Computer stops responding and Freezes

Q: Computer stops responding and Freezes

I'm in safe mode right now because my computer keeps freezing. I can't run malware bytes either ( It freezes) I think I may have opened an e-mail with a link that downloaded a virus in to my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Computer stops responding and Freezes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try running ADWCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/dl/125/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/dl/131/

After running both of them restart into safe mode again and try running rkill:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/

Then try malwarebytes chameleon:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/chameleon/

Another thing to try would be opening a cmd prompt and typing:
chkdsk /r /f

Then restart

My new laptop has recently started freezing for no reason. It only freezes and stops responding when I'm connected to the Internet but when I turn off the wifi it won't freeze. I've been looking for why this is and haven't found any answers yet. I've used an antivirus and it has said it hasn't found anything. Any help is appreciated.

A:Computer randomly freezes and stops responding when connected to internet

How new is the laptop?  Is it new for you, or is it newly purchased?
What antivirus did you scan with?  Have you tried ADWCleaner and MalwareBytes AntiMalware?

Hope you can help! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4GB, 64bit, Intel i5, NVIDIA, Kaspersky Internet Security 15.0.2.
I primarily use IE11, but switch to Mozilla Firefox 43.0.2 when IE stops responding. My primary email is AOL which I access via web, not software. Computer often slow and hangs.

The main issue is IE11 "stops responding" several times a day. I've run the latest version of Malwarebytes (subscription), Glary Utilities Pro, Kaspersky IS, CCleaner, and Disk Cleanup. I delete browing history daily. No virus or malware shows up after scans. Recently ran a full scan on Kaspersky overnight+ and still, no viruses detected. I'm not sure what the issue is and would gladly go back to IE9 or 10 if IE11 is the issue, but I need to be sure.

Whatever guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ok the title says it all.

I have a Pentium 4, 100Gb Hard Drive, 1Gb Ram. I am Running Windows XP.

For the past week, Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) has been behaving erratically.

I have Outlook setup to immeadiately Send and recieve when I open it. When I open it it starts to recieve, I get a couple emails and then the app freezes. The title bar changes and says "Not Responding"

I am running Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition and have disabled it to see if it was the problem, but was not.

I have run Disk Clean up and Defrag. I even tried System restore but I am still having the same problem.

Please help.

Hi,
For the past 2 days, whenever I have used Mozilla firefox 12.0, after sometime, the browser hangs up and it tells that the browser has stoped responding. The same time, windows explorer also hangs and freezes soon.I will have to restart and then same thing happens again.I tried Chorome also, but the result was same. the browser freezes, and soon after explorer also freezes.
I have also noticed that the disk space in the C drive is also getting reduced. In one day 5gb of space has been added up.I have installed and tested with windirstat.

Update:
Now even the yahoo messenger freezes(not responding) everytime..and other applications too
I have scanned with MAlwarebytes and Security essential and could not find any infection.
For the past 3 days, I can't watch flash videos in Mozilla.Today, several time the same thing happend to chrome also and it saysthe player crashed.

Please give me a solution.

As of late I've noticed that my taskbar (on auto hide) will refuse to come up, then windows will stop responding which is a huge pain. I've tried scanning for any malware and what not but nothing came up, not sure what else I can do except ask some people with a lot more knowledge? If you have any ideas they'd be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you in advance.

Here is my dxdiag, let me know if any other information is necessary.

Windows Movie Maker 2.6 freezes and stops responding when I make an audio track shorter. What can I do? And I want to use Windows Movie Maker 2.6 for some simple stuff sometimes, because other video making softwares are too difficult for some simple stuff many times...

So, my PC stops responding every time I turn it on. As a result, I'll have to restart it
again, and when it is restarted i'll get the same problem and i'll keep restarting the PC
until it stops freezing

So, I used Tuneup to find the error for me, and I got this error [See Pic.]

I did what it says, go to device manager and update the device. This is how the
device manager looks like.

Any ideas about which "devices" are causing the problem? is it a motherboard
problem or not?

A:My Computer Stops Responding!

