Preferred Solution: Buying new gaming PC (€1850)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Buying new gaming PC (€1850)

Everything looks pretty good. However, I feel that you could invest in a better video card like the Radeon HD 5870 instead of going with 8GB of RAM. 4GB should be good for now and you could add another 2 sticks later. You could also save some more cash by picking the X6 1055T instead of the BE.

Or stick with the current build and consider a second 5850 in the near future.

If you want my honest advice, just take what you like from each and build your own. you can build yourself a really decent system within that price range (and probably save some money too) and assembly is quite easy.

what OS are you planning to use btw?

Hello guys,

I have decided to buy a new computer. What do you guys think about these parts:

Motherboard: ASUS P5K (non-deluxe)
Graphics card: ASUS EN8800GT
CPU: Well I am not sure what to get here, should I go for Core2Duo Q6600, Core2Duo E6750 or E6700, or maybe something else?
RAM: 2GB Kingston
PSU: Not sure yet
HDD: 160GB or 300GB SeaGate/Maxtor

Well, i need opinions on the CPU and the Motherboard. I have used ASUS Mobos for years, and I am very satisfied, but I there are more models, I also noticed the P5B is a good one. Over the the computer shop, they said the P5K are newer and better ones . I would be grateful if you give some opinions.

Thanks for reading!

A:new to gaming PC's, need help buying

Hi mharoon and welcome to techspot

overall it looks like a decent system, but it won't be a good gaming computer. here's why

1. VIDEO CARD - The main component that's holding it back is the video card. the 7300LE is a low end card that's basically made for media PC's. you'll need something heftier than that. I just bought a 7600GT and I'm quite pleased with it, but it's still only a mid range card. you may want to get something better, be we'll need to know your budget first

something you may also want to consider is that DX10 cards will be out later this year (or early next year), and a few games will require a DX10 card to run. most games will still work on a DX9.0c card though

2. PSU - you'll need a better PSU than the "standard case power supply". unless you buy something like an Antec case which already has a decent PSU in it, you should buy a 400w for single video card, or 500w for SLI (or crossfire). if you buy from a reputible brand like Antec, Enermax, or Fortron then you can get a decent quality PSU with sufficient and stable power without breaking the bank.

3. RAM - it's not a requirement for gaming, but since you'll want to sqeeze as much performance as possible out of your rig, then you should consider getting higher end RAM instead of value series RAM. higher end RAM runs at tighter/faster timings.

4. CPU & Motherboard - while there's nothing wrong either of them, if you want more future-proofing then you should go socket AM2 (because unfortunately 939 is being phased out)

other that than it looks good to me :giddy:

cheers

Heya,

I have a budget of $2500 tops, and i am looking for a great gaming computer to be used for mostly MMORPG games such as World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online (When it comes out) and other games that need decent computers. With the cash Im spending, i will need a computer that can be upgraded in the future.

I know practically nothing about computers , so i need some assistance as to either Computers that are within that budget, or suggestions as to which specs the computer should have. I won't be building a computer because as i said before, i have no knowledge in that area.

Cheers for any comments
(p.s I would be happy to spend less than 2500 )

A:Buying a Gaming Computer

look for a machine with and AMD Phenom 64 processor, 2gigz of ram (upgadeable if you wish) and buy a nice video card (BFG 8800GTX or better. SLI is optional)

things like harddrive and DVD drives are personal preference. go google search Keen Machine PC's.

They do a wonderful job combining power, looks, and a great price on their gaming machines.

Im buying alot of stuff for a new computer. I wanted to ask if these parts would all work together and will it play all the latest games.

Asus M2A-VM Socket AM2 AMD690G + ATI SB600 Chipset Dual Channel DDR2 800/667/533 Integrated ATI X1250 Graphics Micro ATX

A-DATA DDR2 800 240pin 4GB Kit (2x2GB) Unbuffered-DIMM Non-ECC Memory

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (65W) Dual-Core Socket AM2

XFX GeForce 8800GT 512mb

and will this case fit with my motherboard
Antec Three Hundred Gaming Case ATX 3/0/(6) 2xUSB Audio No PS

A:Buying new gaming parts.

Not really sure on the overall setup, but something I will say is it may be worthwhile getting an aftermarket GPU cooler for that card.

