I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

NOTE 1. Use another working computer to download necessary tools and USB flash drive to transfer them to bad computer.NOTE 2. Install Panda USB Vaccine, or BitDefender’s USB Immunizer on GOOD computer to protect it from any infected USB device.  Download Security Check from here or here and save it to your Desktop. Double-click SecurityCheck.exe Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.NOTE 1. If one of your security applications (e.g., third-party firewall) requests permission to allow DIG.EXE access the Internet, allow it to do so.NOTE 2 SecurityCheck may produce some false warning(s), so leave the results reading to me. Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and run it on the computer with the issue.Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet ServicesWindows FirewallSystem RestoreSecurity Center/Action CenterWindows UpdateWindows DefenderOther ServicesPress "Scan".It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste the log to your reply. Please download MiniToolBox and run it.Checkmark following boxes:Report IE Proxy SettingsReport FF Proxy SettingsList content of HostsList IP configurationList Winsock EntriesList last 10 Event Viewer logList Installed ProgramsList Devices (do NOT change any settings here)List Users, Partitions and Memory sizeClick Go and post the result. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.* Post the log back here.Be sure to restart the computer. The log can also be found here:C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txtOr at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txtDownload Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from HERE to your Desktop.Unzip downloaded file.Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exeFollow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.DO NOT click on the Cleanup button. Simply exit the program. When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log-xxxxx.txt and system-log.txt Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop. There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.Do not reboot until instructed. If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode. When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.Post it in your next reply.NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets.

A:Can connect to Internet, but cannot access any websites.

This sounds more like a virus or malware to me. Maybe something that has configured your host file or redirects everything.

A:Internet Explorer cannot access websites.

I would like to add to the above post please.

This has been an ongoing problem for 2/3 weeks. With the kind help of boopme we have tried to solve the problem with little success. My server sent a technician who suggested it might be problem with Microsoft. I had a reformat done, as you will see, a couple of days ago to no avail. Changing the browser does not make any difference.

The problem can suddenly go away leaving the computer working like new, only to reappear at any time. It can stop me moving from one section of a website to another and can affect logging into sites as well.

I hope the information provided is sufficient to ba able to resolve this extremely tiresome and inconvenient promlem.

Thanking you once again.

John

I cannot login to my credit union however I can login to my credit card and email. I have tried both Internet Explorer and Google chrome. I contacted my credit union and they are not having any problems with their system and they do not show that I have been trying to login so I have not been locked out. I have googled this question and tried suggestions that I feel comfortable with such as deleting history & cache, disabling pop-ups, and adding trusted website. I'm computer retard but follow directions well so please be specific. If I have not given enough information, I apologize but being computer retarded prevents me from know what information is important. I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7. This is the error I get,

Maybe some one knows the answer.

Following problem i have with a windows server 2003 and xp clients

Computers who are in the domain(for example: ws01.domain.local cannot access some websites, like microsoft.com etc. (also slow internet)
If i take a brand new laptop that is not in the domain yet,(workgroup) and put it in the network with a cable, i can access the site microsoft.com
We have a netscreen 5GT and windows server 2003 with XP clients.
You have any idea what can be the problem?

Greetings
Arno

A:Cannot access some internet websites while computer is in the domain

Are you managing the Internet connection with the server? If so, that's probably the difference. Another thing might be group policies established by the server.

What happens if you try to ping a non-working site from a domain connected machine? Don't use microsoft.com, they don't respond to pings.

Hi, I have a problem with my mom's computer. It's Windows XP. It started on Tuesday, I think.

We can access programs that use the internet, Computer games, Yahoo and MSN messenger, and stuff, but we cannot browse any websites. We use both Aol Broadband (my mom uses it mostly) and firefox for browsing. Aol won't even connect, but with Firefox, it just... sits there. It never times out or gives the "page cannot be found" thing, it just sits there loading. We've never gotten any kind of error that says there's anything wrong that could cause this. So after looking all over google for some kind of situation like this I've decided to post here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Some programs can't access internet, some websites won't load

AVG may be blocking those sites, it's hard to say. We suggest uninstalling AVG with the AVG remover, and restarting. Then install the Free Microsoft Security Essentials and see if that improves.

In my workplace, my employer is able to restrict internet access to only a specific list of websites by using a paid service. (I forgot the name of it.)

Now, I would like to do the same to my home computer. Is there any free method of restricting my internet access to a list of trusted sites, and block everything else?

