Preferred Solution: Screen Freezing, search engine redirect and black screen when starting the computer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have come to this site because I seem to be having the same problems as sin2000. My Google searches are being re-directed to spam sites, Internet Explorer (7.0) is running very slow and often crashing. I have run Spyware Doc to clean out Spyware Protect 2009, but it seems link there are more problems.

I've attached the files requested in the guide.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 Desktop computer and whenever I start the computer up it goes to a blank black screen with a flashing bar in the top left hand corner. Usually it does this for a second and then continues to load but it jus stops there and the computer isn't working or anything. Yesterday it was fine and now its doing this. I don't know if its something really easy to resolve this or not but any help would be much appreciated

A:Starting computer leads to black screen.

This morning when I woke up and turned on my computer instead of going into windows it started with a black screen a movable cursor After about minutes it finally loaded into windows but it was very slow it took about minutes to open Chrome and was nearly impossible to use I have tried start up repair and restored the computer but it didn't seem to work It is Computer screen when black with very cursor starting. slow, still horribly slow Because this computer is only days old I haven't gotten around to installing an antivirus yet but the only things I have installed so far are Steam Team Fortress Bandicam Skype and Java I do not believe I have been to any unsafe webpages either I tried going into Safe Mode and it seemed to be working faster but opening things like control centre still took longer than they should Also I just noticed that after waiting nearly minutes for Chrome to open in Normal Windows a popup has appeared saying quot Your preferences file is corrupt or invalid Google Chrome is unable to recover your settings quot I am not sure if this has anything to do with what is happening but Computer very slow, black screen with cursor when starting. I have not experienced this popup before The computer did come with all of the disks and boxes of various parts Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you I am also not sure if this is the right section as I'm not sure what is causing this problem sorry

A:Computer very slow, black screen with cursor when starting.

You found time to install all those program but couldn't find time to install something that is more important than any of them; a anti virus program.
After downloading all that stuff you could be infected or have a bunch PUP's.

I recommend going here to make sure you system is clean before doing anything else.

Today I noticed my computer taking a very long time to load up. Something happened that it had to do a CHKDSK scan , I didn't go on any new websites today and I didn't download anything. This happened after I saw my computer was at the password screen, I don't remember turning it on though. It must have been at the password screen to log in for about 20 min or so. Ever since that my computer is barely able to load up.

Specs:

win98
duron 750
elements mobo w/onboard sound
via chipset
rage fury pro 32mb agp video card
64 megs ram

Problem:

Everything was working fine. I haven't made any changes to my computer. At this time games won't play. For instance THE SIMMS. When the menu comes up and I select to play, the screen goes black. I have seen this posted on this board but the info does me no good. I have direct X 8 installed. My display adapter is current.
The one thing that did happen befor the problem is that my sound was choppy. So, I removed my sound device and reinstalled. That took care of the sound problem but my games won't play. So, I removed my display drivers and reinstalled. Same problem. What could be causing this black screen considering everything was running fine?

A:Fresh built computer is freezing on starting windows screen

To try to save the current install you'll have to get a disk to boot to follow steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot for repairing Startup or System restoring.

Reset BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

If this fails go over the build to check for loose or faulty cables or connections.

Wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command from DVD using DISKPART At PC Startup

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes or overnight.

Hello,

I am new to this site. My computer seems to freeze often. Unfortunately, a freezing episode occurred during a windows update, so I turned off my computer even though it says "do not turn off your computer". Ever since I did this, when I try to turn on my computer, the BIOS loading bar goes to about 4/5 the way before it stops and goes into a black screen with a white cursor on the top left. I also cannot access safemode by repeatedly pressing F8. What is wrong with my computer?

Thank you.

A:Starting up computer leads to black screen with white cursor on top left.

Please do the following.

Instructions for a Windows 7 Repair installation.

A Windows 7 Repair Installation will require a installation disc.

If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc you can download a free legal ISO image of Windows 7 SP1 at  Windows 7 Forums.  You will need to download the same version of Windows 7 that you have installed,  This image is hosted by the Digital River store which is an official distribution partner of Microsoft.  This is a genuine untouched image which is safe to download.

Attention:  If you do have a Windows installation disc, skip Part A and go to Part B, Step 1b.