I have an XFX 8800GT which is factory overclocked and had quite a few problems with it at first. After investigation it would appear they can (but not always) have problems when the GPU goes over 75C (which isnt uncommon on stock cooling, a lot of people had problems).

I stuck a Thermalright HR-03GT on mine with a 90mm fan and it runs like a dream now, maxing out at around 50-52C when stresstested.

Hey guys, I recently decided to upgrade my PC and was advised by "xcylent" that this would be the place to come for a good source of info (I need it). The new PC I'm after is going to be a gaming PC but I only have a budget of max $1200AUD. 90% of the time I use my computer for online games (battlefield 3, CSS and so on) and watching movies/videos. I'm not too fussed about upgrading my monitor, mouse and keyboard as I think I'll worry about that later in the year. I was wondering if I could get some advice on good setups within my price range so I don't buy the first rig offered to my blindly. Thanks in advance, Brad.

A:Buying a gaming rig, would appreciate any opinions

Who will you be using to buy the parts? We can suggest systems in your local currency then as they'll differ from USD prices.

Also, besides the keyboard, mouse and display, are you recycling any other parts from an existing build? e.g. DVD drive, hard drives, case or Windows license etc.

I got 1,500 that I'd like to put towards a laptop. Is it possible to purchase a laptop that could run games such as Farcry 2, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 and fallout 3. I know that some of the games mentioned have not been released yet. Would anybody have a clue as to what kind of laptop, that might run game such as Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 decently, and in that case can I buy a laptob for a price lower than the one mentioned.
Basically I am looking for a laptop that I can buy now for the price mentioned above. That would be able to run games released in the future, faster that say watching paint dry.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

A:Need help buying a new gaming computer

Hey its ReeD With aftermarket cooling etc. they mean that whether will need a,better, fan on your CPU (processor) or if you would need watercooling to,keep,it cool. This is only if,you want to overclock your CPU. For motherboard,I would have a look at the Asrock extreme3 gen3 ans whether,it fits,in your budget. Also, you might, want to figure out if,you want a SSD, this might be a bit expensive Nd not fit in your budget. If youare planning to,buy a (small) SSD, get a z68 mothefboard, otherwise a P67 will do

Out of the above 3 choices, the second one seems the best bet. Although you could save a few bucks and get the Phenom II X4 965 BE instead of the PII X6 1055T. The HD 5850 is definitely theway to go.

Haven't posted in a while. Well college is coming around and i NEED a laptop, I'll use it for notes, papers, projects, and homework, but that's not what I'm worried about

I'm very OCD about what I buy. I have around 1200-1500 to spend, and i want the best bang for my buck. I want a gaming laptop, that's at least somewhat solid, what am I looking at with that price range?

A:buying laptop for school/gaming help?

You're going to need more money for a good gaming laptop.

Ok I did a little searching and I found a list of mobile video devices.

Nvidia GeForce Go7600
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
ATI Mobility Radeon X1700
Nvidia GeForce 8400M-GT
Nvidia GeForce Go7700
Nvidia GeForce Go7600GT
Nvidia GeForce 8600M-GS
Nvidia GeForce 8600M-GT
Nvidia GeForce Go7800
ATI Mobility Radeon X1800
Nvidia GeForce 8700M-GT
Nvidia GeForce Go7900GS
ATI Mobility Radeon X1900
Nvidia GeForce Go7800GTX
ATI Mobility Radeon X1800XT
Nvidia GeForce Go7900GTX
Nvidia GeForce Go7950GTX

Look for a laptop that you can afford with at least one of the above, 2GB of memory for Windows Vista and the mobility processor of your choice. The farther you go down the list the faster and more expensive the video will be. All the recognized brand names I saw where $2000.00 and up.

Hey guys, want a faily decent/high end gaming pc, willing to spend about 1000.

Mate suggested one for me.. What do you guys think? These are the specs.

- Intel Core i7-2600
- ASUS P8Z77-V LX
- 8GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz
- 1.25GB GEFORCE GTX 570
- 1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s

Would that run most current games on the market at high settings? ( or medium for really graphic-hungry games )

Please send some suggestions my way. Also need some websites to have a look at for gaming pcs/parts. Thanks!

Desktop icon doesn't really tell us much.

What icon are you talking about?

The only thing I can tell from the thumbnail is that the Taskbar is at the top of the desktop.  Is this your problem?

