Unsure of what graphics card my computer can upgrade to

Q: Unsure of what graphics card my computer can upgrade to

Hello,

I'm really new to the tech/ computer world, and know next to nothing about graphics cards. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what graphics card I can upgrade my computer to (if I can upgrade at all) I was wanting to buy the new Sims 4 game, but after having played a very slow and choppy Sims 3 for years on this computer, I'm ready to actually play a game smoothly without it freezing all the time.

Here's what computer I have:
Compaq Presario PC SR5601P
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 4400
Dual-Core Processor
Memory: 1 GB
Hard drive: 250 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Graphics
Windows Vista SP 1

Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sims 4 System Requirements & your PC system results

For Sims 4 according to the link above, your CPU GPU and memory is lacking for even the minimum system specs. We can recommend a GPU, but that's not all you need if you plan on playing Sims 4. And if you get a stronger GPU, chances are you will also need a stronger PSU. If 300W's is all you have for power, you are limited to sub $100 graphic cards. Which would be fine for Sims 4, but then you also have a CPU and memory that needs upgrading.

I have recently seen a great graphics card that I want to buy for my computer. The only thing is I don't know whether my computer will bottleneck if I add the graphics card and PSU.

My current PC: http://goo.gl/2eBq7
It is overclocked to 3.6Ghz.
The graphics card I want to get:http://goo.gl/pT5r7
And the PSU: http://goo.gl/P276F

Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Chris

A:Unsure if my new graphics card will work with my PC

This is a better choice of a PSU: http://www.corsair.com/en/power-sup...00-80-plus-bronze-certified-power-supply.html
The A8 will somewhat bottleneck the GPU, but for the most part, it is fine.
As for your overclock, how were you able to overclock a non-unlocked CPU on a OEM motherboard with no aftermarket cooler?

A:Unsure of what graphics card my PC can handle

Well for starters I would say that you should get a better PSU. Anyhow, If you are not sure of what connectors that you have got you can always open the case and see (here is a good pic of pci / pcie slots). If you open the case you can also see what PSU you have got

Anyhow, if I were you I would upgrade the PSU and then the graphics card but that again would maybe require a bit higher budget or then I would get a 2nd hand graphics card...something like a nVidia GT9500 or something like that

I ran a system scan on pcpitstop.com and the results told me that I should update my NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller and Network Bus Enumerator Drivers from versions 50.0.9.0 to 67.8.9. I know that it isn't necessary to update your drivers unless they are giving you problems so does anybody have any advice for me? I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6100 video card installed with Windows XP SP3.

A:unsure about updating graphics card drivers

If your current drivers are working properly, I would not update them.

I have an ATI AIW 9800 Pro running three year old drivers. Anything newer kills my TV tuner.

I have a Dell Inspiron 570 that is about 4-5 years old and I am trying to run a program called Zwift on it but it is lagging due to the GC not being up to specs. I'm not sure what my options are as I do not know a whole lot about computers.

The current computer specs are;

-ACPI x64 based pc
-Windows 7 w/ 203gb free space
-ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card
-Dynex 400-Watt ATX CPU Power Supply

The program recommends the following minimum requirements;

-OS: Windows 7 x64 bit, OSX 10.7
-Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo
-Memory: 4GB
-Graphics: 1GB dedicated GPU, or embedded Intel HD 4000/AMD R5
-Hard Drive: 4GB of free space

Just trying to figure out if upgrading the current computer is worth it/possible or if I should start shopping for a new pc.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

ATI Radeon HD 5450

Would a new AT Radeon HD 6870 work in this computer at the moment? I was wondering if I had the correct connections really since the computer is quite old, still using IDE connections.
Thanks

I'm sure you would need a much larger PSU to run that card, here's the specs.

Your 500 watt PSU meets the minimum requirement.... GeForce GTX 970 | Specifications | GeForce

So with that in mind....I'd say yes to a new PSU.

A:graphics card upgrade

Hi, UEFI enabled graphics cards vary by manufacturer.  Check with the specific manufacturer.  You might want to consider the EVGA NVIDIA GT 640. The GT 640 only requires a 350 watt power supply and is a single slot card. It's $70.  Check with EVGA for compatibility before you buy.

A:Graphics Card Upgrade

Hi: There are no removable or upgradable graphics cards in your notebook. The nvidia GT940m GPU is integrated into the motherboard and the only way to upgrade the graphics would be to replace the entire motherboard with one listed in the service manual for your model notebook that may have better graphics. This would be a very costly and labor intensive project. Better to sell your notebook and get one with the graphics solution you want.

I have a HP d4000e with a new blue ray player installed but the nVidia 6200se video card will not support the blue ray player, can anyone recommend an agp video card to replace it and where do I get it.