Part A, Steps 1a - 6a

How to burn ISO image using Windows Burn Disk Image.

Notice:  This applies only to Windows 7 and Windows 8, earlier versions do not have this.

1.  Place a blank CD or DVD in the tray of your optical drive and close the tray.

2.  After you have downloaded the ISO image you want to burn right click on the Start orb, then choose Windows Explorer.

3.  When Explorer opens click on Downloads in the left pane.  Scroll down till you find the ISO file you want and double click on it.  Click on Burn Disk Image.

4.  In the image below you will see Disk burner:, this should be set to the optical drive you want to use.  Click on Verify disc after burning if you want to Windows to verity the disc image after burn.  Click on burn.

5.  In the image below you can see that the green progress bar, when the image is finished burning the bar will be filled.

6.  After the image has completed being burned click on Close.

Please note:  In order to boot from this DVD you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so that the CD/DVD-ROM is the first device in the boot order, and the hdd is the second device.

Part B, Steps 1b - 10b

1b)  Place the installation disc in the tray of the CD/DVD drive, close the tray and restart the computer.

2b)  You will be prompted to press any key to start the installation, I find the space bar handy.

At this point the setup process will load files, this will take several minutes.

3b)  You will now need to choose the  Language, Time, currency format, and Keyboard or input method that you'd like to use.

After this is done click on Next.

4b)  Click on the Repair your computer link at the bottom-left of the Install Windows window.

This link will begin the Windows 7 System Recovery Options.

5b)  System Recovery Options will now search your hard drive(s) for any Windows 7 installations.  This will take several minutes.

No participation is required on your part at this time, wait till it has finished and the next window opens.

6b)  Choose the Windows 7 installation that you'd like to perform the Startup Repair on, then click on Next

7b)  Click on the Startup Repair link from list of recovery tools in System Recovery Options.

For a future reference, there are several other diagnostic and recovery tools available in the Windows 7 System Recovery Options including System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, and Command Prompt.

8b)  The Startup Repair tool will now search for problems in the system files.

If Startup Repair finds a problem with any system files the tool may suggest a solution which you will need to confirm, or may solve the problem automatically.

9b)  Startup Repair will now attempt to repair whatever problems it found with system files.

Note:  If Startup Repair did not find any problems with system files you won't see this step.

Important: Your computer may or may not restart several times during this repair p... Read more

Hi all,

this is my very first forum post here, few people have recommended this site as a best W7 community on the internet.

I have problem with black screen(lag) between windows starting message and login screen, lag is about 10 seconds and its very annoying, here is the video so you can see the problem:

maybe this is normal? i have this install almost two years, i dont have to much programs, and i disabled almost all useless startup programs. I tried also disabling bootscan in my NOD32 antivirus but nothing changed.

Is there any solution for this? and can i post to you some logs or something?

Best regards

A:Black screen between Windows starting and login screen

It is Dell's factory install? Usually it is bloated up with some services and programs those are not needed. So you need to clean them up. Follow this guide:

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan/rootkit.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please refer to Microsoft's Online Safety article for tips on creating a strong password.

Do not change passwords or do any transactions from the infected computer until it has been cleaned.

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper.

Save this Notepad file as CFScript.txt to your Desktop and then close the file.

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript onto ComboFix.

If you are prompted to update ComboFix and have an internet connection, please choose Yes

Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please post that log, ComboFix.txt, in your next reply.

Please re-enable your antivirus before posting the ComboFix.txt log.

Please describe your plans for an antivirus.

To be clear, you are claiming the Windows Install on SATA HD #1 is only messing up on System #1, but works fine on System #2, but at the same time System #2's HD works fine with System #1?

That eliminates a lot and points to: RAM likely suspect, get a MEMTEST CD and run it on System #1, you can find that info here in tutorials.

Before this happened, I could put my computer on sleep without any problems. Now, when I put it on sleep, I turn it on, the screen freezes. I shut it down, start it again, and then the Loading Windows freezes. Another problem is a small one I felt like adding, is that the Windows 7 screen where it is loading up your computer, doesn't show for me. This is not a problem where other users could not log on. All mine does is have a black screen, then loads to my desktop. So it works fine, just that the screen doesn't show. Please help.