Hi Tiara25,I don't see anything malicious. I don't know what is happening with that file, but I do see a likely conflict between Symantec and F-Secure. It looks as if you had Norton installed and attempted to uninstall it? Can you confirm that? You have two instances of Norton's updater still present and I assume still running. If the freeze ups happen about the same time every day, it could be because Norton is trying to update itself and overloading your CPU.To stop this if this is the case, do the following--only do this fix if you have attempted to uninstall Norton and thought it was gone and you don't have any other Norton products that need updating.Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to the following entries:O23 - Service: Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exeO23 - Service: LiveUpdate - Symantec Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\LIVEUP~1\LUCOMS~1.EXEClose all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop and Taskbar--and then click the "Fix checked" button, then reboot. Then, even if you don't do the above, please run this scan:Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimizedCopy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply. If you have any problems with the logs, both can be found in C:\Deckard\System Scanner.Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

I initially posted this in quot Am I Infected quot After trying a few of the mod s suggestions I was advised to repost here My computer is a year old Dell running XP A few weeks ago I started having this problem Shortly after starting up the program I m using will stop responding I can still move the mouse around but nothing else will work I have to unplug the machine to even restart it I tried running a scan with Malware Bytes but that stops responding a couple of minutes into the scan Some programs will run okay haven t had issues just browsing stuff on Firefox but if I try to even open others responding stops Computer like the DVD player program it freezes up the whole computer These problems began shortly after I installed and started using the DVD creator software DVD Flick For about days I was doing a good amount of DVD burning A couple of times I had similar problems with that program not responding Then about a week later I was just having the general problem of programs not responding I ve since uninstalled DVD Flick but the problems persist I ve tried doing malware scans in Safe Mode but have had the same problem the program stops responding a couple of minutes into it I ve also tried using a boot disc UBCD WIN and had the exact same problems I thought it might be hardware problem related to overheating so I cleaned the cpu fan and heatsink but I m still having the same problems Computer stops responding Per the mod s suggestions in the original thread I installed and ran tdsskiller which did not find anything I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling DVD Flick and still encountered the same problems I would do a system restore however there are no restore points prior to my installing DVD Flick Any help advice is welcome Let me know if I should provide any more information Thanks

Hello,I am not certain his is a malware.Let's first try thisPlease download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply. If nothing is found or it fails(let me know either way) then...I think we should start by either removing this while in Safe Mode and reboot. These problems began shortly after I installed and started using the DVD creator software DVD Flick.or doing a system restore to the day before this.. See what happens..

Hello, again;

I failed to say that I'm running XP Home SP1 on a Compaq 2805.

After a few minutes of working fairly well, it's usually necessary to re-boot, and I was trying to get the message out before that happened.

Hi there, i have recently started getting a problem where my computer freezes up, i can still move the mouse but the machine doesn't respond. The only way i can get it out of this state is by taking out the network cable. Would this be due to spyware? Thanks in advance

A:Computer stops responding

Without the network cable plugged in, see if you can get into the control panel, system, device manager. Tell us if you see any yellow exclamation marks in the device list

A few days ago I contracted a virus (PDM.DNS.Query in winsysm.exe according to Kaspersky). I noticed I probably had a problem because I was unable to open Task Manager with the combination Ctrl-Alt-Del. After cleaning it up, my computer has not been acting as usual, and sometimes it stops responding to commands. According to Spybot's Startup Menu Analyzer, I have some new checked items which I don't know how they got there. I also remember seen a message from Kaspersky that said something like "a file came out of quarantine" which I did not pay much attention at the time (I think it may have been winsysm.exe). I have attached a ighjackthis log file, a gmer analysis file and DDS file. Thanks a lot for any help.

A:computer just stops responding

Since you said you formatted and reinstalled your OS, and it still isn't working properly, this tells me it is most likely a hardware related issue. Try running a hardware diagnostic tool on your machine and see what it says.

You still have traces of G Data on your computer. Leftovers from bad antivirus removals can cause all sorts of problems.

Run the AVCleaner 2011 from G Data.