If this is the problem right click in a clear area in the Taskbar and click on Properties.  There is a box titled Taskbar location on screen, this will give you the options for its location.

I'm currently in the market to buy a new wireless router and adapter for my home network. As of right now I have a Linksys WRT110 router and a Linksys WMP54GS in the only wireless client on the network. This client serves for basic computing and gaming. The client only gets about a ~60% connection to the router at any given time when it's only around 50 feet away from the router with a wall separating the two. My apartment building is an old remodeled warehouse with alot of steel reinforcements and such, so that may be a reason for weak signal, I'm really not too sure. So I need a router/adapter that has good range and is solid for gaming in this kind of environment. Thanks in advance.

A:Buying new wireless router/adapter for gaming

is there any way to possibly hard-wire the setup? non-wireless LAN connections are the absolute best when it comes to gaming. just throwing that out there as CAT cable is relatively cheap (compared to some of the better routers) and doesn't depend on signal strength; is easy to run through walls and such. you would also be able to keep the current router configured in the network.

if you need to go wireless, the latest wireless-n technology is the way to go, but you'll need a wireless-n adapter to get full n speeds. in other words you can use b/g adapters with a wireless-n router but it will not operate at wireless-n speeds. i'm not typically fussy about wireless routers, but it depends on what your client is willing to spend and availability. most of the newer Linksys routers are fine.

Hi, looking to buy/build a new gaming computer and was wondering if some people could give me some advice or good sights to look at. Also I live far up north, so canadian websites/links would be preferred or just personal advice/preference. I was just looking at alienware stuff and some of the main brand name comp deals, I've upgraded PC's a bit, but never built from scratch before. Basically I want to know what the best route to go with would be for good price and performance on either building from scratch and, or ordering one pre-built.

I appreciate any advice from people who know their stuff on this, also wondering if this is the best place on the forum for this thread if not let me know... thanks.

A:Buying/Building gaming computer advice

When your building a computer (BEST WAY TO GO) first you shoud find a store near by to supply you.. I am also canadian, and i would go to microbytes, order something like

AMD 5000+ X2(DUAL CORE) (OR HIGHER)
2GB RAM
256MB GRAHPICS (AVERAGE FOR GAMING) RECCOMEND 512MB
250GB HDD (OR HIGHER)
ASUS MOTHERBOARD
DVD RW DRIVE
55O WATT POWER SUPPLY

or you can order all your parts for pretty cheap on www.newegg.com ---- or www.tigerdirect.com

A:Buying new (gaming) laptop, need backlit keyboard

A 3 by 5 backlight would only cover about half of your keyboard, so if you go this route you might want to get two of them. Also there is a chance that the EL backlight will not fit behind the keyboard. If you are set on getting the laptop, I would do that before you buy all these parts for the backlight.

(does "Dual-View Capability" mean it's Dual Graphics?)
If i'm correct, you can have 2 monitors going.

(What will I need this for? A WIRELESS 802.11B/G ACCESS POINT)
WAP is an encryption method. WAP2 is the better one. WEP is so-so.

A:Buying Parts For Building a Gaming Desktop

Don't get Velociraptor. Get a 1TB WD Black instead.
Caching drive: uses the HDD for files, but stores commonly-accessed stuff on the SSD.
For best performance, get an SSD and use it for OS and core productivity programs. Then store games/media/documents on the HDD.
Don't need additional LAN card.
Why are you buying an additional audio card? It's nice, but your mobo comes with a decent one to begin with.
It's probably cheaper to get TWO dual-channel 2x 8GB RAM kits, instead of the quad-channel one.
Maybe spend a little more on CPU cooler, since you're getting the top GPU too. May I suggest a ~$100 all-in-one water cooling kit.
120GB SSDs are better value these days.

Hello:I have searched for many hours and seen this problem in some form or fashion reported. However, I don't ever see an actual solution. I recently purchased a Pavilion 550-150qe and the pulled a Hauppauge card from another Pavilion and placed it into the new system. No matter what I do it will not recognize the Hauppauge card, in the PCI-E slot. I read in places that this new motherboard wouldn't support this card unless the BIOS is updated. I checked and my BIOS seems to be updated. It is currently A0.09. I am running Windows 10 64bit and this Hauppauge card is model 1850, which Hauppauge is no longer supporting. Any hints or suggestions, are greatly appreciated. Thankskp

A:WinTV-HVR-1850 product issues

maybe you just need to change your display properties? i think you can set them up to display seperate desktops.
also, there is a new ATI driver out. you might want to update that first, before changing display settings

Would it be possible to use a dell poweredge 1850 as a desktop computer?

