I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not too many people want to click on an unknown link. Post your exact system specs here along with what you have already done. Include the exact pw supply you have installed. Do not post "500W" post the exact make and model.

Here is how you properly install a video card;
1 With old card still installed, download the latest driver for your new card
2 Uninstall ALL software based on the old card ie driver, any proprietary software, etc. Do not reboot, just tell it later.
3 Shutdown and pull your old card. Install the new card; be sure it is fully seated. Connect any pw connectors [if used]
4 Pw ON and install the driver you downloaded in step #1. Note do not use the support disk that comes with a video card. It almost always has out of date drivers on the disk.
5 Reboot when prompted. Done.

What do you use the PC for mainly?

If you use the PC for gaming then you should go ahead and take advantage of their offer and get the best that you can afford the difference of.

For NVidia, I would suggest either the newest, 680, or if that's too much or unavailable, I would go with the 580 3gig. For Nvidia, use EVGA.

For ATI, I would suggest the newest, 7970, or if that's too much or is unavailable, I would go with the 6970. For ATI, use XFX.

You didn't provide any information or specs about your computer.

I'm assuming you're currently using a 256 MB or 512 MB video card and want to increase it to a 1 GB video card.

What's the wattage of the power supply?

I'm not a hard-core gamer nor an expert on video cards, so I'll leave you with someone else who can assist you better.

But please note the graphics cards are integrated onto motherboard, and replacing a motherboard is a costly process nearly equal to a new system..

A:Laptop Graphics Card Replacement

There's a lot of information on your system at

If I understand the specs correctly, you have an Intel 965PM chipset, without integrated graphics. (Another version uses the 965GM chipset, with integrated graphics, but that's not what you have.)

I doubt that it's practical to convert to the chispet with built-in graphics, but you could ask your repair shop. The performance of the nVidia graphics is probably much superior, but you appear to not benefit from that.

Hello all,

My Nvidia 8800 GTX 768mb card died this past week so now i need to replace it. My game of choice is EQ2 which I play at high seetings sometimes duel boxing toons on the same pc.

I run duel monitors one is 24" and the other is 21"

I have a 1000w power supply
Intel P4 duel core 2.66
Raptor 10k rpm 150gig hard drive
mother board is Asus P5N-E SLI
memory uh if i remember correctly is 833speed 3gigs
windows XP Home

I want a card that can easly handle duel monitors at high resoulotion plus high gaming settings EQ2 demands a lot so want something that will last for a while. this time around I do not plan on paying $550 like i did for the 8800GTX when it came out. So something between say a $100 - $300+

Thanks for your help

A:Graphics card died, needs replacement

I'd go for a 5850 or 5870 if your budget allows for it, or a GTX 260 which can be found for 170-200.
And FFS get rid of that P4 and get a Core2 otherwise you'll be cpu limited.

Hello. This is my first post!
Here is my problem. I was given a died out Dell Inspiron B110 and has (had, more likely) no use. But now, I decided I am going to ya know, trick it out. So yeah, I can do the processor replacement and the hard drive replacement (someone please tell me the biggest processor I can fit in that B110 plz!), but my dad (yes, I'm a kid), says we can't replace it's graphics card (it's below 64MB, so I need a bigger one). I searched the 'net and found out I can replace it... but I just don't know how. Please tell me how to do it and the largest video card available for it.

A:Dell B110 Graphics Card Replacement

You are not going to "trick out" a Dell B-110 very much since this is a workstation machine.

About the best you can do would put in a 3 to 3.2Ghz. Pentium 4 processor (Northwood core only) with HyperThreading and add a PCI video card. The machine doesn't have an AGP or PCIe port + the power supply is only 250 watts.

if the machine currently has a Celeron processor you may open a can of worms trying to go to a Pentium 4 processor since it is most likely that you would need to change the processor heatsink for the Pentium 4 processor and you would need to get the heatsink assembly from Dell.

Here are the specs on the machine;

Personally, I wouldn't spend any money fr minimal upgrades.

A:After failed graphics card and replacement, Windows 7 Pro 64bit seems trashed.

Power up your computer, it doesn't need to boot to anything  all you want to do is get power on your optical drive so you can get the Windows install disc in. Then shut it down and re-boot it. Since you have a dual boot system you should either come to a screen which asks boot from Ubuntu or Cd, or you will be told 'Press any key to boot from Cd'. Press any key and let it boot. You will come to a screen which asks you to pick a default language, and having picked one, the next screen asks 'Install Windows' or 'Repair Windows'. Choose 'Repair' and let it run. This will do a repair install which will not overwrite your data.
It is possible that your Windows system has become too badly corrupted for this to work, in which case you will have to do a complete re-install, which will wipe out your data. A way to get round this problem is to take out the HDD that you Windows is on, plug it into someone else's computer as a second drive, and you should be able to copy the data off it either to the original hard drive in that computer or to an external hard drive. Then return your hard drive to your computer and carry out a complete re-install of Windows. This is a complete pain in the rear because you will then have to re-install everything that was on that partition.
Good luck,
Chris Cosgrove

A:How to install graphics card when the existing graphics card in not working.

