Unable to open My Computer or other explorer windows

Q: Unable to open My Computer or other explorer windows

Creating title in this forum per request of moderator...

I ran a scan in safe mode after running in normal mode and it still said it found it...

I'm attempting to run malwarebytes as I've had success with that before...

Preferred Solution: Unable to open My Computer or other explorer windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Unable to open Windows Explorer

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Download FixAgent and unzip it. Run FixAgent.exe. It should fix something. If nothing is fixed, skip to the next step for the HijackThis fixes. If something is found, also download home_missing_114 and unzip it. Run the Home winkey missing batch file. Remember: ONLY run home_missing_114 if FixAgent found something.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\nyxmc.dll/sp.html#10213
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\nyxmc.dll/sp.html#10213

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\nyxmc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\jcjnl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\mfcsu32.dll
C:NO_SUCH_MHT.MHT!

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Hi,
On a domain Windows 7 computer where several users log in for work, there is a user who is unable to open/restore/maximise windows explorer. All other user account on this computer don't an issue with Windows Explorer.
Help!!!

Harry

A:Unable to open/restore/maximise windows explorer

sounds like a corrupt profile. try creating a new profile for the user, don't delete the old one, and see if that works. but first, have the user go to another computer and see if his profile works there. if that doesn't work, the user may have a problem with permissions, did it ever work for the user? just had a thought, you need to get on the server and check the proup policy settings for that user before doing anything else, then try the other computer, then try the new profile. sorry for the confusion, it's been a couple of months since i worked on active directory.

Hello, In Windows Vista, it was possible to run an elevated Windows Explorer window. To do so, enable the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" check box, log off, and then log back on. After that, you can right-click the Windows Explorer shortcut and choose "Run as administrator." This no longer works in Windows 7. It is a legitimate need to occasionally run Windows Explorer elevated; for example, to register or unregister WSC (Windows script component files) or to run Windows scripts elevated. Can anyone comment on this limitation and whether it is a flaw or by design? Thanks! Bill Stewart

A:Unable To Open Any Video Files, Windows Explorer Crashes

I found out that if I disable the thumbnail view for videos that It will not crash. I went to start-> run and typed: regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll. Now it works fine. It should work with the thumbnails though, as it did before.

For the past few days I have been having constant problems with my IE malfunctioning when I try to go to a browser on a search and try using the web page. Now, today, I can no longer use my IE11 browser at all as it says "This Page Cannot Displayed." I have no way of uninstalling this version from my Windows 10 as it does not show up in Programs & Features, in "Uninstall an Update," nor does it show up in Programs & Features itself. Now, Internet Explorer is completely useless to me. I need to uninstall it and reinstall it to get it to work properly again. I need to uninstall this and either go back to an earlier version such as IE10.
Please advise.

I am running windows 7 x64 on a core 2 quad. I can never seem to upgrade internet explorer 8 to 9. I keep receiving errors. I have deactivated all of the addons. My computer is completely up to date but for this one. I received error code:80246007 What should I do?

Thank you

A:unable to upgrade to internet explorer 9 on windows 7 computer.

When you try to install updates from the Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site, you may receive a "0x80246007" error code
may apply - I think it still applies to Vista and Win7.

If I open windows explorer or my computer that window freezes up and everything inside it becomes white. Occasionally after a long period of time I can see my drives and can click things but it is very very slow.

I have checked for viruses with more than one program and cleaned all spyware off of the computer. I have also ran check disk and defragged recently. I also ran system file checker and I still have the problem. My last try will be to do a repair install of windows, but I was hoping someone here might know of a way to fix this issue.

Hi,

When you open Windows Explorer it shows as default 'My Documents' folder.

Can i change this so that it opens the item 'Computer' instead every time i open explorer?

Kind regards,

Rob.

A:Windows Explorer set to open Computer as default

Hello Rob, and welcome back.

Yes, you can change the location like in the tutorial below to this location:

%windir%\explorer.exe /n,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Windows Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have a friend who is suddenly experiencing an issue where they are no longer able to Open an Excel file through their Windows Explorer (e.g. when trying to open a Excel file from within their My Documents folder). After double clicking on the file, Excel opens and acts as if it is opening the file but then proceeds to show just a blank worksheet. The file does not appear to be corrupt since they can then go to File/Open from within Excel, locate the folder and then Open it without a problem.