(I tend to be clumsy and accidentally click on ads, causing malware to spread to my computer.) Currently, I only use a few websites frequently. If there are more trusted websites that I need, I will add them to my allowed list in the future.

There are other computers connected to my home router, but I only want to restrict one computer only. Thanks!

A:Any free method of restricting internet access to certain websites?

it's a lot simpler to set up a blacklist and block certain sites using the hosts file than it is to have a whitelist.

are you sure you want to have to 'add to allowed list' each single time you want to visit a new site?

what model is your router, and which anti-virus and firewall programs are you using?

oh, and what browser?

Don't know about Google or why IE should suddenly give you this error, but to check that a Proxy isn't being used in IE - go Tools/Internet options/Connections/LAN settings and ensure just the box for Automatically detect settings is ticked.

I noticed you have an alternate browser, CometBird.

Are you experiencing the same symptoms for CometBird as you are for IE?

If you haven't tried CometBird, please do and let me know how it behaves.

------------------------------------------------------

If you are going to use this machine online, you will have to install an antivirus.

Please download and install Microsoft Security Essentials:

Download Microsoft Security Essentials from Official Microsoft Download Center

Once updated, please run a full system scan.

------------------------------------------------------

I see you have P2P software ( BitComet ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

A reference for the risk of these programs is here

I would strongly recommend that you uninstall it. You can do so via Control Panel >> Programs and Features.

------------------------------------------------------

Please uninstall the following via Start->(or My Computer)->Control Panel->(Programs)->Programs and Features if it still exists:

PHPNukeEN Toolbar<<Please read this

Also delete the following Folders if they still exist:

C:\Program Files\PHPNukeEN

------------------------------------------------------

This tool will clear your temp folders, and clear your browser caches. Let me know if it improves your performance in IE.

Please download Temp File Cleaner and save it to your desktop.Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
Right-click TFC.exe then choose 'Run as administrator' and click 'Start'.
Your desktop will disappear, this is normal, it will return.
If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.
Your machine may startup slow the first time after running TFC.exe
You may want to reboot again, even if TFC already rebooted your machine.
------------------------------------------------------

Please download AdwCleaner from here and save it to your desktop.Do NOT click the green 'Download' button(if visible).
Click the blue 'Download now @bleepingcomputer' button.
Run AdwCleaner and select Scan
Once the Scan is done, select Cleaning
Once done it will ask to reboot, please allow the reboot.
On reboot, a log will be produced. It can also be found at C:\AdwCleaner\AdwCleaner[S#].txt
Please copy/paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
------------------------------------------------------

Check for additional security risks: Please download CKScanner? by askey127 and save it to your desktop.
Double-click on CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File. You will be prompted, just click OK.
Post the contents of ckfiles.txt in your next reply. It is located on your desktop.

I am working on a Pavilion P7-1410 desktop which shows having a good internet connection but won't open any websites. I have tried adding a wireless usb device with same results. Error "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection"
I also get DNS server not responding. I tried the diagnostics on this Windows 8.1 system and it only shows Port issue 316 .
I did flush DNS without any change. My other computer connects fine. TCP/IP properties show obtain auto on ip and dns
Thanks for any suggestions

