Can't access websites but can update

Q: Can't access websites but can update

Hi,

I just launched up my PC (W7) and there is a red cross on the bottom right where the network connection is.

Everytime I launch IE it freezes everytime I launch up firefox it just doesnt load up although I can connect to Skype fine and update software.

This is really werid, sounds like a viruses blocking internet browser and displaying a cross because I have internet as I just updated my software.

Virus and spyware scan came up clean

Any ideas,

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Can't access websites but can update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

1+2 are real issues that *can* impact you regardless of the network settings, so you may go thru a lot of work and still have issues left over :sigh:

What has changed? Did you install hardware/software or tweek some settings?

Hello all,

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running Windows XP Pro SP3. I am not able to access the Windows update sites with Internet Explorer or Firefox. I.E. says it's unable to display the page and Firefox just gives me a blank page. I've tried uninstalling IE back to 7 and reinstalling to 8 - both with no luck. There's a ton of answers out there but everything I've tried doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.
GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again. If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

Hello,And welcome to BleepingComputer.com, before we can assist you with your question of: Am I infected? You will need to perform the following tasks and post the logs of each if you can.Malwarebytes Anti-MalwarePlease download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.SUPERAntiSpyware:Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware FreeDouble-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. If it will not start, go to Start > All Prgrams > SUPERAntiSpyware and click on Alternate Start. If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):Close browsers before scanning.Scan for trac... Hi reach/access websites, Cannot websites timeout I hope I have posted this in the right forum apologies if I haven't Here is the problem I'm having I bought a HP ENVY t just over a month Cannot reach/access websites, websites timeout ago For the first week days everything was fine I have a good internet connection with TWC and the wireless modem router I got was perfect Then I started to notice that I could not access some of my usual websites I would type in the Cannot reach/access websites, websites timeout URL press enter then wait and wait as opposed to just a day or so previously when I reached tte site instantly Some of the sites would eventually after a minute or so some longer appear but then not completely the graphics pictures were missing links on the side of Cannot reach/access websites, websites timeout the pages were not there Initially I had thought that it was a problem with my internet connection so I called TWC They checked at their end and then checked the modem router and pronounced that there was no problem with the internet connection And sure enough when I tried to download files from the office I had no problems at all I could access the servers and download large files without a problem as fast as I did before the problem started I then called TP-Link My Modem router is a TP-Link Archer CR I thought that there might be some kind of intermittent problem They too checked everything with the modem had me run some tests and while the modem worked perfectly I still could not access an ever increasing number of websites Just on a hunch I went online with my Samsung tablet and I had absolutely no problems at all I was able to surf watch youtube videos download files from the office and generally stay online without any slowing down the entire evening Here is a list of some of the sites I cannot reach when using the Envy-t Windows bbc combbc co ukmicrosoft com nbsp nbsp nbsp google com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp In fact I can't reach any google related sitesyoutube comgmail com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp I can't get access to my email except via my cell phone or tabletyahoo commsn comespn comabc commsnbc comzdf de nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp German news siteard de nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp German news siteHP com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp I'm using my travel laptop to type this uppresto fmlast fmfacebook complayer fmOver different web story and poetry sitesrugby comIPL Indian premier league cricket websitewikipedia comAndroid store sitessamsung comwindows forum sitesTED comTEDX comudemy comkhan academyrosettastone comspace comskymap comnasa govesa orgquora compocket comonedrive comdropbox commediafire com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp cloud service like dropboxopensubtities orgallsubs orgsubtitlecube comthefreedictionary comThe list goes on and on One of the first things I did when I got the laptop and had internet access was to download Zone Alarm I installed it after first getting rid of McAffee I have been using ZA for almost years and it has served me well and never caused a problem I have tired to access some of the above named sites and others after first switching OFF ZA but there was no difference Access to those sites was just as bad without ZA as with I am at my wits end I can't think of anything I might have installed that would cause this kind of problem I use Firefox and Chrome and with Zone Alarm covering the three bases - firewall anti-virus anti-malware - I don't use any other security software I switched off MS firewall just before installing ZA on the second day nbsp I have been using my travel laptop for the last couple of months while travelling but now that I'm back I want to get this problem fixed Thanks for your help