Any suggestions? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as to the cause and resolution for this.

Thank you greatly,

Mike

Hello everyone,

I'm totally new to these forums but I wanted my pinned windows explorer shortcut on my taskbar to open Computer instead of Libraries.

So I've figured it out and wrote a application for it.

It will open anything you select from the list. (Thanks Brink for the list)

Program is attached.

It'd be nice to see some replies regarding this.

P.S App is written in C# for those who wonder...

W7ExplorerShortcut is the console application that only allows you to set it to open My Computer.
7Tweaker is the GUI application that gives you a list of options.

A:Change pinned Windows Explorer to open Computer

Thank you very much, Freckle. Most everybody here is using a shortcut.

My windows explorer.exe has been crashing for the past few months when I open up a folder (e.g. My Documents, My computer). It doesn't happen everytime and I think I need to have all the folders closed and then open one up for explorer.exe to crash.

Hello As stated one of our customers has some windows based software Sage Line and Telemagic to be precise which is run from a shortcut on the desktop mapped to a network share with the exe located within however whenever you run either of these shortcuts or even if you navigate directly to the file you get the error quot Windows cannot access the specified to explorer open but from unable exe prompt? from can cmd device path or file You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item quot however the users in question have full local rights and full control over the files unable to open exe from explorer but can from cmd prompt? on the server inc the exe As they are part of the USERs group which have full control The Administrator has no problem in getting this file to run now the confusing part from the unable to open exe from explorer but can from cmd prompt? cmd prompt the file can be accessed So creating a batch file solves the issue However this being more of a work around than a solution There is no group policies that are effecting this as no other users are struggling Maybe there is a local policy in effect but i have no idea where to look Any ideas would be ace Thanks Ash nbsp

The problem: Unable to open Internet Explorer

Click on Start

Click on Internet Explorer

Goes to Blank Screen

After 30 - 45 seconds, it goes back to Desktop
(I timed the duration of the blank screen with
the second hand on my watch)

I can follow recipe-like-step-by-step instructions.

I would be most grateful for any help you might

I logged on to AOL IM and looked at a friend's away message. She had at the bottom a link www.talkstocks.net and I clicked on it to see what it was. Well, it took me to a page saying something about adware on the computer and removing it. Anyhow, it asked me if I'd like to download something, I said No. Then, my computer just went haywire, the little green light saying the hard drive was busy kept flashing and I could hear my hard drive churning away. I did the three finger salute, control alt delete, and canceled out of everything. Then when I click on explorer to open it it says server busy! HELP PLEASE!!! I'm on a friends computer now.

A:unable to open Internet Explorer with my Presario laptop

There is a Trojan that causes this. Suggest you start a thread here: TSF Virus help.

When the Trojan has been killed, do this:

Open IE, then click, Tools - Internet Options, click Connections tab - LAN Settings, make sure 'Automatically Detect' is checked and that the 'Uses Proxy' is unchecked.

I keep Internet Explorer as reserve browser because some government web sites only work with it.

Now I just fresh reinstalled Windows 7 x64 and Internet Explorer 11 and was playing with adding plugins like Flash Player etc. etc.
I used the browser for only a few minutes then suddenly it started acting crazy.
I type the address in the bar, the web page opens for a second then it redirects to a blank page so I'm not able to go anywhere.
Please check the screen shots.

PS: I struggled with the previous Windows installation because the upgrade from IE8 to IE9 corrupted the system, not I fresh installed Windows and again Internet Explorer is giving problems, how stupid is that and what Micro$oft is doing!!!

My Internet Explorer 6 running on Windows XP will not open links in Outlook Express or on the web. All I get is a blank white screen. This is a sudden development. I have installed XP SP 1 as well as all the latest IE6 upgrades/service packs. After a few moments an error message - "Modname: Winshow.dll" comes up and shuts down IE6. Restarting XP is the only way to access the internet. After a short time the message recurs.

Has anybody encountered this problem. I need help!

A:Win32.Virut.Gen.D has changed explorer files to .lnk, unable to open.

