I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can't legally used your Desktop's recovery media on your laptop (also because usually manufacturer's build such medium for a particular piece of hardware, with all drivers etc. pre-installed).

I think you can either choose to run Ubuntu or you can get one of those cheap OEM windows media from e.g. newegg. However, one draw back of this is, I believe you can't get any help from Microsoft directly, if you ever need it.

My hard drive failed on an Acer Aspire 5734z that I have. I replaced the hard drive and reloaded Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit from a downloaded copy. Since this is the same OS as originally came on this laptop, how do I get it validated? Or, alternately, how do I get a replacement OS without having to buy it again?

Soo I own an Acer Aspire V - G- laptop before the crash it was running windows which came preinstalled hard-drive disk Acer-Aspire recovery laptop died, V3 no The other day I had gotten a USB in order to make a recovery disk for Acer-Aspire V3 laptop hard-drive died, no recovery disk my laptop A few days before the hd corrupted and I had to completely reformat using its recovery partition but then before I could make said recovery disk the HD started 'buzzing' and needless to say it's dead now So I ordered an erecovery disk from Acer the other day and purchased a decent looking SS hard-drive I have the new hard-drive installed but who knows when the recovery disk will arrive So here's where you geniuses come in So I'd rather not wait for the disk to arrive as it might take up to weeks My brother informed me that I should be able to download windows online and use the product key that's usually listed on the back of the laptop However there is no win product key on the back - So I'm at a loss his laptop has a windows product key but mine doesn't Is it located somewhere else that I'm not looking I checked the bios but at first glance it didn't appear to be there and that's as far as I've gotten Any advice on how to get win onto my system legally without any more purchases so that I can be using my new SS-hd laptop preferably tonight Also possibly useful info I own a student copy of Win Ultimate upgrade that i'm not using which I would be fine using on my laptop but it is not a copy it is the upgrade so it requires a previous OS to be installed I own a student copy of Windows Vista upgrade that does not say it requires a previous OS to be installed I think the store sold me both so that I could have win at the time I've tried booting with both disks the vista loads and then freezes after the loading bar hits completion the win upgrade disk makes it a step further taking me to a windows loading screen and then freezes there Ok go p s I will love you forever if you help me TY

A:Acer-Aspire V3 laptop hard-drive died, no recovery disk

The Windows 8 key is embedded in the BIOS, there is no COA sticker.

I believe you will have to wait for the recovery disk if you want Windows 8 as you will not be able to download a Windows 8 ISO without a retail key. Microsoft really screwed this up and has made no attempts to fix it.

You can do a clean install of a Windows 7 upgrade disc, see here: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Help Forums

A:Acer Aspire One hard drive cable

i don't think you need parts. the HDD card connector is the big one under near (JHDD) the fan connector (JFAN), you just to slip the HDD cable inside and push back the connector.

A:acer aspire 5735-hard drive swap

If I understand you correctly I think you mean you want to be able to swap between 2 hard drives on your laptop, please correct me if I'm wrong

In answer to your question, yes you can do this without damaging the operating system on your HDDs but be sure to remove them when the machine is powered down.

I have had experience with replacing HDDs on various laptops including Acers and just wanted to give you the heads up that it can be more difficult than you think to get into the HDD bay; especially if you have to remove the whole plastic case to get to it.

However why do you not simply buy a cheap USB 2.5" caddy and put your smaller drive in there, then boot from it via USB? It would not require you to open up the laptop every time and would in most case be more convenient for both sharing files and quick OS changes. The only downside is that your drive may not have the performance of it's internal counterpart but that shouldn't be too noticeable in most cases.

I have an Acer Aspire computer designed for windows XP but is vista capable. on it I have a FAT32 drive which is full (72 GB), and an NTFS drive which is completely empty (72 GB). Both are primary partitions ATM. I tryed to download a patch for this game but it says I need more space.

Hello everyone.

