Laptop screen glitches

Q: Laptop screen glitches

A few days ago my laptop started doing something weird - I would watch a video on YouTube or browsing the internet when my screen would glitch out and then I am not able to do anything. Most of the times the laptop will keep on running but the screen is frozen. Yesterday I even got blue screen after that happening.

Those are the specifications. I am using Windows 7 Proffesional. My GPU is Nvidia Geforce 525M 2GB + The the graphics card that comes with the processor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Lately I've been having a very frustrating problem with my Dell Latitude D830 laptop, running Windows XP Service Pack 3. Anyway, for the past few days it has begun displaying graphics glitches: a "blinking" black screen on and off, covering anything colored white with pink speckles all over it, and sometimes either freezing to a solid black or pink screen with a few random lines in a square where my mouse cursor is, or rebooting on its own. Worried I might have a virus, I ran both Malwarebytes and Norton full scans and both came up clean. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or a hardware problem. I'm not terribly computer literate, but hopefully I've included enough information. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this and how I can fix it?

Will a systems recovery work even after a system restored was done to remove any viruses, worms, trojans etc...I did a system restore twice and the glitches are still around. Changing sites, advertizing etc.. Very annoying.

Would be perhaps better- initially at least - to consider a few clean out utilities; and there are several regularly recommended and used here by the regulars. All are free. Install each using the "manual or custom" option - NOT the automatic. Using the automatic option more or less guarantees assorted unwanted items installed, unwanted changes made to the system, as they are ("helpfully") pre-checked for you... Hi folks!
New to this board, (relatively) new to laptops, old hand with PCs in general...

Have an IBM thinkpad 390E that I bought used about 6 mos ago
(P II, 333 mHz, 128M, 6G drive, 14.1 TFT display, Win 98 SE) that I use primarily for off-loading photo files from my Oly E-20 while on the road...

Just recently the display started occasionally getting freaky -- blanking out for just a second, showing certain colors as pixelized dots, making others jittery...Seems to start after it's been on for a while...

I'm thinking ribbon cable from base to display, but just don't know enough about this particular hardware to want to rip into it without a little more info...

Any thoughts, ideas?

Thanks

I have a Gateway Media Center Computer Running Media Center Edition 2005 Rollback 2.
I have this irritating lines that are allover the screen and dont know how to get rid of them. Its not the monitor, it's fine. I'm thinking its either a virus or the video card NVIDIA software.
Does anyone else have this problem? When I scroll down, the lines just keep getting worse. It's like a distortion of any text input field. Sometimes images scroll down and out of place. Any help would be useful.

Thank you,

Lee

I've been experiencing screen glitches on my XPS 2710 recently. I've tried updating drivers & the bois. However these glitches do not happen on an external monitor, they only happen on the built-in screen. It seems to be related with the amount of white on the screen, I can use the computer normally while watching youtube videos but when i fullscreen something with lighter colors everything starts to flicker/glitch. This also happens if i use the built-in screen as an a external monitor for my laptop, so I has to be related to the hardware or the firmware of the screen.

Here is a video demoing the problem. When i fullscreen the intel graphics application, everything goes green but when i restore it to normal size it goes back to just flashing. Changing the brightness also affects the speed at which the flashing occurs.

Hello I'm Katie and I am new to the forum I purchased an ASUS laptop yesterday with Windows and I've rarely used W before this I'm more used to glitches a few new Brand discovered laptop- XP I replaced my absolutely horrible Dell laptop so basically nothing can be worse But I've run into a few bugs with this computer First off when I closed the laptop it didn't shut down properly which is strange since it's a new laptop I have also had issues with Windows Media Player Basically it won't start and then there's some sort of execution error I've also had issues with a program I installed but I think it's just the program being difficult rather than the fault of the laptop I have also had issues with Windows DVD Maker it slowed down the computer then stopped responding altogether Nonetheless I got this computer hoping to fix some of the glitches from the Dell I still have faith that this computer is good for me I've just got some problems I've got to fix and then it will be smooth Could someone give me very simple instructions on how to fix these issues Oh I forgot to add that I'd also like to disable the clicking with the mouse pad option I'd much rather use the buttons they provide I can't figure out how to do that either

A:Brand new laptop- discovered a few glitches

Welcome to the Forums!

Please let us know which model laptop you have bought, this way our help may be more precise. Also, please ask more precise questions, you will see what I mean below.

Almost any laptop can be programmed to do one of the three things when you close it - it should either shut down, or sleep, or hibernate. This can be set in Power Options in the control panel. (Go to Start->Control Panel->Power Options->Choose what closing the lid does (should be on the left)).