I'm afraid I have very bad news. Your system is infected with a nasty variant of Virut, a dangerous polymorphic file infector with IRCBot functionality which infects .exe, .scr files, and opens a back door that compromises your computer. Using this backdoor, a remote attacker can access and instruct the infected computer to download and execute more malicious files. -- Note: As with most malware infections, the threat name may be different depending on the anti-virus or anti-malware program which detected it. Each security vendor uses their own naming conventions to identify various types of malware.Understanding virus names Threat aliases for Win32.Win32.Virut Threat aliases for Win32.Virtob.Gen.12 With this particular infection, the safest solution and only sure way to remove it effectively is to reformat and reinstall the OS. Why? According to this Norman White Paper Assessment of W32/Virut, some variants can infect the HOSTS file and block access to security related web sites. Other variants of virut can even penetrate and infect .exe files within compressed files (.zip, .cab, rar). The Virux and Win32/Virut.17408 variants are an even more complex file infectors which can embed an iframe into the body of web-related files and infect script files (.php, .asp, .htm, .html, .xml). When Virut creates infected files, it also creates non-functional files that are corrupted beyond repair and in some instances can disable Windows File Protection. In many cases the infected files cannot be disinfected properly by your anti-virus. When disinfection is attempted, the files become corrupted and the system may become irreparable. The longer virut remains on a computer, the more critical system files will become infected and corrupt so the degree of damage can vary.

The virus disables Windows File Protection by injecting code into the "winlogon.exe" process that patches system code in memory.CA Virus detail of W32/Virut The virus has a number of bugs in its code, and as a result it may misinfect a proportion of executable files....some W32/Virut.h infections are corrupted beyond repair.McAfee Risk Assessment and Overview of W32/Virut There are bugs in the viral code. When the virus produces infected files, it also creates non-functional files that also contain the virus...Due to the damaged caused to files by virut it's possible to find repaired but corrupted files. They became corrupted by the incorrect writing of the viral code during the process of infection. undetected, corrupted files (possibly still containing part of the viral code) can also be found. this is caused by incorrectly written and non-function viral code present in these files.AVG Overview of W32/Virut Virut is commonly spread via a flash drive (usb, pen, thumb, jump) infection using RUNDLL32.EXE and other malicious files. It is often contracted by visiting remote, crack and keygen sites. These type of sites are infested with a smörgåsbord of malware and a major source of system infection. ...warez and crack web pages are being used by cybercriminals as download sites for malware related to VIRUT and VIRUX. Searches for serial numbers, cracks, and even antivirus products like Trend Micro yield malcodes that come in the form of executables or self-extracting files...quick links in these sites also lead to malicious files. Ads and banners are also infection vectors...Keygen and Crack Sites Distribute VIRUX and FakeAV However, the CA Security Advisor Research Blog have found MySpace user pages carrying the malicious Virut URL. Either way you can end up with a computer system so badly damaged that recovery is not possible and it cannot be repaired. When that happens there is nothing you can do besides reformatting and reinstalling the OS. Since virut is not effectively disinfectable, your best option is to perform a full reformat as there is no guarantee this infection can be completely removed. In most instances it may have caused so much damage to y... Read more

All of a sudden I am experiencing major problems and I don t know why I figure they are Decoders?)/Unable DVD's to open Difficulty Explorer playing (CinePlayer Internet somehow related but I m not sure of that The first thing I noticed was that I am having problems playing a DVD on my computer regardless of which program I try to use Also I am suddenly unable to open Internet Difficulty playing DVD's (CinePlayer Decoders?)/Unable to open Internet Explorer Explorer Difficulty playing DVD's (CinePlayer Decoders?)/Unable to open Internet Explorer However I am able to use three other browsers without any problems I was able to play a DVD only this afternoon so this is a very recent problem Power DVD and Real Player won t play DVD s at all and Windows Media Player will play a DVD though not without a little extra doing With Power DVD the disc started loading then quickly stopped with the message End Program - Power DVD This program is not responding Next I tried Real Player It opened and I went to Play gt Play CD or DVD D I clicked Play and RP suddenly stopped I tried to click quot x quot to get out of RP and nothing at Difficulty playing DVD's (CinePlayer Decoders?)/Unable to open Internet Explorer all happened At this point the screen was totally frozen I then tried to end RP from the Taskbar and got an error message End Program - Real Player This program is not responding I clicked End Now and RP shut down Then immediately I received a Microsoft Online Crash Analysis screen Error caused by RealNetworks Inc No specific solution found Another time with RP I got the following message The CinePlayer decoders have not been activated You must activate the product before use Please run the player that included these decoders in order to activate the product I read somewhere that CinePlayer decoders are loaded along with Roxio Easy Media Creator It just so happens that I donwloaded and installed Roxio EMC last night so I m wondering if my problem is related to this Roxio program When I then tried to play a DVD with Windows Media Player I received the same quot CinePlayer decoders have not been activated quot message I got with Real Player I clicked OK and then a few seconds later the movie starts to play Next I found out that Windows Media Player was able to play both an asx movie which is located on my hard drive and a live streaming baseball game from mlb com So perhaps the only problem with the players is with an inserted DVD Finally I have four browsers installed The only one that will not open is Internet Explorer When I try to open it I get the following message Cannot find server - Microsoft Internet Explorer The page cannot be displayed Mozilla Firefox Opera and Netscape Navigator all open properly So after going through an extra step I am able to play a DVD with WMP though not with the other disc players And I am still unable to open Internet Explorer One other thing Late this afternoon I ran several anti-spyware programs which I installed less than a week ago I m wondering if it s possible that I have inadvertently removed some necessary files from my system Could someone please tell me how to correct this situation I m thinking the video irregularities perhaps stem from a problem with the CinePlayer decoders However I don t know why I am suddenly unable to open Internet Explorer I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might be able to help nbsp