OK, everything began since the monitor got damaged and was in a bootloop after hibernating Windows. So, we decided to repair the laptop, they said they no longer have parts for the monitor (although it got itself fixed while going home), but they fixed the bootloop. It was a installed with a Windows 8. After I opened "This PC", the 2nd hard drive was missing. My mom asked if they removed it or not, Acer replied that they did not removed the hard drive. I tried installing Windows 7, but the installer only saw the 1st drive. After installing Windows 7, I checked the BIOS (InsydeH20 Setup Utility), but it just really showed up the 1st one. So for now, I am only using 1 drive, and trying to keep my drive to have more space. Is there any fix for it? Please reply.

A:Acer aspire hard drive upgrade doesn't work.

You didn't say which OS you have but with Windows 7-up you should be able to create a recovery flash drive and save a system image on a hard drive. Then use the recovery drive to restart the machine with the new disk and when asked, tell it to recover from the system image you saved. ps this works if going from a smaller to an equal or larger disk but not to a smaller one.

Hello. I have an Acer Aspire One AOA150 netbook, and it was showing UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME as a stop error for windows XP. A:Data recovery from an Acer hard drive

In linux you might have to mount manually. Check if the system can read the drive/partitions. Running command....

sudo fdisk -lu
-or,
sudo blkid

sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/myfiles

cd /mnt/myfiles

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct sub-section of the forum but couldn't see a more appropriate place.

Any advice appreciated: I'm trying to do a factory restore on my Acer Aspire laptop, as it started crashing, stalling etc. and then eventually just failing to boot up. I've gotten a fair bit of my important stuff off it using a Linux (Knoppix) disc, so am ready to do a factory restore.

However, when I try to do so, I get the error message: "WIMApplyImage Fail. Error: 045D" then I click on "OK" and it says "FAIL to restore image"

Any ideas? I'm worried that my hard drive may be physically damaged. When I listen it's making the odd whirring/clicking noise, but doesn't sound particularly out of the ordinary to me.

Or, on the other hand, does anybody know of any alternative options to the in built Acer factory restore?

Thanks,

Chris

A:(Acer Aspire laptop) Factory Restore failing - hard drive damaged?

Hi Chris. Welcome to TSF.

Have you tried opening up a terminal window and running chkdsk /r on your system? You might also run "sfc /scannow" from within the terminal window as well just to see if perhaps your problems are system-file related.

The clicking noise you're hearing is a bit troubling as it is often an indicator of an impending hard drive failure. I'm glad that you backed up your stuff though. Often that is one thing many people do NOT do and then they are left scrambling for ways to recover their data.

Good day!

Mike

A:Acer recovery disk on new hard drive do not start.

Hi.. If you are using the recovery DVDs of this Acer Aspire M7721, it will not ask you to enter the product key, as it's the OEM WIndows and the product key is embedded on the DVD. To fix this issue, you may format the hard drive and try to install Windows using the recovery DVDs once again. Again, the computer will not ask you for the product key. Note: Formatting and installing Windows will cause data loss. Make sure that you backup the data before you format the hard drive.

Hello all!
The hard drive in my laptop is failing, I can run diagnostics but not boot windows. When it hits a certain point on the drive the laptop cuts out and restarts.
General consensus is new hard drive. Problem is; is it possible to somehow save the vista image so I can reinstall Windows on the new drive without having to go and buy a new OS?
Ps, I don't have a recovery disk.
Thanks.

Ok, my wife's hard drive is toast. Can't read at all. I even removed it, put it in an external enclosure with USB connection and tried to read it on my computer, nada. Tried Spinrite on it. Nada. So, it's gone, and I can't recover anything.

I'm buying a new HD. The OEM version of Windows 7 was pre-installed by HP on the laptop. So I have no disks. I do have the 3 Recovery Disks my wife created when we bought the machine. But when I was trying to revive the harddrive one of the recovery screens said Windows 7 had to be already installed on the hard drive for that to work.

So, is there anyway for me to get Windows 7 on the new HD short of buying a new copy? The laptop does have a sticker on it with a product key.

Steve

Hello,

I am using an Acer Aspire 5732z running Windows 7 and my audio has ceased to work. I cannot remember installing anything new of significance and have no idea what has caused it.