The couple of programs I have running have been over the last few days constantly stop responding. IE, Outlook express, AOL software. When I download off the internet that frequently causes it to stop responding. If, it recovers from not responding, I cannot then view any websites or download emails until I have rebooted. I have used system restore in a desperate attempt at rectifying the problem but to no good. I am at a loss as to what is causing it. whether something is wrong with my connection or XP or if there is something nasty has installed itself, I know could be possibilities but not sure where I should be looking. I even put my XP disk in to reinstall windows but even that stopped responding.

Please can anyone help.

This is quite a long list of recommendations :-
you may have a virus / spyware on PC

You may have a virus or spyware:-

This is a long list - so PLEASE TAKE ONE STEP AT A TIME:-

A lot of the advice below is found in th efollowing threads -
you may want to have a read here
http://forums.techguy.org/t157045.html and here http://forums.techguy.org/t178092.html
FIRST:-

run a virus scan with your own scanner - first make sure your scanner is fully up-to-date with the latest definitions
or you can Run an online scan from here
http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall.

see here http://forums.techguy.org/t110854.html for other online scanners

Remember to turn off system restore in WinME and XP http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...8825696500726d13?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam
ONCE ALL CLEAR:

SECOUND:-

SPYWARE - note the spyware tools websites often come under attack (hence more than 1 location)

CWShedder:
it may be worth running CWShredder first -
download from these sites

I am running Windows XP professional. The computer stops responding all the time. Sometimes as the system boots, sometimes at desktop, and sometimes when I try to open a program. At first there was a problem with Norton Anti Virus, but was able to correct that problem. I ran a virus scan and no viruses were found. I can restart in safe mode but have not been able to fix the problem. Can anyone please help.

Hi I ve been having this problem for a while now at least a few months I m trying to check out when this happens but it doesn t seem to For Recovers While A My Little Stops Computer Then Responding show a My Computer Stops Responding For A Little While Then Recovers pattern It stops responding when I surf the net use MSN play a game listen to music and so on It completely stops responding so I can t check windows task manager to see if anything is using a lot of CPU And depending on what I m doing it responds after a certain amount of time If I m playing a game it takes much longer to recover up to a minute this usually leads to other people dropping me which means that it s causing me to lag in the game If I m on MSN or surfing the net it usually takes about - seconds to recover I m using Windows -bit and there s no error message If I m playing music it will continue to play However if the song finishes while it s not responding it will not load the next song to play until after it has recovered I only got this computer about - months ago so I m assuming every thing is up-to-date or at least near up-to-date Also my computer sometimes crashes and it doesn t recover I m assuming this is something different because it happens much more rarely The problem I have with it crashing and recovering happens on a daily bi-daily basis Thanks for your time Jackie nbsp

A:Computer sporadically stops responding?

When the computer locks up, and you open task manager, have you noticed any specific process/or program taking up all the CPU cycles i.e. 100% usage or something like that?

When the lock ups are over it functions normally again right?

Have stress tested your graphic card? You can do it with OCCT.

What is make of the PSU?

Unable to edit but I scanned with Eset online scanner.  I found 7 threats I believe are PUP files located in systems folder.  The name of it is "systweaks"  (or something like that).  They are not going away.  I tried to remove them 2 times already and it still keeps popping up.

A:Computer Slows Down And Finally Stops Responding

Hello Kanga and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

It happens pretty consistently, especially after doing one task for an extended while, like having firefox open for an hour or two, then trying to suddenly open My Computer either through the start menu or by using the shortcut to it on my task bar.

Explorer hangs for a long time, and ctrl-alt-del won't work. Eventually I either have to restart, log out, or wait for it to realize it's not responding.

Any help?

Hi,

In the last week or so, my computer has lost the ability to shutdown normally.
After that, nothing will open (command prompt, task manager, etc..) but the computer is not frozen. Now, when I turn the computer on, it seems like after 10 or 15 minutes, the same thing happens.

I have used Avast! antivirus software and it found [email protected] (was marked as a rootkit) and win32:dowloader-HQR (trojan).

