I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All,

I am having a issue with my new router (Tenda W150D Router), its not giving me access for uploading any files through wi fi on my iphone 5s using app (Wireless Drive), even I tried the same with vlc upload feature in iphone still it doesnt work......

I think the issue is with the firewall in the router which I cannot access normally from the router setup...

guys pls help.. any comments are welcome

A:Tenda W150D Router Issue

Hmm; accessing a website is an outbound action thru the firewall on port 80.
A site with file uploading uses the same port 80 as normally used for surfing the web.

We need more data to analyze the problem
?What URL are you accessing for the upload?

from this "iphone 5s using app (Wireless Drive)", I assume the data moves this way:
ISP==router -- wifi to your 5S: using an app called Wireless Drive?can you confirm this please?

?are you sure you're accessing the router and NOT attempting upload via the cellular connection?

my internet connection uses PPPoE to connect to the internet. i'm trying to set up the router for this configuration but it does not work. if there is anything else i need to post up pls tell me...help!!

A:Configuration problem for belkin adsl2+ modem with wireless router

the MODEM uses PPPoE, the router should not. the ADSL modem will hold the connection
regardless of anything being active on your router or systems, so imo, the router
should not be configured for PPPoE.

So I tried making my Tenda router work under DHCP today and I couldn't get it to do so.

I decided to get the firmware from the official site, and I upgraded it.

Since then, I can't even see the router in my wireless connections or acces the configuration page.

I tried uplugging it, resetnig it, etc. Nothing works.

Any help you fellas can give me?

Thank you!

A:Tenda W316 router not working

Well; usually; unplugging it to reset it should reset it and enable you to access the configuration page. If it doesnt; it sounds like there might be some sort of internal hardware issue with the router. Have you also tried resetting the modem as well to make sure both have a "clean" connection? If not i would try resetting the modem if your modem is separate from your router. Give this a shot and see what happens.

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Click to expand...

this is being set into bridge mode - by changing to a modem

then connect the modem to the WAN on the router and you should be good to go

Do you have a wireless laptop that you can you can put next to the wii - would be useful to see the quality of the wireless signal and how many other wireless are there which may cause interference

put xirrus onto the laptop and put the laptop next to the wii and post a xirrus screen shot
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-inspectorguide-1-2-1-RevB-6.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)

To post a screen shot of the active window.
1) hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
OR
2) if you are using Vista/Windows 7 you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool

To upload the screen shot to the forum, open the full reply window ("Go Advanced" button) and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are available here http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_Posting_a_Screenshot

Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

If you are using the Mac OS then use http://www.istumbler.net/

if you want to optimise base station position and signal strength / dead spots use
http://www.chimoosoft.com/products/apgrapher/ which has a graph function to monitor signal

Hi guys I'm new here so please be nice

OK! so before i changed to TPG ADSL2+ i used to be on optus cable using a Netgear Wireless N router. then when i got TPG, i need a router but found out i had to get a combo modem/router. so i got an Open Networks 824RLW which has wireless G.

This unfortunately in my double brick double story house isn't good enough for some pc's. So i know there is a way to do it but i dont know what it is... I'd like to disable the wireless (G) of the Open Networks and keep the modem of it working (and possibly the ethernet ports) and connect my Netgear Wireless N router and use it for wireless (N) and wired networking.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks, Assassin.

A:Wireless N Router + ADSL2 Modem/Router

Welcome to Seven Forums!

You can certainly do what you describe. It will come down to reconfiguring the two routers.

First, reconfigure the ADSL router (824RLW) to turn off the wireless. I looked at the manual and you can disable the WLAN.

Next, on the old "N" router, disable the DHCP server. This will prevent it from handing out addresses. Also give the NetGear router's LAN port a static IP address on the same subnet as the 824RLW. make it's outside the DHCP range though.

This last piece is important. Connect a cable from one of the four LAN ports on the 824RLW to one of the LAN ports on the old "N" router. NOT the WAN port! The routers have two sides, WAN (Internet) and LAN (Inside). The radio and the switch ports are on the same side (LAN). That's the side you want.

By doing this you bypass the Netgear's router function completely.