The volume button still appears on my taskbar and I can change the volume etc, but no sound plays.
I have checked whether it is muted. It is not.
I have tried reinstalling the Audio Realtek sound card drivers with no avail.
The laptop has speakers and I have used headphones. No sound plays through either.

Did you try the Windows Troubleshooter?
Start >Search, Troubleshooting. Hardware and Sound. Playing Audio?

Also check Audio services in services.msc, make sure its running.

Hey!
I have an Acer that spontaneously decided I no longer needed to play games. Everything else works perfectly fine. It's been doing this for the past few weeks and I've done all that I can. I'm no tech wizard by any means and I need some help. Pretty much it'll open to the load screen for a few moments then disappear back to my home screen. Any ideas on what it could be and what I can do?

These are the specs:
Acer Aspire V5 Touch with Windows 8.1

Model number: Z5WV2

If you need more info let me know, I still have everything for it.

If you are talking about the games that are loaded by a app. You will need to uninstall the app. Then reinstall the app. I have no ideal why this happens . But I have seen it more then once.

A:PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable after replacing failed Hard Drive

On some Toshiba's I've worked on, including my own Tecra, I press Escape and Function 1 to get a boot menu and with an XP CD in, there's a three second only window in which to "press any key" when the prompt appears. Are you seeing that prompt when you boot from CD? You might also benefit from formatting that hard disk in the other machine if you already started to install on it.

All I'd like is a link to a Win 7 starter ISO. For HP to sit back & pretend that most end-users (most who have never even set their VHS players) are capable of creating media is insane & dereliction of duty, imho. I have this netbook from grand-parents (now deceased). The hard drive is dead. Why in the world don't companies provide the stupid media to put back what you paid for? End of rant

Hey all I m new here so I hope I m posting in the right forum Here s my problem I have an Acer Aspire One Windows XP from a friend who wanted the malware removed I worked on it for a bit after a few frustrating hours I decided it was too far gone and proceeded to back up everything and do a factory restore I first tried it through the Acer recovery in Windows It got to a certain point stopped at DRIVER CAB the gave me a Restore Failed Reason xf So I clicked to restart and decided to try the Alt F Same thing it gets to the same spot and gives me the error Now when I try to boot normally it says quot NTLDR EXE is missing Press ctrl alt del to restart quot So I was stuck I emailed Acer support and they told me to do what I already tried to One Failed! Restore Acer Aspire do I emailed again and they told me the warranty was up and gave me a URL where I could order restore CDs So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas I could try other than ordering them Please note if you re not familiar with the Acer Aspire One it has NO CD ROM or floppy drive I will post more information if needed Thank you nbsp

A:Acer Aspire One Restore Failed!

Do you have a USB thumb drive? My daughter has one of these. It has XP Home. Do you have a legitimate copy of XP Home? Copy it direct to the thumb drive and set the bios to boot from USB drive and use the key on the back of the unit to install. If the home CD is OEM there is a chance it won't except the key.

Those can be really hard to fix. Youtube might have tear apart guides. But its better to just hook up a bluetooth or usb keyboard to it.

A:Acer Aspire 4738G Windows Failed

Sounds like a hLCD or GPU problem, try plugging the laptop into an external monitor or TV, if the screen shows there then we knows it LCD related. If the LCD trick worked, do some light gaming and see if the dots appear. Also if the external monitor worked, it may be a good idea to have a look at the display settings.

Also was your laptop hot before this happened? The heat of my old laptop, damaged the screen.

Acer Aspire M5940 2-years old has a failed motherboard according to Geek Squad. They advise PC is not worth repair. Contacted Acer but no help there in buying a replacement motherboard. My questions are: Can some programs on that hard drive be transferred to a new pc's hard drive (software was bundled and I don't have discs) and where can I locate the correct motherboard for this Acer to determine for myself if its too expensive to repair this PC?

