CPU for a non-gaming system

Q: CPU for a non-gaming system

Hello, and thank you in advance.

I'm building a computer for my Dad, and need help choosing the CPU/motherboard. He will only use it for internet browsing, email, youtube, office etc. No gaming whatsoever.

I'm assuming a CPU with built in graphics is best. I've only built higher end gaming machines, and know very little about integrated graphics.

So my question is, what is the best cpu/motherboard combo that isn't overkill for a simple system like this?

Preferred Solution: CPU for a non-gaming system

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: CPU for a non-gaming system

I will assume there are no CPU intensive application. And with the assumption make a statement that there are no PC configurations today that will not suffice for these needs.

Anything with dual cores or more should be fine for these needs. If this wasn't the case, people wouldn't be buying tablets for the same purposes.

A:BSOD, system stalls, and system reboots during gaming

I can find very little info pertaining to the system crashes/BSODs.Crash dumps are apparently not being created: The reason is not clear, as the system settings are configured to record and save the dumps. It will therefore be necessary for you to record and post details that you see on-screen of the BSOD error messages. Please disable "automatic restart on system failure":How To Disable the Automatic Restart on System Failure in Windows 7When the system crashes, it will not re-start: Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.
Record the error message details (contained in the areas outlined in red, in the above example image), and post in a reply. It does seem likely that there may be a serious hardware issue and the system is unable to record and save the crash dumps. I would like to know whether or not you actually do get to see a BSOD error message at all.

A:My first gaming system

Why only 2gb of ram? Looks like you're creating the ultimate gaming machine.

Ultra is not the best of brands for a PSU. I'd go with a Thermaltake, PC Power & Cooling, or Seasonic.

Also make sure there are 64-bit drivers available for all the components.

Note: Some games may not work well on a 64-bit OS. Check with the game publishers.

Probably been asked a million times already but here it goes.
I'm going to be upgrading my system soon, don't do much but game on it.
Question I have is Dual Core vs solo I'm looking at either Intel Pentium D 805 (2.66 GHz)(64bits) or Intel Pentium 4 524 (3.06 GHz) (775) (64 Bit)
Just wondering what people think is the Dual core worth the extra money and does it really make enough of a difference to justify it.
thanks.

A:Gaming System

The dual core is worth it but you're looking at the wrong processor unless your motherboard doesn't support the newest Intel processors. You should be looking at the Intel Core 2 Duo's. They are much faster then the Pentium D's and run a lot cooler.

What motherboard do you have, or do you plan on changing it? And what do you currently have for a computer now?

Can you please point me to the best I can get/best value?

A:Help for a new gaming system

Gigabyte motherboard (better reliability and tech support). Kingston memory (without Value in the name) at www.zipzoomfly.com will save you enough money for a better video card.
AMD will save you money in processor, but the performance of Intel right now is worth it.
Decide first on your processor and video card, then the motherboard, then the memory.

Considering its going to be an i7 rig, even 2 7900GT's wouldnt be able to effectively keep up, sadly due to this era of Graphics cards changing to directx11, it is very hard to find a nice GPU that fits perfectly with peoples wallets.
I keep recommending this specific card to people for some reason. EDIT: I own the Sappphire version, but I couldn't find it on the site.
(Nothing to do with me owning one )
nVidia don't have any DX11 cards out yet, so I guess I can't recommend one without feeling a little guilty later. (Because DX11 looks damn good)

A:Building a gaming system for $800... help!

You could go either the Intel or the AMD route, and there will be people who will suggest you go in different suggestions. Currently the newest Intel CPUs (the core 2 duo lineup) is the best CPU on the market in just about every way.

However, with AMDs price drops they are still is competitive and sometimes the better choice at the low budget level.

The choices you have listed above are... all over the place and incompatible with each other!! lol. You have AGP cards, PCI-e cards, socket 939 boards, AM2 boards...

Here (in my opinion) is the first thing we need to know before anyone can help. You said:

I want to build a computer that will alow me to play multiple games and do my homework at the same time.Click to expand...

What exactly do you want to be able to do? When you say gaming, what are the names of the games you play? Are we talking some online flash based smurf game, or first person shooters? This will greatly change your system if you need a gaming graphics card for today's newer games. What software do you use for your homework?

Also, I'd have a new mousepad, and headset. And a card reader.

Hey guys, first of all, im new so here by id like to say hi ^^ Anyway the reason why i decided to post here is because i have a question about a system im putting together.
Its a budget gaming system, well budget... the graphcards costed me some anyway these are the specs:

Motherboard: MSI 790GX-G65
Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 550 3.10 GHz, 3600 MHz, 2x 512kB , 6 MB, Boxed
Graphic card: Foxconn GeForce 8800 GT
RAM: Adata 2GB DDR3

Well... that are the specifications. What do you all think, is this a pretty good gaming system, so i can play for example crysis on high or call of duty modern warfare 2 and such?