A:Configuring a adsl2 router

By looking at the set up guide for the dpq2160 I can see that it's not just a modem, it's actually a modem/router and for some reason this isn't explained very well at all in the products set up page. It does show the Modem's Ethernet port plugging directly into a switch which means it has DHCP capability and is actually a modem/router.
http://www.cisco.com/web/consumer/su...028103-new.pdf

Since it's DHCP capable and you are trying to use another router with this modem it's required that you go into the set up page for the Binatone and turn off DHCP, because at this point you are really only using the Binatone as a switch. You also don't want to use the WAN port on the Binatone, plug the dpq modem into the LAN port on the Binatone.

You should not need to set up any type of static IP's as the DHCP from the modem/router will give the Binatone it's own IP after you turn off DHCP.

If you need to set up the Binatone as a access point you can access it through it's new IP which will be assigned from the modem/router.

I recently started working from home andhad DSL set up because we had to have DSL or cable for my work. My internet company set up the comtrendADSL2+Router. A:Comtrend ADSL2+Router can it be set up to be used as wireless?

That does not seem to be wireless. You'll have to add a wireless access point or wireless router. If you get the latter it can be daisy-chained to the primary router, or you can (probably) bridge the modem/router to act as modem only, or connect and configure the wireless router as just an ethernet switch and wireless access point.

I saw some ADSL modems which also ran your network (access point/router etc) which worked while your computer is off, but I can't find them now.

The advantage is power-saving on the main PC while the others in the network can access the broadband anytime they want.

Does anyone know of any good hardware available in the UK?

A:Looking for ADSL2 modem/access point/router which works while PC is off

All those modems "work" even without a connected PC..

If you want to share an internet connection to several computers, then you need a router. As I gather, at the moment it is one of your PCs that is acting as a router.

If your current modem has an ethernet port, then it will work with any router that has an ethernet WAN option. If you currently have a modem with only USB, then you have to replace it.

Your circuit the router is plugged into has a problem, the router's power supply is faulty, or the router itself is faulty.

Let me start with I m not extremely great with computers but I can understand more or less without delving into technicalities I m an expat in Egypt and recently got internet at a new apartment In TE Networking Data Cisco ADSL2+router Issues. and E3 Linksys my old apartment I was with the same ISP TE data and everything was working fine I was using a Thomson Speedtouch as a modem and a router since it was dual usage Then I got a Cisco router linksys E from USA when my brother came over to visit He set up that router and we hooked it up with the Speedtouch The Speedtouch was now being used as only a modem and I disabled the name broadcasting as well The Speedtouch used to overheat before when it was being used for both router Networking Issues. TE Data ADSL2+router and Cisco Linksys E3 Now in this new apartment I am using the same linksys E Cisco router except I have a new modem The Speedtouch isn t being used and in it s place my ISP TE Data gave us a mbps ADSL router That is literally what it s called It s made by TE Data as well When setting up this router I took note that there aren t many setting options Now at this point I decided to continue with the TE Data ADSL router instead of the Speedtouch I disabled the WLAN on the TE Data ADSL router since I only need it to work as a modem I hooked up the Cisco and left the settings as it was and only changed the ISP info The internet works Except with a few issues The speeds would dip and sometimes cease to work for seconds We signed up for a plan mbps and converted to kBps is kBps if I m not mistaken I only receive about kBps the most constant I ve seen Sometimes it d reach kBps None of these speeds stay constant Sometimes it ll dip low to kBps and lower and fluctuate At first I thought this was because the internet was new and the ISP was still working on whatever it is they do My father and sister use their phones and they complained that sometimes while they d be connected to the internet they wouldn t have access on their phones I have a MAC address filter on the Cisco router which my brother set up and I added everyone s MAC address to the router so I know it isn t that Plus at times they don t have any problems with the internet on their phone My father threw out a theory which I skeptical about but seems to have some kind of weight to it When there are devices connected any other device doesn t receive net connection While I checked and rechecked the settings on both the router and the modem I can t find anything that could be causing the problem but I m not a networking technician But then while checking and rechecking I found another problem The IP address to both the TE Data ADSL router and Cisco linksys E are both the same I remember with the Speedtouch the accessing IP was Now I don t want to play around with the settings and end up screwing something up so I ve come to a place where I could get expert advice or suggestions When I do type into the browser sometimes the TE Data ADSL router login would show up other times the linksysE would And sometimes while I m screwing with settings in one thing the page would reload and I d be taken to the other s login page I read that both having the same IP isn t a good thing and to disable the DHCP option on one of the devices I know DHCP is enabled on my Cisco Linksys E But on the TE Data ADSL router I cannot find any option for DHCP configuration If there is any other information I could provide I ll be happy to Honestly I m more of a coder then a technician so I have no idea what specifications I should provide Thanks in advance nbsp

1) The problem is that i cannot reset the receptor always because other people are also connected with the receptor and only i am facing this problem.

