My laptop won't pick up a strong wifi signal

Q: My laptop won't pick up a strong wifi signal

I have a window's 8 laptop. It is about a year old. A few months ago it just suddenly stopped getting a strong wifi signal in my room. The wireless router is in the other room. I assumed that it was just our router, a belkin, and started using an ethernet cable rather then replace it. However, I am visiting my girlfriend and the router is in her room. I took my laptop to the other room and suddenly I only have one bar of connection and nothing will load, like it does at my house. Even sitting right next to the modem get 3 to 4 bar signal strength. I have no idea what to do. I have ran virus checks and malware checks. Nothing turned up. I tried checking to see if my wireless driver needed to be updated but it says that it's up to date and functioning properly, which clearly it isn't. My wireless driver is qualcomm atheros ar9485 802.11. Please help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use road runner cable internet from time warner I have a linksys wrt g wireless router that was purchased many years ago In our apartment we have computers One is a desktop The other is laptops One of the laptops we use is in a room very far from my room where the router Laptop Router Not Enough- Problem? or Strong Signal Wifi and desktop computer is located at The connection for the wireless is pretty bad so you have to go to the living room right next to it to get a better connection At first i thought i fixed this problem by upgrading the firmware as i have never did this before ever I upgraded it to firmware version for the linksys router At first it seemed like the signal got better from that room but now its as bad as it was before My question is what could be the problem I put my router on top of my desktop computer so it wouldn t be on the table where so many things could block it Thus its at the highest Wifi Signal Not Strong Enough- Router or Laptop Problem? point i could put the router Wifi Signal Not Strong Enough- Router or Laptop Problem? in my room So i tried something different Well i then brang my laptop to that room and went on the same site as the other computer and went to load the same streaming videos My laptop however the connection was faster than the other laptop in that room which is far away from where the desktop router is at Basically you can t even stream a video in that room most of the time but my laptop could Does that mean that my router isn t the problem since the wireless signal works fine for my laptop there whereas the inspiron r goes much slower My laptop that works fine for wireless is an asus laptop nbsp

A:Wifi Signal Not Strong Enough- Router or Laptop Problem?

Someone suggested to take the router out of my room and bring it to the living room so it would be closer to that laptop. I was going to do this but i cannot b/c there is a wire that connects from my cable modem to this other thing. I'm not sure what its called but basically it is connected to these wires on the top in my hallway. Does anyone know what that is called?

Someone suggested i could buy a usb wireless adapter like this
Does that mean plugging this into that computer possibly could make the connection stronger in that room? I'm thinking that the reason has to be because that laptops wireless card isn't strong like mine which is why? But would buying this solve the problem?

Someone said buy another router because my router is very old and to get an N router. Should i do this instead? The thing is i'm thinking its not the router fault as my wireless is fine with my laptop in that room. thoughts on this? And if i should do this, can someone recommend me a wireless router that has good range? There are soo many routers on with good/bad reviews and it seems like the good reviews they have, there are tons of bad ones as well.
Someone said my other option would be to buy some wireless extender. I checked amazon but aren't these basically wireless router with an extender?

A:wifi signal too strong.

if it has WPA on it, what's the problem? In a few routers I have used there is a power level, usually 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Don't worry about it, no-one can hack WPA, consider WPA2 if your router and clients can support it for the extra safe touch.

Hi. We've just upgraded our WiFi system at home, adding another router in order to strengthen the signal. I've now got full bars on my Macbook, but weak signal on my WIN PC and Android phone.
Any idea why this is happening?

I have a Netgear CG3000D-RG cable modem through Charter, and the connection is absolutely perfect when connected with an ethernet cable, but any device connected with wifi constantly drops out (even in the same room)...sometimes every 10 or 20 minutes, but just as often it will happen over and over constantly. Disconnecting and then reconnecting fixes the connection entirely until the next drop out. It doesn't get slow or anything, it's either on or off.

