1) if I install just that ram it works fine

Preferred Solution: Compatible ram don't work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Compatible ram don't work

Sound as though the ram you bought is not compatible with the existing ram. Is the ram you bought the same specs as the old ram?

Please Help but of course I can t see if there s any type of error message Here is my computer and following this are the troubleshooting steps I have already taken Dell Dimension with Intel chipset -- AGP X slot - the card is X but should be backwards compatible with X P GHz GB MHz RAM currently using radeon se MB with no problems and i believe this is also X card in a X slot Windows XP Pro tech specs on dell website at support dell com support edocs systems dim specs htm I made sure I have the most recent bios updates Troubleshooting steps taken so far - Tried card in another older computer - works fine it s brand new - Tried other monitors just in case the cable was messed up - Tried changing BIOS settings with old card installed but the Dell BIOS sux and there s not much to change - Tried removing other hardware - NIC s IDE drives just about everything that s not essential tried to free up some power in case that s a problem - Tried reseating card a million times checked to see if the slot was bad - nothing i can see - Tried Google - Tried calling Dell support They made me repeat many of the steps above They then told me that the card wasn t supported by my mobo because it s too much memory this is based only on the observation that the mobo s diagnostic lights indicate no problems they said card was recognized but video not initialized So I argued with them because I ve never heard of compatibility problems due to the amount of video memory They then went and checked the documentation and admitted that the card should be compatible and said they d do some research and have someone call me back in a few hours Hmm maybe they ll call tomorrow but somehow i doubt it I guess that covers it This is really annoying because I m flat broke and I was really looking forward to getting a half-decent framerate I don t want to have to buy a new motherboard as well It probably won t fit in this stupid case anyway friggin Dell Any help would be very appreciated I can t think of what might cause a compatibility issue Thanks Jerome nbsp

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a graphics card for my 3 yr old computer. I'd like to get something that will work in Conjunction w/ my GPU and not simply cancel it out. I know they have them. Just don't know if my board will do this. Another thing I need to make sure it is compatible w/ my PCI. And finally when the card says ddr 3 or 5 is it compatible since my board only takes ddr 2 mem sticks? Here is the link for my board:

http://us.msi.com/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1165#menu

Please don't tell me to get a new board or system since mine is old. I know that and getting a new system right now isn't an option.

Thanks

A:compatible graphics card that will work w/ my gpu?

The board doesn't have Hybrid Crossfire, which would be needed for what you're willing to do. Not that you actually can run them in conjunction with Hybrid Crossfire either, you've got a bit of a wrong vision of it... When onboard works "alongst" with a discrete card, it just means the discrete card goes to a very low power sleep when no 3D apps are running and the onboard handles desktop usage.
(G)DDR3/5/whatever is not a compatibility issue, neither are PCI versions - PCI-E 16x cards, let them be 2.0, 2.1 or whatever will work on your board.
Power supply quality and true output capacity is. What's your current power supply model? Look at its side for some hints if you don't know straight off the top of your head. "*** Watts" is not enough, a real model is needed to determine any useful facts about the unit.

I tried almost everything, I downloaded and installed every version of XP64bit and Vista Beta Drivers (Realtek and Nvidia). I restarted and tried manually installing every single driver in the list. Still no luck. Audio Devices always tells me there is no sound and most importantly THERE IS no sound.
I tried to make this image as small as possible to fit on the screen.

EDIT: This is the message I get when I try to install any driver from the list above:
My Build is: 5384

Has anyone a solution to this? If so, please reply - I will be forever thankful.

Alright guys, I have just refreshed my pc because I was having numerous problems with it and it turned out to be a bad stick of RAM. However, now I am having software issues. Whenever I try to make a call on the desktop version of skype, the program crashes. Whenever I try to open HP support assistant, the program crashes. When i am using the metro app version of skype I get a weird artifacting type problem on any of the buttons. I have this same problem in internet explorer and on Netflix. Netflix will not play on Chrome. It will play on IE, but with the button artifacting problems. My computer will not pair via bluetooth with my phone. What would be your recommended course of action? I don't know where to begin. I have tried updating drivers and the like but it has not helped.

Thank you

Looks alright to me, although your motherboard can take faster RAM if you're interested: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129954
It's only £2 more as well

If you want to OC, get the 5000+ Black Edition. It has a smaller nm process than the 6400+ so it will go faster and run cooler. If you don't want to OC and/or don't have any experience in doing it before, go with a regular 6400+. The only difference in the Black Version is the unlocked multiplier which allows you to make it run faster.

Hi i need to upgrade some components on my PC, i was wondering if you could tell me if these components are compatible...