A:Solved: HP Pavilion shows internet access but won't open websites

What evidence "shows having a good internet connection"?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi reach/access websites, Cannot websites timeout I hope I have posted this in the right forum apologies if I haven't Here is the problem I'm having I bought a HP ENVY t just over a month Cannot reach/access websites, websites timeout ago For the first week days everything was fine I have a good internet connection with TWC and the wireless modem router I got was perfect Then I started to notice that I could not access some of my usual websites I would type in the Cannot reach/access websites, websites timeout URL press enter then wait and wait as opposed to just a day or so previously when I reached tte site instantly Some of the sites would eventually after a minute or so some longer appear but then not completely the graphics pictures were missing links on the side of Cannot reach/access websites, websites timeout the pages were not there Initially I had thought that it was a problem with my internet connection so I called TWC They checked at their end and then checked the modem router and pronounced that there was no problem with the internet connection And sure enough when I tried to download files from the office I had no problems at all I could access the servers and download large files without a problem as fast as I did before the problem started I then called TP-Link My Modem router is a TP-Link Archer CR I thought that there might be some kind of intermittent problem They too checked everything with the modem had me run some tests and while the modem worked perfectly I still could not access an ever increasing number of websites Just on a hunch I went online with my Samsung tablet and I had absolutely no problems at all I was able to surf watch youtube videos download files from the office and generally stay online without any slowing down the entire evening Here is a list of some of the sites I cannot reach when using the Envy-t Windows bbc combbc co ukmicrosoft com nbsp nbsp nbsp google com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp In fact I can't reach any google related sitesyoutube comgmail com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp I can't get access to my email except via my cell phone or tabletyahoo commsn comespn comabc commsnbc comzdf de nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp German news siteard de nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp German news siteHP com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp I'm using my travel laptop to type this uppresto fmlast fmfacebook complayer fmOver different web story and poetry sitesrugby comIPL Indian premier league cricket websitewikipedia comAndroid store sitessamsung comwindows forum sitesTED comTEDX comudemy comkhan academyrosettastone comspace comskymap comnasa govesa orgquora compocket comonedrive comdropbox commediafire com nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp cloud service like dropboxopensubtities orgallsubs orgsubtitlecube comthefreedictionary comThe list goes on and on One of the first things I did when I got the laptop and had internet access was to download Zone Alarm I installed it after first getting rid of McAffee I have been using ZA for almost years and it has served me well and never caused a problem I have tired to access some of the above named sites and others after first switching OFF ZA but there was no difference Access to those sites was just as bad without ZA as with I am at my wits end I can't think of anything I might have installed that would cause this kind of problem I use Firefox and Chrome and with Zone Alarm covering the three bases - firewall anti-virus anti-malware - I don't use any other security software I switched off MS firewall just before installing ZA on the second day nbsp I have been using my travel laptop for the last couple of months while travelling but now that I'm back I want to get this problem fixed Thanks for your help

Hi, we have a bunch of computers(70 aprox) connected to a domain. Since couple weeks ago very strange issues started occuring, internet and network access(path to network share is lost) would come up at random times and on different machines and would last for about 10-20 seconds it would re-connect again.
All the computers are using private addresses.

Most machines are windows 7, some are xp.

Using Windows server 2003 as dc.

Since the occurance is so random it's very hard to pin point the cause, hopefully someone has come accross this issue in the past.

So today I was working on my computer, my norton antivirus expired and so I bought a new one. Well it wouldn't renew my subscription so I read on a website that you need to clear norton out of your registry. So I followed the directions and ever since I did that when I open a webpage it goes to a screen that says:

ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved
-----------------------------------------------

The following error was encountered:

- Cache Access Denied

Access control configuration prevents this request.

On top of that I get a similar message when I try to run live update. I have the computer hooked up to a linksys router with high speed internet. Please help.

Mike

A:Messed up computer and cannot access internet, page says cache access denied

Hmm, that's a good one. Try reinstalling IE or Firefox, whatever internet software you use. You might have inadvertently deleted an application cache file which the application needs.

Only other thing to do is boot into safe mode and select last know good boot.

When my computer says Internet Access, I am having trouble browsing.
Most pages do not load.
Right now, It says no internet access for over 15 minutes and I am able to brose so much better and still going on downloading around 400 kb/s.
How can this be? Why would it be?

(I am on a wired connection from a cable internet with NetGear CGD24G Cable Modem (I don't think it is a wireless router). There is wireless connection on the modem, but I am on a wired connection, and I am posting this while it still says no internet access).

A:Internet Access = Can't browse / No Internet Access = Nice Browsing ??

Hello,

Verify that your browser is not using any Proxy servers. Remove the setting if found.
How to Remove a Proxy Server | eHow.com

Make sure that 'Obtain DNS Server Address Auto' is enabled on both LAN and Wireless settings.
Change TCP/IP settings

An update will be appreciated.

Hi -- I'm new here and I'm not sure I am posting this in the right forum but my Gateway laptop won't access the internet and gives me the error in the network and connections w/ No address Can't IP Limited Internet find Access" "Connected Access, as quot connected "Connected w/ Limited Access" No Internet Access, Can't find IP address with limited access quot or quot local only quot My other computers connect fine to the router so its definitely my computer I have Vista OS -- Gateway online quot help quot said I have a defective network card because the IP address came back as a default So I bought a usb network card disabled my other one and still didn't work I tried an ethernet cable and that doesn't work either I also tried connecting to my city's "Connected w/ Limited Access" No Internet Access, Can't find IP address free wifi "Connected w/ Limited Access" No Internet Access, Can't find IP address with the same result System Restore didn't work I put my setting to find the DNS and IP automatically My Wireless network shows as connected -- I am just not able to get an IP I had previously had an intermittent problem with this and assumed it was the signal Now it just stopped working entirely I am thinking this must be a problem with Vista because the other network card and the cable didn't work either Any ideas on how to fix this

Abruptly internet access disappeared. It's a router issue, none of the computers here can connect. Further, I can't access the router through a browser - 192.168.0.1 results in a "Firefox cannot connect" message. I've tried resetting the DNS to no avail. I'm typing via cell phone and it's annoying, but I'm willing to try about anything.