A:Graphics card upgrade

In order to play Blu-ray content you'll need (besides the Blu-ray player ofc):

A HDCP-capable software media player (you should have received one with the player);
A HDCP-capable video card (all modern video cards from 2007 and onwards);
And a HDCP-capable display (if it has a HDMI input, then it should also have HDCP).
What's HDCP?
High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, a form of copy protection that basically lets you play only on devices that have this feature.
Check this link if you want to learn more about it.

Back to your question, if you can find one in your area, HIS makes an AGP version of the ATi Radeon HD 4350 which is excellent for Blu-ray playback and is also pretty cheap.
The full name for it should be HIS Radeon HD4350 iFan 512MB DDR3 64-bit AGP.
Sapphire also makes an AGP HD 4650: Sapphire Radeon HD4650 1GB DDR2 128-bit AGP. This is a bit more expensive than the other, but is also more suitable for gaming (if you care).
If you tell me in which country you live, I could also give you some suggestions where to buy one.

PS: Both cards are HDCP-compliant.

I'm currently using the following card:

EVGA 01G-P3-1158-TR GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI.

Last week I changed from Win 7 home Premium 32 bit to the 64 bit. I built this computer last fall, and the the rest of my specs are I5 Quad core 760, 2.80G; 8gb Corsair DDR3 1600, 600W PS.

I use this computer mostly for Flight Sims, and it seems to me my best upgrade would be the GPU. I've always had good luck with EVGA, Nvidea cards, and would like to get one that will outperform the old 250 I'm using and will also run on the 600W PS. I guess I could replace the PS if I really had to, but not looking forward to the work involved, lol.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions that will improve my system. Thanks.

Hello!
I recently tried to update my graphics card and was met with disastrous results. Can you tell me if my machine "should" have let me upgrade to the following card with no issues?
My MachineDell XPS 8700 X8700-3312BLK Desktop (Windows 7 Professional,Memory     16GB (Upgraded to 32)  Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 4 DIMMsVideo Graphics     NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 4GB DDR3
Upgraded Card to:  MSI GAMING RX 480 GDD R5 8GB
What HappenedEvery time I tried to load my game (World of Warcraft) my machine would reboot. When I tried to load the MSI software it made the screen have boxes all over it then it did a reboot. Finally I got the blue screen.  Put my old card back on.  I also had to use the special connector for it which I did. It wouldn't start at all without that.
Thanks!
Nancy

Looking For a Graphics Card Upgrade Of My Old PC.
I don't know what type of port I have to do that.
Please look at those images and help me to identify.....

My black port can be seen in image two.
My System Specifications:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86 GHz processor
DDR2 4GB RAM 536MHz
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and Windows 10 Pro 64 bit dual boot.
Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS 256 MB DDR2 VGA
Is the port shown in the image is a PCI-Express slot?
And what version is it?PCI-Express 1.0 or 2.0 or 3.0?PCI-Express 16 or 8?
I want to know about it because I think to upgrade to Nvidia GeForce 750 GTX 1GB Card.
Please help me to identify the port.

Hello, i am looking to upgrade my old PC's GPU as well as CPU.

The motherboard does have the required slots for a new graphics card. Right now it has an integrated one ( ATI Radeon 2100 ) as well as a weak one core processor (amd sempron 140). The motherboard is FOXCONN A74ML-K. What are some good, but rather cheap graphics cards as well as a processor which will fit my motherboard, both for the price of £120 combined? I would like to use this computer for light gaming, i dont expect ultra settings on every game, just want them to be playable. And can this motherboard work with any processor and graphics cards?

Thanks for suggestions

So I'm looking to upgrade the graphics card in my computer. I was trying to stick a Nvidia GEForce 7600 in there that I parted out of another computer until I realized that I have a PCI x slot rather then AGP, which is an issue. So with a Pentium 4 processor, 1.25 ram, which is easily upgraded, and I can easily get a new power source, what would be a comparable card to the GEForce?

Hi, I would ask you if I can upgrade my lenovo H50-50 (8GB RAM,intel i7 3.60GHz,GTX 745)with the Zotac GTX 1060 6GB Thanks in advance.

A:[H50-50] Graphics card upgrade

Hi Ale1612YT ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

OEM recommended upgrade listed from the hardware manual page 75.
However this does not limit other owners from customizing their rig to what is needed similar to this thread successfully upgrading both GPU and PSU (gigabyte gtx960 itx card and a corsair 500w atx psu) .

On the same thread , fellow selenit4 is currently in process for a zotac gtx 1060 mini and a corsair cx600 and would be updating for functionality soon.

Hope this helps answer your query.

My current desktop configuration:

Intel P4 2.66 GHz
RAM: 1 GB (will upgrade to 2GB)
Motherboard: MSI PM8PM L
Current OS: Win XP 32-bit

I am planning to upgrade OS to Windows 7. For this I want to upgrade the Graphics Card. Looking at motherboard configuration can anyone suggest me the best Graphics card?