2) Before using this receptor, i always connected to the main router directly but other people had some problems due to weak signals. Now only me has the problem.

I have windows Vista. Network drivers are updated. I have already scanned for Virus.

Resetting the modem
Resetting the router
Doing a hard reset on the router (with the actual reset button)
Doing all of the above in quick succession

Does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to TSG.

Is there more than one prot on the router?
Have you powered down and rebooted the whole network properly?

Can you go to Start>Run > Command and ping a www url?

A:Connection problem with router

looks like you have a connection to the router

and so looks like lts actually connected

whats the status of all the lights on the router also whats the status on the modem

if you connect a cable directly to the modem does it work (whats the make and model of the modem)

do a full powercycle

------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to power cycle

“power cycle” process to reboot or reset the modem/router

Switch off all the devices modem, router and computers also unplug their power cables.
Wait at least 1 to 5 minutes. We have found in some instances you need to wait at least 15 minutes
Plug the power cords back in, but don’t switch them on.
First turn on the modem and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Next switch on the router (if a separate device) and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Now turn on your computer, You should now be able to access the Internet.

I recently installed a new router after moving rented accomodation, and previously i had been using the landlords belkin router. I connected to both via an ethernet cable.

The problem with the new router is Day of Defeat Source, I can see the list of servers, connect to one no problems and get between a second and 2 minutes of play time before the game freezes and the little red message pops up in the top right: 'warning: connection problem'

This never used to happen with the old router, and the new router can handle battlefield 2 fine, so have no idea what the problem is.

Anybody who can help out? My router is a thomson st780

I have roadrunner cable connection. One computer is hardwired through netgear wireless router & is running windows 98. The other computer is wireless & running windows xp. I have been set up this way for three years with absolutely no problems at all. One day while I was on the internet, I lost connection. If I bypass the router & connect direct to the cable modem, I can get on the internet. If I reconnect back through the router, I can not get on the internet from either computer. I have tried a new router & have the same problem. I have tried many other things & still can not find the problem. If anyone out there is up on wireless, I sure could use a little help.

It appears that your IP address has been blocked at their server. I ran a traceroute and the next hop after "74.243.185.169" is the server itself.I'd recommend you contact sockshare directly and see what they say. Be sure to include the IP address you're accessing the site from in your email to them. And just for comparison, here is a traceroute from me (Memphis, TN) to them:

A:Problem with connection to wireless router

Hi there and Welcome to SF,

Please try the following suggestions, there's no need to move on to the next task if it works:

Disable any Firewall or Security Software for now.

Remove all wireless network stored in your computer, then re-add your own SSID. If the network is secured, make sure to type in the correct network key.
Wireless Network - Remove

Make sure that DHCP is enabled both in your wired and wireless settings and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' is also enabled.
Setting Up a DHCP Ethernet Connection in Windows Vista/7 - Virginia Tech Knowledge Base [answers.vt.edu]

Verify that you're not using any Proxy Servers, remove if found.

If above suggestions didn't work at all, please provide us an output of your computer's ipconfig /all:

I have just brought a D-Link DSL264-B and I have now fully configured it on the downstairs desktop PC. It is now working perfectly fine downstairs but when I tried connecting upstairs in my room it would connect to the internet. I do have two telephone socket upstairs one in the loft (my room) and one in the spare room.

I think there might be an issue with the telephone socket (in my bedroom) but I would like to hear any other suggestions to what it might be and how to resolve the issue if there is one with the telephone socket in my bed room.

I have not yet successfully connected upstairs yet in the spare room but my aim is to get it working in my room as I want to play my PS3 (wired) connected to router.

There is nothing to configure in a switch. Especially if it is not a managed one. Just plug your stuff in there and as long as you use the right kind of cables it will work.

Hi, hopefully someone can help me as I am going mad...

Desktop wireless connection works, but slow. The wired connection will not work. I get internet if I plug the LAN cable into my laptop, but if I plug it into the desktop, just "you are not connected to a network"
I tried several things elsewhere on the forum

* Uninstalling, reinstalling network adapter driver
* "netsh winsock reset", "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt", "ipconfig /flushdns"
* Changing LAN cable
* Connecting to another PC
* Changing "Speed and duplex" settings
* Turning off firewall
* Reseting and restarting router
if I do ipconfig/release I get "This operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"
The Tunnel adapter says media disconnected. Is this the problem?