Can you boot into safe mode (F8)"
Do you have the win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

Do you have a backup, by chance?

Hi My father reports that his computer has been running slowly for a while and has reached the point now where it is almost unusable The computer is a Dell Vostro running Windows XP Professional I have been working on it unsuccessfully for the past two days and have noticed the following Internet Explorer is redirecting from search engines to strange sites I tried installing Firefox but Firefox redirected also The computer gives an error message at the log-on screen quot SQLDUMPER failed initialization Your installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with Please uninstall then rerun setup to correct the problems quot There are at least two strange programs listed in the Startup section of MSConfig I cannot type their names because they are a collection of ASCII or Wingdings characters that I cannot reproduce I disabled these programs in MSConfig but they are still around The computer is extremely slow and will hang for etc. engine lagging, Search redirect, computer minutes at a time Most virus scans cannot finish in normal Windows so I have had to run them in safe mode I have tried Malwarebytes SuperAntiSpyware CCleaner and a couple of other scans that my father had installed on his computer There is no firewall running at the moment Search engine redirect, computer lagging, etc. though Windows Firewall may have been enable at one point He does not appear to have multiple anti-virus programs running simultaneously A Search engine redirect, computer lagging, etc. lot of malware has been cleaned out today and it s possible that the redirect has been fixed but the other problems remain and the computer is still horribly slow and completely unreliable He currently runs ESET NOD Antivirus which I will not uninstall because this laptop doubles as a business computer and that program was put there by his office IT guy I would very much appreciate any help that anyone here can provide Thank you MVB

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Please note that the fix may require more than one round to properly eradicate. Stay with me until you're given the "all clear", even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete.

Kindly follow my instructions in the order they are presented, and please do no self-fixing or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper at this forum.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

==============================

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

Please read this: How Do I Handle Possible Identity Theft, Internet Fraud, and CC Fraud?

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.

How to disable your security applications

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

# Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note: Please make sure that your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled. A reboot should have done that.

The computer I am having issues with was built this past March Up until a couple days ago it would only take about a minute to start up to the Windows log in screen Now once I push the button to start it up it will stall for seconds to a minute on the motherboard splash screen and a further - minutes on the Starting Windows screen Once I am able to log in and it continues to finish loading the screens are black for a good - minutes while everything loads Once it is up I have no problems with the computer I spash on Screen MOBO Starting Stalling and Windows Computer screen have run full anti-virus and spyware scans Computer Stalling on MOBO spash screen and Starting Windows Screen removed recent downloads done a disk clean up and a disk defragmentation Help would be appreciated EDIT When the computer is stalled on the MOBO splash screen and the Starting Windows screen there is no indication of HDD activity the light on the tower is not lit I can tell it is going to continue with start up because the light will start to flash again

A:Computer Stalling on MOBO spash screen and Starting Windows Screen

Hello woodsgirl and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since the problems started "a couple of days ago" I'd try restoring my computer to a date/time prior to when the problems began.

System Restore

Whether this solves the problem or not I'd next run a full scan with your preferred anti-virus. Even if it comes back clean (nothing found) I'd run a second, or even third scan. Some free recommended products are:

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

SuperAntispyware

If the problem wasn't solved with a system restore I'd next try a startup repair.

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

If still no joy I'd check for damaged or corrupt system files by running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.)

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If all of the above has failed to solve the startup problem I'd look through these two tutorials by one of our Forum experts. He offers some additional troubleshooting steps and possible fixes.

Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

A:Help! search engine redirect trojan on computer. Need help removing!

can anyone help me with this?===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take several days, perhaps less, to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses.Thank you for understanding.Orange Blossom ~ forum moderator