Regards,

Erwin

A:Budget gaming system

From what I can tell you should be able to run Crysis on high. Im running a system with similar specs than that and have maxed out the graphics on Cyrsis and still ran at a very playable frame rate.
Im running:

Intel E8400 (3.0Ghz) OCC to 3.6ghz
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R
OCZ DDR2 2 gig Dual channel kit
EVGA 9800GT 512MB - OCC a bit

But even with nothing OCC was able to run Crysis with no troubles.

Thats my 2 cents .

As for how good those brands/parts are I have no clue.

A:How do I turn my PC into a gaming system?

What kind of motherboard do you have? It'd let everyone know just how much you can upgrade it.. But I honestly think you should get a whole new computer. I can't see your motherboard being able to take any Quad-Core (or more) processors. Merely a guess atm though.

If you don't know your motherboard-- http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ --just download that and it will tell you.

If you do get a new computer you can safe your hard drive, cd-drom, power supply and case and save a few bucks. So all you'd really need is a Motherboard/CPU/GPU.. The power supply is a maybe, It depends on how many watts it is and what kind of connectors it has. Another thing you could let us know.

You can either build your own or buy a pre-built one. For the past few weeks I've been having some majorly irritating problems with my system completely crashing, losing signal to my monitor, and losing my audio signal. Yet my all of my system fans and front LEDs continue working, but the system will not respond or do anything until I force it off. Note this only happens when I'm playing an intensive game. Any other time my system runs perfectly fine. I've reinstalled my video card drivers thinking that it may have been a malfunction with them, but that wasn't the case. It seems like something overheats. Any ideas on what is wrong?
(Turns out my video card was a lemon. Sent it in to Evga for an RMA, and its been working fine ever since)

I have a problem, when I play some games my system sometimes just hangs. I keep seeing the same image on the screen(the last frame my pc showed). Then I have to reset my pc. when my pc starts back up I get this message: Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. and it shows this info:

Problem signature:

A:Is this system upgrade is well for gaming?

The Pentium 4 should give you a noticeable improvement in gaming, but I'm not sure getting a new Motherboard will make that much difference to performance, unless you're into overclocking your components (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong guys). But thinking about it, what chipset is on your old board, and on your intended board (i.e. nforce3/4 etc)? Is your Graphics card AGP 4x? And which Graphics cards slots are on the intended board?

Alot of people seem to really hate Norton products but I ve used their AV software for solution for system Best AV gaming a a very long time and don t understand why people are so against it It doesn t actually seem to do much ever and that to me is actually a good thing Only very rarely I get a taskbar notification that it has blocked something but other than that it s almost completely quot silent quot That being said I try to remain open to trying new things and am very curious to know what other people use I d like to know what various software people use in addition to what plugins like ad blockers and script blockers etc Mostly I d like to hear from gamers because I m starting to wonder if perhaps Norton AV has been interfering with me having the best possible gaming experiences all these years I always seem to have some kind of performance issues but until just recently they were so small and subtle that they never killed the experience for me If anything just small stutters now and again maybe an audio crackle here and there things like that Lately though on my latest build almost every game I play seems to stutter alot and I m thinking my choice of AV could be part of the problem i k not OC ed yet x gb ddr Asus Z -AR Samsung EVO gb boot Corsair CX M Win Thanks Best AV solution for a gaming system in advance for any feedback nbsp

A:Best AV solution for a gaming system

I trust multiple online AV review sites. Norton rates low a majority of the time for one thing or another.

Not being a Norton user I can't tell you what currently annoys me about their product.

There are many free alternatives that work just as well or in many cases better

Hey all,

Im being very very lazy, and looking for a Pre-built system for gaming. I really want a new monitor, speakers and keyboard also (keyboard not as important as other two).

My budget is £700 and so far ive found I can do it under budget via Overclockers.co.uk (but ive heard bad things about the site, so am quite dubious), and also the following: http://www.arbico.co.uk/Arbico-CD-4850-Custom-Built-Gaming-PC-Advisor-Best-Buy-Budge-p-18291.html.

Anybody know any Uk based companies where I could get a decent gaming pre-built system for around £700 (can go over/under by some)?

Deus Alias (working title)

My intention is to build a system that I can effectively use as a final system. It would replace my current laptop for gaming and general use.I'll admit I'm not really a major PC gamer - while having a large collection due to SteamSales I mostly end up playing on my Wii U (I have a minor buying addiction) and so would at bare minimum have something that handles what I throw at it, even if it isn't the best possible. It would be my first proper gaming system (and my second built system) - and I admit I am uncertain about if I've chosen the correct components and such. I'm undecided on the GPU and might go for the new AMD RX 480, and I have no idea how to choose from the 100+ PSUs that seemingly meet the requirements.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I just built a new PC with the following config:
- i5 2500k (no OC)
- ASUS P8Z68 pro/gen3
- Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti (no OC)
- CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W

Now when i am playing games my PC will freeze and i have to shut it down. It happens about 25 mins after playing Battlefield 3, and after about 1-1/2 hours after playing FIFA 2012 (not very GPU-intensive).