However, after have quarantined these problems, the computer has not been fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Okay for the last hour i consulted google about this problem and i am not even sure how to adequately describe it I'll try anyway Here's whats happening My continues normally Computer ~2min responding, stops after PC boots normally everything seems fine and suddenly it stops responding I can still move the mouse buttons are still responding when i hover the mouse over them but nothing new can open No program no browser Tab the Longer this goes on the more stuff freezes Chrome usually says quot waiting for cache quot After about a minute nothing responds anymore I can still move the mouse Then i hear my HDD Computer stops responding, continues normally after ~2min make this characteristic quot HDD-crackle-Sound quot and everything continues to function normally If i press STRG ALT DEL while this is happening the screen goes black i can still move my mouse until the crackle and everything goes back to normal The thing is the HDD is not my boot drive Windows is installed on a SSD the HDD is just for storage I am no Computer stops responding, continues normally after ~2min expert but i think it shouldn't freeze my system like that I tested both drives with SeaTools and it showed no errors HD Sentinel said everything is fine too Apparently even Downloads continue while this is happening could be that it just shows them as continuing though Maybe a display error i don't really know and Computer stops responding, continues normally after ~2min i am completely at a loss how i should even tackle this thing This also happens randomly while using the PC but in random intervals there seems to be no real pattern to it nor do i do anything specific to cause this usually just browsing There are no errors no crashes no logs of any kind relating to this issue no anything that even hints at a problem Only thing i could find is a tip to remove the AMD HD Audio Driver when using on-board Audio because there are some known conflicts Didn't help the issue I would really appreciate some help If i can post anything in addition to my normal specs please let me know If this is in the wrong Forum i apologize I posted it in Hardware amp Devices because of the Crackle the HDD makes the second everything returns to normal I really have no other clues as to what it could be I don't think the Drive is the cause though It appears as if the OS waits for something to happen Edit I forgot to mention after it resumes business everything i clicked on or did otherwise activate happens all at once Programs launch tabs switch new tabs open several if i clicked more than once and so on Edit I do not use BitDefender anymore because it caused BSODs on my system Forgot to remove it from my specs

A:Computer stops responding, continues normally after ~2min

If you did not mention the hard drive, my first hunch would be that it is hard drive problems. Lets assume for now that it is not.
Try a clean boot and report results
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes
Run a full scan with eset online.

I need some help. I believe my computer has been hijacked so I've downloaded HijackThis and extracted it into it's own Programs File but everytime I try to run it, it stops responding. My computer has been doing strange things like when I shut it down, it will start back up on it's own. I can hear my CPU's jump up and my computer starts to become loud. Can someone please help me find out what's wrong?

A:Hijackthis Won't Run/stops Responding - Computer Acting Up!

Open the HijackThis Folder, find the HijackThis.exe file, right click on the file and select rename. Type Analyze.exe and hit "Enter". Double-click on Analyze.exe (which is still hijackthis) to run the program. If needed, change the .exe to something else such as .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr. Example: Analyze.bat or Analyze.com

after posting a log you should NOT make further changes to your computer. This includes installing/uninstalling programs, using special fix tools, deleting files, editing the registry, etc. unless advised by a HJT Team member. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make may cause confusion for the member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

A:MY COMPUTER STOPS RESPONDING WHEN CONNECTED TO INTERNET!

Hi,

As a first step, beg, borrow or steal an external hard drive and back up your data. Or else burn it to DVDs. This will at least protect your data.

It's weird that it should only happen on one user account on your computer, it suggests a conflict inside that account. What do you mean when you say "You turn on your wi-fi" ?  On most computers the wi-fi turns on automatically as you boot them. If you mean when you open a browser to go on-line, then I would suggest uninstalling the browser and reinstalling it.

If you mean that you only plug in / turn on / connect your wi-fi from time to time, the problem might be with your networking software. In which case I would suggest  uninstalling your network drivers and go to the manufacturer for the latest ones ( you may need to use someone else's computer for this bit ! ) and download and install the latest drivers for your networking equipment. You don't say if you are using a laptop, desktop or what, but
the manufacturer of your laptop, if it is one, should have the latest drivers, and if you are using a wireless dongle, as I do in my desktop, its manufacturer should be able to supply the newest drivers.