-MSI A85XA-G65 AMD A85X Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
-AMD A4-5300 3.40GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Dual Core Processor (AD5300OKHJBOX)

And also if they are compatible with my current graphics cards which are 2x nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768mb. I think i may need to upgrade my ram also as it is DDR2?

Thanks in advance for any help

A:Are these compatible?

Here is the support page for that mb;
http://us.msi.com/product/mb/FM2-A85XA-G65.html#/?div=Overview
As you can see the cpu you selected is listed as supported.

The board has 2 pci-e slots so yes you can run those cards.

Yes you need new ram.

FWIW, you are spending money on a new cpu, mb, and ram yet you want to use video cards that are going on 7yrs old. The 8800 was released in late 06 so it is getting very long in the tooth now. Seven years is more than a lifetime in the tech world.

A:Is this RAM compatible with my PC?

There is not enough information. We need to know which computer you have or at least which motherboard you have in the PC.

Many motherboards only support 1GB per memory slot. There is no way of knowing if your motherboard will support 2GB per slot, without first looking up the information.

hi everyone

my name is calmat and i have just joined your windows 8 forum and i would like to ask what anti-virus
can i use on my laptop because i tried to install MSE and it has told me that this antivirus programme
is not compatible with windows 8.
regards calmat

A:MSE not compatible

MSE stopped with Win 7 and has been replaced with built in Windows Defender on Win 8. 3rd party anti virus all have pros and cons and are a matter of choice whether to install them or not. Often they will react differently on different computers.

I personally use only WD and Malwarebytes Pro only. They have served me well and have had no problems. There are many posts in this forum showing the benefits of one or the other. As always, use common sense when visiting unknown sites and don't open unsolicited email attachments.

Hey Everyone

I am going to buy this latop from newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215663

(It is a link to the laptop on newegg. It is an Acer Aspire V3-551G-8454 Notebook.)

I want to put in 4GB more of RAM so it has a total of eight, however I'm afraid I will buy RAM that isn't compatible with it. I would like to purchase the additonal RAM from newegg.com as well.

Could someone please help it would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I have found a 4GB RAM stick that I believe is compatible however can anyone confirm this?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139355

Thanks!

A:Compatible RAM? Help please!

That laptop is listed as having 4 GB of RAM, but it doesn't indicate if it has a 1 - 4 GB module or 2 - 2 GB modules.

You also don't know what DDR3 speed the module(s) in that laptop is.

You should wait until the laptop arrives so you can confirm both of the above.

According to the CRUCIAL site for that laptop, the recommended 8 GB(4 GB X 2) matching modules is:

204-pin DDR3 PC3-12800(DDR3-1600), 1.35 volt, CL=11, unbuffered, non-ECC

The 4 GB module that you selected is a slower speed DDR3 PC3-8500(DDR3-1066).

Great build . I would mainly change the RAM. Get a 2x4 GB RAM kit instead since the Z77 chipset takes advantage of dual channel memory, which offers better performance. Also, I suggest getting a XFX 7950 instead since they offer a lifetime warranty. Finally, since you are getting the i3570K, witch is an unlocked CPU, I recommend getting a Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler if you want to overclock (what the K in 3570K means).

Just a final though: If you can wait for about 2-3 weeks, Intel will be releasing their new line of CPUs. I think you should wait till then to purchase your CPU + motherboard. Good luck .

Hi All

Quick qn: I presently have an external 7 port USB 1 device connected to one of my USB ports which works just fine. However, believe it or not I often now find myself unpluging certain devices etc and really want them all connected. I have a new mp3 player for my recent b'day and have no free slots. So, the qn is this - is it OK to purchase a USB 2 7 port hub and connect this to one of my USB ports to expand connectivity etc???

A:USB 2 compatible with USB 1 ..???

I think it too will need to be connected to a USB 2 card to run at the faster speed. As they are supposed to be backwards compatible, I would think that you can connect it, you just won't see the 2.0 advantage.

Hi All

I'm looking to get some form of network storage that I can use between my PC, Laptop and PS3. I have been looking at Lacie and WD:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/128649/rb/0
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/127255

I have heard poor reports about the WD drive though, apparently there's a supscription needed to access the full remote features!

Ideally I would like around 1tb, but 500gig would do for now as long as I can connect additional hard drives (daisy chain) to the NAS box for extra storage/backing up. FTP access would be useful too so I can access my files anywhere.

Have any of you done similar? Can you provide some advice on the best way of doing this?

A:NAS compatible with PS3?

SimpleTech NAS are very stable. WD not a fan of there devices. They just started to sell 1TB units here cheap for $320.

Do you have a router between the PC, laptop and PS3? Not hard to configure the device to the network.