You could always stick the new one in and boot up in safe mode. Then proceed to uninstall all the remnant drivers. That *shouldn't* cause any problems, but it may be choppy when you boot up.(I've had this happen before, swapping a Riva TNT2 for a GF6600).

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.

I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.

My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

"igfx tray" stopped
"hkcmd mod" stopped working ...
"dr watson postmortem debugger" error
"windows explorer had to close" error
I went into safe mode in window7 ... I have a dual boot with XP ... I uninstalled the drivers in the device manager ... in the add and remove if the software was there ... I even when into the program files and deleted the nvidia files ... then let windows install the drives again ... still get the same errors. There is nothing in the bios that will disable the on board video ... It must be disabled automatically ... Could it be the replacement card is bad too?

ASUS GT240 graphics card "ERROR CAN NOT FIND GRAPHICS CARD" Can anyone help me with this error message? I can hear the windows startup sound but it shows no display so i plugged the cable into the motherboad and an error box opend wich stated "ERROR CAN NOT FIND GRAPHICS CARD" with no additional information. I searched online and found that asus smart doctor can cause this and they recommend that you uninstall and reinstall the drivers to fix this problem but the pc is not picking up the graphics card to reinstall all the needed drivers. I also found people with the same problem and after they did a clean install of windows7/vista and all the drivers the error box still appeared. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the PCIe set as first to initialize in the BIOS? Also, have you tried the card in another slot on the MoBo? Have you tried cleaning out the slot with canned air? Have you tried using a pencil eraser to gently clean the contacts in the GPU where it plugs into the PCIe?

And please, thoroughly fill out your System Specs by clicking on the tab under your post.

The reason you only have 16 colors is because the video driver is not install or it is corrupt.

Hey, recently, I have came up with an idea of a fourth monitor, but my GPU (970) supports only three, which ones that I own. It has fourth one but I don't have the right cables for it for now.
I noticed that my motherboard has two open video ports, one being VGA which I needed. So, I tried just plugging it in and seeing what happens but it doesn't seem to work, I have tried looking for results around the internet and BIOS but they don't seem to work. The three monitors which I have plugged into my GPU, work perfectly fine, but, as I said, the motherboard's VGA port doesn't work. I have heard that such thing definitely is possible, but I cannot find out what I need to do.

Does anyone have an answer to this?

If my motherboard currently has an intigrated graphics card, but has a PCI-E slot, do I need to do anything special after inserteing my graphics card and installing the drivers, or should it just work right away?

A:How do you switch from an integrated graphics card to an "external" graphics card?

Most modern PCs will detect the new installation of the PCI graphics card and automatically disable the onboard graphics, so yes it should just work.

If for some reason you have problems, you may have to make a change in the bios, I cannot be more specific because each bios is different depending on manufacturer, and model of the motherboard.

Install the card, connect your monitor to it and boot up, when you get into Windows install the driver and reboot.

A:Graphics card doesn't post any graphics to my monitor, computer boots up fine

Its usually just the graphics cards, they do fail especially if they overheat - then video card fan not speeding up might have been the problem - most are dynamic and should actually speed up under load. Depending on the manufacturer of your 8800GTX you might be able to get it replaced under warranty if they have a 3 year or greater warranty.

A:Whats a Good Graphics card for Gaming and using Adobe Software-Graphics

I've done a lot of research on this because I built a new system back in August. While I am not much of a gamer, I needed a very good NLE machine. However, the card I chose is quite the gamer card but had all the extras I needed to run Adobe Video Collection.

I picked the Connect 3D Radeon X850XT Platinum card from Tigerdirect. At the time it was $350 but I know it's cheaper now. It's got everything you need for a demanding application like Premiere Pro 1.5 and its related software. 256MB of GDDR3 memory and dual DVI outs. I highly recommend this card. I've been using it since the start of September with Adobe and it's great.

Your CPU and memory are a bit more of an important factor with rendering and burning though. My new PC has a 3.4Ghz P4 and 2GB of 533Mhz dual channel RAM. It's an exceptional increase in speed and productivity over my old 2.4Ghz and 512 Rambus.