I am desperate for help. Can anybody help me with an idiot proof step by step guide of how to restore my pc to happier times? It got infected with various virusses and malware inc google re-direct and I ended up with palladium pro rendering it useless. . . I have xp home edition. Used bleeping computer for step by step instructions of how to remove and was successfull... after a few days allsorts of popups, security warnings and redirect issues were back again which system restore got over (or so I thought). All this has come from me installing microsoft security essentials I beleive? I can no longer get on the internet, system restore now fails and I can't add/remove programs either?? Malwarebytes full scan shows 0 infected files. . . Is there anything I can do. Only have limited internet access through my mobile phone. Thanks in advance!

A:system restore failing, internet explorer won't open, unable to add/remove programs??

The assumption by many...that the effects of malware can be easily overcome and the system returned to happier days...just is not true.

In addition to file damage which may have directly inflicted by the malware...there is always the possiblity that key files have been damaged during efforts to troubleshoot and remove known/detected malware itesm.

System manufacturer and model, please?

Do you have any Windows installation CDs?

I have W7 Home Premuim and tried to open the following url

https://clientservices.vfmii.com/pdl/Main.html?company=ihg

after a brief glimpse of a login panel I get and error (see attachment). However, I can open it in another W7 Starter and in an XP.

Also I was unable to download a University file, that I managed to do later in the XP.

Apart from this I am downloading loads of programmes and other things, so I don't understand what could be blocking these. Any ideas, please?

qim

Ps - I turned off the firewall just in case but still the same.

PPS -more news: ican open it in the same computer with Google Chrome and if I tri it with Firefox it tells me that I need Flash. It does not open with IE9, even though this is the browser I normally use and have no trouble with (other than these two issues)

A:Unable to open url available in another W7 computer

Try going into Tools' upper right' then select Internet Options in IE9, Go to the Advanced tab, select "reset" reboot the system and try again.

The link works for me using IE9. You may need to install Adobe flash.

Hi All!

I am stuck with a problem in my Windows XP Dell Dimension 4600.

When I plug in a USB memory drive it no longer opens in the auto-run way that it used to.

If I go to my computer and double click on Removable Disk E I get the following error message appear:

"The application or DLL E:\mlhtml.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

http://cheekymccheek.tripod.com/usb_error_1crop.JPG

Then when I click OK to the above I get:

http://cheekymccheek.tripod.com/usb_error_2crop.JPG

When I click ok to the second dialogue box above nothing happens.

I can still get access to the USB drive on E if I go through Windows Explorer though, but would like to be able to view it normally!

Any help would be much appreciated

A:E000101F4: Unable to open (initialize) computer

First off to enter Disk Management from the command prompt, you would type diskmgmt.msc. not disc. As for your maxtor drive, the file system is corrupted. This could be due to the controller in the case failing. If you can see the drive in My Computer and Disk Management then go to Start/Run and chkdsk F: /R (assuming the drive is still F:)and press enter. Now type a Y to unmount the drive and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors. If this fails, remove the drive from the case, and attach it to a USB Adapter and plug it into a computer and run Check Disk.