A:Local access only - router not allowing access to internet

Hi brhanse,

Can you give us the make and model of the router. Also, do each of the computers connect directly via a cable to the back of the router; (example, there are 4 ports on the back of the router and each port has it's own cable leading to each computer) or, does the router connect to a switch and the other computers connect to the router through the switch?

Has this suddenly happened or have their been intermittent issues with connectivity recently?

I was working on my computer last night with zero problems. I shut it down and then today I have the following symptoms.

Once i boot, i can open folders on the desktop and open my firewall status etc. However as soon as i click on Firefox, open My computer and select any of the hard drives, or click on the Start menu and start to type in the search field, Win7 will freeze and explorer.exe will eventually crash without an error report.

It will simply tell me to end the process, after which i can only view the wallpaper and nothing else works. (No right click menu etc).

When in Safe Mode with Networking, everything works as expected. I can run firefox, navigate all 3 harddrives and search in the start menu.

I'm currently running a Malwarebyte's scan but i'm not sure if i really expect to find anything.

Any idea what it could be and maybe some suggestions to track this down?

Thanks!

You can use msconfig to help you diagnose the problem. Type msconfig in search and chose diagnostic startup (see pic). If that works you can then start adding startup item till you find the one that is causing the problem.

A:No access to Internet - Limited access for both wired and wireless

Welcome to SF,

Have you tried connecting your laptop to another Wi-Fi network or hotspot or somebody else's router and do a wired connection?

How about a wired connection to your Modem? What's the outcome?

I tried to find a relevant thread but no luck..

I have a small network at home that consists of 2 laptops in the same workgroup accessing the cable modem/gateway wirelessly and 1 desktop in a different workgroup accessing via ethernet cable.

The laptops have printer and file sharing enabled so that my wife and I can share files....duh

My daughter uses the desktop exclusively and I want her to have internet connectivity (which she currently does) but I don't want her having any access to the laptops.

Will this setup prevent infection of the other 2 machines if she gets a virus/spyware or otherwise downloads something unsavory?

I don't know if it matters but we also have a network printer with a static IP that we all can access.

Thank you for your help

hi
my son was on the internet on his IBM Thinkpad when numerous pop ups flashed up on the screen.

since then the program/document files on the c drive were all hidden, and we have been unable to get onto the internet.
i have managed to find the document files, but still no internet, and we are unable to access safe mode, or safe mode with networking.

when you try to go into safemode or safe mode with networking you get message saying a problem has been detected
you then have the option to go to the 3 safe mode types again. however this appears to be a never ending circle of error message, and back to this page!
the computer will start normally

any help will be most appreciated

gav

Hi, i encountered the following problem:
In normal mode (win xp pro) i could not access internet (no IE, no FF) neither update antivirus (nod32)
In safe mode i could run IE and FF but no aceess to antivirus sitres and updates.
I managed to run Combofix in safe mode. It found the rootkit and after reboot continued and produced the attached log.

Does anyone know how to read this?
Am i clean?

Thank you in advance!

I have had my laptop for around a year and a half now, I've never had one single issue. I moved into a new house in August with 4 different roommates, we all have windows computers, tablets, xboxs phones ect.. For 3 months my computer worked 100 percent never had an issue with the internet, and then all of a sudden I tried to connect and it won't connect to the wireless router at my house. Nothing has changed same router, same computer, same connection ect. I have tried everything, theres no itunes, no adobe, I have tried disabling ipc6 and it randomly will reconnect. Its entirely randomly, when I returned from winter break no one was home then it stopped working again randomly and stopped any help would be appreciated.

It's difficult if not impossible to nail this reoccurring problem down to any one thing as there are many possible causes and solutions.

Many of the solutions are covered in the link below, the comments show many other possible solutions that may help. I would read them all carefully and see if one of the solutions applies in your case.

I have a Dell Inspiron 700m and have recently developed problems accessing the internet. I have always used a Netgear wireless card RangeMax WPN511. Now I get "limited or not connectivity" when I choose my network but if I choose wifi network I can log on and access the internet..
I have disabled the firewall thinking that it may be the culprit but no luck.
Any suggestions?