A:Sony Vaio formatted hard drive & windows recovery media- cant install

YOu would not want System Recovery Options to boot the Recovery Disks. Put the first one in the drive, reboot and press the F12 key until you receive a Boot Menu, choose DVD drive to boot - unless you have a EFI BIOS in which case you should boot the DVD as a EFI/UEFI DVD drive.

Once you successfully boot the disk it should start Recovery, prompting for the subsequent disk(s).

If this fails then boot into System Recovery Options to open a Command Line to run Diskpart Clean Command which can overcome problems running Recovery media.

Be aware that Factory Recovery is a grossly inferior install larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities that interfere with better versions built into Win7. For that reason most tech enthusiasts prefer to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 to get true Win7 performance. We can help you do this if you want. It discusses in Step 1 how to find the reinstallation media.

I really hope someone can help me--I have no recovery media no recovery partition thanks to gateway and no idea how it got from what seemed like a normal update to this I'll start from the beginning Tonight I went to restart my computer and surprisingly it needed to update though it had installed some a few days ago I thought little of it and waited I sat for about half an hour and upon the second time it restarted it said quot we couldn't Acer error! Aspire V3-551 boot to Failed Help! updates complete the changes--- Help! Failed updates to boot error! Acer Aspire V3-551 quot etc and stayed Help! Failed updates to boot error! Acer Aspire V3-551 on that screen for another half hour It then restarted And went to the screen again I waited mins before holding the power button down to shut it off Turned it back on and the screen came up again So I tried to use f to access the boot menu and found it password protected somehow I'd never seen this before I looked up how to remove the password and removed the bios battery and replaced it This fixed that issue So now able to get to boot options I decided I'd enable the f recovery menu and try to use startup repair or system restore Startup repair failed system restore said I needed a system image And recovery said the drive Windows is on is locked I know the previous hd had a Windows recovery partition but ever since gateway replaced it it does not So turning it off and on once more it now gives a Help! Failed updates to boot error! Acer Aspire V3-551 boot error x f tells me to insert recovery media and shuts off and restarts in a loop This has gone horribly wrong There's been no power surge the he should be physically fine I removed all power sources and the hd before resetting the bios battery and was careful in replacing everything and I don't see what else could have been done as far as turning off my laptop when it was stuck on reverting the changes from the failed update I can't afford to pay for recovery media or worse yet having it repaired right now as I have important files on my hard drive that I'd like to recover by not just replacing the hard drive and I need this laptop for my work I hope this post is understandable since I'm writing from a phone and I'm half out of my mind with worry--I've been up very late trying to fix this Can anyone help me

Since you're using an external burner I'm not sure if this will work as it seems to run in SAFE MODE.

I wasn't able to find information for this at Acer Support. But I did find this on another forum:
-------------------------------
For those that is still interesting in knowing how to create an eRecovery disk in Acer Aspire 4720Z:

When you start your computer press F2 {it will take you into your BIOS}; go over to Main; go down to D2D Recovery {make sure it is enabled}; F10 save; then your computer will restart.

When your computer boots: Press Alt+F10; it will bring up Acer eRecovery Management {at the bottom} click on Burn Disc; then click on Create factory default disc; insert a blank disc in burner; click next. It will give you step by step instruction on how to burn your disc; it will also inform you of when to change to another blank disc.
[Estimated image size is 6.4 GB. You will need either {blank} 11 CDS or 2 DVDs].

I have an Acer Aspire AX3400 desktop running Windows 7 64bit. I have been having all sorts of problems over several months. The machine, when left unattended, appears to be always "recovering from serious error" with subsequent memory dumps. The machine would not shut down without me having to switch it off. Subsequently the machine would not start up properly. iTunes would not open without a reboot etc etc etc. I decided to backup all my data and restore to factory settings. This has failed/ is incomplete. It hung for several hours at different stages of the process. I keep getting the message "Setting up PC for first use" and does not move on from there. I'm unable to run in Safe Mode because the setup hasn't been completed. I have a restore disk but this hasn't helped. Would really appreciate some help.

A:Acer Aspire Desktop failed to restore factory settings

Did you try to restore from the disc or the recovery partition.