My board supports AGP 4x/8x card. The specification says 32-bits, so can I install Radeon HD 3650 card which is 128-bit? Please suggest.

Thanks.

A:Upgrade Graphics Card

htank, welcome to the forums.

Will that card work with Windows 7? Yes it will. Is it worth buying just for Windows 7? Others may say yes, but personally I would say no. Reason for that is you are liable to run into all kinds of problems getting it to work due to being an AGP card, if you haven't yet do a search of this forum and you will find there have been all kinds of problems getting AGP cards to work in Windows 7 (there is a 27 page thread stickied at the top of this forum). Most of the problems stem from AGP not being fully supported and the lack of a proper AGP driver (not to be confused with the driver for the video card), that allows the video card driver to work properly.

Also depending on your current power supply, you may also need to upgrade it for that card as the card requires an external connection to the power supply.

Another thing is that sad to say, but the card you linked to costs about what your whole computer is worth. Also if you do get that card and then decide down the road to get a new computer, you won't be able to move the card to the new computer as there are no computers being sold with AGP slots anymore.

Normally I am all for upgrading as necessary, but in cases like yours I usually recommend on holding off on Windows 7 until such a time as you get a new computer that is more in line with running it without needlessly spending money to get there.

I am just curious as to what graphics cards I can install in my laptop. I have the HP pavilion G070ca 17inch laptop, it currently uses an intel I7-5500u and a nvidia GT940m. I would like to upgrade to probably the 970 or 980 just wanting to know if those are compatiable with my laptop

Better to sell your notebook and get one with the graphics solution you want.

the 660 scores higher in future mark than the 750ti as well as getting higher frame rates in most games. youll see an improvement if you get a 760.

With that budget and 500 watts, you should not be too limited in your purchases. One thing you need to check is if your Power Supply has a set of 6 pin connectors or 8 pin connectors because sometimes on the pre-bought machines they do not have too many.

Here is what I would recommend if you have at least 2 6 Pins available:

Highest
R9 280 £175
or
R9 270X £140

Those would both be excellent cards with the 280 being the best and the 270X being right below it in terms of performance. Both would be a huge step up from an HD 5450.

Could anyone recommend one for me if they know a good one?

Unfortunately, I don't think that the B110 has an AGP or PCI-Express slot, and no I don't feel like buying an entirely new motherboard.

Is it possible to upgrade the built in Nvidia GeForce GT 745A card to one more suitable for gaming? I unstand it is alot of work and it's costly to install a graphics card in an AIO pc. If not, does anyone know how I can modify more of my settings to make games run smoothly? Many games run fine (such as GTA 5) but some are still choppy and have to be run at low settings (such as Forza Hotrizon 3).

What's the wattage of the power supply?

Hi, would like to know, what are my options, with regards to low-end graphics card?

I currently have "Mobile Intel 4 series express chip" Integrated graphics, and a 305W PSU.

Just wanted a budget graphics card, for running emulators and light end gaming. Need exact model numbers as I really havent a clue what Im looking for. Looking to spend about ?30 max, and probably get it second hand.

Thanks in advance

Not a lot of options, but see if you can get something like this locally Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R645D3-512I Radeon HD 6450 512MB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

All i need it for is to make my games run smoother and not crash so much. I don't have very much money so try to keep it cheap =)

Recently i posted a thread regarding upgrading a few things on my Pc. This is a side note from that. I currently have a Gefore FX5900 Nividia card. I want to upgrade to a faster newer card with at least pixel shading 2. I know that the PCI express cards are the go. Unfortunately i dont have a mother board that supports PCI -e so i have to go for a AGP card. What is the best and fastest card i can get ? Not stressed about the money. But whats the best. 6600 was mentioned by someone. Cheers in advance.

well here is one of the best ones, but really for that price with only agp slot it's not really worth it, because you will only see so much of a good speed boost

Currently have the GeForce 4, however, this is not compatible with Aero graphics with the new win 7 system. I have a 17" LED monitor I would like to use. Currently using a CRT. After viewing what I have what is the hot Graphics situation that will operate with my system. Keeping in mind the pocket book is frugal but sometimes a little more spent is cost effective in the long run. Not much of a gamer but love flight sims and such. Are there any other upgrades that should be considered?

Sounds very confusing because that board has an Agi Express slot but that appears to take a pci-x 16 card which you have selected.

Is it to play any specific game? Have you at any time upgraded your power supply? A higher end graphics card will require a power supply better then the stock HP one.

Also for any of the high end cards you will be limited by your processor.

Even up to $200 is fine, I just want it to work. Its an older computer so it probably cannot be a card that requires a lot of power. The specs off the Dell site are below.

I don't think that you have a PCI-E slot. Replacing / adding graphics cards to laptops is not possible in 95% cases. I suggest that you contact HP to find out if it's possible.