Let's see if we can get a GMER log

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:

@echo off
copy /y gmer.exe omer.exe
start omer

Save this as run.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files" next to gmer.exe
It should look like this:
Double click on run.bat & allow it to run

Then, use these settings to produce a log.
If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ... Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

I contacted my credit union and they are not having any problems with their system and they do not show that I have been trying to login so I have not been locked out. I have googled this question and tried suggestions that I feel comfortable with such as deleting history & cache, disabling pop-ups, and adding trusted website. I'm computer retard but follow directions well so please be specific. If I have not given enough information, I apologize but being computer retarded prevents me from know what information is important. I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7. This is the error I get,

hey guys, my buddy's PC can only access one website that supposedly promises to remove a virus from his system. he's running AVIRA and it picks up no viruses. i tried running it and it picks up nothing. he can't run any programs either.

is there any way to remove this thing or does he have to re-install windows? he just backed up his word documents onto an external HDD, there are photos too, but those wouldn't be infected right?

thanks

Do you use other download manager that installs add-on\extension into the browsers besides of the default download manager? If yes, try to disable the add-on\extension for a test.

Suddenly I can't access many normal websites. This just started today. I can go to earthlink.net but can't check my email. I can go to the NC DMV but can't search driving records. I just get a message that the page cannot be displayed.

What information do you need?

Thanks,

I later then tried to go to my grandparents house who also have the same ISP; but the games homepage did run well... Both computers have Norton Security Suite, and Google Chrome. I am running a wireless desktop with a integrated wireless card. What could be wrong? I'm also windows 7, I get this error when entering a page [Error 10 (net::ERR_ACCESS_DENIED): Unknown error.]

A:Cant access some websites?

It means that you are not allowed to goto the site for some reason, it's been blocked. That blocking can be done by any firewall, other software, or devices in the network.

Hi Guys hope you're all well I have an issue with a certain website As some of you know I play a lot of poker online its almost like a second job for me but for the last week or so I have been unable to access Online Poker Play Texas Hold'Em at Betfred com Up to Bonus The page will not load nor will any access websites some Cannot webpage associated with Betfred I have spoken to them via email Cannot access some websites the site is not or hasn't been down for any time at all in the past week and I'm not banned or blocked in any way I can access it if I use my phones internet connection with the laptop I can access my account using my friends internet with a different ISP I can also access it if I use an online web proxy although very slow - Hide My Ass Free Proxy and Privacy Tools - Surf The Web Anonymously I have spoken to my ISP and they say they to cannot access any site associated with them and have emailed but as of yet have not had a reply so were not overly helpful Can anyone shed a light on what the issue may be as I'm not getting a clear answer from my ISP and up to a week ago it was working fine Why would the whole network even my friend who is with the same ISP be unable to access the site Danny

A:Cannot access some websites

Almost sounds like it could be a DNS issue. Did your ISP mention it at all?

Anyway if you haven't yet, try using a DNS server other than your ISP's. You can change it from witin Windows,

DNS Addressing - How to Change in Windows 7

or easier if behind a router to make the change there.

Recently I had a problem with my computer, but I pretty much fixed it, and now the only problems are that google usually redirects me to another site the first time I click a link, and I have to right click & press explore to access my local disk (very annoying with modding ).
More recently, I have noticed that some websites, including the downloads for updates to several applications (including anti-virus (AVG)), and one of my favorite sites, fail to load in Mozzila Firefox AND IE. The favorite website in question DOES work on my other computer, which uses the same internet connection. I have cleared my temp folder, looked at every section of my browsers options, my anti-virus options and my firewall options, and the strange "hosts" file, which doesn't seem to have anything in it. Any help is appreciated.

Hey everyone, I'm currently on a Dell laptop with Microsoft XP. Recently, I haven't been able to enter websites like facebook and myspace, although all my other sites work fine. This problem has never occurred with me and in fact, I share a network with the other 5 computers in my house yet they seem to all work fine with the exception of one other computer. I suppose the problem is related to the network because my brother's computer is also un able to access these sites. We are the only ones with windows, however, while the others are MACs. I've tried everything from firewall settings to scanning for viruses. Any help?