Een if worst comes to the worst, and you have to do a complete re-install, then Step 1 will protect your data.

Good luck,

Chris Cosgrove

A:Computer Stops Responding Shortly After Startup

Sorry for the delay in responding.  I was away for the weekend and internet availability was spotty - so I got a bit behind in my replies. Wait until the system stops responding, then recover from it and generate these 2 sets of reports:1)  Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.By default it'll be a .zip file located on your DesktopSimply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there. If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/2)  Please do the following:- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."- save the file as Admin.evtx- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Last month I purchased a Caviar Black I a save file responding stops when Computer TB internal SATA hard drive I did a clean install of Windows XP Pro on it At the time I opted to split the drive into three partitions C GB D GB E GB According to Computer stops responding when I save a file Disk Management C is the primary partition and Computer stops responding when I save a file D and E are extended partitions and logical drives Windows has been upgraded to Service Pack I have run into a recurring problem with the D partition Basically whenever I try to modify a file on that drive the program I am using stops responding Then any program afterwards that I try to start won t When I click on the Start Computer stops responding when I save a file menu and quot Turn Off Computer quot nothing happens the dialog box asking if I want to restart or shut down doesn t appear Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn t bring up the Task Manager Basically everything stops responding except I can still move the cursor The only way to turn off the computer is to press and hold the power switch Once restarted everything works fine until I try to modify a file on the D drive I have had no problems with the C or E partitions I don t know what causes the problem in the first place What I do know is that when the D drive starts having this problem any of the below actions will cause the symptoms described in the previous paragraph Downloading a file with Firefox and trying to save it to the D drive Opening a file on the D drive with Open Office making changes and clicking save Creating a txt file on the C drive opening it with notepad and trying to save it to the D drive Trying to delete a file on the D drive to the recycle bin Interestingly I am still able to copy files to the D drive without a problem I can copy everything on the D drive to the E drive with no problem If I start Windows in Safe Mode then I can modify and delete files on the D drive with no problem I ve scanned the computer with Avast and the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware I also scanned it with Windows Defender and Spybot None of the scans showed any problems I ve also run Check Disk on the D drive with the quot scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors quot box checked No problems were reported In an attempt to fix the problem I have used Disk Management to delete and recreate the D partition I ve done so multiple times One time I even recreated it as two partitions D and Z Both partitions experienced the problem I ve recreated it using a different letter I believe I used J The problem still occured I ve tried renaming it to a different letter without deleting and recreating Didn t work Usually after I had deleted and recreated the partition it would work fine for awhile Sometimes the problem would resurface right after I had copied its files back onto the drive Other times the problem would resurface after installing a program Here is the sequence of events prior to the most recent occurrence of the problem I had saved a file on the D drive on Monday the th I put my computer into Stand By While I was at work today Tuesday the power was shut off So instead of resuming from stand by the computer had to boot up Once I logged in Adobe Flash asked to upgrade and I let it I then opened the same file on the D drive in Open Office updated it and clicked save - the program stopped responding After restarting my computer I tried to delete a different file a text file on the D drive and the problem occurred I searched on the web but it didn t appear anyone else has had this problem It s the first time I ve ever encountered it Since the problem completely disappears in Safe Mode I m inclined to think it s software related Let me know if you have any thoughts of what I could try or look for Let me know if I missed any important information

A:Computer stops responding when I save a file

Please post a screenshot from Disk Management.

What drive letter is assigned your optical drive? You should not have been able to assign D: to any partition, since it should have been assigned to the optical drive on the system (by default).

Just what method did you use to install Windows on the new drive?

System manufacturer and model?

A:Computer Stops Responding For 2-3 Seconds Every Half Hour

Hello Gtambara and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It's probably just one of the running processes on the machine doing a check. I remember having something similar and it was a VNC application that I was running. When I disabled it the pausing stopped. If you want to investigate which process is doing that then I would suggest posting int he XP forum here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/56/windows-xp-home-and-professional/ . They have some utilities that can monitor processes and see what the various applications are doing at specific times.Cheers.OT

A:Computer Runs Slow And IE Stops Responding Alot

Welcome to TSF.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ to update manually.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...howtutorial=61 ).

