I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,And welcome to BleepingComputer.com, before we can assist you with your question of: Am I infected? You will need to perform the following tasks and post the logs of each if you can.Malwarebytes Anti-MalwareNOTEMalwarebytes is now offering a free trial of their program, if you want to accept it you will need to enter some billing information, so that at the end of the trial you would be charged the cost of the product. Please decline this offer, if you are unable to provide billing information. If you want to try it out, then provide the billing information. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.SUPERAntiSpyware:Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware FreeDouble-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. An icon will be created on your desktop. This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.
GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic Full Scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in safe mode.-- If GMER crashes or keeps resulting in a BSODs, uncheck Devices on the right side before scanning. All scans above should be performed in regular boot mode, and if that is not possible then I will post instructions in a follow up reply on how to get into Safe Mode to perform the scans. Also all scans should be COMPLETE and not quick unless specifically instructed to do so.

I bought a third-party USB-C to ethernet adapter to test my internet speed and found that it is not much faster than if I use the wifi. I always thought that LAN speed is faster than Wifi? Or is there something wrong with my cheap (US$20) USB-C to ethernet adapter? Hope to gain some insights at this forum for this first-time Lenovo user.Thank you.

Hey guys This issue is most puzzling to me Since yesterday the internet began to act unsoundly through WiFi As in I never had this problem before There were periods where it was fast enough to play some online games watch Youtube no problem and then it would shut off randomly So since yesterday I have been restarting the modem with only very short term resolutions to the issue I accessed the modem through my web browser and it says the connection is always working fine Despite that I called my ISP and they claimed there was an issue and forwarded it to Deutsche Telekom Since then I did some experimenting and plugged my computer into the modem with the ethernet cable Boom No problem whatsoever It's been top speed and reliable So I'm assuming this is an issue with Windows hopefully you guys can help me out If it helps I downloaded and installed updates for Windows today There are optional ones that I did not download yet but I did is Wifi unstable, top is ethernet speed? cable yet download and install the important ones Wifi is unstable, yet ethernet cable is top speed? no problem I checked the network adapters and they all state quot The best driver for your software is already installed quot Thanks in advance

A:Wifi is unstable, yet ethernet cable is top speed?

You may want to go to the website of the laptop's manufacturer and download the latest driver, and install it. Using the OEM driver, sometimes eliminates the problem.

A:Browsing/page Loading Speed Is Good But Downloading Speed Is Too Slow

Have you monitored your system with Windows Task Manager while downloading? If you determine Firefox is causing the problem, try safe mode and/or a new profile. Sometimes settings and/or extensions got corrupted leading to strange behavior. Standard diagnostic - Firefox

When comparing speeds, remember to divide your speedtest result by 8. 0.89 mbps is around 101KBps.

Download speeds depend on many factors, inclduing the modem/router, traffic through your ISP at the time, and the type of download, just to name a couple.

What type of download is it? Are they torrents? These can often be slow.

Are downloads slow from everywhere?

You mentioned video buffering; Do you have downloads going at the same time that you are trying to view a video? Are there other people sharing your connection (eg other family members)?

You didn't say if you had tried rebooting the router/modem, or if you had been in contact with your ISP. These would be among the first things to try.

As you haven't stated what you have tried, I'm going to assume none of the following have been tried. Apologies if you have tried/tested the following.

If you plug a phone into the same wall socket at your modem do hear any noise/static or is is sound quality very poor or low volume? These might indicate physical line problems, which your Telco would need to address.

It's also possible the equipment at your local exchange is in need of a reboot. This is often referred to as a "Port reset". Your ISP can do this for you.

Other things you can try is replacing the phone and ethernet cable (if you are connected by cable), or replacing the line filter if you have one. If you have multiple devices on your phone line remove everything except your modem/router.

If you have a DSL connection you know that the speeds will vary dramatically from one hour to the next. But 2KBps is poor in any situation.

Have you tried doing ping and tracert to various sites? You ISP may want this information to place a fault report with your telco.

copy and paste results into an email to your ISP

ping www.google.com -t (Stop it after a minute or so).
ping www.yahoo.com -t (Stop it after a minute or so).

tracert www.google.com

See how you go with the above. Get back to us if you get no joy from your ISP/Telco.