A:Using Dell Poweredge 1850 as desktop?

Its a computer so yea you can, you can install a normal windows version on it and run it as a basic computer. I had a family member who bought a cheap server from dell and did the exact same thing just because it was cheaper at the moment than the desktop options (It was a pretty low end machine).

Has anyone had any problems with Brother hl-1850's? I have two ladies at work here that both have those printers. One is hooked up via USB and the other Parallel. For the last few months they have been having the same problem, they go to print and the computer locks up. It is caused by the print spooler. Once I terminate the spooler service, everything pops all up. If I restart the spooler it works fine for a bit. Eventually I have to delete the printer and reinstall it. The weird thing is that this happens about once a month and it happens to both of them within the same day.

I have tried both PCL and PS drivers and one is hooked up with USB and the other Parallel. Brother doesn't have the best support, so I was wondering if anyone else knows of this issue.

Thanks

Matt

I am being cheap and trying to load an XP OS on a Dell 1850 that I bought from a church (it was donated to them). It was ordered and shipped with no OS. I have managed to get windows 2000 on it. I want XP so I can actually use the internet! I have a Dell XPpro system disk from a machine I don't use anymore, but it doesn't have the RAID driver for my system. I have the CD with the driver, but the installation disk is looking for it on a floppy, which I do not have. Any help for this poor cheap ******* in Nebraska who was doing his brother a favor by buying a computer with no OS?

Hi Guys This is my very first post on Windows Vista Forums and Ultimate 64-bit Gaming Windows Vista and Gaming Compatibility I am eager to get into this thread First off Windows Vista Ultimate is the very best you can buy for gaming This features the bit OS version which can process GB of RAM at top speeds you can find in a new OS I would definitely recommend this OS for gaming and none other Now on to the main part of my thread Compatibility Gaming This is the most discussed issue for gamers across the US The problem is how do you get games to work specifically older games on Windows Vista Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Gaming and Compatibility Gaming Ultimate Well there are solutions You could wait until the company of the game makes a OS patch for the game although that could take a while You could go into the game files and put the game into compatibility mode for your OS And You could revert back to an older OS that works for your game Which one would you choose I would choose They are always going to make games work on a newer OS Lets take the game Lord of The Rings Battle for Middle Earth amp Electronic Arts EA has already made a patch for those two that will have more chance of running on Vista If doesn't work then it's the type of computer hardware you are using The hardware would guarantee be outdated In that case just get more recent hardware It's not that difficult With a bit of research common sense and problem solving skills you can get gaming compatibility issues out of your hair I hope this thread has helped a couple of you out there Sincerely alienware Think I helped you out Click the scales Give me some rep Thanks

A:MSI Z170a Gaming 3 or GTX 960 GAMING 100ME Issue?

7-31-2016 Update

Well no one replied yet to my post but I did some more testing and the result is as follows.

I did some more troubleshooting and cleared the CMOS, swapped monitors, tried another HDMI cable and reinstalled the 960 into the new build for testing but it still did not solve the issue. Still locked at 800X600 with error code 43 (Windows disable the device because of problems) in device manager and I'm concerned about how the card itself boots and lights the RED VGA led on the MSI board. I retested it in that PC that has the 600watt PSU and an Asrock board and while it did work at a higher resolution the card behaves suspiciously during powerup as.

1. Power on All Fans and MSI logo light up.... Monitor is Blue (active)
2. 5 seconds later MSI logo goes off... fans still spinning.....Monitor is Amber (No Signal)
3. 15 seconds later MSI logo comes on......Monitor goes Blue (active)
4. Once Windows loads fans stop spinning. (Normal)

**Note** This is similar to the way it boots in the problem system (no RED led on Asrock board)

So 20 seconds total to initiate a stable signal to me is problematic and this is on the test PC not the one I built BUT I still can't rule out a problem with this MSI motherboard as that RED VGA led still comes on for a few seconds when the GTS 450 is in there (even though it works fine) and I can't find an answer to if that's normal. Sent a "support" request to MSI and their reply was "Try the card in another system and try another card in your problem system" lol. They must not read carefully as this was already covered....hahaha.