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you check the last one:

Win 7 Home Premium x64. Three users logged in. The computer will all of a sudden stop responding for minutes at a time. Everything stops Keyboard, mouse, sidebar clocks, etc. Will then get short bursts of activity. If I am lucky to get it to shutdown, it will BSOD while shutting down.

Sometimes this happens on wake from sleep and sometimes when watching videos (youtube), playing Minecraft.

I have attached 2 of the most recent files in minidump

How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

2-BCC116

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

I can't figure this one out...

It seems explorer and other programs stop responding after about 15 minutes of inactivity. (I cannot ctrl alt del or anything)

I disabled all optional services and start up programs via msconfig

I changed my hard drive to not spin down on inactivity and not go to sleep

If I have a chrome window open (say gmail) I can continue to open emails and even retrieve items and receive new emails - but I cannot open a new tab, and if I try to redirect to a new website at the bottom of chrome it says "waiting for cache"

It seems like a hard drive or l1 cache type issue - but how do I diagnose further?

There is nothing in the logs that seem to be useful...

any suggestions?

Hello all First off let me say that I'm a noob at building systems a friend helped me spec out the system I just built I've worked out most of the issues but one has me totally baffled at intermittent times the computer will stop responding I may be working on it or not and it Computer device to select reboots tells and responding, stops then proper boot me reboots upon reboot it tells me to select the proper boot device and reboot the system I've gone into the Computer stops responding, reboots and then tells me to select proper boot device bios and changed both the boot priority AND the hard drive boot order but for some reason it's not sticking I'll go back into the bios and the settings have changed - even after saving them I've downloaded and installed the latest chipset drivers Computer stops responding, reboots and then tells me to select proper boot device for my mobo but don't know if there's anything else I can do with the bios I don't think this is a software compatibility issue bit computer vs bit software because all of my programs work just fine on my HP Pavilion Dv - which is also bit Here's a breakdown of what I have for components Crosshair Formula IV mobo AMD Phenom II Quad Core processor GB DDR RAM two Radeon HD Video cards in crossfire configuration one Corsair GB SATA quot SSD for system drive one Corsair GB SATA quot SSD for rendering one TB Seagate HHD one GB Seagate HHD Windows Ultimate bit Zonet port USB KVM switch with audio My apologies if I'm not giving all of the information you may need to resolve my issue Just ask and I'll do my best to get you any additional information you may need And don't be too suprised if I ask quot How do I do that quot when you tell me to try a solution that involves going into the command prompt or deleting keys Drivetrain

Hello all First off my computer was working fine until some weeks ago when my motherboard broke So I ordered and installed a new motherboard and processor for it note that I've done computer installations many times I didn't notice any direct problems so I downloaded and installed all the new drivers etc etc you know the drill The computer seemed to work just fine but apparently the operating system win x ultimate device proper reboots and then boot tells responding, stops Computer me select to completely stops responding randomly so I have to reset the computer Right after the computer freeze when I reset it tells me to select a proper boot device media and then Computer stops responding, reboots and then tells me to select proper boot device restart so I just reset it again and I get the same error This error lasts until I turn the computer off not reset button and then turning it Computer stops responding, reboots and then tells me to select proper boot device on again that way it detects the harddrive again To be honest I have no idea what's causing this I've tried new SATA cables and connected the drives to different SATA ports both gb s ports and the standard ones I've also run chkdsk and startuprepair without success The Computer stops responding, reboots and then tells me to select proper boot device processor temps are also fine so that can't be it I've also played around with the boot settings and priority but still the same error My harddrive just seem to randomly die until I power off - gt power on What do you guys think Hardware Software problem BIOS Drivers Note that I did not reinstall my operating system after the hardware change maybe that's what causing it I don't know anything about master slave so maybe that's the problem Anyway here is my specs Corsair W powersupply Intel Core i GHz XFX HD gb Corsair GB x MB CL Mhz VENGEANCE LP ASRock P Extreme REV B Samsung SH- AB SATA - DVD drive and TB Satadrive and one gb satadrive Thanks in advance

I recently started getting very annoying problem. Firefox or other program stops responding and alt+ctrl+del stops working at the same time so I have to reboot. It happens quite often.