I have updated the GPU driver. I searched online and it seems ppl only have such problem when they overclock the GPU.

I used GPU-z to monitor the temperature and it looks alright. Does it look like a GPU or PSU problem? And any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks a lot!

A:Is this a good gaming system?

Since you're already spending so much (and can afford spending more) and assuming you want the system to last a while down the road, get a 45nm quad-core CPU like the Q9450.

Also, the Maximus II Formula is a Crossfire board. Get the GA-EP45-DS3L instead IMO. Gigabyte's build quality is better than ASUS from what I've seen and Gigabyte's boards are less fussier about RAM than ASUS'. That being said, I have an ASUS P5E3 and it's been rock-solid so far, but I paid a lot of money for it (since I wanted 1600MHz DDR3 RAM to match my CPU's FSB) and I suspect that is why I have yet to suffer any major problems.

As for your case, get a big one with lots of room like the Cooler Master Stacker 832. I have one and it is HUGE! It has a lot of room for a water cooling setup, as well as a very robust air-cooling system.

Lastly, don't cheap out on the PSU. The Zalman is good, but an 850W PSU with only 60A on the +12V rail isn't really that great. I'd recommend the superior PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 or the Corsair TX750W. Also, keep in mind that you don't really need such a powerful PSU and that a good-quality 650W PSU such as the Corsair TX650W or the Antec NeoPower 650W will be enough, since you don't plan on having a dual-card setup.

I have two ATI AIW cards (7500 and 9600) and my experiences tell me that a. ATI cards work best with the initial set of drivers included on the CD. b. Every attempt to use drivers which are purported to be "updates" is probably going to bring some irritation. One thing you can do is look in Event Viewer for errors which indicate problems with the system. Double-click on any error to see the detail info for such. Post any that appear to be pertinent to your situation. What is the Event Viewer, and Should I Care - Ask Leo! - http://ask-leo.com/what_is_the_event_viewe...uld_i_care.html The two errors that you posted are each pretty common. Take a look:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330187http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314063Both errors are somewhat typical of driver problems on the system. The ati3duag.dll has a history, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=a...G=Google+SearchLouisAnd never let WinUpdate determine what video drivers you download/install . WinUpdate does fine on critical updates but not-so-hot on drivers, IMO.A working driver is similar to a working BIOS, in my world. Leave it alone if it's working and nothing is to be gained by changing.

A:Building a new Xtreme gaming system. Need a lil help

Blumey, extreme yes! Thibk its safe to say that should keep you going for the forseeable at least.
Depending on your budget, a couple of suggestions. The mem you could up to 1066 Mhz, if the mobo will take it- I know a lot has been written on this, but personally I did a fair few tests, and found it gives about 5-10% increase, depending what its used for. You may want to look fo rSLI reay mem too- this can give a slight boost.
For the CPU a Q6600 will oveclock significantly, and can come pretty close to a stock 9650, so theres a maybe saving there.
As for hard drives, Very much a personal choice, but Idont find that the hi speed raps give a hge amount of benefit, even raided, over a normal 7200 disk. However, any increase is an increase.

As for themobo, I use a BFG 880i SLI. To date, it has behaved wonderfully, has oc options away and above what I need, and runs stable. Not the cheapest, newest or best board out, but as a recomendaton, I would use it again happily.
Simarly, the BFG 8800 range come in an OC2 version, which is a factory overclocked card. In price, these are not too far off other 8800s, but will give a fair boost to any system (oced by about 60 mhz, as i recall), and i did find it was slightly faster. They also happen to run well with the BFG mobo.

Yes. If you intend to game and or overclock, the stock intel hsf is marginal at best. The coolermaster 212 does a very good job of cooling AND it is not all that expensive.

It is a mid-level board. If you do not intend to overclock, then it should be ok. If you do intend to overclock, I would go with an asus pro board. You get better VRs, better northbridge cooling, etc with the higher end asus boards.

Is the Hard Drive I have chosen a good choice or should I opt for a different one?

No. The blue drives are low end. If you want a mech hard rather than a ssd, then go with a black series drive OR a raptor drive. Both have dual motor supports and dual processors; much better quality than a blue series drive. Just look at the warranty on each one; blue drive 2yr warranty, black or raptor drive 5yr warranty. That alone should tell you about quality. FWIW I have never had a raptor drive fail [I have had numerous other drives fail]

One other thought. Why do you need a fan controller? An asus board has all of the fan control you need built in to the mb.