Hi, anyone know if the speed of a broadband connection would be reduced if you connected the cable/dsl modem with two ethernet wires linked by a coupler instead of one longer ethernet wire ???

The reason I'm asking is because I hooked up my PS2 unit to my cable modem so that I can play NBA online, but the speed seems slow (more like in slow motion) and I'm wondering if this was because I joined two ethernet wires with a coupler ? I had to do this or get a longer wire because the TV is on the other side of the room from the computer.

Thanks for any info.

I have been battling with my internet provider for over a year now, yesterday they tell me my laptop is at fault!  The problem is my internet speed, on wireless I get around 140mbs, but when hardwired to my router I only get 90mbs at best? My provider now tell me it is due to my ethernet adapter, it is only capable of 100mbs. If this is the case, how do I increase the speed, or replace the adapter?   Regards   M

Hi all Ive recently got setup with a wireless broadband setup coaxial cable from rooftop Gigabit Port on LAN Speed Ethernet panel down into a cable modem which is connected with a Cat ethernet cable to my pc The thing I don t get is the speed of the LAN reported in Vista I have an Asus P T Deluxe V motherboard with dual gigabit ethernet ports but the rated speed of the LAN is only mbps I have checked the Speed and Duplex settings on the LAN Speed on Gigabit Ethernet Port NIC it is set to quot auto-negotiate quot LAN Speed on Gigabit Ethernet Port with the possibility to change it to quot mbps Full Duplex quot Ive seen on other forums that changing this setting can have no affect Could this be a configuration issue or the fact that the cable modem branded only quot Com quot may not be compatible with faster speeds on ethernet or maybe the Cat cable needs to be changed UPDATE - I remember that my PS had a Cat cable in the box connected that between the modem and the NIC and it still ran at mbps I then changed the Speed n Duplex setting to mbps at which point I lost all connectivity and only regained it when i switched to the mbps option nbsp

A:LAN Speed on Gigabit Ethernet Port

If you're plugging your PC directly into the modem, you're likely seeing the limitation of the port speed of the modem which is typically either 10 or 100 Mbit. This won't matter too much as I doubt your wireless service is giving you anything over 10 Mbit anyways.

I saw a video where a person doubled up the Ethernet cable from the gateway to the pc and taped both ends to hold them together but leaving the pins exposed. The exposed part surprised me as I though they should be taped too. The cables ran parallel to each other. He said the ones you get at stores just put double cables inside. He showed a speed test before and after and the results were very impressive. Before I go on a fool's errand, is there any truth to this ?

I have been looking into an issue with a customers WAN LAN investigating slow throughput nbsp A couple of things I have learned and have confused me on how to determine the actual speed of speed Actual connection Ethernet a connection between a PC and its switch router When I throttle the port that a PC is connected to Kb s using QOS nbsp the PC still says the link speed is Gb sWhen I set the the port speed to say Mb s Windows says it is connected to a Mb s link The difference suggests Windows or the NIC asks the Switch for the link speed and doesn't actually measure the line speed Actual Ethernet connection speed Why am i looking at this Actual Ethernet connection speed I have always been curious about the impact poorly deployed cabling has on actual LAN performance nbsp If for example a cable ran past a device that induced some sort of interference that slowed traffic across the cable then Windows will be oblivious to it and all the testing at switch and device level may not highlight the fact that the cable run from the outlet to the patch Actual Ethernet connection speed panel is the problem Your collective thoughts knowledge and understanding apprecaited

When plugged in via ethernet I can get about 35 megabit but when going wireless, I'll be lucky if I hit 14 megabit. I have a linksys e2500 router with the latest firmware. I have tried 2 different wireless cards one usb (TP-link n150) and a PCI-e (asus pce-n15), both with the latest drivers available. With the Asus my connection is a steady 5 bars, at 144.5 Mbps. I am in an apartment complex so there are a lot of other signals around me but I have tried to select the best channel I can with the least amount of overlap I can. Anyone have any ideas about some hidden router settings that might throttle speeds? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and I'm running windows 7 64bit