Any ideas? Maybe a setting I'm not aware of? Or is this a hardware failure? The last thing I want to do is "rock the boat" with Charter because I'm afraid tampering with equipment might make my whole connection unstable again, like I've had so much trouble with in the past.

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
enter you details
Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )

There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

Alternative links - Use the links below
Do NOT use any of the download managers offered - Cnet , just use the direct link below - and click on the download button
Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

To post a screen shot of the active window.

Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
Vista or Windows 7
you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool
Windows 8 & 10
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool
(From the Windows 8 Start Screen, or windows 10 Search, type "snip" and press enter)
(From windows 10 - All Apps>Windows Accessories>Snipping Tool
>Press the Esc. key.
>go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button
>Press Ctrl+PrntScr button to use Snipping Tool

My mom's friend brought over her laptop and said "All of a sudden the WiFi stopped working". So I turned it on and I looked at the device manager. It said it was working fine and that no new software was needed. Then I checked to see if the laptop had a switch to turn the WiFi off, but it didn't. I looked more through it and I am very confused. All it says is that there is no networks available. It's a gateway from best buy running Windows Vista (Sorry for coming here I do know the website is windows 7). The Model Number is: MD7818u

A:Wireless Laptop: Strong Signal, No Internet, No IP Address...Help

Since all was working fine and you report no changes, First thing to do is power everything down, PC, Router etc. Then bring router back up first, then the PC and everything else. See if you get an IP address then, If not your DHCP may have run out of addresses or just stoppped working, Also make sure that the network cable has not worked it's way loose somewhere.

If that all fails, go into the router settings and see what it's IP address is and set your PC up manually with IP/ Default gateway/ DNS setttings

Good luck

I'm having trouble connecting a laptop (Vista) to a wireless network. It's a Linksys modem with the D-Link AirPlus Extreme G Wireless Router.

The signal is strong; always Very Good or Excellent, but the moment it connects, it immediately disconnects a few seconds later and I am unable to use the Internet whatsoever. Nothing I've done so far has been able to resolve the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Wireless network with two macs and one pc-- all was working great, with wpa2 protection-- but then changed to WEP (because my Olive Musica only uses WEP) and reconfigured the computers. But now only the macs work. The PC connects to the network and sometimes shows a strong signal and sometimes show limited connectivity, but in no case connects to the internet. And when I try to configure the pc it ultimately reverts back to the WPA and when it opens available networks it describes the network i use as a wpa network, even though i reconfigured the whole thing to wep!
If I sound like I know what I'm talking about, alas I do not. But I have tried opening, redoing, reading info, and everything else to get my pc back on board this wireless network.... but nothing seems to work.
What do you think? Thanks for any and all help. best, charlie

Hi I was with an ISP for a month I used a router and named it AAA let's just say I initially put a password for it It was working for all but one roommate she couldn't connect at all so we made it open access since we had unlimited internet We used it this way for about weeks but that didn't work for her either so we decided to switch The internet pick can up still even old ISP I wifi Laptop cancelled though service was terminated the next day and then Bell came in the day after to install Bell gave us a modem but we used the same router I reset everything again and connected the router to the Bell modem Bell had given us the login name and password and we could all successfully connect We're a month into using internet with Bell but today I realized that my laptop could still pick up AAA signal still unsecured I decided to try connecting to it and the internet worked I'm wondering if this is because we used the same router If I use the AAA signal will it take up some of Laptop can still pick up old wifi even though I cancelled ISP our Bell internet usage I have no idea what's going on Any help would be appreciated Thank you

A:Laptop can still pick up old wifi even though I cancelled ISP

When you mentioned Bell's login name and password, you did not specified if that was for wireless or not.
Does Bell's modem has wireless capability as well?

Is Bell's modem ADSL(telephone line) or cable? What kind of connection was supplied by previous ISP (cable or ADSL)?

But likely if you have connected your router to Bell's modem, router has no other option than to take usage from Bell's modem.

If you can't answer my questions, you could just provide us with model numbers for those both hardware units. You can find model names on devices themselves (on little stickers with small print).