Hi everyone
I'm Indrashis,I live in Kolkata(India) and I want to build a midrange gaming rig for around 26000-30000 rupees.
I have keyboards and mouse and a 16inch LCD monitor so i wont be buying those things and i will be playing Crysis,COD 6,Metro 2033 etc games.
(Also I want to have DDR3 RAM in my rig)
Please suggest accordingly.

A:System configuration for mid-budget gaming pc

Hi Indrashis95. Welcome to Techspot.

With a budget of around 30K INR you'll have to make do with an AMD dual or triple core system.

Look into the Phenom II X2 555 BE or if you can find the Phenom II X3 720. Any board with an AMD 770 / 870 chipset should do fine. You might be able to squeeze in the Phenom II X4 925 if you find a cheap enough motherboard.

As you'll be gaming on a 16" monitor I assume that your resolution will not exceed 1280x1024. A Radeon HD 5770 will be more than enough. In fact you could even consider the cheaper HD 4770 / 4850 for your system.

A 2x2GB DDR3 kit will do good. A good quality 450W PSU (with sufficient amps on the 12V rails) should run the system.

Just hunt around for the best possible prices. The vendors here are usually out to fleece you.

Incidentally, I'm also from Kolkata.

A:System is freezing, while av-scanning or gaming

check there's enough power from your PSU to power everything.

I remember playing Half Life 2 and other games for that matter after I'd reassembled my PC. It would freeze for like 5 seconds at a time, then resume, then freeze again.

I took my PC apart and worked out it was the cables from the PSU... I was sharing the graphics molex connector branch with the C:\ drive when I should have used it for the D:\ drive as C:\ needed its own cable branch (ie. no sub branches) ... hope that makes sense.

A:First time building gaming system

Hi Nate,
That will be capable of some great OC'ing. A couple of suggestions.
1) For the same or less $ you can get 2x 6870's. I highly recommend the ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU TOP cards though. I have 2 of my 4x 5850 system are the ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU TOP cards and they are the best version out there IMO.
2) I think you can get the corsair XMS 3 PC 12800 (1600) for the same price as what you have listed. I use this ram a lot and recommend it as well.
3) I would get into the 750W/60A PSU area with an overclocked CPU and 2x 5850's OC'ed. They will be using 200-225 W each by themselves.
The triple channel 'kit' is what you want for that board. A high end gamer like this here can benefit from 8GB's of ram, so you might want to consider getting another 6GB kit while prices are low if you can swing it.
Hope that helps

i have seen alot of gamers using only 1-2 gigs of memory (mostly pc6400).

my question is, how much is enough and how much is just over doing it when it comes to playing games.

A:How does system memory effect gaming?

2GB is pretty much the standard for a game PC. If you only do very light gaming or play older games, 1GB is fine. As cheap as memory is now, 2GB is usually an simple decision.

I have received a multitude of BSODs lately the most common being the System_Service_Exception. It usually occurs about 30mins into a gaming session (30mins of Team Fortress 2).

What can I do to fix this?

A:Some insight on a good $500-600 gaming system

I got a Dell Vostro 410 Tower but upgraded a lot on mine but there are other Small & Medium Business > Desktops > Vostro's
Also you don't get all the added junk on these as you do on the Home computers. Plus you can get XP. You got to pay the added money and right now you get...

FREE Genuine Vista Business Bonus w/ XP Professional downgrade Installed a $99 value. [Included in Price]
FREE $99 UPGRADE

XP is what gets installed but your get a XP Pro and Vista CD also.
I got this here as a free upgrade and free shipping.
Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 (2.40GHz,2X4M L2Cache,1066FSB) [add $170]

With Dell you have to go to each model and upgrade and down grade them to find out what ones will give you the best price.

Others will post more that know about building you own.

A:Building a new Xtreme gaming system. Need a lil help

It seems to be overkill to me!

Your looking at four to five thousand when all is said and finished. Make it two thousand and then upgrade your system in two years!

If you wait a couple months the 45 nm mid range quad cores will be out! Or you could simply go with the Quad Core 6600 and overclock it to 3 ghz no sweat. It will easily burn through all games at least for the next two years until you upgrade!

Also, go with two 8800 gt 512's! The ultras have only the slightest advantage over them for a much higher price.

4 gigs DDR2 1066 would probably be better!

I would invest in a top of the line motherboard! This way it will be easy in the future to upgrade! Personally I'm a big fan of Gigabyte.

1200 Watts is overkill. Unless you planning on running eight hardrives and four video card 800 Watts should be plenty! Aim for good efficiency!

If your feeling adventurous you could try a solid state hardrive which loads Vista in 2.6 seconds!

Overall it really depends on your pocket. If you feel like you can waste a grand or two then just get the best of the best. For performance though its not worth the extra cash.

Tom's hardware has some excellent charts and hardware and tons of info!

god that's so close to what I'm upgrading to its unbelievable.
You know more than me, but that looks like a good system...can you tell me where you're getting that PSU from? - oh I see, from Scan.co.uk

I should think that you don't really want to go cheaper than that for good performance....at least don't go to 128mb ram

If you want to cut costs, go for 256mb PC2100, and the Radeon 7500..i shouldn't think that he'd get much of a difference out of the faster memory.