Hello all -

I'm having a problem whereby I cannot access any websites. I know that the computer is reaching the 'net, but for some reason I can't reach any sites. All I get is "The Page Cannot Be Displayed." Underneath this line are some suggestions on how to fix this, all of which I've tried to no avail.

I'm using Internet Explorer 6 with XP.

My eMule still connects, but only with a Low ID. (But this is how I know I'm still connected.)

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

A:cannot access websites

Hello and welcome

As this is a school laptop, they would have settings inplace to stop students from accessing these websites and only using the laptop for school purposes.

Because of this we can not help you with this problem.

Please re-read over the forum rules.

Hi Friends,

Recently I used CCleaner utility software to clean my computer. As a result now I can not access certain websites that I have been using regularly. When I key in URL of a site it indicates " Page can not be displayed" I uninstalled CCleaner and reboot the computer but the result is same. I use IE8 and Firefox browsers; no difference in results. How can I access the websites I was using before?

I'm afraid that I'll have to re-install windows and other all softwares again. Maybe this Ccleaner messed up my computer specially theRegistry. I can access only Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail without any problem. While some websites won't open at all some take 30-40 mins. to load the first page. Even the 'techsupportforum' website took over 30 mins. just to bring log in page. No graphics are displayed at all.

Help me Pls. Appreciate your early response.

Thank you,

Trojan.busky
the file name is nweipeg.dll, under system32

Norton reported everytime when I opened a new tab in IE. But it cannot do anything to it.

If I opened IE, it said "cannot find 'file:///c:/secure32.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct" after clicking it twice, I was given a blank page. My homepage is google.ca. I can access it after typing the address again. But dunno what happened. BitDefender reported the "secure32" defected and moved it. >.< I dont know whether it is because of this that it showed that message."cannot find 'file:///c:/secure32.html'

Now, everything sucks. I cannot open lots of websties, even windows update, also, mmorpg.com .... They are just totally blank and footage showed that it is "done".

Could anyone help me? Thank you.

A:Not able to access few websites

Lets clear your DNS cache and see if that helps.

Run "Command Prompt" In administrator mode
Run the command
"ipconfig /flushdns"

Restart your browser, see if that works for you.

Hello All;

I have been around to many forums and tried a lot of things to fix this problem. No matter what browser I use, certain websites automatically go to "Not Available". However, on another PC on the same network it all works fine.

Here are the things I have tried:
1. Public DNS
2. Cleared my DNS
3. Cleared My Browsers Cache
4. Restored Defaults under Internet Options
5. Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and Avast Scans
6. Trend Micro Housecall Scan

I have also started in safe mode and tried to browse these sites, which works. So I disabled a majority of my start-up programs and still no go.

If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you checked your system for Virus/Malware etc.? To be on safer side that is the first thing to look at.

Please go to Virus and Malware Removal Forum, and follow their 8 steps then post the logs for analysis. Kindly be patient as people over there are usually very busy so they may need some time to get back to you. Regards

Hello Just wondering if anyone has had similar situations and know how to fix it I assume the fix is pretty simple but I don't know what access Can't websites certain I should be doing Basically it seems that certain websites are either not accessable or only partially load Most websites I access are loading no problems no issues with speed etc But for example when I try to access the usual news website I use or Netflix they fail to load The news website is one issue where it just says a connection failed to establish Netflix takes ages to load and then loads like a blank HTML white Can't access certain websites looking version of the main page with my name which is usually what I click on the access my profile but nothing on the page is clickable I am Can't access certain websites using the latest version of Chrome but the same thing happens when I use IE or Firefox When I try to access the news website via my phone connected to home wifi it also doesn't load However when I disable wifi on my phone and try to load the news via G it loads no problems So I figure that means the problem then is with my connection somehow as opposed to a browser issue I tried using CCleaner to wipe cache cookies history basically everything and that didn't work So I'm wondering if there is anything else I can try Can provide more info if needed but not sure what else to add Be grateful for any advice

A:Can't access certain websites

First, try the Netflix speed test. The fact that it doesn't happen on 4G implies that its a ISP issue, but the blank page with your name sounds like a plugin issue. Try this test to test HTML5, and this test for Silverlight.(Assuming you have it installed).

If all that workes, and your Netflix speed is slow, try changing your DNS. See here to use Google DNS, but there are other DNS out there. If curious what DNS work best for you, try Google Namebench(green button).