He said it didn't need an update. Is it the iBook or some other issue?

Your numbers are a little inconsistent. You show 15 Mbps, but say "used to receive at least 1-3mb" and "usually get to 50mbs." 15 Mbps seems typical for cable service in the US.

This problem has been persisting for a while now, ever since I set up wireless home network. I have have a WRT150N Linksys Router that gives off a perfectly strong and reliable signal I have the computer in my office effectively hardwired from the router and the computer in my son's room is connected to the network as well. For whatever reason, other than my son's computer, no other device will to the network. My phone, wii, and laptop all recognize the signal as being strong, but none of them will actually connect to the signal. I have considered that maybe the chimney which is in the center of the living room may be scrambling the signal, and my son's room is not in line with the chimney. Any other ideas or suggestions?

I picked up a nasty virus over the wknd, but finally got it wiped & my pc is running normally, except for the internet. I cannot connect to it. It shows I have a strong signal, & I also have a LAN, but there is no communication between my laptop & internet. I've tried resetting winsock; ipconfig shows NO ip, & I continually receive a "unable to query host" error. I've checked drivers & reinstalled drivers on the network cards, downloaded MS Mr. Fixit tools, etc, all to no avail. I have not reloaded XP. I suspect there should be a quick & easy registry fix (I hope). Any help is appreciated.

I attempted to open web-page, however there is no web-page and instead I've been getting the following message along with 'Diagnostic connection problem,' although there is always strong Internet Connection/Comcast.

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
There might be a typing error in the address.
If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.
Any solution to this would be truly appreciated.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I have two home PC's, a 2wire 1000hg wireless router/modem. One PC is running a Buffalo wireless PCI adapter and working fine. The other is running a netgear WPN311 pci adapter. This one picks up the signal but never connects. I am using windows configure the device and even tried to have it repair the connection but it comes back claiming that it is unable to renew the IP address. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Strong signal, no connection one pc but connecting on another

Usual cause is a faulty key or incorrect SSID, first thing to do is deactivate the security on the router and see if you can connect, if so the problem lies with either of the aforementioned.

If you cant connect the fault is with either the network card or the software, swap the cards around and try them in the other PC.

Logical progression will bring the answer.

Can anyone recommend a simple and inexpensive way to boost the WiFi reception signal strength of a Laptop.

When I am away from the office I often use WiFi Hotspots to connect to the Internet. Some Hotspots are very good and provide a good signal, but the strength of other Hotspot signals is often very poor. If you check the signal strength it is often so weak that connection is not possible or frequently drops out.

If possible I would prefer not to change the WiFi card in the Laptop but rather use something like an antenna to boost the received signal.

So I have a super weird issue going on here.

I live in a house where there is a wifi network, umm its through comcast but i know nothing about the router itself, just that i cannot connect to the network, everyone else in the house gets 5 bars from the signal but i get only 1-2 and cannot stay connected.

Now i can connect just fine to my own wireless hotspot on my phone, from the library or starbucks, and everyone else can connect to the home network with no issue, except for me....

does anyone know why this might be?

I just reinstalled the OS on my laptop, and would like to know which drivers or download I need to access the internet via wifi.  I get my signal from a free wifi public wifi.  When I set up, it asked if I connected to the internet through a cable or another option, I think I incorrectly chose cable, should I reinstall?  Or can I just download the proper drivers and be able to find a signal from there?
I access the internet on another computer and transfer whatever I need via USB.  Thanks for looking.

whats a good router that gives a decent signal, my computer is across the house almost from the access point, and the D-LINK router i have is junk, picks up a horribily weak signal. It works good when my labtop is across the room or maybe 1 - 2 rooms over but if i go upstairs its horrible. I admit it is a cheap router, was wondering if i bought a Linksys router for around $50-65 would the signal be stronger, so i can access the network even when im upstairs. ??