What I did already:
*Maybe virus? Full boot time system scan with Avast anti-virus. Nothing found.
*Oh well reinstall windows again... Yes, I did that too. Still same problem BUT ONLY after small break like two days or so.
And most confusing thing is that full screen programs like games do not seem to stop responding. Still, they BSOD like after few hours, but I do not think it is related. Like heavy load or something.

My system details hopefully in my forum profile, at least filled them recently.

So any other ideas how I can fix that?

A:Program stops responding and alt+ctrl+del stops working

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Please post this info

I have a Dell Inspiron N laptop it's a few years old I'm on Windows The problem I'm having is that the computer will be running fine and suddenly the computer will begin to start and stop running so slow that I have to reboot I can see in the Task Manager that the CPU usage fluctuates between and a normal level All other indications of the computer 'working' - the processing light on the keyboard the movement of the mouse the sound of the computer working - all start and stop in sync It's like the whole system freezes every half second and then unfreezes again After freezes up, starts Computer and stops rebooting it goes back to normal The problem started back in March At first it happened several times in one week Then it seemed to go away for a while and now it's been happening somewhat frequently again two days in a row just now I can't think of anything I did back in March that would have caused it nor can Computer freezes up, starts and stops I think of a pattern of what actions trigger it Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Have you tried defraging your disks (HDD). All though Windows vista does this automatically when scheduled but it will not if the computer is in sleep or hibernation mode or when it is shut off. I would recommend defraging.

Also if you can take a snapshot of all processes running in the task manager. (Make sure to tic show all processes for all users).

Hello here are my PC specs Windows x Intel I gb often freezes(not very Computer responding..) ddr vengence corsair ram Asus P X D-E motherboard Nvidia GTX wat PSU Tb western digital hard drive OK so i just Computer freezes(not responding..) very often built my computer a few months ago with all newly ordered parts except the video card that i took from my old computer for temporary use Anyway the video card has been slowly dying i think because it says my video ram is low playing games like starcraft and battlefield bad company but that isnt the problem A few weeks ago i noticed my computer started to not respond for a little bit every time i started it up i left on a trip for a few days and when i return i find that my computer is not responding about every few minutes it happens more when i am opening up new applications So today i reformatted with a fresh windows x and the same problem continues so that leads me to believe it is a hardware related issue Since my video card is the only old part in my computer that leads me to believe that it is most probable for it to be the issue Is there any way a video card can cause this kind of thing i can still play games on high quality but sometimes freezes will happen this is rare Things like opening and closing firefox making new taps opening itunes seem to cause the freezes also my window loading screen takes a very long time any input is appreciated thanks in advance nbsp

A:Computer freezes(not responding..) very often

How "temporary" did you intend your usage of the old video card to be? If you have a new one coming soon, you will soon have an answer to your question.

It seems on the surface that if your game play isn't being halted, there might be another issue. Though, is it happening mainly when opening things that specifically have some sort of graphics animation or video feed, like most browser home pages and the windows start up screen do? Or is it happening when you open static apps like MS Office?

Also, how do you have your memory partitioned? Do all of your applications store log data in the C drive, and how much working memory availability have you got in there? I had a big problem with a home-built machine where, with a lack of foresight, we placed most of the RAM in the D drive since all game programs were going to be stored there, but then the C drive constantly ran out of working memory and the OS would crash and eventually just failed to boot.

It is always a bummer when a new toy doesn't work like it is supposed to. I hope your issue is resolved soon!

My computer has been shutting down and restarting on its own.
Sometimes, it just freezes and I have to hold down the on/off button to shut it off.
The battery is useless so I removed it.
Not really getting consistent error messages..

The instructions here ask you to attach the Attach.txt.

Instead of attaching, please copy/past both logs into your next reply.
Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

A:Computer Freezes Up Randomly, Then Monitor Stops Working

Laymans terms....

1st thing to try would be a checkdisk, seeing as it had a bad shutdown.