A:Can't Access Internet Browser But Can Access Msn Messenger?? HELP!! HJT LOG Included

*Update* I Ran ComboFix and it seemed to have worked I am able to access internet now, I will attach the LOG sheet though in a few minutes===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take several days, up to two weeks perhaps less, to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.Thank you for understanding.Elise - forum moderator

I'm using Windows Home Premium -bit on a Dell Inspiron laptop and for some reason the Internet has stopped working sometime during the evening on the th of July in after I unsuccessfully tried to fix Just Cause by changing a setting for Data Execution Prevention from quot turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only quot to quot turn on access says limited It no or access. connected Internet sometimes but DEP for all programs and services except It sometimes says connected or limited access but no Internet access. those I select quot and I selected quot Just Cause quot and its shortcuts and I restarted my laptop for the changes to take effect I will explain this problem further in another thread It now sometimes says connected or limited access but unidentified network and no Internet access I don't know why the Internet stopped working after that The Internet only works in Safe Mode with Networking but not in normal mode I right-clicked the Wireless Connection icon clicked quot troubleshoot problems quot and the Windows Network Diagnostics troubleshooter loads and tries to troubleshoot the problem for a few seconds and it then tells me to turn off the modem for seconds and then turn it back on I've tried that multiple times System Restore Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and maybe Panda Antivirus to no avail I don't have this problem on my iPad my phones and some other devices only on my laptop I don't want to have to buy a reinstall Windows or buy a new laptop or computer Can you please help me fix the Internet on my laptop as soon as possible I'm posting about this from my iPad I took this photo from my iPad showing all the details with CMD Command Prompt

A:It sometimes says connected or limited access but no Internet access.

Hi PK2,
Sounds more like you game caused the problem.
Revert the DEP settings, hopefully that will give you your internet back.
If that fails try your OLDEST restore point.

You will NOT have to buy W7 again, your comp has a factory restore option, possibly in the Dell program files, or via your Bios.

Im assuming your other problem is a BSOD.
Go Control panel >> device manager >> update your graphics card and Network adapters, and are there any marked with an ! or a small black down arrow or Problem devices.

I bought a Medion Laptop 5 months ago running Windows 8.1 with no problems at all.
I hadn't got it switched on for a couple of weeks until Sunday past.
But I could not connect to the internet. It said I had limited access to the net but I have none at all.
I reverted back to factory settings not once but twice but still the same problem.Switched the router on and off numerous times.Every other internet based appliance in the house is working perfectly.I took it down to a friends house and connected first time.I know this is a Windows 8.1 problem as I have trawled through the internet seeking a solution.Every conceivable solution I have seen, ihave tried but with no luck.
Can anyone at all help me .Getting desperate now.

A:Limited Access To Internet With 8.1......In Fact No Access

"Limited" access usually means you can connect to an internal network (LAN) but not the an external network (a WAN i.e. Internet).

You can go to the Control Panel >Network & Sharing Center. Does it show the map with a "red X" before the Internet icon?
If so, click on it and let the troubleshooter start.
Maybe you need to use the "Connect to a Network" setup choice.
Are you trying to connect only by Wi-Fi, or did you also try with Ethernet cable connected to laptop?

I must say I find win much more obscure in its new UI as to what it is doing than XP or Linux My problem is that the wireless connection icon on the status bar keep getting a yellow warning triangle - no internet access - and the same happens in the perplexing network and sharing center display This is intermittent and driving me nuts The problem in on a new Acer Aspire It connects happily to my Draytek DSL wireless router but says there is no connection to the network I have a Dell laptop running XP and this connects and perfectly - but the Acer keeps going up and down When down I can't ping anything when up it is pinging So what is this darn quot Internet intermittent type: Internet No - Access Access Access quot thing in the Network and Sharing screen - what does it mean It shows Access type: No Internet Access - intermittent good connection to the wireless router but not good connection to the internet FYI I have automatic DHCP and automatic DNS selected in the IPv configurations The fact that the Dell unit runs perfectly says to me that the router is setup correctly as it has been for years - but there must be something odd in the Acer's configuration Oh and if I make a wired connection to the Draytek router same auto for DHCP and DNS then this works solidly

A:Access type: No Internet Access - intermittent

Hi, Check your firewall and see if its set on, if it is pop it off, and try connecting again.

If this dosent work, then post a screenie.