Other questions you asked are less precise and I cannot answer them before you make them clear:

What were you doing with the DVD maker? What do you mean by "stopped responding"? What exactly happened? Did you get an error message?

What error have you run into with the Media Player? What kind of file you were trying to play?

Which buttons do you want to use? Do you mean mouse buttons or the laptop's touch pad or something else? Some people want to disable the touch pad altogether and use a USB mouse instead? Is that what you want to do or there are some other buttons specific to your laptop (again, what's the model of the device?)

I hope you can see from my questions what I mean by making the questions precise. Remember, we don't have your laptop in front of us, we can only go by what you have told us yourself!

Recently i have aquired my brother's computer and it has been shutting with a blue screen and it glitching often. I have run several scans with avast but nothing is showing up i have also  downloaded malwarebytes(which has deleted several pups).  I fear that my recently acquired computer may be infected with a nasty virus. This is my first computer and I don't know what to do other than to wipe the computer. Help/advice would be very much appreciated. The computer runs on windows 7.

A:reoccuring blue screen and glitches

Hello, aureliane.B! Let's start with some important instructions:
Avoid installing or uninstalling programs during the malware removal process, because doing so can cause discrepancies between the information in different log files created by different programs at different times.
Do NOT run tools such as Combofix unless instructed by a BleepingComputer staff member. These tools can break your computer if used improperly, so you should only run them if you know what you are doing or if the person who told you to use Combofix knows what they're doing.
If you want to, you should back up all important documents and files to an external storage device or online file backup service. Malware infections--and attempts to fix them--can prevent your computer from booting up, making your files unaccessable; this means that backing up your files to an USB flash drive or to an online service like Dropbox before attempting to remove malware is a good idea.
Step 1: Rkill

Please download Rkill by Grinler, and save it to your desktop.
Run the program. If you are using Windows Vista or above, you should right click the program and select "Run as administrator".
A Black DOS box should appear; this indicates that the program is functioning.
The program will generate a log file on your desktop. Post the contents of that file in your next reply.
Do not restart your computer until the other steps are finished.

Step 2: Please download MiniToolBox by Farbar, and save it to your desktop.

Run the program. Please select the following options:

Flush DNS
Report IE proxy settings
Reset IE proxy settings
Report FF proxy settings
Reset FF proxy settings
List winsock entries
List content of Hosts
List installed programs
List last 10 event viewer errors
List restore points
After the program finishes its job, it will create a log file called "Result.txt" on your desktop. Post the contents of that file in your next reply.

Step 3: Run ESET online scanner

Using Internet Explorer, navigate to http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner-popup/ (If you used another web browser, such as Firefox, you will have to download an installer file)
Read through the program's terms of use. If you agree with it, check the checkbox which confirms that you accepted the program's terms of use. If you do not agree with its terms of use, then notify me and I can find another virus cleaning solution for you.
Accept any security warnings which may appear.
Click on the advanced settings part, and select "Scan for potentially unsafe applications","remove found threats", and "Scan archives".
Check "scan for potentially unwanted applications".
Click "start".
Eset will download updates and scan your computer; this may take a few minutes to a few hours.
When the scan completes, click "list threats".
Click "Export", and save the log file to your desktop.
Post the contents of the log file to your next forum post. Please note that if ESET does not detect anything, it may not necessarily generate a log file.
Step 4: Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode, and save it to your desktop.

Click on the "scan" button.
The tool will scan your computer for adware; this may take a few minutes.
After the scan has finished, click on the "Report" button. A logfile, AdwCleaner[R0].txt, will show.
After viewing the log, close the log file window. View the list of adware detections, and uncheck ones that you do not want to remove(i.e. the ones which you're sure to be benign).
Press the "Clean" button. You will be requested to restart your computer.
After restarting your computer, a log file called AdwCleaner[S0].txt will show. Post the contents of that log file in your next reply.

Step 5: Please download Junkware Removal Tool by thisisu to your desktop.
Please turn off your antivirus program before running the tool to avoid conflicts. Remember to turn your antivirus back on afterwards.
Run the program. If you are using Windows Vista or a... Read more

Hi,I am happy user of Lenovo Z51 laptop which works fine just some time ago screen started to show some strange flickers when computer is working. They are best seen on white background of browser but they also appear while I'm looking at desktop. They appear and dissapear after a second, I found that they tend to show up in larger numbers when computer is under higher stress (like gaming or doing some calculations).  Here's the photo, I managed to make a screenshots when those flickers are visible: http://prntscr.com/bj4xxohttp://prntscr.com/bj5632I'm using WIN 10. Any ideas?