OK, last night I was using my Toshiba L305-S5581 laptop that I purchased last week. I have been connecting to my 2Wire wireless modem fine all week. Slow, but fine. So, after searching some posts for speeding it up, I saw that it could be issues with either Mcafee or Norton. I had Norton, so I deleted it. Then I temporarily disabled my windows firewall. After I did those two things, I lost my connection. I have a strong signal from the wireless modem. However, I get a limited connectivity message. Im getting frustrated. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Additional information: I have attempted to hardwire to modem. Same issue. I am using Vista. Currently Im on my old laptop, which has no issues connecting nor does my wifes.

I am using a Linksys 2.4 ghz router in the basement of my house. On the second floor, I have a laptop. It is an iBook with an internal wireless card (airport), which has been receiving minimal signal upstairs. I thought it was just a dead spot, but I added a linksys usb adapter and the signal began clearly going from very strong to out of range every couple of seconds. Why is this changing so rapidly? How should I aim the router's antenna/ usb adapter for maximum range?

I should also note that i have 900 mhz cordless phone a few feet away and a 2.4 ghz phone about 30 feet from the laptop (both upstairs).

We have an open wireless network in the office and people come and go and can connect onto it with no problem as long as they are set up for wireless.
On all other computers there are no problems, however on this computer Explorer 6.0 can not open a single page. The computer identifies the network in range and signal strength is strong, everything looks fine. However, it shows that “packets” have been sent but nothing ever gets received and a box gets displayed with a red cross that says “Windows could not open the search page” when you try to open a webpage.
I have been through all the Wireless and Connections settings and have compared them all to another computer that connects to the network and I can not see what the problem is.

maybe its something simple?

help or ideas would be great

I'm using a new Asus AC68U router. My home network includes, among other items, my desktop and my laptop (a Dell XPS 15). The laptop occasionally drops the wifi on the 2.4 GHz band. Everything else on the network handles both bands fine. The laptop has been holding well on the 5Ghz band. How do I determine with the 2.4 Ghz band if the problem is the laptop, the router--or both? How do I diagnose this problem? I should mention that all the laptop and Asus drivers are up to date. Thanks.

I just installed a D-Link wireless router (DI-524). The network shows up with a strong signal when I do a site survey from my laptop (Dell Latitude D400), but it won’t connect to it. I’ve tried connecting using both the PC’s built-in wireless card and also the USB wireless adapter (DWL-G122) that came with the D-Link kit, with no luck. Other relevant facts:

--I have no trouble connecting to other networks with the built-in wireless card
--Tried changing my network's channel; didn't help
--I’m sure I typed the WEP encryption key correctly
--Laptop is only 3 ft. from the router, no barriers or interfering devices present (2.4Mhz phone, monitor, etc.)
--Router has the latest firmware upgrade
--Tried several network mgt. utilities (Dell’s, D-Link’s AirPlus, Network Magic), including their “repair network” features

Hello to all Let me say Thank You right from but wired. signal only connects hard Wireless strong, the start I have enjoyed the lessons I have learned by browsing your forums and it appears the time has come for me to ask a question myself I currently have a Belkin g wireless Wireless signal strong, but only connects hard wired. modem as well as a belkin g wireless card I just moved into my new house today and signed up for Comcast service I can connect quickly using a hard wire from my motorola cable modem but whenever I try to connect wired or without wires using my belkin router I obviously get nowhere My setup worked fine at my other Wireless signal strong, but only connects hard wired. place just a few miles down the road and I have no changed a thing from yesterday to today I did notice that the quot internet quot icon on my router flashes in a consistant manner but i do not remember if this is normal I have researched the forums and done several of the suggestions for simular problems to no avail Any help would be GREATLY appreciated Thank you so very very much Jimmy oh windows xp service pack belkin wireless g f d - haha nbsp

A:Wireless signal strong, but only connects hard wired.

Since it's a new place let's start with a "new" router. Reset it to factory default settings. Then with everything off/unplugged connect modem to router's Modem port and computer to a LAN port. Power up, in order, modem, router and computer.

You're now working so you can configure the wireless to your liking.

In the very unlikely case that this doesn't work remember to power cycle (unplug) the modem when switching back to the computer directly connected to the modem.