Have you turned on the network, files and printer sharing?
Have you checked your firewalls on all machines so that they will allow this machine to see them?
Have you checked to see that you have the SAME "WorkGroup" name as the other machines?

Hello Just wondering if anyone has had similar situations and know how to fix it I assume the fix is pretty simple but I don't know what access Can't websites certain I should be doing Basically it seems that certain websites are either not accessable or only partially load Most websites I access are loading no problems no issues with speed etc But for example when I try to access the usual news website I use or Netflix they fail to load The news website is one issue where it just says a connection failed to establish Netflix takes ages to load and then loads like a blank HTML white Can't access certain websites looking version of the main page with my name which is usually what I click on the access my profile but nothing on the page is clickable I am Can't access certain websites using the latest version of Chrome but the same thing happens when I use IE or Firefox When I try to access the news website via my phone connected to home wifi it also doesn't load However when I disable wifi on my phone and try to load the news via G it loads no problems So I figure that means the problem then is with my connection somehow as opposed to a browser issue I tried using CCleaner to wipe cache cookies history basically everything and that didn't work So I'm wondering if there is anything else I can try Can provide more info if needed but not sure what else to add Be grateful for any advice

A:Can't access certain websites

First, try the Netflix speed test. The fact that it doesn't happen on 4G implies that its a ISP issue, but the blank page with your name sounds like a plugin issue. Try this test to test HTML5, and this test for Silverlight.(Assuming you have it installed).

If all that workes, and your Netflix speed is slow, try changing your DNS. See here to use Google DNS, but there are other DNS out there. If curious what DNS work best for you, try Google Namebench(green button).

I have others things to try but lets see how that goes.

Trojan.busky
the file name is nweipeg.dll, under system32

Norton reported everytime when I opened a new tab in IE. But it cannot do anything to it.

If I opened IE, it said "cannot find 'file:///c:/secure32.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct" after clicking it twice, I was given a blank page. My homepage is google.ca. I can access it after typing the address again. But dunno what happened. BitDefender reported the "secure32" defected and moved it. >.< I dont know whether it is because of this that it showed that message."cannot find 'file:///c:/secure32.html'

Now, everything sucks. I cannot open lots of websties, even windows update, also, mmorpg.com .... They are just totally blank and footage showed that it is "done".

Could anyone help me? Thank you.

I can't access certain websites (like aol.com) even tho other devices on my network can. I've tried using different browsers with the same result. I tried all the solutions I could find online (ex: clearing cache, turning off firewall, etc) I even did a factory restore of Windows 7 on my machine and it had no effect.

So here's a toughie. I have XP, Earthlink DSL, and a Belkin Wireless Router. For a long time, I could access any website I wanted but one obscure one (thehotbutton.com), but now I can't access anything in the blogspot.com domain. IE, Firefox, and Opera just time out -- unless I use of the anonymyzer programs, then I can access the sites.

I'm fairly sure the problem isn't my desktop computer or spyware because A. I have the exact some problem on my laptop when I connect through my router and B. I can access the problem sites on other networks through said laptop without any problem.

I have gone through and re-set everything and tried adjusting MTU on the router, but nothing has worked. I know some spyware programs block sites and uninstalled spybot and ad-aware. Taken down the firewall, made the router a DMZ, etc. Any other ideas?

A:Can't Access Some Websites

Just a quick addition. I tried circumventing my router and I'm having the same issue. So it has to be the modem or my ISP. Any idea how I talk to them about this? It's kind of odd that it's the blogspot domain since there is drama about that India right now.

I thought you guys might have an answer for this as its seems to point to XP as the guilty party.

My sister & friends have some websites they run. They live in different continents. Sometimes the websites dont open for my sister but her friends overseas are fine.

she just asked me for help. We're both here in the same house. They open for me on my PC but not on her PC. She's on Internet explorer. We have deleted the cache & cookies. Still no response. This issue is intermitent. AND without any input from her in the past, the website will start opening again without any PC/XP tweeking.

She has AVG & LooknStop Firewall. I cannot see anything that might restrict access in those programs. Disabling AVG doesn't change things.

I'm stumped. But then again I'm just an winXP user, not an XP enthusiast. Any clues?

A:Cannot access some websites

Maybe a DNS issue?

For better resolution, you might want to try:

Try using Google Public DNS.