You have to monitor your CPU and GPU temps during gaming.

No way should the top of your PC be getting hot.

Where is the Power Supply located in that case ? Is it getting hot ?

Problem started out with partial freeze during game (sound still works and mouse still works, can access other programs on other monitor for about 10-20sec) then system completely locks up.

After reinstalling everything, system BSODs all the time, but never completes the dump process, it usually freezes @ initializing dump file. It has only actually left a dump file one time. Sometimes it won't crash for hour and others it minutes after reboot and into game. Has only BSOD outside of gaming 1 time and that is when it made it thru the complete dump process. So.............your back again. GTA 5 requirements for recommended play are an FX 8350.  Your older system  , circa 2012 CPU , does not meet those requirements.

A:is this a worthy gaming system?, if not what do I need to upgrade?

unfortunately not. P4 1.8 GHz is kind of slow nowadays and i'm guessing it is the 478 running at 533 FSB. Try a new Athlon 64 socket 939 or the Socket 775 P4's. having 1 gig of RAM is good, but yours are 133 Mhz. Try running 1 gig of DDR at least 400 Mhz. for games, the video is the highest factor. Any 6800 or ATI X series is good for mid level cards, and the XT1800 or the 7800 are good high level cards. the 64 MB card you have is...sadly not up to par with games now. Lastly the PSU needs to be at least 400 watts. the rest seem alrite (DVD-RW and IDE hard drives)

That should be alright for a game like Spore or Star Wars. But the GPU is really what matters when it comes to gaming. How much are you willing to spend?

Long story short we have new home built PC and we Gaming video - crash and system PC are heavy online gamers using primarily Steam and Skype to play and communicate with a number of friends online playing against each other as well as watching movies online through Netflix Hulu etc The initial setup included Gaming PC - video and system crash assembling the PC components all went smoothly loading Windows operating system virus software and then only the gaming programs such as League of Legends During online game play and even movie watching on Netflix for example the video will freeze or freeze then the screen goes blank Sometimes only the game crashes sometimes the whole system crashes with a shut-system-down screen message There doesn t seem to be any recognizable pattern All other software used on the system work without any problems We ve tried all the online forums chat rooms and vendor sites We have adjusted system settings etc Windows has been uninstalled and reinstalled three times along with virus software programs and driver updates were also done in order to try and troubleshoot the possible issues I focused specifically on making sure the most recent motherboard BIOS was installed as well as the system graphics card drivers settings were updated Still no luck with our problem We have had different IT people look at the system and do different video testing and diagnostics but they cannot duplicate the problem mostly because they are not using the games that are being played when the problems occur We are not using a wireless connection so the internet speed should not be the issue We are at a point where we would need help from someone who is VERY experienced in building their own PC and heavily into gaming I am attaching the PC component list as a reference Windows AMD FX- ASRock PRO R AM AMD SATA PNY GB DDR W power supply XFX R - A-CDFC Radeon R GB -Bit WD Blue WD EZEX TB RPM nbsp

I've had my GTX 285 for a few years now and I haven't had any problems til now. Starting about 4 months ago I've been unable to play games without my entire system crashing. On higher end next gen games, the crash comes as soon as I am in game. On older games from 2002 or so, I can play for about 15 minutes before it crashes. When the computer does crash, I have to completely unplug the power and wait for the motherboard to power down before I can restart the computer.

There are no heat issues with either my CPU or GPU, I'm getting plenty of power, and I've swept out and reinstalled all of my drivers. Thoughts?

A:Need Mobo Advice for Non-OCing, Non-Gaming System

Intel, FoxConn, Gigabyte, Abit, and some ASUS

If you are not looking for a gaming board, there is no reason not to included AMD, which are as reliable as any, and much lower in price.

Look at the board reviews at www.tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com

Shop for combo deals of motherboard and processor from www.newegg.com, www.zipzoomfly.com, www.tigerdirect.com, www.directron.com and other such sites. You can save a great deal, if you know your boards from reading reviews... but if you have never built one before, a plain stock board of a good name such as the above are more important. Some of the Combos are returns that are other people's mistakes.

Don't forget that a decent power supply and CPU fan/heatsink, as well as first tier memory are just as important... and a Seagate or Western Digital hard drive.

Be sure the board and the hard drive are both SATA or both PATA.

That is a micro ATX by its description, and you could make one hell of a gaming system with that board.

The video card you are planning on getting isnt bad either, I'm sure you will be able to run those games with that card.

Here is a list of motherboard that should work for you.

Hi, I've been having sudden reboots for a few months now but lately it's become worse (can happen once every 30 minutes). Usually it happens when I am playing games but I can also force a BSOD by running Prime95.