Hi I have an XPS M computer running Vista but not service pack which is about eight months old From the very beginning the computer had problems When you turn it on it loads normally until the log on page where the screen is just black But the music still plays However after a few tries it finally loads the log on page and you can use it It was annoying especially since I sometimes had to turn it on and off over ten times before it would load but it still worked Unfortunately now when I press the on button the screen is just black I m not sure if the computer actually loads because black Screen starting when up is it never plays the music Though for some reason when I close the lid for about seconds straight after I ve turned it on then open Screen is black when starting up it again the screen that asks whether you want to load windows normally or load in safe mode appears The one that appears when you haven t shut your computer down correctly If I choose load windows normally the same thing as before happens it loads up until the log on screen then goes blank Except now no matter how many times I try it won t load The computer works in safe mode and I ve been trying to find a solution but so far haven t found anything My dad thinks that it s a problem with the display so I tried changing the display resolution to standard VGA and I tried booting in low resolution video but neither made any difference I also tried following the advice here http support microsoft com kb en-us but I was unable to locate the displace device inf file I am definitely not an expert at computers and I have absolutely no idea what to do next I m not even sure what the problem is Any advice would be greatly appreciated nbsp

A:Screen is black when starting up

This sounds as though you have a graphics card driver problem. You indicate that the display is ok in safe mode, so apparently the display screen (LCD) is working. I would uninstall the display adapter and then reboot and let Windows pick up the hardware and install it again. If you can identify the display adapter,(Control Panel, Device Manager) there may be a driver update on the Dell website for that model. A quick check of the Dell website shows that there are several updates to various devices/software for that model. If your laptop is "about eight months old", there may be updates that you need to install. I would recommend that you put SP1 on Vista also.

A:Black screen after starting up

Restart the computer, just after the memory count and before the windows loading message start tapping the F8 key, this should bring up the startup menu, choose safe mode.

Once in windows go to start/settings/controlpanel/display properties/settings tab, redo your settings and reboot.

I'm not very techy and I'm on my moms computer but I got my laptop in August. And I got hit with a virus and I was in the middle of getting rid of it when my laptop shut down and now it seems to be stuck on the "Starting Windows" Page. You know the one where it says "Starting Windows" And it's usually either black or blue with a swirly circle? It's right before you have your login data. Well, I'm on that page and it doesn't seem to want to go past that. I have Windows 7 and I don't know what happened. I ran the Start-Up Repair and I tried starting in Safe Mode but nothings working. Help please?

When I restart my computer ( HP Pavilion zd8000 - WindowsXP Professional) I get a new Black screen giving me 2 choices.

1) WindowsXP Professional will start in so many seconds. ( and it does )

2) Start instant PC Recovery Drive.
If I chose (2) I says I need Windows root\system32\hal.dll.
It then says I have to re-install a copy of this file??
When I go into Windows explorer I can see it's there.
How do I reinstall this file and from where.

What does this all mean ???

Thanks for you help in advance.

While playing a game, I left my PC, when i returned the screen was showing the desktop at the wrong resolution. There was no response when i attempted to use the mouse/keyboard (ctrl alt del etc.). So I turned the pc off and back on again manually. When the boot sequence reached the 'starting windows' screen, the loading bar filled and then the system froze. It continues to do this.

I have tried the hard drive in a friend's PC and it boots perfectly. Please Help!

The problem persists on a stripped system with hard drive connected and no sound card. Also i have tried changing the video card but no improvement.

Hi Guys I ve got a Dell Studio running Windows Home Premium SP The screen has always been an issue but recently appears to be worse Most times I restart the machine it starts up with a blank screen Luckily I have an external monitor that I would prefer to use to extend my desktop so I can still use it and there s absolutely no problem displaying externally I ve used both VGA and HDMI Laptop starting black up with screen? - both fine If I continuously switch the laptop off and on it will eventually start up on the main screen so I know it s not broken but times out of ten when I restart next it will be back to black By the way I Laptop starting up with black screen? sometimes need to switch off on or times before it works I know it s not drivers because it s black from the start I don t even get the DELL logo I ve also formatted the whole machine a number of times which did nothing to help and checked all drivers with Slimdrivers Does anyone know what might cause this Can it only be hardware related at this point A loose connection or problem on the motherboard Does anyone know a trick so that I don t have to do the afore mentioned to restarts everytime Something that will force the laptop to recognise the screen The main screen also lights up very slightly when it s switched on so it s not like there s no signal at all reaching it My warranty is gone so there s no point in me contacting Dell Any help is much appreciated Thanks nbsp

The other night i was on my laptop looking around when it randomly shutdown on me. Now when i tried to start my laptop up i get this black screen Windows had installed some stuff that afternoon i do not know if this is the cause of it. I can not start up in safe mode or anything. When i start up in safe mode it gets stuck at a driver then goes to tried to boot up then i get this blue screen thats there for about half a second then my laptop restats its self. That is what happens every time i start up my laptop. Except when i use startup recovory thats just takes me to the black screen

A:Black Screen After Windows is Starting

Since the startup recovery failed, I would think that the next step would be a repair install...unless you have a backup image that you can restore from.