Or, OpenDNS.

hey guys, my buddy's PC can only access one website that supposedly promises to remove a virus from his system. he's running AVIRA and it picks up no viruses. i tried running it and it picks up nothing. he can't run any programs either.

is there any way to remove this thing or does he have to re-install windows? he just backed up his word documents onto an external HDD, there are photos too, but those wouldn't be infected right?

thanks

Do you use other download manager that installs add-on\extension into the browsers besides of the default download manager? If yes, try to disable the add-on\extension for a test.

Microsoft Windows Version 5.1 XP - Service Pack 2

Suddenly I can't access many normal websites. This just started today. I can go to earthlink.net but can't check my email. I can go to the NC DMV but can't search driving records. I just get a message that the page cannot be displayed.

What information do you need?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello,

When I go to google.com or gmail.com I get error "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error."
I can access yahoo.com and other various sites. Clicking on the links also work, but when I use the searchbox of say yahoo or msn, same issue is encountered.

I've tried below fixes but they didn't resolve the issue:
- repair the connection by left-clicking on the icon on the taskbar.
- used the cmd command to do netsh winsock reset / netsh winsock reset catalog.
- went to LAN settings to uncheck all, or to select "Automatic detect settings" only.
- ensured IP & DNS Server addresses set to automatic.
- renamed C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOST.bak to something else.

I have another PC connected to the same modem/router and it's working well.
PC in question is running on XP Home SP3. Thanks!!!

A:Can't Access Some Websites

Hi jctan, If you renamed this file "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOST.bak" to something else, you really didn't change anything. The .bak extension on the HOSTS file means that was already a backup.I would like you to go here and read and follow the instructions on how to update/replace your "HOSTS" file. You may want to try resetting both TCP/IP and Winsock on your computer to help with your troubles. To successfully complete this, you will need to be at a command prompt. Click on Start then Run. In the Run box type CMD and press enter. You will now see a black window with one line of text and a blinking cursor. You will next type: netsh int ip reset tcp.logThis will reset your TCP/IP settings.Next you will reset Winsock:You will type:netsh winsock reset sock.logWhen the Winsock is finished you will be directed to restart your computer. Type exit in the window and press enter. From here you will do a normal restart on your computer and retest your network connection.Hope this helps,

Hi,

I've had this problem for sometime now. I dont see banners and multimedia ads on webpages and i cannot access some website. Its the same with all the browsers i have (IE,firefox, chrome). I've tried opening the browsers without ad ons, resetting the browsers to default, restarting my router. I've temporarily disabled my firewall and uninstalled my antivirus, but the problem still persists.

What next should i do about this?

A:I cannot access some websites

Make sure you have Service Pack 3 installed.

Help please, with a very strange problem.

I have a router to which my pc connects directly through an internet cable, and my wife's over a wireless connection.

There are some sites which I can't access, but which my wife's pc can. eg www.metoffice.com. When I try to access it I get no response at all.

I have just changed to a different router with Sky but I had the same problem with my original router. When I connected through a broadband modem everything was ok.

Any ideas? thanks

For some reason I am unable to access two websites Well two that I know of I am not able to reach them on this computer whether it is a wireless connection or a wired one I know that these sites work access I websites. cannot certain because I can connect to them on any other computer including the others on my I cannot access certain websites. home network both wired and wireless I am running Windows Ultimate -bit on an Asus G JH laptop I use Avast free version and Malwarebytes paid version and I do a manual scan with Malwarebytes every night as I go to sleep Avast is set to do its most thorough scan custom scan settings every morning at The two sites in question are Mod Edit Links removed Obviously I have not tried every possible thing because I am I cannot access certain websites. still unable to fix the issue But I have reached my wit's end on this one and I am officially calling in the brain trust I think it only fair to note that even though my copy of Windows updates and validates without issue it isn't exactly what one would refer to as legitimate I used it as a fresh install after I wiped Windows Home Premium and these sites worked perfectly before the switch As I had a bit of difficulty with acquiring the drivers I can allow that I may have overlooked something in the process The one common thread between these two sites that I know of is that they both involve illegitimate materials whether these are the programs themselves or just serials keygens They are not blocked by my ISP because I can still use them on all other comps in this house and this includes another laptop that has the exact copy of Windows that I am running on mine And I mean exact I do not get anywhere by disabling either Avast or Malwarebytes nor does disabling the firewall change anything Another piece of this puzzle is that I am able to access similar sites without issue I hope that someone is able to help me with this It is not a huge deal I just hate being puzzled Thanks in advance

A:I cannot access certain websites.