I noticed that both the reboots and BSOD seem to happen much less when my CPU is not overclocked, but they're never truly gone. I cleaned the PC real good and the temps are very low (got a water cooling system).

I'm wondering if it's a driver issue or if the CPU is just defective. I ran with the same settings for 1 year and a half without trouble before this. I've tried disabling some drivers but nothing seems to help... I have a feeling a recent driver caused the issue but I can't seem to find the culprit.

I need help!

I'm looking to build a new gaming pc at a budget price.
I'm looking to spend anything under $1,200 not inculding mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers ect.

I just want CPU, motherboard, RAM, video card, extra cooler (If needed?), system drive, case and power supply.

It doesnt matter if its US currency or Australian. Basically no difference anymore.

I play games such as crysis, CoD, GRID, Spore, Gears, Tom Clancy's and so on and i want to be able to play these at a reasonably high quality.

Just need a list of products, what site i can get them from and how much they will cost.

Anything will help. Cheers ;p

I've actually finished building a similar system for my brother, the only real difference is that the video card is a HD5770 and it runs Crysis, COD etc on the highest graphics and runs smoothly. With this system above you would have no problems at all.

Hello My issue 2 BSOD) PCs - System Gaming/Furmark Freezes While (No here is an unusual one Here is the short version I have two nearly identical machines that have been running just fine I purchased two video cards Radeon R and both PCs started freezing when playing games and occasionally after some time running Furmark Local technicians initially thought the cards were bust and replaced them then said the PSUs were weak was running W and W at the time I System Freezes (No BSOD) While Gaming/Furmark - 2 PCs purchased two identical W PSUs and swapped them for my old ones but the issue still persists EDIT Local technicians also updated BIOS on both PCs Games can typically play for an hour or two and then randomly freeze the system There are no minidumps and event manager shows pitifully little Both computers are very similar same RAM same GPU same PSU same CPU comparable motherboards more or less same windows configuration same graphics drivers etc and the issue is the same with both of them The freeze itself manifests itself usually as a black screen with grey lines occasionally with colors of the visuals that were displayed at the time of the freeze and the sound stops shortly after So to sum it up I got new video cards and new PSUs the computers function just fine at Windows can write articles browse watch videos listen to music etc but may freeze the system while playing games One of the two machines was tested for several hours on Furmark without ever crashing but crashed in a game after less than an hour What I tried so far with no apparent success I replaced one of the new cards to ensure it wasn't just a faulty card Replaced PSUs with stronger ones Repeatedly removed display drivers with DDU and tried all sorts of combinations versions from AMDs recommended drivers Removed stopped several processes and unwanted programs Needless to say I am not overclocking anything not fiddled with any fan speeds voltage settings etc etc Both computers have been serviced one of them repeatedly by professional technicians Their final opinion was that the Motherboard of one of my machines may be faulty though the other machine had the same freezing issue again just a day later or that my PC might need a format and a clean windows installation Since both PCs are so similar and the issue seems identical random freezes while gaming or Furmark testing which may happen in a few minutes but can also take a few hours to manifest I think that the freezes might share the same root cause Can you please help me I will be most grateful and have ways to show it I will follow any and all instructions you give me Thank you in advance

A:System Freezes (No BSOD) While Gaming/Furmark - 2 PCs

(I apologize for not posting according to the BSOD posting instructions, but there are no actual BSODs and no minidumps and it seems that my case is not the typical one. That is why I am deferring to your help, and I will be truly grateful for it. Thanks again.)

EDIT: Both PCs crashed with Fallout 4 and Furmark several times. One PC crashed with Dragon Age Inquisition several times (not installed in the other one) and also crashed with an indie game called FTL before upgrading the PSUs (not tried after the upgrade.) Hope it helps!
EDIT 2: Local technicians also updated BIOS on both PCs (I added that info in the original post too.)
EDIT 3: Both computers have 2x2 DDR3 RAM sticks from 2009 plus 1x4 DDR3 RAM stick I installed a few months ago. I had absolutely no issues with either computer for a year or so.

I just bought a creative sound blaster usb sound card that supports dolby digital live and can convert any audio into 5.1; I'm planning on optical out. I have not purchased a theater system yet, because I have a question.

1. Is it possible to use a bluray home theater system to play Pc games in 5.1 surround sound?
an example would be my creative sound card to that via optical cable in order to utilize it's speakers for my PC game http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HT-F55..._cd_ql_qh_dp_t

-from my research these kind of receivers only output movies played through its disc tray in 5.1, any other source of audio will play in 2.1

2.Is it just better to get a reciever that handles audio only?

3.Is an optical port both female and male (I hope that makes sense), in other words is there such thing as an optical out to an optical in cable?

A:Bluray Home theater system used for 5.1 surround gaming?