EDIT: Before trying the above, I can recall some saying that running the startup recovery multiple times might help...like maybe 3 times.

Hi,

Since a few days, I have a black screen after Bios finnished starting and before the 'Microsoft Corporation' bar at bottom is blinking, so that I need to manually shut down drastically with the power OFF button.

This occured only if I 'm working on my laptop during a few hours.

If I'm working for a few minutes and I shut down my laptop, I can start without any troubles.

I tried to fix it with 'Repair my Computer' (F8) at starting up. Also I tried SFC and CHKDSK command in normal mode during the user session and a restoration to a previous point.

Please, help me to fix this issue, thanks.

A:Black screen when starting my laptop

I've just noticed that if the laptop is off during a few hours and I start again after hours, I got this black screen. I meant that when I'm working during all the day and then I go to bed. I will OFF my laptop but on the morning, when starting again, this black screen is appearing and I couldn't reach the session windows page.

This, not occured if working a few hours and after a few minutes, I start again my laptop.

A:Black screen on starting windows 7

Hi windows7s and Welcome to TSF,

You do need the Startup Repair CD or the Installation DVD in order to proceed with this issue. When you put the CD/DVD in and rebooted, did you ever get the "Press any key to boot cform CD/DVD..." ?

It sounds to me like you didn't get that message and that it went straight to the black screen again. In that case, you need to modify the BIOS settings to allow the CD/DVD drive to boot before the HDD.

Press DEL during startup.
Look around for BOOT Priority/Boot devices, make sure CD/DVD is set to 1st boot.
Reboot, and press a key when prompted.

A:Black screen when starting windows XP

We need a lot more information.
When you start your computer, do you get the computer logo? Or the POST DOS like screen that lists the hardware? Can you boot into Setup (Bios)?
Or when you start the computer is it totally black? Have you tried a different monitor? Do you plug your monitor into the onboard VGA in the back of the computer up higher in the case by the USB ports? Or do you have a separate Video card lower in the case? If a Video card, try re-seating it into the motherboard.

My Asus G -JH laptop is currently freezing at the Windows Starting screen I've read a lot of other forum posts that feature the same problem BUT Windows screen, Starting Artifacts freezing of top on there is artifacting bunch of colored dots on the top of this screen that goes across the quot Starting Windows quot screen in a sort of horizontal line Sometimes it just goes straight Artifacts on top of Starting Windows screen, freezing to the quot Windows has failed to startup quot screen None of the System Recovery Options from the Startup Tool seem to help fix the problem they've all been tried Trying to boot in safe mode doesn't work either as after it starts to load the files the artifacting appears on the top again after about the third file and it freezes I have not made ANY major changes to anything on the system for over two months prior Because of the artifacting seen I imagine the video card is fried or malfunctioning I called Asus and all they suggested to me so far was to reformat because apparently they think its a driver issue but I'd like to consider myself fairly tech savvy and believe that there has got to be a better solution that does not involve reformatting the hard drive as I had a lot of important data that had been stored and not backed up the previous night before the unexpected freezing The only things I seem to have access to is BIOS and the Startup Tool I have a System Recovery Disc too and am curious if there is a solution to this problem I am not well versed in BIOS and assuming the video card is shot if there would be a way I can access by data and possibly back it up before reformatting so I can persuade Asus support that my card is in fact shot so I can send it in for a replacement Thanks for any assistance