PS: My guess would be that one source of your troubles is iTunes. I have seen a lot of people having trouble with that.

I had updated my driver with BIOS version 2.10 from windows. BIOS installed successfully but after restart, screen went black. Screen is totally off, no activity with hardisk, no beep sounds, shows power is turned on and fan is spinning. I let it on for about 3-4 minutes and showed no progress. So, I turned off holding power button. Later every time I turn on the laptop nothing shows up with power is on and fan spinning. Someone please help me to recover my BIOS.

Hi, Welcome to TSG and thanks for the info.
I can't help with the issue you raise but I suggest you take your email addr out before it gets picked up by a spambot.
People will reply in this thread or by pm.

Richard

Spambot: Def from a spamguide

"What is a spambot?

A Spambot is a piece of software, a program that someone has written. Which language it was written in does not matter, but most are probably written in C for speed and portability reasons. A spambot should not be confused with regular robots, also known as spiders or web-crawlers.
A spambot starts out on a web page. It scans the page for two things: hyperlinks and email addresses. It stores the email addresses to use as targets for spam, and follows each hyperlink to a new page, starting the process all over. Spambots also usually do not follow the guidelines in the robots.txt file, like civilized robots are supposed to. Most spambots are a part of a larger program, allowing them to send out the spam to email addresses as it find them. Others merely store the email addresses for later use.
Spambots vary in their intelligence and sophistication, but even the smartest can be fairly easily fooled by the tricks on this site. The simplest spambot would simply find mailto links, and follow each hyperlink as it comes up, until it reaches a dead end. The smartest ones can recognize email addresses in many forms, recognize dead links, avoid certain types of email addresses (such as *.edu and *.gov) and track many pages at once."

It was working fine until when i woke up this morning and looked at the computer and after going through the process of getting vista running this bar appeared that looks like its just ending the process of the recovery. The problem is that its been stuck at the same process for about 4 hours know. Its at 4/12 and it says eRecovery management please wait... There also is no D:/drive and before the recovery i had both c and d. All i have know is the c drive and the hidden drive for the recovery. I have no idea if it should really be taking this long to recover from the reboot or its just stuck. Please help if you can

I don't have any recovery CD's and from looking around for any guides I cannot find anything on how to recover an Acer Aspire L5100.

With no recovery CD and no Vista disc, how would I go about recovering the PC to the start?

I thought it would be built in but according to my disk management, see the screenshot, the part of the disk I thought seems to all be free.

it wont work saying noexecute=option.

The thing is he never made recovery disks when he first got it.
Is there a way to use pqservice hidden partition to recover back to

I've put the harddrive into a caddy and used ptedit32 to enable the pqservive partition.
Any ideas would be most appreciated?

So I downloaded 8.1 to a USB and booted from that. But I don't have the product key as it's tied to the bios? EHCI something to do with it?

People are saying the laptop is now useless? I can't believe that! There must be a way?

What is the PC make and model, and exactly what drivers were missing after you followed the steps for Clean Reinstall Factory OEM to a driver-complete OS? At the most after all Updates are done there should only be a handful still missing which our driver specialists here can find in no time.

Can someone please tell me where I can download the recovery disc, or order it in the united states. I found a website, but it is in the U.K. and I am in a real hurry to have this. I'm sorry if this is a repeat question, I am not computer savvy at all and was confused with some of the solutions to similar requests. Thank you.

Stupidly I installed windows 8 preview on my acer aspire z5610 and after a few days my computer just packed it in. I am trying to recover it back to win7 (if possible) but having no success. I try booting holding down the alt and F10 keys simultaneously but without success. When I boot up it automatically goes to "preparing automatic repair" followed by diagnosing PC and then attempting repairs. It then goes to a blue screen which says "automatic repair couldn't repair your PC" and instructs me to Press "Advanced Options to repair your PC or "shut down to turn off your PC. The log file states:D:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt (stuff knows what that mens. Anyway I follow all instructions and nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me PLEASE??????