If so, how can I fix it?
Thanks anyone who can help me

A:LAN connection problem - wont connect to Router

Your System Specs really says nothing useful about the computer. Some Desktop computers were available with both a Network Adapter built-in and with either an Add-in Network Adapter card or built-in. I've seen where turning off the computer and pulling the power cord out of the back for a couple of minutes help with several things on the motherboard, might try that. In a Command Prompt window might try ping 192.168.x.x [where x = the IP for your Router] to see if you get a response, tests whether the adapter and cable work. Not all Routers use the same base IP numbers and it is not shown as to what your make and model is.

Hi all

I just bought and installed a Linksys Wireless Broadband router. It's directly hooked up to a desktop w/ Windows XP and SBC Yahoo DSL. My laptop is the only other PC currently communicating w/ the router. Everything seems to install fine, and my laptop recognizes the network instantly, but after about 1 day the internet connection is lost on the desktop. If I unplug the network cable from the router and plug it back into it's original location on the desktop the internet comes back instantly and I have to reinstall the router again for my laptop to pick up the network. This has happened multiple times, each time consistently after about 1 day. Is there something simple I can do to fix this that maybe I missed when installing the router?

I have a Verizon router and I purchased a NetGear N900 wireless dual band usb adapter for my son's computer. I was going to test the N900. It is for college.

The N900 will not connect. I do have three other laptops that do connect and work ok. The N900 has WPS but the Verizon router does not.

So I have to use the SSID, 'wep' option, and the wep key. The N900 tries to connect and stops trying after about 20 seconds or so. The N900 varies from 4 to 5 green bars. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

N900 installation was followed and went smoothly and the new software version was used. We are using Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit on my son's computer.

I also purchased the Western Digital My Net N750 router for college. I have no way to test everything at home. It does have WPS so at the college I hope everything works.

My Wireless desktop is connected with a D-Link Wireless USB Adapter that is compatible with my router, with Windows XP PRO (with latest SP).

What's the make and model of the wireless adapter ?
Have you updated the adapter driver from the Gateway site ?
I would not recommend running with an open Network.
What I might also try is set up wep as your security protocol and see if that makes a difference.

A:Connection problem with my Linksys BEFSR41 Router and DSL...

I was having a very similar problem when I tried to setup my network. I figured out I just needed to place my username and password in the router setup itself. Once this was done all works like a charm.

I also had a problem resetting the router, and I finally got it to work when I held the reset button in for 3 times as long as it said to.

I hope this helps, at least a bit.

Hi, I've got another question

I have a laptop with an Intel 3945 A/B/G wireless card.
I have a Linksys WRT54G Router.

At times in the past, I have had no problem using the internet wirelessly
However, today I went to connect, it connects and all, but I can't surf or do anything internet related.

BUT: I seem to be able to connect to the router config page just fine...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I need the web urgently.

Hi,
I have a Siemens Gigaset SE587 WLAN dsl.
I'm trying to connect my Wii to the internet.
I've checked 'disable' for auto channel settings
and changed the wireless channel to '1'.

Now I think I may have to add the Wii's MAC address

Do I add this in the 'Local Network' Setup tab?

If so, it's asking for:
Operation IP Address - [What would I input here?]
Mac Address
Lease Time(Sec) - [What would I input here????]

Or, maybe I'm wrong with that possible solution and there's something else I could do to try and connect my Wii??

Thankyou in advance,
Eoin.

A:Wii internet connection problem through wireless router

log into the router and remove the secruity and any mac filtering and then see if the Wii will connect - then once you know its all working you add those back on if you want them

you will need to add the MAC address into the router for all devices that connect

the router would normally be set to DHCP - so the IP Address is supplied to devices from the router - but if you have this disabled in the router then you need to add a fixed IP on the Wii setup page

Mac Address - would be entered in the router
Lease time is usually set in the router for all DHCP connections

Hi all.

I work as a software developer and have had a lot of experience with wireless networking, but this problem has me stumped...

I have an old wireless router (unsecured at the moment) that I have connected to a modem, provided by Virgin media. When I use a cable to directly connect to the router, all seems fine, but when I attempt to connect wirelessly I am almost immediately presented with "Windows was unable to connect to [router name]".