Your laptop does have an Express Card 54/34 expansion slot. However, I'm not sure if you can add a video card through it.

Hi,

I assembled my PC in mid 2010 and it's still runs OK for my purposes except that I feel that Firefox and other programs that I use feel somehow sluggish and I attribute this to the naive graphics card I'm using (AMD RADEON HD 5450) even with the latest Catalyst drivers. I picked this up on purpose because it has no fan (I'm not a gamer anyway).
Now that it's 2014, I'm asking a recommendation for a more powerful graphics card that uses no fan at all in order to enjoy more powerful graphics in Firefox, youtube, flash, photoshop,...etc without adding any extra noise.

Thanks in advance.

A:Better no fan graphics card for upgrade

I sort of doubt that it is your sluggish problem especially with Firefox. That could be due to your internet connection.

What size hard drive and is it close to being full? Do you defrag it periodically?

With that said, check out the Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT730 4GB.

A:Upgrade graphics card

yep, you can run a agp 8x in a agp 4x slot as long as the card says its backwards compatible

altho, with that huge bottleneck, i dont think its worth getting the 3850

my last system had a agp 4x slot, couldnt tell a difference at all when i upgraded my nvidia 5200 to a much better agp card.

save a couple of bucks and try the 3650 agp card, it also supports 4x/8x agp

Hi all

I've just decided to upgrade my desktop, which has 64bit capability/hardware, to win7 64 bit. It's part of me investing a small amount of cash in my desktop to make it really strong for another year or so before I retire it (hand it over to my Mom, haha) and upgrade to a strong laptop.

My question is: I have an NVidea 64bit board and an ASUS cpu--should I get an NVidea graphics card, or another brand will be just as good? Thanks.

Well, first off, there are only two companies that make CPU's, thats AMD and Intel. You probably have a Asus motherboard. Now, for you're question, you need to know if you have a 16x PCI-e port in your motherboard for a card, and, you need to tell us what you wanna do with the card.

If you play games, you need a good one. For HD video, it can be not that good, and for just browsing you dont really need one. If you wanna upgrade just for the show, go ahead, even if it wont do anything crucial.

Anyways, There are two companies that design Grahpics cards, thats Nvidia and ATI. These day's ATI has the most powerful cards, but for the more normal cards, either company is cool.
Hope this helps, Coolnes

Dimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches)

A:Best Graphics Card, I can upgrade to.

The best card you can get is the one you can afford. Just go to a higher series AMD card. Something in the 7000 series.

You can only put 1 video card on that board, it only has 1 PCI-Express slot

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c01925486

And you could always max out the memory to 16 GBs (but 8 GBs is fine)

But you might want to spend the money on a really good 550 to 650 watt Power Supply

Currently, I have a XFX GTS250 512MB Core Edition gpu in my computer and now some voice in my head tells me to upgrade a bit on this.
I have a bit of a tight budget at max R2000 and was wondering if a card like this would be an ample upgrade: http://titan-ice.co.za/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=51_143&products_id=5141

I have an idea that this the component causing some irritating lag in games, and I suspect that this will get worse when my new monitor arrive(a 27 inch) which will have larger res than my current 20inch 1600x900

I also prefer to run my games at the highest level possible, so tuning down the quality is not an option

Any comments, ideas etc etc are welcome

PS: Rest of specs is:
AMD Phenom II x4 3.2GHz;
Corsair 4gb ddr3 1333;
Running WinXP Pro

A:Graphics Card upgrade

I am running a GTX460 myself, I am a gamer and I find it quite a nice card. It isn't the best out there but it is pretty decent.

However, things you need to also consider are:

1) What PSU do you currently have, it may not be enough to support the new card as it will require more power to run it.
2) Using WinXP is limiting your graphics a bit as you can only use DirectX 9. DirectX 10 and 11 are Vista and Windows 7 only, so you are missing out on their improvements.

My son bought a packard bell 2389 2 months ago and wanted to upgrade the graphics card. He has bought saphire x1950 pro ATI Radion. Fitting instruction were unclear. Couldn't see where to connect power supply to card. Also how does he find out the power supply his computer has. Finally if the supply is not enough can you recommend one that will be compatable with the PC

Thanks

A:Graphics card upgrade

The power output of the power supply should be somewhere on the power supply. Usually the ones that manufacturers use are anywhere from 200 watts to 350 watts. (Not 100% sure).
None the less the best way to figure out which power supply you need is to see what is recommend for the card, and then get more then that.
As far as the connecting goes there should be a spare plug, but once again manufactures dont usually give extra because they want it to look clean. Just get an upgraded one from somewhere. Antec usually makes good power supplies, and power supplies should be universal.

Yes, you can put a graphic card on your mobo.

But, first thing. How much you want to spent? What power supply you have? We can suggest better if we get the answers.