I have others things to try but lets see how that goes.

A:Cannot access certain websites

HiJackThis isn't allowed anymore. Also, this is the wrong forum.

Right method.

So here's a toughie. I have XP, Earthlink DSL, and a Belkin Wireless Router. For a long time, I could access any website I wanted but one obscure one (thehotbutton.com), but now I can't access anything in the blogspot.com domain. IE, Firefox, and Opera just time out -- unless I use of the anonymyzer programs, then I can access the sites.

I'm fairly sure the problem isn't my desktop computer or spyware because A. I have the exact some problem on my laptop when I connect through my router and B. I can access the problem sites on other networks through said laptop without any problem.

I have gone through and re-set everything and tried adjusting MTU on the router, but nothing has worked. I know some spyware programs block sites and uninstalled spybot and ad-aware. Taken down the firewall, made the router a DMZ, etc. Any other ideas?

A:Can't Access Some Websites

Just a quick addition. I tried circumventing my router and I'm having the same issue. So it has to be the modem or my ISP. Any idea how I talk to them about this? It's kind of odd that it's the blogspot domain since there is drama about that India right now.

Thanks so much

A:Pop Ups, can't access websites

Hello and welcome to TSF.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link given below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Quote:

Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps

link at the top of each page.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

=====================

In the event that infection prevents our tools from running. The following tool will help running them.

If you have an active internet connection, copy/paste the links below into your browser, don't click them or the rogue might redirect. If you don't have an active internet connection, download the tools from another machine, and transfer them to the affected machine via USB flash drive.

Please download and run the following tool to help allow other programs to run. (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com)

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one. You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Admin

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.pif

Note: You will likely see a message from this rogue telling you the file is infected. Ignore the message. Leave the message OPEN, do not close the message. Run rkill repeatedly until it's able to do it's job. This may take a few tries. You'll be able to tell rkill has done it's job when your desktop (explorer.exe) cycles off and then on again.

At this point, you should now be able to run analysis tools.

Once the tool has run, do NOT reboot the machine, and then try to run DDS and GMER as instructed in our First Steps and post them in a new thread as this one shall be closed to put you back in the queue.

If for some reason the machine reboots, repeat the process. Again, try not to restart the machine.

A:Can't access several websites

can you ping those sites at all - see how below
Or there IP address - see below

Quote:

through my phone (that isn't connected to my internet connection

do you have wireless available on the modem and can you connect the phone to your network and see if its an issue

can you try the PC on another network, cafe, library and see if it works there

just to see if its a PC or if its a ISP network issue

check the host file on the PC

Checking the Host file
Open Notepad - Start> Programs> Accessories> and right click on Notepad select "Run as Administrator" to open a notepad
Now goto 'File' > 'Open' and browse to the HOSTS file - which will be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. - you may need to change the drop down box next to the file name:box from Text Documents (*.txt) to ALL Files (*.*)
The file should look like the info at the bottom of this post

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

Once you are finished, go up to 'File' and click 'Save'. Make sure to change the Save as Type: box to All files.
Otherwise, Notepad may add a .txt extension to the file which will keep it from working. If you don't have your system set to show extensions, it's easy to miss that.

For your information only
these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router.
The next two Ping google.com & Ping 209.183.226.152 tests the connection to internet. google is to test by name and the ping test using a number is checking that a connection exists without DNS.
these tests then confirm if there is a dns issue on the connection.

When attempting to access www.environment.nsw.gov.au all I get is a blank screen. I have started internet explorer without add-ons, tried compatability mode, reset privacy settings, typed in the IP address instead of website and added as a trusted site. But after all my efforts I have had no result. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise x64.

The page also has flash content. I will update flash, but I doubt that this could be the problem as no text or script opens.

Help please, with a very strange problem.

I have a router to which my pc connects directly through an internet cable, and my wife's over a wireless connection.

There are some sites which I can't access, but which my wife's pc can. eg www.metoffice.com. When I try to access it I get no response at all.

I have just changed to a different router with Sky but I had the same problem with my original router. When I connected through a broadband modem everything was ok.

Any ideas? thanks

The internet on my desktop is working fine via wireless but my laptop cannot access majority of the websites.