Other people in my house (on both XP and Vista) can connect to the router without any problems, implying that it is a setting within Windows 7. HOWEVER, I am able to connect to another (unsecured) wireless router. I guess this can only mean that there is a setting on the router that is preventing me from connecting...any ideas?

Thanks.

Nick

I have an edimax br-6240wg wireless router. It started giving me real trouble - the computer will tell me a network cable is unplugged, tries to get a new ip address, and then almost immediately says a cable is unplugged, ad infinitum.
Meanwhile, the wireless seems to work since other devices can connect to it, unless it'd during the time that my computer is being used and giving me all the cable unplugged problems.
So to summarize: on my computer it won't work, but the wireless works for others, unless my computer is in use.
I thought it may be the ethernet card that's the problem, but when I connect to the internet via a regular dsl modem, the internet works fine. So it doesn't seem to be the computer.
I'm wondering if it's not a virus.
Can you help?

You should compare the network configuration of your computer with the others. See if they are getting their IP and DNS addresses automatically. You may have to register the MAC address of your wireless adapter on the router too.

I keep losing my internet connection like every 5-10 minutes, usually being disconnected for only a few seconds. I lose my connection while surfing, in IM and playing games online, which is really frustrating. I think my router is the problem but I'm not sure. I have a Belkin G Plus MIMO Wireless Router and to check it, today I unplugged my router and plugged in my LAN cable directly into my laptop. I didn't lose my connection the entire hour plus I was online while my laptop was plugged directly to my LAN. So, it's not a problem with my ISP. and I need a wireless router for my 2 desktops and laptop. What should I do, get rid of my router and buy a better one or is there a way I can configure my router to fix my bad connection?

A:Router DELL Truemobile 1184 connection problem

Try the PPPoE setup on the router

xDSL with PPPoE 1.

Connect the Ethernet port on the DSL modem to the Internet port on the router via an Ethernet cable.
2.

Connect any one of the four LAN port on the router to the Ethernet port on your computer via another Ethernet cable. (Connect to the router from your PC with a wireless network adapter.)
3.

Power on the router.
4.

Open your web browser and go to http://my.router, (or the default address http://192.168.2.1.)
5.

Click the Basic Settings tab on the top navigation bar.
6.

Click the CABLE/xDSL ISP Settings tab on the left navigation bar.
7.

Check the Your ISP requires you to input username/password (PPPoE Settings) box.
8.

Enter the user name provided to you by your ISP in the User Name box.
9.

Enter your password in the Password and Retype Password boxes.
10.

If your ISP requires you to provide a MAC address, check the Your ISP requires you to input WAN Ethernet Mac box.
11.

Enter the address in the appropriate box.
12.

Click the Next button.
13.

Click the Save & Restart button.
14.

Note the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
15.

While the Wireless Broadband Router resets, the Power light on the front of the unit blinks.
16.

When your web browser returns to the main page of the Wireless Broadband, the device has successfully restarted with the new settings.

Hey,

The company that I work for uses a Mac AirPort for their router. I use a PC with Windows 7 for most of my work, although I occasionally use a Mac Laptop that the workplace provides.

My PC is constantly losing its connection to the network. I will be using the Internet when suddenly everything stops loading. If I disconnect and reconnect to the Internet, it works fine again, although it will stop being a "smooth" connection within a few minutes.

However, the Macbook is always connected when I am having these problems. I can't use the Macbook all of the time because it is used by many employees.

My question is: what is causing this problem? And will I be able to fix it?

A:Problem With Consistent Internet Connection - Windows 7 vs. Mac Router

any other windows machines using the router

I would check the dns
do the following when its working and then repeat all the tests when it fails

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Ping Tests

Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
post back results
rightclick in the box
select all

then reply here and

these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router the next two

A:Connection problem NETGEAR ROUTER and Linksys PCI card

First determine if the problem PC is really communicating with the router.

To open a Command Window: Start - Run – cmd (command in 98SE) - OK

To determine a computer's IP address and router's IP address: open a Command Window and type
ipconfig /all

The "Gateway" is the router's IP address.

Now for some troubleshooting:

1. On the PC open a Command window and type
ping IProuter (where IProuter is the IP address of the router)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

If you got all packets lost, your PC and router are not communicating. Very likely an encryption problem. Try w/o encryption.

2. If you got replies, try
ping 216.109.112.135

3. If you got replies, you have internet access, and then try\
ping www.yahoo.com

If you get replies again, DNS is working, and you probably have a Winsock problem.