A:Computer very slow and some programs unable to open

Please download Combofix from HERE

Save ComboFix to the desktop.

1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.

Hi, recently I have been unable to open My Computer, the Control Panel or any folders on my laptop. There are no errors, they are just completely unresponsive. This first happened about a month ago, and after a week of getting no where, I reinstalled Windows 7 and that seemed to fix it for a couple of weeks, but it's now happening again and I'm stumped. I have tried running disk check and scannow, and had a look in registry editor but everything seems to be fine.

I've never run into a problem I've not been able to figure out, but I'm completely at a loss with this one. Because of this I'm unable to access any files so any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

My desktop after a while will not open any programs or files. I would say after 30 min to an hour. I have to reset the computer manually and the whole issue happens again. This doesn't appear to happen in safe mode though. I've used multiple virus programs to remove them but the issue still remains. I run windows 7 32 bit. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

A:computer unable to open files after a while, ok in safe mode

Hello prerunner97,

You could try a Clean Startup and see if you can determine a startup program you have that is causing the issue.
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

You stated "I've used multiple virus programs to remove them but the issue still remains."
Does that mean you found malware, and removed what was found?
If so, maybe there are still some malware problems?
I'm no Malware expert, but there is a SF System Security forum where you could add a thread explaining your issue, and experts there might be able to help you.

Pin Explorer to Taskbar to Open Computer instead of Libraries I searched but could not to Computer Explorer Pin Open find anything about this if this is already here just ignore this or delete it Note to Brink feel free to add this to tutorials if it is not there Pin Explorer to Open Computer I could not find anything regarding this issue I liked that you could do this in without issue but in if you try to pin explorer to the taskbar it will open with a second unstacked icon next to it Annoying and I am still trying to figure out how to fix this with Firefox Portable and other apps but I am not sure it will be possible I think it is due to redirection That's another story though If the icon is still there on your taskbar and you have not deleted it yet Right click it then Right Click File Explorer Click Properties Change Target to C Windows explorer exe Include the space and coma Click OK you are done So you deleted the icon but now you want it back as described Right click Start button or open File Explorer which ever way you can want Pin to Taskbar then repeat steps above Enjoy

A:Pin Explorer to Open Computer

I am not sure, but I think the explorer shortcut was already pinned to my taskbar, after the initial install? Whatever, if I pinned it myself, I do not get a second unstacked icon?

But, to add to your method, you can of course, direct it to open at any point in the Window. I used to alter mine to read

C:\Windows\explorer.exe /n, /e, C:\

The "n" and "e" have become redundant, but you can read what they were once used for, here.

I am connected to internet by a broad band connection named jctelecom.
i used to open a folder which was on the service provider computer by clicking on a shortcut on the desktop.
i had some windows problem and installed a new window. then i set up a broadband connection that is working alright but the above discribed folder is not being opened and there is no shortcut for that folder on my computer as that was before installing new windows.

i will be thank full if any one has understood my problem and tell me the solution.

I am trying to open files from my usb key. Each time I try to open the drive it is in, or files, it is extremely slow. I tried deleting or opening different type of files, and my computer always freezes, or it is not responding.
I tried on different computers, forced restart my computer, and it always acts the same way.

There is specifically a word file that I would like to access.

I would appreciate some advice.

A:Unable to open files on USB Flash drive-computer freezes

If it's occurring on multiple PC's, the drive is corrupted/faulty.

Flash drives are not reliable and they are meant as portable storage between computers. They should NOT be used as a primary storage device.

You can try formatting the drive and then testing it again.

Hi and Welcome
It may help you if you print out or copy this page for easy reference.. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order its listed. Please Keep your browser closed when you are carrying out the fixes. Please do not run HJT on the desktop or a temp folder. Its best run in a dedicated folder of its own.

Make sure to run Adaware and Spybot (check for updates) for a preliminary cleanup first. Some files below may not be present after running the above programs

Then....
Run hjt in safe mode... HOW TO RUN SAFE MODE and have "Hijack This" fix all the following items in the list below by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting "fix checked".Please post a new log when finished.

With the EXE files that have been selected go into HijackThis/Config/Misc/Tools/ and open process manager. Select the EXE files (if they are there) and click Kill process before deleting.