A:Problem installing new graphics card on Emachine/onboard-graphics

An extreme option

As you do have the option of a working computer prior to installing the new card I would back up any files that are important to you..
Then, before I would pay someone else BIG bucks, I would put in the new card and try a fresh install of windows. Force it to recognise your new card. The drivers that Windows will pick should suffice until the install is done and you can then install the card specific drivers from your disk.
This is given ONLY as a choice. I am not sure this will solve your problem but IT IS something this cheap bas____ would try before paying someone else.

Good Luck and check back, maybe someone else will contribute a better idea.

Lately I have been having graphics problems in games. There are these " artifacts", wierd shapes, triangles, ect that appear and "shot" through my screen. it is hard to explain what it looks like, except that it is NOT normal.

It is hard to say when these appeared. I have recently got a different monitor. It is not new. It is a Dell CRT monitor. I replaced 1 CRT with another because I am cheap .

I have the latest drivers, I think, for my graphics card ( GeForce 5700 LE ). Not great , but not terrible. I play the games with either low or medium settings. I ran a benchmark test that was terrible.

Any ideas as to weather it is the card or monitor?

Onboard graphics are disabled in the BIOS (Try looking under "Integrated Peripherals" or something similar.
You probably don't need to do this, but it's nice to know how.

Hello there, I am looking for a dirt cheap, Windows 7 suitable graphics card for use with a PC designed for multimedia purposes (watching films, listening to music etc). I would like to be able to use the full visual effects Windows 7 has to offer. It must have an S-video output and be compatible with the Asus M3A78-CM Motherboard. I have 1 PCI Express x 1 slot free and 2 x PCI 2.2 slots free.

Please provide some suggestions, doesn't have to be brand new.

Either that, or something like the Gadmei XGA/VGA LCD TV BOX. I want to connect my PC with the motherboard mentioned previously to my CRT TV (Panasonic TX-28PL4 Quintrix). The motherboard has onboard graphics via dvi and vga outputs. The TV has an S-VHS plug on the front, as well as RCA Audio/Video sockets. On the rear, it has 1 spare scart input.

What are your thoughts?

A:Graphics Card/Onboard Graphics for Media Centre PC

the graphics card listed in my specs may only be 64MB, but it surprisingly runs aero.
If that seems to be not quite what you're looking for, another card I would recommend is the nvidia 8400GS. It may be 512MB, but thats about as high as it's specs go, but you will need a more powerful PSU (300W+). The 8400GS is about ?30 and a vga to RCA adapter seems to be about ?5 (i recommend you buy the adapter before the card).
The one in my specs just has a VGA port, but the 8400GS has vga, dvi and hdmi (i think the hdmi may need some further cabling in the case, not sure though)

NB (the card listed in my system specs may actually be the GeForce 7200GS, all system information programs tell me that it could be both and there's no sticker on it. all i know for (kinda) certain is that its 64MB )

First I'll declare an interest: I love the FX5200. It's an old card but I've used about 8 of them in various rigs with no problems at all and they don't cost much, either. You can get them with and without fans. Most of mine were fanless because that IS quieter. A 128MB FX5200 should show a noticeable improvement over a 64MB MX440.
I've used them in Socket A PC's, which run pretty hot but, again, no problems, and a couple of Socket 754 rigs.
When you replace your current card with whatever you decide to use, be sure to remove the old card's drivers and software before installing the new one. The manual will give you full guidance.

Whats the best card I can get for AGP 8x or PCI 'rev 2.2' slots on my mobo? Im building a brand new PC in about 1 1/2 months but I need something to play Battlefield 2142 on

And by the way, my current card took a hit (I think) when I tried to OC it while playing battlefield 2142, and now battlefield 2142 wont get past the intro screen. So is there any way to test/diagnose my card for problems?

thanks everyone

My video card died and I need a replacement for it. I have (or had) an ASUS AGP-V6600 Deluxe GeForce 256 32MB card. OK. Don't laugh. I know its old.

Can someone suggest a good replacement? I couldn't find this card on eBay so maybe there's one out there that is similar.

If it helps, I have an ASUS CUSL2 Intel 815E motherboard.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hey!! So basically I need a new one and I have decided over what to buy and did some research but I want to check in with you guys just to be sure that the gpu and psu are compatible. This is what I want: GTX 760 2gb Physx CUDA; and my current psu is: Silver Power SP-S650. Never had a gpu that needed two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors before so I want to be super sure that I got it right )

By the link in the quote you have a PSU with 4x 6+2pin PCIe connectors, and 650W is plenty for two GTX 760 in SLI.