I just upgraded my wireless router from "G" to "N".

I have two desk tops, two laps tops, a Terastation and a Roku sharing it.

I had no problem getting all the various hardware to connect EXCEPT for one problem.

One of the laptops will not connect to the Terastation, All the other computers connect to it (the two desktops are Ethernet wired to it)

When I try to connect to the Terastaion using the laptop (an HP Pavilion using Windows 7) I get the following message.

" file and print sharing resource is online but isn't responding to connection attempts"

I have tried just about everything I can think if to get the laptop to see the files on the Terastaion (it did so just fine before I change the router) but nothing is working.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Some routers have an option to isolate the Cable connections from the wireless connections , have a look at the router configuration pages and see if there is that option to isolate the cable from wireless

A:Linksys WRT54G and Netgear FVS124G Router connection problem

From what I am seeing, you need to set the allowed ports and protocols
in the firewall setup in order to get traffic through the WAN.
The lynksys doesn't have this extensive protection.
Pobably just has virtual server and dmz.
You may want to check the manual on setting up WAN traffic
through the firewall.

recently joined Virgin Media with the complete package. The router they gave me is a Netgear VMDG480 Router with wireless connection. However, one of the laptops will not connect to the Internet. It fails to pick up the DNS even though the laptop can see the router and makes a connection. However, on making a connection it does not pick up a DNS.

This is odd because when connected wired it works a treat.

Here is the result from running ipconfig on the wireless adapter:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix: [Blank]
Nothing for DCHP
IPv4 Address: 192.168.0.6
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Nothing for DCHP Server
Nothing for DNS Servers

This particular laptop runs Vista, and the other laptop that does work wirelessly uses XP Professional.

Does anyone have the answer to this problem?

Thanks

Hi Guy,

Just throwing this one out there.

I am having trouble with my new Tenda 54M Wireless PCI Adapter Model: W54P card it installs the driver right but when i go to enable it, it doesn't work.

It also calls it a Ralink RT61 Turbo Wireless LAN Card if that helps solves the problem.

The Driver is
Driver provider: Ralink Technology Corp.
Driver Date: 2/06/2009
Driver Version: 3.0.1.0

If you need anymore info please post and i will reply asap

thank you all From Gamer1238

A:Tenda 54M Wireless PCI Adapter Model: W54P

One thing that can help with that is finding the Hardware ID. There are two ways about it. One is to go to Start, Right click on Computer, select Manage. Go to Device Manager, expand Network adapter, and double click on the device. Go to the Details tab and select Hardware Ids from the drop down menu. For instance, my Hardware Id is VEN_1814&DEV_0301 and if you google it you find that its a Ralink RT2561/RT61 chipset. I was able to install this device by going to Ralink's website and downloading thePCI/mPCI/CB (RT256x/RT266x). I installed the executable as driver only. I then did a manual install, selected Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, selected Network adapter, then selected Ralink Corp, and finally selected the RT61 v2. This worked for my particular device but it can be different for yours. This is only an example as something you can try.

A:Siemens 6520/Airport Express/Tenda Gigabit Switch

If the Airport Express is just a wireless access point I don't understand why there are the problems you report.

Is the Airport Express a router? If so, anything connected to its LAN will be inaccessible from your "main" LAN, and anything on the "main" LAN will be only partially accessible from behind the second router. You will probably prefer to use it as follows ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers" is a computer.] Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

For reference, here's a link to a Typical example config using a Netgear router

hey,

Today i have a new problem with my adsl. The wireless was working at full 'advertised' speed last night, then today i noticed the wireless connection symbol in the task bar had changed from 54mbs to only 2 mbs, and a speedtest showed that it was a tenth of the speed it used to be.

Because i just installed my modem yesterday, i thought maybe this was just the isp limiting my connection until i register the modem or something. However, when i connect an ethernet cable between the modem and my computer, the connection works at full advertised speed. Does this rule out the possibility that my isp is limiting my signal, and suggest that the problem is with my wireless settings? Thanks for any help. The modem is a speedtouch 780.

Any reason why the signal is low?

Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows XP with a wireless connection to a broadband router.

Several weeks ago my laptop started dropping the internet connection randomly (I'm alos unabel to access email when this happens).

My wireless network icon in my toolbar shows the connection as 'Excellent' but for some reason both Internet and Email is not available. The only way to fix the problem has been to restart my laptop which is very frustrating.