Have your system set to show hidden files and folders.. HOW TO SHOW FILES. When done download Cleanup to clean out your tempory files.

Files highlighted in BLACK in the log will need to be removed from your hard drive.

A:how to change explorer to open to my computer?

Hello hakimalireze, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you mean to have explorer open to the "Computer" folder, then you could use the target location with the tutorial below.

explorer.exe shell:MyComputerFolder

Hope this helps,

Hello resham.vidhani, to TSF!

Presuming you can open other programs; open your Anti Virus program > update its definitions > run a full scan.
Report back with the results.

These are the errors I found. They're in swedish so I'll have to translate some, so if it doesn't look exactly like it would in English that's why.

Whenever I start up my computer, the Internet Explorer wants to open. It of course is not connected to the Internet, so it says "page not found". Sometimes it opens up endless windows and I can't shut them down faster than they open.

I tried deleting Internet Explorer from my computer and seeing if that would stop it. But each time I turn on my computer again, it is back. It never goes away. I can close the IE window if it only opens one of them and my computer works fine after that, but it is always back at the next start-up.

I am currently using Windows XP professional and I use the Yahoo Browser for my internet access. I don't really use the Internet Explorer program itself.

How do I get rid of this annoying window that wants to open every time I turn my computer on??

Dodiemom

A:Internet Explorer Wants To Open At Computer Start Up

dodiemom,First of all let me say Welcome to Bleeping Computer. My first impression is that you have IE in your start up menu somehow. Also I would highly discourage attempts at "uninstalling" IE. Especially if you are using Windows XP. IE is such an integral part of XP, that by attempting to uninstall IE you may corrupt you OS irreparably. You may use alternative browsers if you wish and just leave IE in place. One other thing I might advise is that Yahoo does not make or have a browser per se. The browser is still IE however "branded" with the Yahoo logo, and possibly has Yahoo tool bar attached. Underneath it all, it's still IE. To stop IE from opening at start up follow the instructions below. These instructions are assuming you are using Windows XP. If you are using another OS please post back.Start by cleaning out your Startup folder. Find it in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, where username is your Windows logon name. Delete the shortcuts of any programs you don't want to run on start-up. As with any shortcuts, when you delete them, you're deleting only the shortcut, not the program itself. (You can also clear out the start-up items by going to Start > Programs > Startup, then right-clicking items you want to remove.)Be (IE Startup) SafeDa Bleeping Advisor, Animal

A:Slow Computer & Cannot Open Internet Explorer

Hi,

I don't see anything suspicious here... When having problems like this, in most cases Security software is the cause. On some systems, certain Security applications just won't work properly. I see you are having Zonealarm and I have seen this issue with Zonealarm quite a lot.
Uninstall Zonealarm and let me know if that solved the problem.

I recently started having a problem with opening pop-up windows in IE6 running under XP Home Edition. For example, when trying to update McAfee programs, it is necessary to click on an update button. This usually opens up a window to download the update. Now when I press the update button, the window opens momentarily then closes. I'm having the same problem with other websites. I've tried turning off the popup blocker and holding down the Control key but I still can't get the windows to open.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
many thanks,

Hi,
try re-installing IE.

You may have problems with malware, so it would be a good idea to go through 'Having problems with spyware/viruses' in my sig. We have had the same problem before on a different computer, and it was due to malware.

I have an older Dell Inspiron 1100, running Windows XP- SP2. During start up two error boxes open up the first stating ,wininet.dll not found the second stating Error loading newdev.dll specified module could not be found. I tried Software restoration cd, but this would not work since it did not contain SP2. Since I can't gain internet access I'm not able to download SP2 from Microsoft.com.

I tried running a test on hardware and all passed. Any ideas on what I could do to get computer back in service?

Why would you download SP2?

When do those messages appear? Can you get to your desktop?

If not, can you get into the Recovery Console?

Do you have everything backed up so you can install Windows from scratch?

I then booted into my other hard drive which has XP on it, and went into Computer Management and the hard drive that has Windows 7 on it is reading:-

Has anyone any ideas.