I recently had a repair tech put new parts in my PC, but the new Mainboard has onboard video. Do not like it, seems to be too slow. Will it work if I disable the onboard video and then reinstall my NVidia GeForce card that I used to have? Great graphics-it has its own cooling fan. Hi, so I had another topic trying to fix a stuttering issue with my laptop's sound ( System-Wide Audio Stuttering ) the stuttering problem went away for a few days and has returned harder than ever. I'm seriously beginning to think it must just be an intermittent failure, and since it's not under warranty (and I don't feel like sending it off to HP due to costs) I was wondering if anyone could suggest something like in the thread title. I mean, unless of course sending it of'll be the cheapest option.

Also, deepest apologies if this is in the wrong section.

A:Looking for a Sound Card Replacement in USB

There are several USB connected sound devices. SoundBlaster makes one.

However, no guarantee that will fix the stuttering problems. Although it is affecting sound, it could be other things in the PC and not the actual sound hardware.

Do a google search for "USB Sound card"

I have an older computer with a PNY GeForce 7300GS video card that the fan on has recently started making a noise, so I suspect it is eventually dying. I want to replace the fan (not the card) but every spec I read on the card says "with fan".. no sizes, no dimensions, specs, nothing. I ordered one fan that ended up not fitting the holes on the video card. I would buy a whole new video card but my power supply is only 300W and a lot of the newer cards require more, and its sort of tight on space, so I would be worried about it fitting (also cost is an issue.. the card itself works fine).

As far as I can tell, my exact video card is:

Any help on what fan would fit, or where I can find the info?

Has anyone here tried replacing the wireless card in their laptop with an 802.11n model? One fly in the ointment is that the laptop only has two antenna connections, and the 'n' card has three antennas. I see varying reports around the web of how this will effect the function of the card. Some say it'll still be better than an 802.11g card, others are not so sure.

It appears that the proper mini-PCI Express card is available, so it's really down to how effective the thing will be with two antennas vs. the three it should have. I have not found any 'n' mini-PCI Express cards with two antenna connections, though I have a D-Link 802.11n router that only has two.

Obviously, I don't want to spend $60 for the card if it's not going to be satisfactory.

Have you ran defrag lately? One program that I run is Cacheman. It might be worth a try. if you dont like it just turn it off or uninstall it. It gives you 4 choices of optimized cach settings. one is for CD burning.

My question is, will my system benifit from a PCI graphics card or is the bus too slow for PCI to show any type of improvement? The only reason I say PCI is because the system does not have an AGP slot.

Hi , The option is the one where the nvidia card and intel on-board are shown, and the BIOS should select the nvidia card as priority if it can, and has a choice.
It's sometimes known as 'Primary Video' & the option is called PEG.
Make sure you save the settings when you exit or they won't be changed from before.

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

What is the ram & psu make and model?
Try clearing the cmos, per MoBo book.
First check to see that you used MoBo's stand off's correctly and
that the MoBo is not shorting out on the case.
Do a bare setup, only the essentials. Can be done with or without case.

1.cpu heatsink/fan
3.1 stick of known good ram card
5. keyboard

Un-hook all power & data cables (except the power to MoBo)
remove all addin cards.
This is just to get you to the bios screen.
Failing this, try booting without any ram just to see if you get any error
beep codes, same with video card.

This should help getting some trouble shooting in order.
G'Luck and let us know.

Need to know how much that you are willing to spend. What type of graphics slot the PC has. What power supply. And you are right about the memory upgrade. At least one gig, prefer 2 gigs. This machine may not be the right one to upgrade fully. Nvidia 7900 series cards are very good. 7600 GT. 7800 GS (AGP only).

It has been my experience that you should be able to do exactly what you propose.

However, I have also worked on Compaq systems and true IBMs that require only parts that are manufacured by them to work. I think Gateway also has that issue.

I haven't been working on PC assembly for quite some time so I really don't know how pertinent that is with today's machines.

Sorry that you had to wait so long for a response.

My 7900 burnt out, and I need a reasonably priced ($50-$100) replacement. I'm looking at a EVGA e-GeForce 9400 GT (PCI-e 2.0, 1GB), on amazon for $58. What other cards fall into that range and would be comparable or better than what I have now? This system is 4 years old with a 300watt PS.

I think I killed my video card by pressing it in too hard - soooo annoying.

GeForce2 MX400 64MB SDR RAM PCI

How much will a new one cost - it is kinda old? I can only find similar specs on an AGP can I tell if I have the suitable slot?

Where can I find something similar that will work with my PC? specs: Intel Pentium III 1.3G(thats right Giga - almost left it off)Hz processor, 512MB SDR RAM.

I'm in UK (jic).

A:Video Card dead - replacement

Looks like either a radeon 9250 or an nvidia fx5200.

They have MX 4000 and MX440 cards also.

A:Need advice on replacement AGP Video card

Any AMD or nVidia AGP card that supports W7 should work. Use Tigerdirect or Newegg to search for one.