So... I need some suggestions besides those I tried and if anyone has a MSI Z170a Gaming 3 board can you please post your startup sequence and let me know if it lights the RED VGA led light on startup?

My initial thought is as this is new machine i would return it to place of purchase as something is obviously not right, if you wish to look into this then...
Have a read of this thread it will give you some things to try

A:Building a Gaming Computer Gaming Low budget. Help.

The only thing that's missing is the power supply (the "PSU"), but we should wait until you select a CPU and video card - especially the video card. The PSU is an investment, so we have to make sure it's a good one.

Anyway,

RAM:

Go for a 2 x 4 GB kit or 2 x 8 GB kit. Your only choice right now is DDR3. The cost can vary from roughly $50 USD give or take $10-$20 to almost $200 USD and more.

CPU:

Which i5? 2nd Generation, 3rd Generation, or 4th Generation Core i5? The cost should be at around $200 give or take $10 to $20 USD.

Video card:

Try to avoid being loyal to one side or the other (NVIDIA or AMD) because some AMD GPUs are way better, but some NVIDIA GPUs are better.

The 128bit or 256bit is the bandwidth of the memory. The higher the number, the faster the memory can be in some ways.

The amount of memory you'd want is about 2GB, yeah. The more the merrier, but it mostly benefits textures.

You can go for any video card you want, but the GT 640 might not be an appreciable upgrade from the 410m. You'll notice it, but I dunno...

HDD:

Yeah, this is a little bit of a personal thing because take me for example: I have two 60 GB solid state drives and it's all I need. One is for Windows and programs, and the other is for things like My Documents and even my desktop.

Like the power supply, the hard drive is a bit of an investment, so try to get good ones.

Motherboard:

Not really. I would also like to see you build it instead of making someone do it for you. That way, you can make sure it's done right the first time. You won't need to know how to do anything because you can lean on us.

I also recommend posting this thread over on Overclock.net, but make it clear that you're not overclocking. They are very good at building computers.

A:BSOD with Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX970 in SLI while gaming

I've been having a very similar issue, I've only got the one Gigabyte 970 G1, and I've only really tested 2 games (AC Unity and Civ Beyond Earth) and while playing both after usually a few hours they'll freeze then I'll get a bsod. They're always Bug Check Code: 0x00000124 and all have the Crash Address: ntoskrnl.exe+4ae61c.

I've run windows memory diagnostic with no results, I've reseated my card, performed multiple clean driver installs, checked temperatures with no problems. I can't figure out what's causing it and this is the only similar problem I can find online. I really wish I could help but it seems we're in much the same boat

hello, Lazzi and welcome to the forums. I'll try to help you, but would you please upload the BSOD Posting Instructions here. I can't download the file you linked to without an account, plus we prefer them here. This will tell you how. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Also, please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

And also give as detailed a description as you can about your hardware including the Case, PSU and CPU Cooler, and place them in your system specs. These are the instructions I usually give and maybe it will help you.

Please fill out your System Specs

Hello and welcome to TSF and thanks for the compliment.

I think this is your RAM. I need you to do a test...

Please download http://www.memtest.org// It's saved as an iso so you need to burn it to a cd and boot with it(yes it's legal). Make sure you run it for each stick, as in taking every stick but one then switching. I would recommend running them overnight(each).
You may want to dust your ram carefully!
Make sure you get no finger prints on the RAM as it may damage it.

So over the past couple of weeks i've been getting alot of BSoD while gaming on my laptop, the most common being failure to reset display drivers.
It seems to be a driver problem but I've tried re-installing them and it hasn't had an effect.
I wasn't sure how to properly do a fresh install so if someone could recommend a way of doing a fresh install.
Also more recently my GPU hasn't been appearing on my device manager randomly, but after a reset it comes back.
I've attached the dump files following the guides, not sure if I have done it properly though.
Help would be appreciated soon as I don't want this ?1000 laptop to die

A:Various BSoD while gaming and some randomly while not gaming.

Yeah, you are having problems with the Nvidia driver.

Your msinfo.32 shows that as disabled though, that could just be at the time the report was created.

Where did you get that driver, it appears to be a beta driver from Nvidia.