Hello davegeorge1961 & welcome to TSF

The Windows 8 Release preview is intended for more tech savvy users & that's why you find it a little difficult to uninstall it.

You can see this guide to Revert back to Windows 7.

Hey there guys I have laptop Acer Aspire v Nitro and I did update to Windows from my Windows OS It seems that everything works just fine for me even drivers installed Acer Windows disc-to-di... Alt+F10 recovery 10 Aspire themselves no need actually to download anything from web maybe just cardreader I got only one question as I can't find it anywhere on the net I want to create recovery disk but what is the issue When I start my Acer Recovery Management I can only create recovery USB or other media but I don't have CD-ROM so only USB However in BIOS I can see Acer Aspire Windows 10 Alt+F10 recovery disc-to-di... that there is some option telling me that I can do Alt F to do some disc-to-disc recovery I have never owned an Acer before so I don't know how it works But when I press such combination in POST phase nothing changes computer simply continues to boot to Windows I'd like to use such way Acer Aspire Windows 10 Alt+F10 recovery disc-to-di... of creating recovery partition instead of making some recovery USB is I have SSD HDD combination so I have loads of free space on HDD P S Can't find answer on net everyone just says about creating recovery mediaThanks in advance

A:Acer Aspire Windows 10 Alt+F10 recovery disc-to-di...

ALT+F10 is called D2D, since it will re-install windows from a recovery partition on the same HDD.you can only create a recovery media on external devices connected via USB.

A:Need Acer Aspire 5100 System Recovery

What makes you think you have deleted that partiton ?
You must have tried quite hard to do that.

What was/is wrong with your computer ?
You can get recovery disks from the place that sold you the computer.

There are undelete utilities that will work in some situations.

See HERE for a free program.See HERE for paid for program that may be
easier to use than the free one

Hi. I had to replace the hard drive in my Acer Aspire ES1-512 laptop because of a failure. In doing so, I also lost the recovery partition. I was wondering if anyone had an ISO of the Acer Recovery DVDs, or a Disk Image of the recovery partition, that I could download, and write to a partition onto my SSD to restore my PC back to factory settings, because I can't afford the stupidly high prices that Acer charge for their recovery media, and I can't find a copy of Windows 8.1 With Bing anywhere that works with the key on my laptop. Thank you

Hi, I gave the laptop in question but had no hard disk so I had to post one myself. So of course I don't have the recovery partition and the backup disks. I have to install Vista using the reported serial under the laptop but I can't use the acer arcade InstantOn because I don't found anywhere, even on the acer site.
Could someone help me to find it or up this program (or the hidden pqservice partition) on a filehosting or other?
thank you very much

A:Acer Aspire 9800 / 9810 pqservice recovery

1) You wont find the pqservice partition on any filehosting site or anywhere else online.

2) Are you sure, you dont have pqservice? Normally, acer computers launch recovery from that hidden partition if you tap ALT+F10 at boot. However, sometimes that may not work if D2D recovery is disabled in the bios. You can try enabling it, then retry. There are other options also such as using partedit32 to repair a damaged mbr, see this thread.

Acer Aspire Hidden Partition Restoration - Wilders Security Forums

3) If your computer came with vista pre-installed, you can borrow a vista disk from a friend or download a clean copy off the web, then install the same edition that came preinstalled and activate using the key on the sticker at the back of the computer.

Alternatively, you can contact Acer and request for a set of recovery disks for your model, they'll probably ship it at a nominal cost.

I've been handed an Acer Aspire E360 desktop that should have Media Center on it but is missing the c:\windows\system32\hal.dll file. The recovery partion (<ALT> + F10) refuses to run also.

I ordered the 6 cd Recovery Disk set from Acer to try and roll this system back to factory.

When I boot from the System Disk it asks for a language and then to insert the:

(RCD[Backup Disc DVD1/CD2])

into the optical drive. After inserting and clicking on OK it runs for a few seconds and ejects the disk then shows the exact same prompt. It just loops on this. If I insert any other disk it complains about a missing file and I have to reboot.

How do I get this system to reload Media Center from Acer's disks?