The thing is, some games have support for 5.1 audio (for example Battlefield 3) while others don't (they just split the stereo signal through all the speakers, without actually taking into consideration the positioning of the player and the sound, etc)

I'm considering buying a Intel Core 2 Duo as a CPU for my new computer I'm planning on building. This computer will be a $1000+ dollar gaming computer. So, bottom line, this a good CPU or not?

Thanks in advance. Suggestions are welcome. = )

Edit: Also, I'd just like to also say that I'll be running general applications like Rhapsody, Firefox, etc. I heard someone say Quad-Core isn't a good choice unless you know your programs can use all four chips.

Hi First post so please be nice to the n b I ve been having a number of problems while playing games - and only while playing games System 9800 Radeon during PRO/VIA KT600 (ATI gaming chipset) freezes/reboots it seems - on my computer system The full spec is in my profile Whether it s Freelancer Civilization IV or The Sims I may be able to play the game for minutes or hours then at some point the system will unaccountably freeze up Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing even Num Lock doesn t work requiring a reset If I m lucky it ll reset itself though this doesn t happen often - a freeze-up is more common The CPU temperature is typically around - C after a reset compared to about C during quot normal quot usage such as Web browsing However I m not convinced that this is relevant as I can easily System freezes/reboots during gaming (ATI Radeon 9800 PRO/VIA KT600 chipset) push the CPU temp to this level by running any non-graphical CPU-intensive program and the computer will carry on quite merrily indefinitely I couldn t tell you what the GPU temperature on the graphics card is I m afraid neither MSI CoreCenter nor SpeedFan report it I ve tried pretty much everything with this system - I ve upgraded the fans from the bog-standard ones supplied with the case I ve installed a PCI slot grille fan I ve given the AGP card its own dedicated power cable I ve vacated most of the other PCI slots I ve updated the OS system BIOS and every driver I could lay my hands on to the most recent versions is the most recent for my card I ve set the AGP memory to MB in the BIOS I ve disabled Fast Writes in the BIOS and disabled VPU Recover in Catalyst I turned the fan speeds up to ear-damaging levels I even took the AGP bus speed down to x - all to no avail I m completely stumped I m fast coming to the conclusion either that the graphics card is simply getting too hot and giving up whatever I might attempt to do about it or that the card and my mainboard simply don t like one another I m that far from throwing in the towel and blowing a couple hundred quid on an NVidia card as my love affair with ATI is rapidly drawing to a close Any ideas Yes I know it would be much cheaper to replace the mainboard but I happen to like this board and it is way too time-consuming to replace Half a day of my free time is worth the extra money Update Today I uninstalled the Catalyst software deleted the ATI directory and reinstalled it I also dug out my old Iiyama CRT to act as a secondary monitor so I could watch CoreCenter and the Task Manager while Civ was running I duly managed to make the game crash again and on reboot was told that the system had crashed with the following error STOP x EA THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER Unfortunately the suggested remedies are either to update to the latest driver versions done or to replace the video card ouch Is there any hope Or are this card and mainboard simply Not Meant To Be Should I go with NVidia instead Or complain to MSI or ATI Or have I missed something really painfully obvious nbsp

A:System freezes/reboots during gaming (ATI Radeon 9800 PRO/VIA KT600 chipset)

52C on bootup? Thats not very good.

Your cpu or graphics card may be overheating, and in that case, will freeze your computer.

Judging on what you say by the cpu temps, I think it's your processor.
Take the heatsink off (gently, dont rip out the CPU), clean it (its probably full of dust like mine was :/, and reapply thermal paste to the CPU (use a RICE SIZED drop, more than that it might spill over the sides of the cpu.

Hello I have a Qosmio X - U PQX E bought in the summer of Since month after the warranty ended it started Qosmio message system issue cooling gaming X500-11U restarts & when making restarts for no reason but i did not give to much attention to it as it happened rarely However after year things got worse and I ended up on having a gaming laptop that I used only as an internet browser PC From time to time I blew the fans to clean them Finally I decided to fix it I gave it to a technician he cleaned it replaced the thermal paste from CPU-GPU and replaced one of the fans that was not working properly Still nothing changed I have tested it again by running windows experience rating and Qosmio X500-11U restarts when gaming & cooling system issue message it crashed as before I took the big decision to revert to factory settings and I made a clear installation of all system components including all toshiba's stuff Again restart during windows rating same thing happens when I run any high graphic games I Flashed the bios to v Again restart during windows rating same thing happens when I run any high graphic games In addition to the above since I made the clean installation of the system I have started to get the message quot Warning A problem with the cooling sensor has occurred return it for service quot I can hear the fan working however when I run the diagnostic tool of Toshiba CPU usage is at and fan at even in high power usage yes I have changed the power settings as well Any help would be highly appreciated as I really feel VERY bad having paid EUROs for a gaming computer that I can't operate for its intended use Thanks in advance

A:Qosmio X500-11U restarts when gaming & cooling system issue message

OK

fan usage is at 0% because my fans are now connected to USB ports in order to have them run faster as the technician replied to me. I have removed Toshiba Value added package and got rid of the message "Warning: A problem with the cooling sensor has occurred....return it for service". Laptop is working fine when browsing internet and watching movies.

