable, which in a Dell system means a new specific Dell motherboard of exactkly the same model or the installed Windows version will not work, requiring a new copy.

A failed BIOS flash leads to a high expense in other words, so unless you have absolute evidence it is needed, don't go there!

A:BIOS Update

Hi alterego71 !

Please post your system specs, see the link in my sig. We'll need the brand and model of your motherboard but having all the information right from the start will help.

A BIOS update usually corrects some very specific hardware compatibility issue. On the motherboard manufacturer's website you can read the release notes of the different versions of the BIOS. If nothing in the release notes seem to be related to your issues then chances are they're coming from somewhere else.

Have you tried uninstalling the java virtual machine and reinstalling it ?

Go to the device manager : start => run => devmgmt.msc. Expand sound video and game controller and tell us whether there's any warning sign next to your sound device. If so then double-click the device and give us the error message you'll see under device status. If there are other devices with some warning sign next to their name tell us about it. Have you reinstalled the motherboard drivers after you installed XP ? If not then this is likely to be your problem.

Tim_St Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Sorry, but if the ports are configured for USB 3.0 in hardware, there is no way to "downgrade" them to 2.0.

Questions - I downloaded an updated version of BIOS for my laptop recommended by HP I am using version F dated and the new version was F dated following the prompts I saved to desktop ensured all applications were closed and the computer was on AC power supply I opened ran and installed Following restart a windows error appeared that a critical error occured and prompted me to report the issue I opted not to and everything seemed to run OK I again restarted and entered set-up to verify change to BIOS and noticed that the new BIOS had not been installed and I was still using V F which struck me as curious since it appeared to install correctly with the exception of the windows error Any comments to this curious matter One may ask why I would feel it was necessary to update BIOS - the reason was a Bios Update recommendation from HP as a result of my Bios Update laptop s need to run the fan constantly overheat and then shut down Following web research I found that Compaq laptops including my Presario V had a habit of overheating and shutting down at the to year mark just like mine According to some this is a result of a computer defect related to the heat sink screws loosening and not seating correctly which results in overheating this statement remains unconfirmed on my part I did inspect the heat sink and I didn t notice any issue and didn t feel compelled to remove at that point in time I also checked the fan which didn t appear to be overly impacted by dust The fan runs OK if not all the time but still the overheating Does replacing the heat sink and fan seem the best option in this case or does updating BIOS seem the best solution I am not competent with BIOS if not a little leery of making drastic changes and updates but the overheating issue is becoming particularly troublesome and disconcerting Please comment

A:Bios Update

BIOS updates are best installed in small increments - a leap from F.07 to F.17 implies that there were 10 BIOS revisions in between. I'd suggest upgrading to F.10, then F.14, then F.17

Although flashing the BIOS is a dangerous thing, replacing the fan and heatsink can be also be a problem (and may not solve the issue).

Finally, since you've got some evidence of a problem with the heatsink screws - how's about just checking them to see if it's the issue?

Wasn't sure where to post this but my question is as follows. I noticed that a lot of motherboard sites say don't update the bios if your system is running fine. Wouldn't newer bios releases always be better than the one you have?

Hello all I m completely new to this forum and have signed up shamelessly because I have a problem Setup Intel E Asus P B Deluxe x WD GB in RAID Windows MCE Basically my computer was working fine so I decided to do some overclocking I updated the my BIOS? Why update I did firmware on my P B Deluxe to and after the restart windows loaded fine but off only Why did I update my BIOS? one of the HDs I realised it was because I hadn t changed the quot Configure SATA as quot to RAID in the BIOS so RAID wasn t in effect I changed the setting restarted and got the ntldr error Bummer I then put the windows disc in loaded the RAID drivers went into recovery console and copied ntldr exe and ntdetect com across to c NB It didn t ask me if I wanted to overwrite the existing files I also did fixboot Restarted the computer and the error s still there I then decided to rollback to the BIOS I had before I updated - - so I used ASUS EZ Flash All worked changed quot Configure SATA as quot setting to RAID again - ntldr error still there So I then booted into the windows CD again and ran fixmbr in the recovery console Restarted and the ntldr error disappeared and was replaced by the windows loading screen overjoyed but then quot autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK quot appeared What the hell do I do now This all started because I forgot to change the RAID setting when updating BIOS Any thoughts appreciated Jamie One more comment - could be useful - when the computer first restarted after I updated the BIOS and loaded into windows it said it had quot Found new hardware quot and then installed my hard drives and told me to restart This is when I realised I hadn t changed the RAID setting I restarted then restared again and changed the RAID setting nbsp

When I restarted my notebook today (10-Jun-2016)  it displayed a message saying that the BIOS was being updated but could not proceed because the machine was not plugged in. I plugged it in and let it continue. Now my fingerprint scanner has stopped working again!... I had to re-load Win10 recently to get it back after a registry corruption and I don't want to have to re-load again so what can I do to get my fingerprint scanner back? Thanks.

A:I need help to update my bios

Updating the BIOS is a bit dangerous, but if you follow all the isntructions it is pretty safe.
First, I would try removing all the memory except one module of 256. Then reboot to see what happens.