Hello, I have 2 PCs in my home both running windows 7. My PC is directly receiving internet (10mb/s broadband). I have tried a few times to set up wireless for my mother who has her PC in the other room. The problem I have is that all though her PC recognizes the signal from my wireless, when I try hit connect, nothing happens and it gives me troubleshooting options.

The signal strength is excellent, I entered the WEP key manually to the correct KEY when adding a new connection which everything seems fine.

I can connect to my neighbours wireless fine, even though the signal isn't as good as my wireless.

I am using a NETGEAR Wireless-G Router WGR614.

My mothers PC is using a NETGEAR Wireless USB Adapter WG111v3.
I installed the driver for her USB and have tried the software provided to connect as well as windows 7.
Maybe I'm missing something simple?

It sounds like (or should I say reads like) you already did--the wireless card is the culprit. Overheating seems like a reasonable possibility given the gradual fading.

Hey all, first timer here!

My moms laptop connects to our wireless just fine. When i moved home recently with my perfectly working desktop, it would find the wireless connection but have only limited or no connectivity.
I just bought a brand new netbook (Asus EeePC) and it locates our wireless connection just fine, says it has strong signal, but can not connect to internet. It says it is acquiring network address and then tells me that it couldn't.

I've done some google browsing and have tried a few suggestions, but to no avail. (Checked firewall, disconnected & reconnected, etc).. =(

Help! Pleeease and thank you!

Hi. First of all, I'm not really good in networking stuff so I don't know many terms but I'll do my best to follow the instruction properly.

Now the problem: I'm using windows xp computer that connect internet with wireless usb adapter Aztech. It used to work properly with internet at home. Then one day, when I brought my pc back and forth from my uni and to my home, it suddenly not working. It said limited connection. I tried to dc and re-connect but it's still not working. So I found out that it is the IP address is the same as the default gateway so I change the gateway to the router address. Now it has strong signal but no internet.

So what should I do to get the internet back?

A:Solved: Strong signal but no internet, pc with wireless usb adapter

Try following this post from Johnwill in the order he suggests.

Some things you can try here, listed in the order you should try them.
For wireless connections, remove all the stored wireless profiles and search for networks. You'll have to enter the encryption key again, which is sometimes the issue for connection problems.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues. __________________

Please help, this is to strange for me to understand

I have a external usb wireless device which has a strong wireless conection to my D-link wireless dsl router. The PC which is connected by cable can browse, and connect to router setup page.

The wireless PC is able to ping the router as soon as I change the TCP/IP settings to manual within the routers range eg.
( also set as default gateway, don't know what value to put in DNS fields), but still unable to browse or get onto router setup page.
As soon as i change the settings to automatic config, wireless stays connected but unable to ping router, as computer makes own ip way of router range.

I need to get wireless pc to talk to router urgently please

A:wireless signal strong and connected, unable to browse

Sounds like the DHCP isn't enabled on the router.

Logs onto it and take a look around, there should be an option in the menus.

What model is the D-Link?

Please HELP!!

A:Wireless Connection: Signal Strength Strong but Irregular Internet

I?m actually having some problems with my WLAN as well. But since no one else have answered here yet, I can tell you about two things to check for:

1. wireless phones and similar things should be kept away from your computer and router.

2. I changed channel from the default 6 to 11 and things seemed a little better after that. Make sure that you have a different channel than your neighbors.

A:wireless internet showing connection and strong signal but no connecction??

If you have encryption enabled, try w/o encryption until you get a successful session.

First determine if the problem PC is really communicating with the router when it claims to be connected.

To open a Command Window: Start - Run &#8211; cmd (command in 98SE) - OK

To determine a computer's IP address and router's IP address: open a Command Window and type
ipconfig /all

The "Gateway" is the router's IP address.

Now for some troubleshooting. Following is how to use ping to test for communication with your router, the internet, and the internet with symbolic name.