Hey everyone I have just finished scouring the internet from one side to the other and I am STILL completely stumped I have a Toshiba Satelllite A -S It is about - years old and it continues to run fine until today Some random Java update popped up Black Starting! Fan Screen, Not Blinking Cursor, my computer slowed down then it froze I held down my power button to turn off the computer pressed it again and NOOOOOO My computer booted to Black Screen, Blinking Cursor, Fan Not Starting! the Toshiba screen then turned black a blinking cursor appeared in the top left corner and the fan stopped Everytime I would try the same thing would happen If I touched any keys after the cursor appears and unpleasant high pitched sound comes from the speakers The only options I have are hitting F or F and neither of them seem to have a solution I tried removing my HD and something different happened It said to enter a disc boot disc maybe the problem is that I don't have my boot discs anymore Does anyone have experience or the technical knowhow to solve this I have found many topics on this but none of the solutions seem to work removing the HD taking out the battery and rebooting taking out the battery and unplugging and 'holding down the power button ' I did the last one to humor the poster I don't want to lose my HD I have a great many things on it and my laptop was performing brilliantly until java Any thoughts Ideas Help

Hey everyone,

Just another quick question, whenever I start up my laptop, I get a quick black screen flash on the Welcome page...

How can I get rid of this flash?

Thanks in advance!

A:Quick Black Flash on Welcome Screen when starting up PC!

I've got a Sony Vaio VPCEB47GM. It also has a black screen flash real quick at the Welcome page. I'm thinking it might be the Windows Boot Manager. In a dual boot set up you usually get a black screen like this:

Then you would select which operating system you want to boot into. Since we both apparently have just one operating system installed, I'm thinking this is just Sony's way of bypassing the Windows Boot Manager screen and going to the Welcome screen. And I'm not sure that there's any way to change the way Sony boots into Windows 7.

I'm using Win Home Premium on my Asus desktop and am not a PC expert but managed up. starting TIMES screen after at Black back to get things so that after minutes it either sleeps or hibernates not sure which it's called in a way where the power usage goes down to about watts and the monitor screen shuts off too I think the HD shuts down too Then when I come back and click the left mouse button I can hear some kind of motor start back up in the PC and it takes me to my password screen I enter it and go back to what I'm doing without the need to reboot I like it this way But SOMETIMES instead of waking up like that I just get a black screen and nothing - no way at all to wake it up I have to shut off the power at the UPS turn Black screen at TIMES after starting back up. it on then do a complete reboot from the power on switch Is this a flaw in Win that it does that sometimes

A:Black screen at TIMES after starting back up.

Could be just a transient glitch/bug. You say this is a now and then thing? How often? I'm sure the "motor" you hear is just the HDD starting back up (spinning). How often between times does this happen? In my experience, and others may differ, I've found its best to shut your machine completely off every now and then. Thats not a recommendation, o.k., as not all agree on this, but it works for me. If this happens with some regularity, you could 1.) run a memory test 2.) Run a sfc/scannow to check/repair any corrupted system files. I'll post links to our tutorials on how to do these. Just click on the blue link and follow instructions. Hope this helps!

Sometimes my laptop freezes when I put it to sleep with the power button by closing the lid or when it puts itself to sleep sleep screen on Sporadic freezing on Windows' 'Starting and automatically When I open it or move the mouse the screen remains black and I have to do a hard reboot When I boot up the computer at the screen with Sporadic freezing on 'Starting Windows' screen and on sleep a pulsing Windows flag that displays 'Starting Windows' sometimes the pulse freezes and I have to hard reboot The thing is these only happen SOMETIMES I'd say maybe times the computer will boot without a hitch and times it will sleep and awaken properly I haven't really taken any steps to fix this besides re-installing Windows and downloading the newest drivers Sporadic freezing on 'Starting Windows' screen and on sleep from HP's website however neither of these worked I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning but the boot-up problem started out being very sporadic and gradually got more and more frequent and the wake-up problem suddenly started one day The laptop is more than years old and has seen daily use but again I'm not sure if that's relevant