Firstly hello to everyone. Admin - Please move to correct section if in wrong place.
I checked my computer for viruses with NOD yesterday. It found a virus called Genetik trojan in WIN32. It also found problems with hg1.dll fil. It asked me if I wanted to delete it although other programs may use it. Stupidly I deleted it. Now for some reason, I can not open Internet Explorer, Control Panel, My Computer or Recycle Bin. I click on the icons in the desktop but nothing happens.
I'm assuming there is a problem that is based out of Internet Explorer since those other programs use the same type look. I've tried d/ling Internet Explorer 7 but it has not fixed the problem.
Can anyone help me out please? I am a teacher and use my computer daily in lesson - but now I've really messed it up. I can get access to the internet using Mozilla.
Thanks,
Dma.

HG1.dll is not a Windows file so it is likely that an infection has caused your problems. Your best bet would be to run a Deckard's System Scan but this is going to be difficult if you can't access Internet Explorer. First of all, let's see if we can correct your system files using the System File Checker. Only do this if you have SP2 on your installation disc. Otherwise you will need to slipstream SP2 to the installation disc. Follow these steps (courtesy of Chauffeur2)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow ?please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

Each time I attempt to open Internet Explorer (IE 9). My Vista Desktop restarts. Also it will not find updates.

Any ideas?

A:Each time I try to open Internet Explorer, the computer restarts.

Hello JSW,

What do you mean by the desktop restarts?  Can you please clarify and post screenshot if possible?
Do you get any error msgs? (e.g. windows explorer has stopped working, Internet explorer has stopped working and must be closed....)

NOTE: IE9 is the last IE browser that is supported in Vista, and it doesn't play well with many sites anymore, as it is outdated. (Gmail, for one doesn't support IE9)

Windows Update still supplies security updates for IE9.  Are you saying you can't use WU?

I would recommend using Google Chrome, especially since you cannot install IE10 or 11 with Vista.

Let me know

Mark.

For some reason, all of a sudden I could not open Internet Explorer, Control Panel, My Computer or Recycle Bin. I click on the icons in the desktop but nothing happens. With Internet Explorer, the arrow will get the little hourglass symbol next to it but it doesn't open. I can use Netscape to navigate the computer and I can open other programs. I'm assuming there is a problem that is based out of Internet Explorer since those other programs use the same type look. I've tried d/ling Internet Explorer Service Pack 6 but I run into some kind of error saying that it can't find all the components to install. Can anyone help me out? Let me know if you need more info. I've run a bunch of adware and spyware stuff too.

A:Can not open Internet Explorer, Control Panel, My Computer, etc.

Let us have a look-see.........

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

When I open My Computer, Control Panel or any other folder that requires explorer.exe to run, the system crashes, the desktop disappears and then reappears. I can then click on My Computer etc. with success but can only do this once. Basically every other time that I try to access explorer.exe the system crashes. The crash notes the error with atl.dll when opening explorer.exe. Atl.dll is not read only, and I've tried re-installing the file with no success. I've also tried moving all .cpl files out of the system32 folder but it still crashes when opening Control Panel.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Can't Open My Computer, Control Panel Or Use Explorer.exe Without Crashing

From another post that I made:Next, please go to Start...Control Panel...Administrative Tools...Event Viewer. Once Event Viewer opens there will be 3 categories listed in the left hand pane (Application, Security, and System). Please click on each one (in turn) and view the messages for that category in the right hand pane. Look for any error messages around the time of the last problem. Then right click on the error and select "Properties". In the window that opens will be a text description of the error - please copy it down and forward it to me. The error text should generally be in the format of 0x0000007a - with the last 2 letters'numbers changing depending upon the error. Also, usually another 4 sets of these numbers follows the error message - they are important also. Finally, at times there is a file name mentioned with the error message - please let me know what it is.If there are too many errors to choose from, please let me know and we can proceed a bit differently. Also, generally speaking, the usual location for this type of error will be in the System category - but there is a possibility that it may be in the other areas. Please do not erase your log files until we're finished troubleshooting this issue.

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared

This morning I did a system restore due to contracting malware. After the restore when I tried to open any program in windows I received a dialogue box saying 'choose the program you wish to open this file.' When I selected ie another dialogue box popped up asking me to click 'run' It looks like it wants to download, but of course I know that windows shouldn't behave this way.

Online research recognized the problem and suggested downloading a program called FixExe, but I am in no position to download anything since I am unable to open my browser.

Furthermore, I am unable to access safemode as my F8 key is not responding.

Thank you for any suggestions.