The following shows:

Code:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

You are not connected to the Internet. The website is encountering problems. There might be a typing error in the address. What you can try:

Diagnose Connection Problems

More information

After i click on diagnose connection problems, i get a message like:

'Windows cannot find the host name, www ..... using DNS

windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically, contact your ISP.......'
I have contacted my internet providers but because the desktop is working fine, they say there must be a problem with my laptop, but it was working fine before. How could i resolve the problem?

Help would be appreciated

A:Help: I Cannot Access Some Websites

Hello peeps I too can not access a few web sites...

Google and Yahoo being the most notable. I get an default message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

And says I may be offline, the webby maybe offline etc, now this ante the case as im posting this from the same OS and through the same router on the same browser.

This is a clean install, using both the 64bit browser and the std 32bit browser. I also have the same problem using Firefox and IE 8 beta.

Im also dual booting with XP and have no problems with any site, this leads me to believe Vista is at fault in either the settings or whatever...

I've gone though some of the TCP tut's to see if that would help, but no joy there. I've also tried resetting my router but that also proved fruitless. I have even tried entering the websites into the tursted site's list on IE

Lastly I have unistalled my AV software and turned off windows firewall and defender to see if that would cause the problem... but that did not help. Also running the cable directly from the router rather than the hub proved to be as usefull as a chocolate teapot...

I really dont want to keep loggin XP on just so I can access my web based email so any help in this matter would be greatly appericated.

Sys Specs -
AMD ath 64 x2 dual core 4800+
2gb ram
8800gtx
OS - Vista Home Prem 64bit sp1
Router - D-link Dir100 (wired via hub)

For some reason I am unable to access two websites Well two that I know of I am not able to reach them on this computer whether it is a wireless connection or a wired one I know that these sites work access I websites. cannot certain because I can connect to them on any other computer including the others on my I cannot access certain websites. home network both wired and wireless I am running Windows Ultimate -bit on an Asus G JH laptop I use Avast free version and Malwarebytes paid version and I do a manual scan with Malwarebytes every night as I go to sleep Avast is set to do its most thorough scan custom scan settings every morning at The two sites in question are Mod Edit Links removed Obviously I have not tried every possible thing because I am I cannot access certain websites. still unable to fix the issue But I have reached my wit's end on this one and I am officially calling in the brain trust I think it only fair to note that even though my copy of Windows updates and validates without issue it isn't exactly what one would refer to as legitimate I used it as a fresh install after I wiped Windows Home Premium and these sites worked perfectly before the switch As I had a bit of difficulty with acquiring the drivers I can allow that I may have overlooked something in the process The one common thread between these two sites that I know of is that they both involve illegitimate materials whether these are the programs themselves or just serials keygens They are not blocked by my ISP because I can still use them on all other comps in this house and this includes another laptop that has the exact copy of Windows that I am running on mine And I mean exact I do not get anywhere by disabling either Avast or Malwarebytes nor does disabling the firewall change anything Another piece of this puzzle is that I am able to access similar sites without issue I hope that someone is able to help me with this It is not a huge deal I just hate being puzzled Thanks in advance

A:I cannot access certain websites.