Hi peeps hope you can shed some light on helping me decide what SSD to get I have a Gigabyte GA-X -USB MB which my i overclocked rig is built on I am in the middle of starting a new build but I am keeping this rig and thought about upgrading the last thing thats pretty much worth upgrading on it and thats an SSD At the mo it runs two TB samsung F s to old MB for SSD Compatible which I will keep for extra Compatible SSD for old MB storage but the MB in is old now and I dont think these Compatible SSD for old MB fancy SSD s will be compatible with it Here is the tec sheet for the MB Click me I think the xsata connections are sata so that limits my options so whats the best SSD I can get for this old board need one abut gig that plugs into the sata connections available OR Do I get one of these OCZ GB PCIe Thanks mucho for any advice Lee nbsp

A:Compatible SSD for old MB

It's SATA2 on that MOBO. New SSD's are SATA3, but they'll just run at the slower SATA2 speed.

So, get the cheapest most reliable one since any SSD r/w speeds are now faster than SATA2.

The SSD you linked is insanely fast, and also pretty darn expensive. It's up to you really - but it will run at max speed on your mobo.

A:Compatible or not?

I can tell you that if you want to get some quality gaming done, you will need a motherboard with a PCI-E slot. It's just impossible to get any decent FPS with your PCI slot limitation. I ran a FX5200 in my Dell 3000. It was a little better but I hate to tell you but you must at least have an agp slot and at this stage of the game you would be shopping for a PCI-E slot. I would also get a larger case to build in because the Dell 3000 is so small and you will need room for your machine to breathe and have a chance at cooling. Don't be bummed. Start shopping and do a lot of studying on each part that you might use. In the end you will be happy instead of frustrated.

A:Compatible Ram For My PC???

Yeah, www.crucial.com should have what you need. It uses PC133, not PCI (that is a slot on your motherboard). MSI specifically says this about your ram:
Supports six memory banks using three 168-pin unbuffered DIMM.
• Support a maximum memory size of 1.5GB.
• Support ECC(1-bit Error Code Correct) function.
• Support 3.3v SDRAM DIMM.

More specifically the below:

I would like to transfer Analog Video Camera Tapes to DVD including editing etc. Could someone please advise what extra memory, hard drive space, processor speed i would need? Thanks.

A:Compatible?

Can you upgrade to XP Home?
yes, it will most likely run but will seem pretty slow considering the cpu / amount of ram you have.

Can you install a DVD burner ?
Absolutely, should run just fine with what you have.

Can I put in an AV Capture Card?
Most likely yes, but considering the amount of cpu speed/ram you have, I don't think it will function very well. ( I am not up on video capturing etc..)
any converting of video to DVD require lots of cpu / memory ( the more, the merrier)

I can offer many suggestions of what you should get, but I have no idea what budget you're on.

2.5 Ghz or faster
1 gig memory
80 gig + ( the bigger the better )

good luck

Hi, I recently updgraded an old T61 with a Sandisk 128gb SSD (the "PLUS" model). It worked flawlessly for about a month when the error "2100: hdd0 initialization error" started to occur at every startup. As it is my mother's computer I was only able to check a few things from distance, it may be a connection issue or something simple.. But anyway, from what I read it is more likely an incompatibilty with the SSD, so I wanted to know if there are certain hard drives that are compatible for sure, preferably not as old as the laptop itself ( so other than the ones originaly shipped with it). I installed the middleton BIOS on the laptop. I really don't care about storage capacity, 7200rpm would be ideal though. Thanks for you help !Gab

Solved!
Go to Solution.

A:Compatible HDD with T61

Welcome to the forum.

This could be a compatibility issue but since the SSD did work flawlessly at first, it's more likely to be an early hardware failure. One way to confirm this would be to put the SSD in an external USB enclosure and then see if it works from that. If it works then there's a compatibility issue. If you still get error messages then the drive has failed and you should return it for a new one.

If it does turn out to be a compatabilty issue, go to Sandisk's website and see if they have firmware upgrades for this drive. Make sure you're using the most current firmware level.

Generally the SSDs that people on this forum recommend most often are made by Samsung, Crucial and Intel.

Most (not all) computers will let you mix and match RAM of different speeds - however the faster RAM will only run at the speed of the slower RAM - so if you get 400mhz and have 333mhz also in the computer, it will all run at 333mhz.

If you look at my system specs, I have a Dell Inspiron M731R and I have a wuestion to ask.
I'm thinking of getting a SSD that is 500GB or bigger. I have one but I don't know if it will work. Here is the link:
Crucial MX100 512GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" Internal SSD upgrades for Inspiron M731R Laptop/Notebook, CT5400945 from Crucial.com
Is it compatible?