Boot it up, go into "My Computer", Right click on the "C" drive, select Properties, Tools, Error Checking. Tick BOTH the boxes, and hit OK.
It will prompt to reboot, do so, and it will check the Hard Drive for File Errors, bad sectors etc.

Hopefully that'll do the trick

A:printer freezes computer (spool32 not responding?)

demonloop
The first thing I would try is is uninstall and reinstalling the printer.
Or if this problem occurred recently try a system restore back to when it worked.
Lastly here are two links that are quite lengthty but will help solve the problem.

I often use malwarebytes, but today I am unable to complete a quick scan, as the program stops responding. This also happened when I tried to run it in safe mode. When it happens I am unable to close malwarebytes, even by trying to shut it down in task manager, and I am forced to remove my laptop battery to shut down.

I am not experiencing problems with other scanners, such as spybot and Ccleaner

Do I have a deep rooted malware problem perhaps? Any help always greatly appreciated! Thanks.

A:Malwarebytes not responding and freezes computer during scan

Hi cleanhat,

Have you recently had any problems with malware? If so, possible remnants leftover. Also have you tried to run MBAM in safemode?

You might also try ininstalling MBAM: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware-cleanup-tool/

Then reinstall: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware/

This may resolve the issue.

Regards.............

Sorry, I see you already tried safemode. But you may try other steps as solution.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit. My computer freezes after starting up this usually persists for about an hour. After it runs smoothly for a while then freezes again randomly. I have ran Malware bytes and removed some malware but that did not help. I've also ran Reg cure Pro and Cccleaner. This all happened randomly after I used windows update, I am not sure if that's what caused it or just a coincidence.

I found that a java add-onn that was causing a problem so I unistalled java then re-installed it which semms to have solved the problem.
The other add-on was the yahoo installer add-on so I un-installed it and re-installed and now all is working fine

A:USB Stops responding

Problem may have been solved. It is a known issue with certain chip sets on motherboards. I have installed the revised inf files for the 945CZ chip set (automatic program from Intel did the trick), and so far so good.

Just goes to show it might be something you do not expect.

I will keep you advised.

BTW this could cause many other issues as well. My advice run some program that does gives an in depth inventory of your PC and if you have a motherboard that has Intel Chip set either go to your MB manufacturer's site or go to intel - they have lots of info on their site.

A:XP stops responding

Hi mate, maybe it is PSU bottleneck... Because PSU is two years old, you should clean it from dust inside with vacuum cleaner or with compressed air... Or to be sure, better to lend PSU with at least 500W and try to see what will happened...
You have a lot power consumers...
Also clean entire case from inside from dust [that includes to replace paste between processor and cooler on processor], and take out graphic card and clean PCI-E slot with brush and put it back [be sure you insert it right]...
Hope this will help you mate...

Why do so many programs just stop working, stop responding for no apparent reason??? This includes IE9, e-mail service, new printer/scanner installation, etc, etc, etc. Sometimes even writing a letter or "Save as" just stops responding. How can this be??? Windows says "we're looking for a solution", but nothing ever shows up. Is there no diagnostic that can identify the failure? Is it memory, conflict, what can be causing these annoying interruptions??? Mostly rebooting the system will clear things up.

My setup: Windows 8 PRO, CPU Intel i7 3.40 GHz 64 bit, 16 GB RAM, INTEL SSDSC solid state hard drive 223 GB (about one quarter full). I did not have these problems with Windows 7, or the Windows 8 pre releases.

I like to start with simple things that might work: system restore especially if you know about when your problem began, sfc /scannow (may need to run multiple times--say 3), automatic repair (may need to run multiple times--say 3).

No luck with those attempts. Try creating a new user account of the same type you typically login with? Copy everything you will need to the new account if it works. Then, delete the old account. You can go back to the original user name similarly. Before you do so, make sure that deleting the original user account also deleted that users folder in C: > Users. Sometimes this folder does not get deleted. If not, then going back to the original user name creates a minor only superficial "problem." To delete the folder, you may have to take ownership. I would not go back the the original user name using any other procedure.