Hello BrandonWengerBefore proceeding, I would like to point out several details about our site that need mentioning in a situation like this.First, a warning for not only your benefit, but also that of others who may read this thread. The practice of using cracking tools, keygens, warez or any pirated software is not only considered illegal activity but it is a serious security risk. Cracking applications are used for illegally breaking (cracking) various copy-protection and registration techniques used in commercial software. These programs may be distributed via Web sites, Usenet, and P2P networks.trendmicro.com/vinfo...warez and crack web pages are being used by cybercriminals as download sites for malware related to VIRUT and VIRUX. Searches for serial numbers, cracks, and even antivirus products like Trend Micro yield malcodes that come in the form of executables or self-extracting files...quick links in these sites also lead to malicious files. Ads and banners are also infection vectors...Keygen and Crack Sites Distribute VIRUX and FakeAV...warez/piracy sites ranked the highest in downloading spyware...just opening the web page usually sets off an exploit, never mind actually downloading anything. And by the time the malware is finished downloading, often the machine is trashed and rendered useless.University of Washington spyware study...One of the most aggressive and intrusive of all bad websites on the Internet are serial, warez, software cracking type sites...they sneak malware onto your system...Where do trojan viruses originate? One of the biggest malware distributors on the Internet are serial/warez/code cracking sites.Bad Web Sites: MalwareWhen you use these kind of programs, be forewarned that some of the worst types of malware infections can be contracted and spread by visiting crack, keygen, warez and other pirated software sites. In many cases, those sites are infested with a veritable buffet of malware and an increasing source of system infection. Those who attempt to get software for free can end up with a computer system so badly damaged that recovery is not possible and it cannot be repaired. When that happens there is nothing you can do besides reformatting and reinstalling the OS.***************************************************Please note that the links have been removed in your original post. For several reasons, one of which is detailed above, Bleeping Computer does not permit the posting of links to such material. This is for the protection of both ourselves and our member community. Also, please be aware that Bleeping Computer does not, in any way, condone or recommend the hacking, cracking, or pirating of digital material including software. What you do is your business, but you will not receive help here on issues dealing with illegal activity.***************************************************Now, in regards to your issue, the first thing I would suggest is that you check your HOSTS file. Additionally, try pinging the sites you're trying to visit from command line and see if you are able to get a response. For instructions on how to do either of these, please let me know and I will provide them for you.~Blade

This only happens on one computer in my house so im sure it isnt an isp problem. the firewall and virus protection im using is trend micro's PC-cillin. i have scanned my comp many times over with no viruses everytime. I have also disabled PC-cillin's firewall and it still dosent work. Is this a virus PC-cillin isnt picking up or something else ? HELP (i use both IE and firefox)

I thought you guys might have an answer for this as its seems to point to XP as the guilty party.

My sister & friends have some websites they run. They live in different continents. Sometimes the websites dont open for my sister but her friends overseas are fine.

she just asked me for help. We're both here in the same house. They open for me on my PC but not on her PC. She's on Internet explorer. We have deleted the cache & cookies. Still no response. This issue is intermitent. AND without any input from her in the past, the website will start opening again without any PC/XP tweeking.

She has AVG & LooknStop Firewall. I cannot see anything that might restrict access in those programs. Disabling AVG doesn't change things.

I'm stumped. But then again I'm just an winXP user, not an XP enthusiast. Any clues?

A:Cannot access some websites

Maybe a DNS issue?

For better resolution, you might want to try:

Try using Google Public DNS.

Or, OpenDNS.

Have a public computer where I only want them to access about 15-20 websites.

It's a public computer for people to look up jobs etc... Is there anyway to do this?

Right now I'm trying to run through local proxy and putting down I only want to allow the "following sites" but some sites I list it still doesn't let me go there.

There an option to only allow .gov websites? or anyone have any other ideas how to go about this? Is ther something in group policies?

Any ideas are appreciated.

Can anyone help me please? I have had an on going problem for quite some time now, and is becoming rather annoying. I currently use IE through a cable connection and I am having a problem getting to particular websites and have to switch over to a dial up connection to access them. I have spent countless hours on the phone with the IT department with my ISP and have gotten no where except for there has to be something on my computer that is blocking these sites. I have removed my norton internet security, turn my firewall off, deleted all cookies, cleared all temp files, disabled auto complete, and still no luck with cable. Any other suggestions?

Hello,

When I go to google.com or gmail.com I get error "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error."
I can access yahoo.com and other various sites. Clicking on the links also work, but when I use the searchbox of say yahoo or msn, same issue is encountered.

I've tried below fixes but they didn't resolve the issue:
- repair the connection by left-clicking on the icon on the taskbar.
- used the cmd command to do netsh winsock reset / netsh winsock reset catalog.
- went to LAN settings to uncheck all, or to select "Automatic detect settings" only.
- ensured IP & DNS Server addresses set to automatic.
- renamed C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOST.bak to something else.

I have another PC connected to the same modem/router and it's working well.
PC in question is running on XP Home SP3. Thanks!!!