A:Which SSD is compatible?

Yes, it's compatible. You should be able to install virtually ANY currently manufactured 2.5" ssd or hdd in that laptop.

The only possible problem would arise if the drive you chose was an older 9.5mm thick drive and the laptop was designed for a 7mm thick drive. In this case though, the drive is 7mm thick and comes with an adapter for 9.5mm so it will work in either. Most drives made today are 7mm thick so they will fit modern as well as older laptops.

I just got 2 2gb sticks of Balistix Crucial. Can I still fill my last two dimm slots with my old RAM? 2 1gb sticks of OCZ. They are both 800mhz pc6400. The crucial RAM has CL-4-4-4-12. The ocz RAM is 4-5-5. My mobo guide says to use the RAM with the same CAS Latenc. Which number is the CAS Latency? My bios says its the first number, the 4. So far no problems with this setup but ive only had it for an hour or two.

A:Compatible RAM?

You need to check the maximum amount of RAM supported by your motherboard.

And yes, the first number in the timings is the CAS latency.

I need to burn a data CD in XP so that it will preserve long filenames and extensions when accessed on a Mac. I currently have Roxio Easy CD Creater software installed on my PC, but the last CD I burned did not preserve the long filenames. Any suggestion on how to resolve this? Can this be achieved using drag-and-drop technique instead of using Roxio?

Can anyone offer any suggestion on freeware/shareware that will preserve long filenames when burning a CD? Don't forget that I will be creating the CD in WinXP, but the CD must be readable in both XP and Mac.

Thanks

I just bought a new PC that unfortunately does not have enough RAM (512MB instead of 1GB) to run the OS (Vista basic) it came with effectively.

Here are the specs for the machine.

This is the memory it came with: 512MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM memory 2 DIMM (240-pin, DDR2)
Is there any way of telling if this RAM is compatible?

Memory Size 512MB

Memory Speed 533MHz PC4200

Memory Type DDR2

Memory CAS Latency 4

Pins 240

Thanks for the help,

So i have a noob question, but im getting quite confused looking at PSU's for my Asus P5Q PRO motherboard.

The manual says it needs a 24 pin main connector and an 8 pin 12v cpu connector.

The pictures on newegg for the PSU's usually just show a picture of the main connector and the cpu power but it just shows a 4 pin, but under "features" it will say either say "1 x 12V(4/8Pin)" or "1 x 12V(P4)" and "1 x 12V(8Pin)" below it.

Do all ATX12V / EPS12V PSUs come with an 8 pin 12v connector or what?

Also when it tells how many rails it has whether it be single or 3 or whatever, what does that mean. I'd like to make sure i get a PSU thats compatable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:RAM compatible with CPU?

Wouldn't it be helpful to know the motherboard, and the operating system ? That information is what is usually needed first... then the memory answer comes fairly quickly.
I would not want to try to match the existing memory module, but rather to buy new modules all of the same brand and specs... mixing memory modules too often slows things down a bit.

I've been looking into building a new rig for some time now. I recently came across an old Antec 300 case lying about abandoned where I work so that will be rescued But I have been looking at the following mobo

Asus M4A87TD Evo AMD 870
and
OCZ Reaper 4GB DDR3 PC3-14400C7 1800MHz Dual Channel

Apparently the motherboard supports
4x DDR3 DIMM 2000(OC) / 1333 / 1066 MHz (Max. 16GB) / Dual Channel
There's no 1800MHz stated, does this mean the RAM won't work (or will work but limited usage)
I'm a noob when it comes to choosing hardware for a rig

A:Compatible RAM?

Motherboard/RAM combinations can be so cranky and finicky that I'd stick to the letter of the ASUS requirements for RAM. I'd avoid 1800. Why take the chance?

A:USB 3.0 compatible with USB 2.0

Hi there,

If your External hard drive is a USB 2.0 device, you will not see an increase in performance by plugging it into a USB 3.0 socket on your computer. There will not be an advantage to you using a usb 3.0 cable in your USB 2.0 device either. I would use your original cable that came with the external hard drive.
Unfortunately you will be stuck on usb 2.0 speeds as far as I am aware.

hey guys, on my current desktop pc I have 4gb of ram but ive noticed it beginning to slow down (the computer is now 4 years old and has not be altered since I custom built it).

the current ram i have is Corsair CMP4GX3M2A1600C8 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 and i was thinking about adding Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY8GX3M2A1600C9R 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 which would total the ram to 12gb

i was wondering if it was possible to mix these rams and have them both in the computer at once making full use of the 4 ram slots i have available on my motherboard or if i would replace the current 4gb with the new 8gb.

thanks guys