So I just installed Windows on my gaming rig I gotta say after being skeptical of this whole OS for a while installing it fresh and trying it out shows just how useful and FAST it can be The only thing about W that isn't fast is my ethernet adapter When connected downloads are slow pages take long to respond videos are constantly choppy and buffering etc Looking at the ethernet connection in Task manager it looks like the connection is being speed capped at Mbps The graph of the speed fluctuates speed ethernet installing after 8 Slow Windows up and down in the low range but hits a wall at mbps This wasn't the case when I Slow ethernet speed after installing Windows 8 had Win - I could easily pull Mbps on speedtest net Chattanooga fibre optic internet FTW My WiFi adapter in Win also does not have this problem but I want to use the wired connection because the campus Slow ethernet speed after installing Windows 8 wi-fi is unreliable I have already updated the LAN drivers trying both the Windows- suggested driver and the one from the manufacturer website No difference Can anyone help me out here so I can start installing my steam games and not have it take years

A:Slow ethernet speed after installing Windows 8

Wow! That should not happen! I have to assume that Win 8 drivers were available for your hardware LAN and you installed them accordingly. So, Win 8 is perfectly capable of delivering the same speeds you experienced in Win 7; especially over a wired ethernet connection. Now, you may wish to try or ignore my suggestions but the first thing I would do is eliminate the router from the mix by plugging my ethernet connection directly into the modem and retest. However, it is strange that your wifi does not have this issue as well. Also, you said you downloaded drivers from both Windows Update and the manufacturer's website. So, does manufacturer mean the builder of your unknown system or the manufacturer of the LAN component on your motherboard?

One other thing. Have you downloaded the latest bios update for your unknown system and is it Win 8 compatible/ready?

You might want to consider adding your system specs if none of my suggestions work. Good luck.

Hey all
I'm wondering if anyone can help with this one. around a once a day for the last few days my Ethernet connection between my PC and router (Virgin Media Hub 3 in case your wondering) cuts out for around 30-60 seconds comes back on but instead of receiving a 1 Gbps connection it only receives 100 Mbps. Until a few weeks ago this would have been a non issue since I had a 100mbps internet connection but I have since taken a free speed upgrade to 150 Mbps. This isn't an urgent issue since unplugging the cable from the router sorts the problem out but it is annoying so any advice would be appreciated. I have also posted a screenshot the network detail window as well.

Thanks

That confuses me. I did the speedtest and I got 2307 kbps with ethernet and I got
5191 kbps download speed with wireless. Why is that? shouldn't being directly connected make your connection faster?

A:Faster download speed with wireless than ethernet?

If the speed tests continue to show this problem, it is also possible that you have a less than perfectly crimped Ethernet cable. I have seen poorly crimped network cables work but offer reduced transmission speeds. Just try another patch cable to rule this out as an issue.

Hi Guys,
Have an issue with my internet speed, I am currently subscribed with an ISP for 60Mb/s Connection and I can only get that speed via cable over wifi it goes down to 26Mb/s, after I called my ISP they told me I had to buy some other wifi device that extendes my signal and is able to transmit more then 26MB/s so I bought a NetGear EX6100 Wifi Range Extender and set it up as an access point on the 5GHz channel it is currently connected via cable with the ISP Router but still im only getting 26Mb/s.
Im stuck what did I do wrong ???

A:Wifi Speed

My cable service plan is for 150 Mbps download.

I get 150 - 170 Mbps on ethernet and 30 - 50 Mbps on wireless.

I've tweaked my wireless connection as much as I can and still get the much slower speed.

It's still fast enough for my needs, so I've learned to live with it.

I recently purchased a NAS Drive which works ok. However I have also found out that my Sky Hub only supports <100Mbps.

The problems I have is when copying to the NAS drive I only get write speeds of around 10-12MBps which sounds about right being around 1/8 of the 100Mbps. Also when I stream I get a lot of buffering/cut out with any HD content streaming to my Xbox 360.

I just wanted to know if unplugging everything from the router and into a gigabit Ethernet switch then connecting that to the router will speed everything up? Or would I be better off going all out on a pricey router?

Basically am I right in thinking the switch will bypass the router for anything not using the internet?

Is a gigabit connection a pure connection at a gigabit OR
does the connection adjust speeds lower or higher or what?

If you look into the connection data and see no errors and your connected at a gigabit rating does this mean that is a real gigabit or has it negotiated some other speed rating.

A:gigabit ethernet speed questions, do you get 3/4 or 1/2 or full speeds

It would depend on if something on the network is limiting your speeds. Typically you dont have anything on a home network until you reach your ISP and they will probably be throttling your speeds.