I m struggling to work this out - Windows -bit on a HP pavilion dv I rebooted about a month ago a few days after upgrading from vista to but maybe this is unrelated and there was just a black screen no cursor blink no bios nothing but the disc light is flashing then Windows startup sound goes off so it has booted after all I tried attaching an old VGA monitor and sure enough there s my desktop I close the lid in frustration and unplug the external monitor When I open the lid again the display comes on this time but its in x not x and when I try to readjust boot, windows but screen no starting at bios, IS black the resolution its just not available as black screen at boot, no bios, but windows IS starting an option - loads of other resolutions but not x So I install the latest nvidia driver flash the bios with the latest version restart but still the same Randomly once when I F into the boot menu which is appearing on the external VGA then do a save and restart from there the laptop display came on again boots into Windows fine at the correct resolution I use this for a month or so it sleeps and resumes no problem I didn t restart it everything working as it should Then the latest windows update comes along and requires a reboot and I m back at the same point - if I don t connect the VGA external then I ve got a blank screen no backlight nothing even though windows has started But if I connect the VGA put it into sleep disconnect the VGA resume from sleep then I ve at least got the laptop display but at the wrong resolution Any ideas is the graphics card shot Sorry for the long-winded explanation nbsp

I have a toshiba satellite laptop modelT135D and it doesn't want to startup I've tried all the options when I pressed F8 and still nothing. When I choose the launch repair option all that shows up is the cursor and a black screen and I left the black screen on for more than an hour and nothing happens. I've noticed though that when it attempts to start up the little bar after the windows logo loads up doesnt load up as well. This all happened when I turned off my laptop while the windows update was still going at 9 out of 11 . My laptop doesn't have a cd drive either.

I really need some help!

Earlier today I was using my laptop (AcerAspire) And everything was working normally. Now, as soon as the 'Starting Windows' Screen pops up the entire computer freezes, and a thin strip of dead pixels pop up at the top of the screen. This means I cant reach the desktop, and I can only access the menus through the F# keys. When it starts, I get taken to a menu that says 'Launch startup repair' or 'start windows normally'. Going through the repair tells me no solutions can be found, and entering any of the safe modes also freezes the computer almost immeadiatly. What can I do?

recently the monitor freezes started, then i had a bad memory stick , now every few minutes I get the black screen and the only thing to do is shut off with the main power button. what should I check and where to start, thanks.

A:freezing and then came black screen

This can be caused by a number of things.
The first thing to do is to find out if it is hardware or software related.
The best way to do this is to boot into the bios and leave it there for a bit.
If the problem arises when let in the bios screen then you know it is hardware.

Hi all, I got a Aspire S7-392 and keeps getting black screen on reboot or reboots with Acer logo or repair screen freezing.  When it freezes its all quiet and i dont hear anything from the laptop, however, when it goes to black screen the fans are running.  I got the laptop from somebody to fix it with tons of viruses and maleware.  I installed Windows 10 on it and it worked ok, but on one of the reboots the above problems started happening. I tried to do fresh reinstall of Windows 10 from the usb drive but i can't get the bios settings to save when i change the boot priority or make other changes.  Any help please?  Thank you

Hi All I've been having some problems with computer recently First while gaming my computer crashed I'll save you the details but eventually it got to the point where when I would try to boot I wouldn't even get a signal to my monitor I eventually guessed that the processor had failed I purchased a new one and installed it along Screen in Black "Starting Mode - Can't Safe Windows" Boot then with a cooler master fan and heat sink last night But now when I try to boot up I get the error message that windows was unable to boot I then have the option of either running the repair "Starting Windows" then Black Screen - Can't Boot in Safe Mode tool or starting windows normally I've used the repair tool twice and it hasn't worked either time I get the message that startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically The problem event name in the log is StartupRepairOffline I've also tried restoring to a point where my computer worked correctly and that didn't work either When I try to start Windows normally I get the Starting Windows screen then the screen goes black The monitor is illuminated but the screen remains black I can tell at that point also that the keyboard is unresponsive i e num lock and caps lock don't work When I boot up I am able to boot into BIOS but I can't boot in safe mode Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me out

When booting up windows 7 before the login screen the screen will flash(black) like a second and the windows start up sound is not in sync like it starts pretty low volume then turns loud during halfway of the sound. Then if I was shutting down windows 7 the screen by pressing "Shutting down" the screen will blink(black for a second) then show "Shutting down". I would appreciate if anyone could help out.

A:When Starting/shutting windows 7 a flash(black screen) and not in sync

I may be wrong but this sounds pretty normal to me. I see different behavior with different video cards on my Windoz machines.

ETA: Welcome to the forum, fine group of folks here.