1. On the PC open a Command window and type
ping IProuter (where IProuter is the IP address of the router)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

IF you got replies,
2. ping (or any other internet address you know)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

If you got replies,
3. ping (or any other internet name)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

Anyone know of a wireless router for dsl and cable that can send the signal far enough to go across a road and to go about 1/4 of a mile down the road.

A:How far can a wireless router pick up signal

Any router can do it with a directional (c)antenna. With the supplied stock antennas you have no chance.

You do not need to scribble out the names on that screenshot, since it will do nothing for any of us. That signal graphic is just like on a cellphone. It does not mean anything. There are a lot of factors why you can have great radio signal, but have interference causing a blackout or outage. If you want to see a snapshot of all signals your wifi adapter is seeing, open up a Command Window as administrator and type it 'netsh wlan show all'.

A:Why won't my Nook HD pick up on my wifi?

The names some of these wee gadgets have... Nanook of the north was coming to mind when I saw "Nook"...B&N I presume is Barnes & Noble...; and likely they have a more or less open wifi system for customer use. They almost certainly will have another more secure one for staff/business use...Is your home wifi using any form of access control; Mac filtering at the least? Can you logon to your router's wifi section (admin pages) and check to see if there is any form of restriction in force?Typically it can be MAC filtering - only those MAC addresses listed may connect; or those MAC addresses listed may "not" connect. Also does your Nook use the same encryption control the router is set to use - the form of password that is set in the router - WPA and/or assorted variations? What make and model is your router?

Do you have another user account on this computer? Are you able to see the Network indicator in the notification toolbar on that account? Follow the steps in this documentto create a new user account. If you do find that the icon is in the notification taskbar, you may also use those steps to recover from a corrupted user profile.
Let us know if this helps.

This is an issue I've been struggling with for several weeks. I have reviewed all fonts and believe all necessary fonts are available. I do not have Lucida Grand, but I have Lucida Sans, Arial and Verdana.

Browsers Chrome, Firefox and IE all render <strong></strong> or <b></b> as normal text - not bold. The same webpage in other Windows 7 machines in my office render correctly. These PCs have nearly identical configurations.

I will be grateful for any suggestions from the forum.

Oh BTW, this is my first post in any of your forums. If I've posted in the wrong forum, please let me know.

Hi and welcome to Sevenforums!

I've never heard of such a problem, but if it's related to fonts you could test in Firefox to set browser.display.use_document_fonts to 0. In about:config. Default is 1. That will make the browser use only a few standard fonts.

Besides that you can check the default font in these browsers. In Firefox:
You could also bring up Web Developer by pressing F12 and inspect your web page to see if any warnings or errors there might be causing this.

Here's some HTML code you can test with to see fonts and bold in action. Note that when browser.display.use_document_fonts is 0 most fonts will look the same.

HTML Code:
<font face="Arial">Arial&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<B>BoldTest</B></font><br>
<font face="Arial Black">Arial Black&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<B>BoldTest</B></font><br>

I just purchased this computer (Windows 7 OS), and the wireless detects the home system I am on, but when I type in the key it says "wrong key"

It labels the system as a WPA-PSK, 802.11g

The desktop my parents use works just fine with the wifi, I have already reset, turned off/on the wireless router.

What should I do?

A:Strong WiFi connection, "wrong key"

may i know the make of the wireles router and the model number

If you had to chose between this:
and this:

Which would you pick?
The HP would be customized with the T8100, left at 2GB RAM, the 8400 GS, fingerprint reader, wireless N and bluetooth, the 320GB hard drive, and the lightscribe burner.

I'd go with the Hp myself. It is a bit cheaper, and you'll be getting exactly what you want in it. Unless for some reason you need it fast (in which case, buy from newegg), then go with the HP. Hope I helped! Oh, but if you do get the Hp one, I'd possibly consider getting a warranty just incase. But thats just me.

What's the best laptop I can get under $530?

It has to be Best Buy cause of $120 giftcard.

I'm pretty much going to do everything with it, including a bit of gaming like world of warcraft at the highest, nothing too hardcore.