I've noticed that this also happens randomly when I'm at home (using different wireless broadband modem) so I think the issue is my laptop not the 2 x routers/modems.

I'm running NOD32 for security as well (but have been for 4 years now with no problems till now).

Please help.

A:Wireless router connection to ADSL router

You might need to check the settings of the ADSL modem, perhaps it has a Mac filtering option enabled which prevents another computer from connecting to it without first adding the Mac address in a list of authorized devices on the modem.

Also in the WiFi router's web interface, can you see the status of the Ethernet port ?

Q: Adsl2+

Probably a dumb question but: If I switch to a ISP that offers ADSL2+ will my devices (Roku's,Older Tivo's, Gaming Consoles, and older pc's) that currently connect via regular DSL be compatiable with ADSL2+ as long as I have a modem and router that support ADSL2+?

If you switch to ADSL2+ will your devices still connect to your network?

I'm suppose to have ADSL2 but have recently noticed downloading seems to be slower than before. So I did a few tests online and all came back different:

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/
1.69megabits per second / 206.38kilobytes per second

http://www.zdnet.com.au/broadband/speedtest.htm
8009kb/s

http://www.internetfrog.com/mypc/speedtest/
Download speed is 2.97Mbps, upload speed is 212kbps

Two questions:

So which result is right, and
At what speed is it considered ADSL2?

A:Do I have ADSL2?

Speed you are checkeing for never comes to stable because these are not accurate process of speed measurement. So do not eel that ur ADSL2 modem it ot good.

How do you know if you are on ADSL2 or ADSL2+ ? I called Sky today and they said they have put me on it but the speeds tell me different, I was getting 9Mbps downstream and 1111 upstream.
Now I am getting Downstream Connection 9465 and I have lost out in the upstream 798.
which is giving me speeds of 8.12Mbps download and 0.68Mbps upload I used to get 1.16Mbps upload download isn't much better than before. So I am guessing I am on ADSL MAX am I correct? on the router webpage it just says

ADSL Firmware VersionA2pD035o.d24

A:How do you know if you are on ADSL2 or ADSL2+ ?

From what I think I know (which on any given day is very questionable ), ADSL is a fixed line broadband technology. ADSL offers high speed access over the same existing copper network in parallel with existing telephone lines.

ADSL2 can offer a maximum download speed of 12 Mbps. ADSL2+ can offer a maximum download speed of 24 Mbps. But this in no way guarantees you will get those speeds. Even though you might have signed up for 24 Mbps ADSL2+, it's very unlikely you will actually get that speed.

Many ISPs use what's called a contention ratio. The first 5,000 or 20,000 customers (or however many the ISP has established) to log in to ADSL2+ will be connected and share at 24 Mbps. The next 5,000 or 20,000 customers may be throttled at 18Mbps. The next group of customers at 12Mbps and so on until the last people to log in may only get 1.5 - 3 Mbps.

Some other factors affecting speed include:

(1) Your physical distance from your closest ISP exchange server. According to a friend who is an installer for AT&T installing their U-verse internet service, U-verse is ADSL2+ because it offers speeds up to 24 Mbps. But a customer who gets the Max Turbo 24 Mbps package, and lives 10 miles from the nearest exchange server, may never get more than 18 Mbps. Physical distance can be that limiting.

(2) The condition of your copper wiring

(3) Electrical interference on your copper wiring. It could be external or internal within your house.

(4) Destination server?s bandwidth and performance. (Example: When you access sevenforums.com, the server where Seven Forums is hosted and the connection bandwidth, and bandwidth usage and server performance will also affect your speed)

I'm not familiar with Sky so all of the above is pretty much speculation on my part. If they say you're supposed to be getting 24 Mbps then I think you're most likely on ADSL2+ service. I have the AT&T U-verse 12 Mbps download and 1.5 Mbps advertised service. On any given day I get about half that. AT&T has a bold disclaimer for all their internet packages: Speed claim(s) represent maximum downstream and/or upstream speed capabilities which may vary and are not guaranteed.

A:Need an ADSL2 Modem

First.. Did your ISP just upgrade their network or do they actually give you ADSL2 speed? Usually customers get connection speeds way less than the network's capabilities.

Second.. As I have said before, a plain 100Mbit ethernet is several times faster than any DSL connection. No matter what you do with your LAN, your internet speeds will not improve.

Yes, all switches and routers have RAM in them.