A:Can't Access Some Websites

Hi jctan, If you renamed this file "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOST.bak" to something else, you really didn't change anything. The .bak extension on the HOSTS file means that was already a backup.I would like you to go here and read and follow the instructions on how to update/replace your "HOSTS" file. You may want to try resetting both TCP/IP and Winsock on your computer to help with your troubles. To successfully complete this, you will need to be at a command prompt. Click on Start then Run. In the Run box type CMD and press enter. You will now see a black window with one line of text and a blinking cursor. You will next type: netsh int ip reset tcp.logThis will reset your TCP/IP settings.Next you will reset Winsock:You will type:netsh winsock reset sock.logWhen the Winsock is finished you will be directed to restart your computer. Type exit in the window and press enter. From here you will do a normal restart on your computer and retest your network connection.Hope this helps,

I can't access these two websites;

www.fileplanet.com
www.myspace.com

About 1 month ago I could access them, but now I can't.

I have tried deleted cookies and internet files etc... still can't access it.
I have turned off my firewall.... still can't access it.
I don't have any "parental" control blocking it...
I have run spyware and anti-virus scan... still can't access it.

What else is there to do?

A:I can't access these two websites...

I can reach those two sites without a problem. Hmm... I see you've tried all your
obvious ways.

I can gather from this that it is on your side and not the server or host of those sites. I suggest there is something wrong with your IE browser.

Download the browser Firefox (Click on Picture in my Signature). Try accessing those sites through that. Please post back if you still have problems or found out the solution.

Have a fun and computing day,
Grove

A:Cannot access websites

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download Hoster (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Hoster.exe) and run it. Choose the 'Restore Original Hosts' button and press OK.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D http://security.kolla.de/. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available.

Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident and make sure that TeaTimer is checked. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings.

Now click on the 'Spybot-S&D' option on the top left to go back to the main screen. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the 'Fix Selected Problems' button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix http://majorgeeks.com/download4392.html and install it over the current Spybot installation.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINNT\system32\iexplore.exe<<<this is not the valid Internet Explorer which should be running from C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software... Read more

The title says it all.

Using FF and XP2, on a (slowish) ADSL line, some sites just seem to take a long time before displaying. If, after 10 - 20 seconds of waiting, I hit the "Stop Loading" button and then the "Reload Current Page" button, they seem to come up almost immediately - this could just be co-incidence, though.

It seems to be getting worse. Is it anything I can check/change, or am I just being impatient?

TIA

Hi,

I have been havin trouble trying to acces some websites such as ebay.com, myspace.com, yahoo.com etc. When I try and access them I am redirected to a "Barcelona Hotels and city guide" website.
I am using Internet Explorer but I also have mozilla firefox which is giving me the same problem. Perhaps a Firewall problem? I am using Norton Internet security.

Any help would be great.

A:Cant access any antivirus websites

Hello and Welcome to TSF.

If you cannot access such sites, it's quite possible the machine is infected.

We no longer use HijackThis as our initial analysis tool.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Quote:

Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps

link at the top of each page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

My operating system is windows 2000. I use both Internet Explorer and Mozilla firefox 2 browsers. I recently used an advanced registry optimizer to clean out some errors on my laptop. I am still able to access msn.com using explorer; however, I get a bad request message when I use mozilla to accesss msn.com. I'm not sure what the issue is. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I have noticed recently this message that I get when trying to access a few websites:

Your computer (IP: 24.***.***.**) generates an attacking DOS requests at our servers caused by the spyware/virus named 'Troj/Rustok-N'

I have scanned my computer countless times to remove the trojan, but it doesn't work. I have Norton Protection Center 2008 and it's definitions are at the latest.

How can I remove the trojan from my computer?

Whenever I try to access any site that has https I get 'Cannot find server or DNS error'. I've tried turning the firewall off, adding port 443 to it, turning pop up blockers off, running ad aware and spybot s&d, deleting cookies, TIF files, and clearing history with no luck. There have been 2 secure sites which I could access through https (bestbuy.com and amazon.com), but no others. Any suggestions?

A:I can't access secure websites

Welcome to TSF,

Have you tried to add these sites to the exemption lists in the Firewall and IE Security?

Do you have a pop-up blocker switched on? If so, try turning it off whilst you gain access to the sites.

I used to have trouble with my Internet Banking sites until I did both of these things.

Try them and see what happens.

Post back with your results.

Kind Regards,

Dave T.