It also depends on other devices. If you have a switch or router that only has a 100mbps port then your gigabit port on your PC will only work at 100mbps.

Quote:

You will be getting full gigabit.

Remember that its gigabit not gigabyte, so for file transfer speeds the theoretical speeds is 128 MBps.

Have you just got Virgin Installed lately if so it takes some time to settle ...

As for wireless and Lan connections they can be the same speed with Virgin ... Though you should be getting more than 75mb at times ....

A:why good signal strength and bad speed

Comparing pples and oranges.
Ethernet connection computer to router 100 Mbps standard
Wireless connection computer to router 54 Mbps standard 801.11 b/g

How are you testing the connection from laptop to router? Click wireless icon and bring up status page. Speed shown here is speed between card and router. Should be 54 Mbps. If it is less than this you have a problem with you wireless card or router.

Are you running an internet download speed test. This will only show overall speed between your computer and test site, not between computer and router.

Welcome to TSG!

Sorry to say that's all you'll get with 802.11 g. The 54Mbits/sec is the maximum physical layer bit rate. Actual throughput will be around 24 Mbits/sec Max.

Only way to "fix" it is to upgrade to 802.11 n.

I have an 802.11 n setup which connects at 130 Mbits/sec, but the Max throughput is around 60-65 Mbits/sec.

Hi,

I have one of these wireless cards Asus WL-138g v2 and I have it running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit the card stays connected but is painfully slow when downloading and using the internet. I have tried a collection of different drivers removed anti virus software, disabled all start up items and services but this does not solve the issue. The only thing I have found so far that does solve this problem is to boot into safe mode and then it works fine and is not slow at all. Anyone have any ideas on what might cause this issue?

THanks

A:Slow Wifi Speed

As always check to make sure you have the most up to date driver from Asus. Also check and/or disable any software firewall that may be negatively affecting the connection.

Another thought that comes to mind is... what are you connecting to with this wifi card? Is this your own network, or? What is the signal strength of this connection? Screenshots may be helpful here.

Way too often my wifi cuts out and I need to use the troubleshooter to restart it, When it returns my speeds are cut by 50%. It is NOT a problem with my wi fi as speeds on my desktop stay stable.  Really tired of a failrly new computer having this problem frequently.

Hi all, I am using windows 8 in my laptop and Ubuntu in my desktop PC. In the desktop, I used to browse the internet by connecting LAN cable. and using WiFi on my laptop. I am using Acanac's unlimited internet plans in Quebec. The browsing speed is comparatively high in Ubuntu than windows 8. Is there any mechanism to boost the browsing speed in windows 8? I am not very familiar with Ubuntu. Most of the times I use my laptop to browse. If you have any solution, please put it here.

Hey,

my wifi seems very slow under Windows 8 and is acting like its been "capped" by something.

When running Windows 7, I was getting approx 60MB actually download rate off of my apparent 120MB Virgin Media service, now that I am on Windows 8 it appears to be running at 20MB.

The drivers have been updated to the one that was on the manufacturers website, before the update was applied my download was capped at 1MB.

Does something need changing / tweaking on Windows 8 to make it more friendly to high speed broadband?

Cheers

hi guys, is there a way to increase wifi speed to make i go fast like a cable connection?

any surgestions would be good?

A:is there a way to increase wifi speed?

Hi there

1)Your Router needs to support the new Wireless-N standard up to 600 mbs from the presemt 54 mbs (WIRELESS-G).

2) Your Wireless card need to support it too.

Wireless-N routers are a bit more expensive -- and the problem is that if you are using a Laptop it's not easy to change the wireless chip so you'll have to use an external USB Wireless-N card -- also not cheap.

I don't think there will be too many PUBLIC WI FI places that will have wireless -n system for ages yet so you are stuck with wireless g @ 54 MBS max.

If you are on a shared wireless connection then the number of users will also slow it down -- especially if you have a load of users such as in a Hotel downloading Music / streaming audio into their hotel rooms etc.

Here's a wiki on Wireless-n (do further research as always with wiki).

My computer was running just fine til about a week ago. I am on a secure network that was before yielding 1/mb/sec download speeds on wireless router. I have tested the network on my laptop and it still runs just fine, however my desktop has become sluggish, the download speeds are down to 30kb/sec and the search function has been taken over by "searchfastfind.net" that Malware Bytes has failed to find. Today the internet would simply die and not reconnect, or my browser would redirect to dead sites. The CPU on any processes doesn't seem high, but my computer is screaming like it's running several programs at once. I am using Vista, all updates installed that are available and needed.