Hello BrandonWengerBefore proceeding, I would like to point out several details about our site that need mentioning in a situation like this.First, a warning for not only your benefit, but also that of others who may read this thread. The practice of using cracking tools, keygens, warez or any pirated software is not only considered illegal activity but it is a serious security risk. Cracking applications are used for illegally breaking (cracking) various copy-protection and registration techniques used in commercial software. These programs may be distributed via Web sites, Usenet, and P2P networks.trendmicro.com/vinfo...warez and crack web pages are being used by cybercriminals as download sites for malware related to VIRUT and VIRUX. Searches for serial numbers, cracks, and even antivirus products like Trend Micro yield malcodes that come in the form of executables or self-extracting files...quick links in these sites also lead to malicious files. Ads and banners are also infection vectors...Keygen and Crack Sites Distribute VIRUX and FakeAV...warez/piracy sites ranked the highest in downloading spyware...just opening the web page usually sets off an exploit, never mind actually downloading anything. And by the time the malware is finished downloading, often the machine is trashed and rendered useless.University of Washington spyware study...One of the most aggressive and intrusive of all bad websites on the Internet are serial, warez, software cracking type sites...they sneak malware onto your system...Where do trojan viruses originate? One of the biggest malware distributors on the Internet are serial/warez/code cracking sites.Bad Web Sites: MalwareWhen you use these kind of programs, be forewarned that some of the worst types of malware infections can be contracted and spread by visiting crack, keygen, warez and other pirated software sites. In many cases, those sites are infested with a veritable buffet of malware and an increasing source of system infection. Those who attempt to get software for free can end up with a computer system so badly damaged that recovery is not possible and it cannot be repaired. When that happens there is nothing you can do besides reformatting and reinstalling the OS.***************************************************Please note that the links have been removed in your original post. For several reasons, one of which is detailed above, Bleeping Computer does not permit the posting of links to such material. This is for the protection of both ourselves and our member community. Also, please be aware that Bleeping Computer does not, in any way, condone or recommend the hacking, cracking, or pirating of digital material including software. What you do is your business, but you will not receive help here on issues dealing with illegal activity.***************************************************Now, in regards to your issue, the first thing I would suggest is that you check your HOSTS file. Additionally, try pinging the sites you're trying to visit from command line and see if you are able to get a response. For instructions on how to do either of these, please let me know and I will provide them for you.~Blade

I checked out a school laptop and some websites (yahoo login, myspace, facebook.. etc) i still cannot access them how do i access them?

A:cannot access websites

Hello and welcome

As this is a school laptop, they would have settings inplace to stop students from accessing these websites and only using the laptop for school purposes.

Because of this we can not help you with this problem.

Please re-read over the forum rules.

wasnt sure where to ask this but ill give it a shot here.

I'm having some difficulties accessing.gc websites. These websites usually deal with goverment services like passport canada (www.pptc.gc.ca). This only happens on one computer in my house so im sure it isnt an isp problem. the firewall and virus protection im using is trend micro's PC-cillin. i have scanned my comp many times over with no viruses everytime. I have also disabled PC-cillin's firewall and it still dosent work. Is this a virus PC-cillin isnt picking up or something else ? HELP (i use both IE and firefox)

Hi P-DOG, welcome to TSF...

don't think it's a virus just at the moment...but malware of some kind is a possibilty.

What is the exact message displaying on your screen when you try to load the page?

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download Hoster (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Hoster.exe) and run it. Choose the 'Restore Original Hosts' button and press OK.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D http://security.kolla.de/. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available.

Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident and make sure that TeaTimer is checked. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings.

Now click on the 'Spybot-S&D' option on the top left to go back to the main screen. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the 'Fix Selected Problems' button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix http://majorgeeks.com/download4392.html and install it over the current Spybot installation.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINNT\system32\iexplore.exe<<<this is not the valid Internet Explorer which should be running from C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software... Read more

A:Cannot access some websites

Almost sounds like it could be a DNS issue. Did your ISP mention it at all?

Anyway if you haven't yet, try using a DNS server other than your ISP's. You can change it from witin Windows,

DNS Addressing - How to Change in Windows 7

or easier if behind a router to make the change there.

Hello all -

I'm having a problem whereby I cannot access any websites. I know that the computer is reaching the 'net, but for some reason I can't reach any sites. All I get is "The Page Cannot Be Displayed." Underneath this line are some suggestions on how to fix this, all of which I've tried to no avail.

I'm using Internet Explorer 6 with XP.

My eMule still connects, but only with a Low ID. (But this is how I know I'm still connected.)

Can anyone offer any suggestions?