Have you tried just using the driver from the manufacturer? They usually modify drivers for their hardware.

I can see it is an older driver but that may be your best option,

MSI Global GT70 0NC 64

How is your laptop cooling? Have you made sure the cooling vents are clean?

All that being said, here is a useful guide for Nvidia drivers,

NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

Try cleaning your laptop vents and doing a clean install of the driver from MSI to see if it makes a difference.

If you still want to do a clean install, this tutorial can help with that,

hey i was wondering if you could help me with a small problem ive been having. i use a 8600gt on vista ultimate and have been using it for 1 year, but ive experienced a much slower gaming experience on games like cod 5 and gta 4 with vista ultimate and windows aero, yet when i reverted to using xp my problems were solved, but since windows vista basic doesnt use aero, would the gaming experience be any different on vista basic than it is on windows xp? thanks a bunch , raiyan =)

A:Vista gaming vs Xp gaming

Well i read that only the vista can use the all power of the new directx, so it should be better for games, anyway Windows Vista is heavier than the XP, even if you disable the Aero. How many RAM do u have?

Hi and thxs for entering to this topic. plz help me looking for the best or very good gaming parts for my pc try to make my pc operative for 100% games at max setts.
My pc now is way outdated, i only have $1600.

PC specs now:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Dual Cpu 1.60ghz perfomance rate at 2.4ghz
Mainbord: Intel D945gcnl
Memory:1016mb (1gb)
Video Card: Intel 82945g (128mb) is almost not having a video card
Hard Drive: 160gb

A:Help me upgrading my not for gaming pc to a gaming pc!

if what you are saying is that you want to upgrade your old machine....i would not attempt to do do that. with $1600 you can build a gaming behemoth that will play anything on max settings. this is about $1100 which leaves you plenty for a 24" monitor and CD/DVD drive if you need them. you could also add a SSD if you want to improve load times as well. The GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P also has 2 PCIE slots for a future Crossfire/SLI upgrade. Also, if your not in a huge hurry, you might want to wait until March to see how the GF100's perform.

Hi there. I'm getting a new Dell 17" LCD monitor soon that has a resolution of 1280x1240 (or something like that) and a 12ms response time , but it has no DVI port. Does this really matter? and how good is the 12ms response time?

I use the computer mainly for surfing website, development and some graphic design with photoshop and maybe flash soon. I might play games sometime but it's less likley. And i'm probably going to go dual screen soon.

and again , do i need a DVI? and how would the 12ms response time be?
thanks in advance

A:buying a new LCD need a little help

For your use, the 12ms response time will be just fine. I have two 19" monitors on this system, one a 25ms one, and one a 12ms one. I don't see any difference in my development use. You don't need DVI, though I'd be tempted to buy one with a dual interface so that you can run either. Also, many adapters have DVI and VGA, so it makes connecting dual monitors easy, one DVI and one VGA.

Sometimes true... but you may find a big anomaly between the X2 and X3. Weird things can happen. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's web site to see if both X3 and X2 are supported. Remember, you have chipset software to worry about as well.

If you can afford to get a 120 GB SSD you will not be sorry. You can put Win 7 and your programs on it. It will give you a big boost in the speed of opening the programs.

A:Help on buying a new PC

Hey Matt and welcome to Techspot!

Ignore the rumors about 64-bit CPU. You can get AMD 64 (either socket 754 or 939) you will get best games out of it BUT Intel Pentium 4 2.8C ghz with HT (1mb L2 cache) perform better for multi-tasking and games too. (both socket 478 and 775). If you want a budget gaming pc for under a grand. My suggestion is get Intel Celeron 540. Use a stick or two of 512MB or more Dual-Channel PC3700. <still cheap but strong> CPU and ram should cost you close to between of $275 to $400.

I am about to upgrade to a new GFX card and PSU next month due to experiencing temperature and power related issues with my existing GFX card(ASUS EN9600GT 512Mb DDR3) and PSU(Trust 570W Pro Duel Fan PSU). My budget for both PSU and GFX card is 250-300. I use my PC mainly for gaming and have a duel monitor setup. Can anyone recomend a sutable GFX Card and PSU in or around my price range please? My specs E8500, P5N32E-SLI, 4Gb DDR2.

Frankly, you're not going to get much better for that budget. 9600gt is in that range of cards. I personally wouldnt even go with the 4850.