What would I do to figure out the sort of malware I suspect this to be?

I recently upgraded my internet service and found that speed test results from speedtest.net and speakeasy.com were giving me download results that were ~ half of what I was supposed to be getting ( 9Mbs vs 16Mbs). I called the ISP and they suggested I restart in safe mode w/ networking and run the tests again. I did and the results of the test were surprising. I was getting the 16Mbs download speed that I signed up for. The tech suggested that I may be infected with something. I run several free programs (Mbam, avg, avast, ect.) to try to aviod these things, but it seems as though something may have gotten through. Any help that you guys may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Btw, no error messages and I am running Windows XP. Thanks in advance.

A:Pc speed test download speed significantly faster in safe mode

I take it MBam is updayted and run..Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when doneclick Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode). After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.Next run ATF and SAS: If you cannot access Safe Mode, run in normal ,but let me know.Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".From your regular user account..Download Attribune's ATF Cleaner and then SUPERAntiSpyware , Free Home Version. Save both to desktop ..DO NOT run yet.Open SUPER from icon and install and Update itUnder Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):Close browsers before scanning.Scan for tracking cookies.Terminate memory threats before quarantining.Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program. DO NOT run yet.Now reboot into Safe Mode: How to enter safe mode(XP)Using the F8 MethodRestart your computer. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode. Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox or Opera browser click that browser at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.NOW Scan with SUPEROpen from the desktop icon or the program Files listOn the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.Perform a Complete scan. After scan,Verify they are all checked.Click OK on the summary screen to quarantine all found items. If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally. To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.Click Close to exit the program. Please ask any needed questions, post logs and Let us know how the PC is running now.

Only had this new pc a few weeks and it is so slow now after 3 blue screen of death crashes that caused this I think, I believe firefox caused. I am not sure how to read dump files to show you details of the BSOD. I am including details of my PC along with the hijack this log, my system is clean though according to antispyware and virus scans.

I installed 64bit before this 32bit one on another partition of this HDD but cannot boot into it anymore at startup because this PC won't let me select it because it does not detect my keyboard in DOS mode for some weird reason.

A:Snail Speed Pc At Times And Always Slow Internet Speed On Vista Ultimate

I found this helpful information on possible solutions, very familiar with errors on previous Microsoft operating systems. http://www.vandersluijs.nl/content/view/973/96/lang,enI uninstalled one of the suggested updates and so far it is fine, the update was only optional so no security threats. I think it has helped, not certain if it will be like a fresh install because windows is slower than it was two weeks ago. If 3 weeks is best windows can handle for being ready for a new install I may have to go back to Linux. I hope this thread can stay on this forum somewhere to help others follow the link I posted above for possible solutions to this problem, it will save them time and effort trying numerous things.

I moved into a city that has 1gbps fiber and I got it. I set my computer up to run Ubuntu or Windows 7 in the Ubuntu OS I have full speed, like 980mbps but in Windows I can only get around 370mbps, they informed me that it was a know issue which is why they carry around laptops with Ubuntu instead of windows to troubleshoot there system. Anyone have any clue on this, I cant even imagine where to start looking for the setting or fix. Thanks

1gbps is fantastic. I suspect the Windows problem is a driver problem. Did you check the Windows 10TP. Maybe they fixed it. But then, the really big chunks you can always download with Ubuntu. I envy you, LOL.

Hi,
I am transferring some large files from my computer to the laptop but the transfer speed is very slow.
Im sure that when I do it on my sisters laptop its like 9-10mBps, almost max bandwidth all the time but with my laptop its very slow. About 1/5 of the maximum bandwidth i believe.
They are all running windows xp with SP2.

Is there anyway which can make transferring of files use most or all of the available bandwidth on the 100Mbps ethernet network?

Are you talking about a connection through a router?

An ethernet connection is through a router, but you might be talking about a crossover cable, which looks the same as an ethernet cable, and has the same connection type (RJ-45), but is a connection between two computers.

Hi,

I just bought a new router the ASUS RT-N56U .