For the BIOS, Go to intel and read this:

ore read the info release:

You will find the BIOS at

The BIOS is named:

P15 dated 05/29/2003

Intel lflash.BIOS.update [HV86AP15BI.EXE] or similar

Just click on the right where it says "download"

If your computer doesn't need it, it won't install.

It is best to copy it to a floppy disc then boot to the floppy to install it, unless the Intel instructions are different.

A:New cpu, do i update bios?

The latest BIOS version has all the fixes and support of all previous versions therefore you only need the latest version.

Check what BIOS version you have now, if you have version 1604 or higher/newer than you do not need to update the BIOS. You can see the BIOS version when you turn on the computer or when you enter the BIOS setup by pressing DEL on boot up.

If you do need to update your BIOS to version then download the latest version and extract the ZIP file to a USB stick. Then enter the BIOS setup by pressing DEL when you boot the computer and go to the Tools section and then select EZ Flash with the USB stick already plugged in before rebooting. Then select the USB stick and then the file to update the BIOS.

The manual covers the update in more detail and there is more than one way to do it too, but download the manual from the Asus support site if you don't have the paper copy and go to section 3.8.1:

ASUS Update isn't allowing me to update my BIOS. I downloaded it from the ASUS website for the matching mobo and its sitting on my desktop. When I try open ASUS Update to install or flash it or whatever it says, "The model of the bios image doesn't match the bios rom currently present." The current bios is rom type: PMC 49FL004T LPC, model: k8v-mx, version: 1006.003

Comp Specs:

Well, is your downloaded BIOS for K8V-MX? It may be that your specific motherboard revision isn't supported by the BIOS flash program. Try some DOS utility supplied by ASUS or UniFlash.

If you don't know what BIOS you have don't flash it. If this is a production machine you would need to get any BIOS updates from the manufacturers site.

Solution for Updating the BIOS on Windows Vista x64 Machines (VistaJuice)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well dark.axon,

I'm running Vista 64 also & didn't have a problem updating BIOS. See if they have a BIOS installation option that you can run from within Windows itself. They usually have about 3 to 4 different ways to update BIOS. What's your motherboard's maker & model #? I'll look it up & see if I can't find a BIOS option for you also that'll run inside Vista.

I have a Packard Bell Dot S2 netbook and i would like to update the BIOS, i am just unsure how to go about it? I've read a few internet links but still unsure. I have ver 1.15 BIOS installed and on the Packard Bell web site there is ver 1.8 to 1.21. The installation files include a read me that states

"DOS: Run "FLASH.BAT" batch file to flash BIOS in pure DOS environment.
Windows x86/x64: Run "NAV50118.exe" to flash BIOS in Windows x86/x64 environments."

I have windows 7 starter installed and the standard netbook specs 1.6Mhz, 250Gb Hd, 2 Gb Ram, Intel 3150 Graphics. Is there instructions? or a step by step out there? or could someone list them?

Any help would be great

My friend called me today telling me that when he tried to install a new ati 256Mb video card, after installing the software and inserting the new card, the monitor wouldn't come on and when he put the old card back in everything worked fine. He then told me that when he called "tech support" they told him that he needs a new bios chip upgrade as well as a chipset upgrade. I thought that it sounded a little far fetched, because this computer is old but not ancient. It's a pentium 4 1500 MHz with 750Mb of ram. I was wondering if I really needed to update his bios and how to go about doing it because I know it's a tricky task, or if the problem lies somewhere else.

1. Is updating it dangerous, using the auto update feature? Cause I have a friend who updated his and fried the MoBo in the process.

2. Is it necesary?

3. Will it make Overclocking easier? Becase the BIOS setup I have now is not as nice as the one that came with my old Shuttle MoBo.

Bios update
i have downloaded the bios from the toshiba website and followed the
instructions but it does not work.

According to the instructions it says download it into a floppy and
update the Bios. They ask you to remove the laptop from the docking
station before updating. The floopy drive is in the docking station
and i dont have any thing else on the laptop except for a USB port.

Any way i tried using the docking station with the floppy in it but it
didnot work. I think there must be some way of updating please advise.

Do i have to have the boot up files to do this .Does the boot up files and Bios files have to be on the same disk If so let me know how to do this

A:Bios Update

First off, let me ask you why you are updating the BIOS. Unless you're fixing a specific problem, my advice is to forget about it. Many times, folks start out to update the BIOS, because it's newer, and end up with a doorstop!

Don't fix things that aren't broken.

I just recently pieced together a gaming cpu with the following CPU/MOBO:

Everything posted fine first boot. Installed OS, inserted driver disc that came with the MOBO and installed all of the suggested drivers, everything is being recognized and working correctly. Now, my question is whether I should even bother looking into downloading a new bios from the gigabyte website? I read somewhere that you need a particular bios to take full advantage of the Phenom IIs in this board. However, I have been unable to verify that anywhere. Thanks in advance.

A:Do I need to update the bios?

Post different links for mobo and CPU. That link listst 46 products. All AMD CPUs, to be exact.
Anyways, if there's no problems, don't "update" the BIOS. I'm pretty sure what board you have, and the BIOS flash for it is only to fix compatibility with certain Black Edition CPUs.