I' m wondering if I should buy this PC:

Athlon XP 1800+
Elitegroup K755A Mainboard (266 FSB)
256 MB Infineon DDR RAM
60 GB IBM HD UDMA-100 7200U
16x40 DVD-Rom
32x12x40 CDRW Burn Proof
NVIDEA Geforce 4 MX 64 MB DDR TV (if I buy the PC I will replace it with a Geforce 3 Ti 500 or a Geforce 4 Ti 4200)

1. I ran 3Dmark 2001 in the shop and it only got 5300 points.
Is this only due to the crummy video card or is there something
wrong with the whole system?

2. Can I use the PC 133 memory of my old PC in the new one?

Obviously whether you buy this machine depends on how much you are going to pay for it... The spec looks OK to me although I don't know anything about Elitegroup motherboards.

If you are benchmarking the system, it is a good idea to make sure that all the latest drivers are installed in the machine (I doubt they will be if it's shop built) to make the most of it... although the GFX card might be the limiting factor there (More memory might help too).

If the Motherboard is DDR, you will not be able to use your old pc133 sdram (U can send it to me if you want....) Why would you want to do this anyway? - you have DDR in the new system.

Hope this helps, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong....

p.s. Just noticed that this is my 300th post.....Yippee!!

A:Buying a new rig

Looks like quality parts to me.

Is there a 64 mb cache version of those Samsung drives?? Just a minor point.

I didn't look at the case specs, but you might consider aftermarket case fans as the supplied fans are often noisier than they need to be for the amount of air they move. I'd make sure the case will accept 120 mm fans.

Are you sure the mobo has all the ports you need?? eSATA for instance?

Is that Seasonic modular?? You might consider their X series modular 560 or 650 watt models if it is not modular.

I am contemplating a fresh install of XP. I do not currently have the disk that came with my PC, so will need to buy. I do currently have a valid, working (for the most part) copy of XP Home edition on PC. WhicH copy do I need to buy?

Windows XP Home Edition SP2 - $224.95

or

Windows XP Professional Upgrade SP2 - $89.95

Sorry if this is a moronic question. I'm hoping the cheaper purchase would work. Please keep in mind that the whole purpose of my doing this is to start with a fresh clean copy of XP. So if the upgrade will work but not give me a clean install, it would be worthless to me.

Thanks much.

A:Buying XP

Actually, you don't need to buy either. If XP came with your system, there is a Windows sticker somewhere on it that has your Product Key. That's really what you're buying. You can borrow a Windows XP installation CD from anyone and use it. Just make sure the version of the CD matches the type of product key you have (XP Home)

Best,

Hello @cherokeeray? Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. If you have some specific issue, this can probably be fixed - don't loose hope. Internet is great. Please provide details about the issue as well as your HP computer model >> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/First-Time-Here-Learn-How-to-Post-and-More/Advice-for-asking-the-quot-V...   Windows Update/upgrade is not mandatory - especially Windows 7 it can easily be stopped. You are not forced to update Windows / upgrade to Windows 10.If you are not happy with Windows OS - there are some alternatives like GNU/Linux - Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, etc...You need a new computer only if this one has stopped working, there are some specific issues or your PC is really too old so that it can't run modern OS/applications.

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

My brother-in-law is in the market for a new p.c.
He went to Besy Buy to shop around - found a comp he likes. The sales guy told him that he needs a surge protector with a backup battery that will run the p.c. for 30 minutes in the event of a power failure.

He also said that with new computers a regular surge protector is not enough. He said the warranty will be void if he does not buy the battery backup surge protector. He said all new 2.* processor computers need this feature.

Is this true? I have never heard of such a thing. I am curious if the sales man is handing my Bro-in-law a line of crap.

Sorry if this is the wrong area to ask this type of question, but it seemed appropriate to me.

Thanks for the info.

Hi,

I consider buying Win 10 Home FPP(not upgrading from older Win) with licence for one computer.
If understand licencing correctly when remove I win10 from one computer(in case of retail lic.) I should be able to install it on another one.
1. Can this be done without calling to Microsoft and explaining them all the details?
2. How many times can this be done without getting into any troubles like expiring licence or calling MS?

In short I want to buy win10 and want to know how many times I can upgrade motherboard or buy a new computer without windows getting me any troubles.