After setting it up getting ISP provided information everything seemed to work fine but i then i done a speedtest with the ethernet cable plugged in and it would start off at 8Mb/s then would instantly drop to less than 0.5 Mb/s Here is a picture of what it looks like http://prntscr.com/7z9jcl I don't know how to fix it because when im on wireless only it works perfectly fine is there anything i can do?

A:Solved: Get huge speed drop on ethernet cable not on wireless!!!

There are a lot a variables. How is your cable made? Is it a store bought cable? Did you make it? Is it run or is it just laying on the floor run from router to PC? A little more info might help but ultimately it might come down to without being there to test the actual cable and NiC we won't be able to know for sure.

I was thinking about T1 but I didn't know if anyone thought that would be overkill or not. We are currently looking into Bellsouth and Comcast since we currently have Comcast, but I have had better experiences with Bellsouth. If anyone could give us some tips I would really appreciate it.

Download and still around KB s Upload Now when I used to get the KB s Up and Down speed on this computer I was actually connected directly from the cable modem to the computer through USB I tried to connect a USB wire from the router to my computer in place of the ethernet This caused an old problem on my computer where a message quot explorer has caused and error in lt unknown gt quot No matter what this message keeps coming up So I used system restore I am using WinME and now the computer is working fine again Something with connecting it though the USB isn t working So now I am thinking maybe using a shorter ethernet wire might help Maybe the long wire is what is killing the speed to my main computer I already ruled out that the problem is the modem OR the router since the other computers are still getting good speeds So I guess it is something connecting the router to the main computer I think I am going to try a shorter ethernet wire anyway but I was wondering what you guys thought And if you had any other ideas I am willing to here them Thank you once again for your assistance nbsp

A:Help with the speed of my cable connection. It is good on my other computers...

I'd try a different cable, and also a different port on the broadband router. If neither of these solve the problem, it's either your Ethernet board or a configuration problem. Pretty hard to say without actually seeing it...

The way to debug something like this is to start eliminating variables until you're down to one piece of the jigsaw puzzle.

I have used a couple in the past and they have caused more problems, than they are worth.
As for improving speed and performance - did not work for me.

Hello, I just got this x360 Spectre i7 15.6" laptop and I love it, except for the speed at which things load on the browsers. I have high speed internet and ran a speed test and the speed is as it should. I've tried multiple browsers, and even though I have a very strong connection to my high speed internet, it takes forever to open up even a single website. I regularly wait anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes for the site to load. I just got this computer so haven't even saved any files or installed any programs onto it besides anti virus software. How can I resolve this very slow loading time? I'd hate to have to return this computer, but cannot stand to have to deal with these frustrations with a computer I paid $1300 for!! Please help! Katy

A:My 2TB WD Green has fast write speed but slow read speed

The Rosewill card's transfer rate is "up to 1.5GB/s." The WD hard drive's is 3.0Gb/s. Perhaps if you set the jumper on the 5-6 pins to activate the 1.5GB/s rate per this instruction: Western Digital.

Here is an As SSD for my WD1002FAEX 1TB sata 6GB/s mechanical hard drive

Here is the same test on my Intel 80GB X25 M

For an OS drive the advertised speeds really mean nothing to the average user unless you are going to be transferring large files all day. The most important thing is access time- how long it takes from the time you push the button until the application actually opens. No spinning circles with a good SSD.

Hi all,
I want to connect my VCR to the computer to transfer old home movies to DVD.
The Analog to DV device requires a 1 GHz processor. Mine is 498 MHz.

Regarding the speed, will the device work only slowly or not at all?

Thanks!

A:Solved: Video capture device speed vs. processor speed

It is not a matter of slow or not at all. It is most likely a matter of dropped frames. If you have a cheaper video capture card [one without hardware decoding] it will probably work however you will not like the result.

Video editing / encoding is cpu intensive. I would hate to think how long it would take to encode the video file after you capture it [with that cpu]

To give you some idea, it takes me about 15 min to encode approx 1hr of video with an intel dual core cpu. With yours it will be hours.

Hi; I have a Dynalink router and on plan which I get really nice speeds for me (downloads a few megabytes a second), using Windows XP via ethernet.
However as soon as a laptop is also plugged in also via ethernet and streams videos, the internet on my Windows XP computer is so slow, web pages can barely open.
Is there anyone to somehow make both of them at least able to both use the internet? What's the problem? Thanks in advance for any help