However when I try to run any 3D graphic applications (and some flash based facebook games) it crashes (automatic shut down)

We have run 2 GPU benchmarks and both of them crashed when the card became loaded (same thing that happens during window rating)

We have reinstalled as well Physxloader.dll which was corrupt.

Any idea would help

Hi Guys This is my very first post on Windows Vista Forums and Ultimate 64-bit Gaming Windows Vista and Gaming Compatibility I am eager to get into this thread First off Windows Vista Ultimate is the very best you can buy for gaming This features the bit OS version which can process GB of RAM at top speeds you can find in a new OS I would definitely recommend this OS for gaming and none other Now on to the main part of my thread Compatibility Gaming This is the most discussed issue for gamers across the US The problem is how do you get games to work specifically older games on Windows Vista Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Gaming and Compatibility Gaming Ultimate Well there are solutions You could wait until the company of the game makes a OS patch for the game although that could take a while You could go into the game files and put the game into compatibility mode for your OS And You could revert back to an older OS that works for your game Which one would you choose I would choose They are always going to make games work on a newer OS Lets take the game Lord of The Rings Battle for Middle Earth amp Electronic Arts EA has already made a patch for those two that will have more chance of running on Vista If doesn't work then it's the type of computer hardware you are using The hardware would guarantee be outdated In that case just get more recent hardware It's not that difficult With a bit of research common sense and problem solving skills you can get gaming compatibility issues out of your hair I hope this thread has helped a couple of you out there Sincerely alienware Think I helped you out Click the scales Give me some rep Thanks

Hi everyone, recently I switched from my mini-itx board P8Z77-I to my old Z77A-GD65, since then I'm having stability issues.
My 2500k was stable at 1,32v, cooled by an H100i, my GPU is at @1200/1500, also tested and stable (7870xt), but now randomly the system hangs, with no bsod, mostly while gaming but also one time while I was using Chrome with a bunch of tabs opened, including YT; only one time I got a bsod, full report attached
Thanks in advance, Gabriel.

Hi Welcome to SF

Unfortunately the dumps you uploaded are all 0x124 errors which are hardware related
BSOD Index
My initial thought is as this is new machine i would return it to place of purchase as something is obviously not right, if you wish to look into this then...
Have a read of this thread it will give you some things to try
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Analysing your dumps (they are all the same) they state an error with level 2 cache on your cpu

A:BSOD with Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX970 in SLI while gaming

I've been having a very similar issue, I've only got the one Gigabyte 970 G1, and I've only really tested 2 games (AC Unity and Civ Beyond Earth) and while playing both after usually a few hours they'll freeze then I'll get a bsod. They're always Bug Check Code: 0x00000124 and all have the Crash Address: ntoskrnl.exe+4ae61c.

I've run windows memory diagnostic with no results, I've reseated my card, performed multiple clean driver installs, checked temperatures with no problems. I can't figure out what's causing it and this is the only similar problem I can find online. I really wish I could help but it seems we're in much the same boat

A:MSI Z170a Gaming 3 or GTX 960 GAMING 100ME Issue?

7-31-2016 Update

Well no one replied yet to my post but I did some more testing and the result is as follows.

I did some more troubleshooting and cleared the CMOS, swapped monitors, tried another HDMI cable and reinstalled the 960 into the new build for testing but it still did not solve the issue. Still locked at 800X600 with error code 43 (Windows disable the device because of problems) in device manager and I'm concerned about how the card itself boots and lights the RED VGA led on the MSI board. I retested it in that PC that has the 600watt PSU and an Asrock board and while it did work at a higher resolution the card behaves suspiciously during powerup as.

1. Power on All Fans and MSI logo light up.... Monitor is Blue (active)
2. 5 seconds later MSI logo goes off... fans still spinning.....Monitor is Amber (No Signal)
3. 15 seconds later MSI logo comes on......Monitor goes Blue (active)
4. Once Windows loads fans stop spinning. (Normal)

**Note** This is similar to the way it boots in the problem system (no RED led on Asrock board)

So 20 seconds total to initiate a stable signal to me is problematic and this is on the test PC not the one I built BUT I still can't rule out a problem with this MSI motherboard as that RED VGA led still comes on for a few seconds when the GTS 450 is in there (even though it works fine) and I can't find an answer to if that's normal. Sent a "support" request to MSI and their reply was "Try the card in another system and try another card in your problem system" lol. They must not read carefully as this was already covered....hahaha.

So... I need some suggestions besides those I tried and if anyone has a MSI Z170a Gaming 3 board can you please post your startup sequence and let me know if it lights the RED VGA led light on startup?