A:Strange glitches on the screen Lenovo Z51-70

Hi Walt27 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As the screen show more of the "=" marks on your screenshots , check if the same would show up on an external monitor as this manifest as GPU issue.

You may also try to run in safe mode to check if the display would do the same.
See if the BIOS and driver are updated from the support site .

If same issue goes , run the hardware diagnostics and temperature test for isolation.

Update us as it goes.

My computer has a partitioned hard drive and has both windows 8 and windows 7. I have only used windows 7. When I turn it on sometimes it will load all the way to my windows 7 desktop then it says the display graphics quit working and then goes black but the screen is still light up. I have a NVIDIA graphics card. Can someone help me figure out what the problem is and help me fix it.

A:screen glitches and sometimes will light up but is still black

Welcome to sevenforums.

Fill in all your system specs in your profile, the best that you can.

That sounds like a video card not getting enough power, (or is broken) like if you booted up and forgot to connect a 6pin power connector or PSU could be too weak (broken?) to handle the card.

Or a heat issue on the video card itself, like thermal paste and/or heatsink fan failure.

The monitor itself is still on, totally from it's own power.

I would acquire a Linux distribution LIVE disc and boot to it [makes no changes to hardware at all] and if it runs perfectly for a while, than it's not a power issue. [distrowatch.com for various flavors of Linux, get a Live that fits on CD if download size is issue]

So in summary, probably a video card failure due to lack of power issue or heat, swap the card out for an old one is first thing I would do and clean out case and check all the fans involved.

Replace paste on video card and retest if you don't have a spare old card.
Artic MX-4 is recommended thermal paste, $10 gets you multiple applications of it, I'd replace it anyway.

You able to boot into safe mode?

Welcome to Seven Forums. I would suggest making sure I had the latest drivers for my chipset and video from Dells site if no 7 drivers are avalible use Vista in compatibility mode. Compatibility Mode. Also I would have run the Window Seven upgrade advisor first before installing the 64 bit version you might have been better off with the 32 bit. How many MB's of ram do you have? I would first try the frist 2 suggestions. than post back if your still experiencing the same problem. Thanks Fabe

Hi whenever I turn on the computer and the bootscreen appears, funny lines and flashes appear. When Windows loads up, lines appear across the screen. If I open a game those glitches still don't go away. I tried to find the latest update for a RADEON 9800 PRO driver for Windows XP but can't find one.. here are some pictures -

I tried reinstalling my driver from a CD but after reinstallation when Windows loads up, the computer freezes and I can only access on Safe Mode so I did a system restore and now I'm still stuck like this..

So my final question is..

How the hell do I fix this?
If I need to update my driver where can I find the right update? (I've been searching ages and I'm not sure which one I need..)

A:Glitches on Boot screen and Windows

Well you might need to try download driver from ATI.com Website and click on ATI Products then make sure you download right software and driver for it. Or also double check see sometimes videocards can go bad over time there are newer ones. I know it is fine before maybe they stop makeing drivers for that series. Just check see if they do have that driver for it. If not you might have to upgrade or just check also see it is your moniter?

Hi

I have been experiencing problems with my laptop whenever I play League of Legends, it tends to crash and create a buzzing sound that would hang up the computer. A:Computer crashes and glitches when gaming (laptop)

Most common cause of this type of issue, especially laptops, when stressed (ie: gaming) is heat. Very likely, the system is overheating, thus causing it to lock up.

Some of my Metro apps have just started to act weird.

My Email app just show a black screen.
XE currency loads forever and my Windows Store just flicker parts of the screen.
Metro shows weird search results.

Is there a fix for this?

I got an Acer 8935G so there only exists one VGA driver for this laptop. I installed it a couple of days ago and I'm suspecting this to be the cause since it wasnt like this before I installed the driver.

But I hope this is not the cause since with this laptop model, I dont have any choice when it comes to display drivers.

Hello Balleflass,

For the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670, have you already tried the latest AMD 13.1 WHQL or 13.4 BETA drivers at the AMD link below for Windows 8?

If they don't want to install in Windows 8.1, then you might see if installing them using compatibility mode with Windows 8 selected may allow them to.

(32-bit)
Legacy 8 - 32

OR

(64-bit)
Legacy 8 - 64
Hope this helps,
Shawn

For a few weeks now I've occasionally been getting graphics driver crashes Before the crash lots of small squares start flickering over both of my monitors in a pattern getting more and more intense before the screens go black and I get black crashes BSoD, and Graphical screen glitches an error message saying the graphics driver has crashed and restarted Recently these episodes have become BSoD, Graphical glitches and black screen crashes more frequent Yesterday one of these resulted in a BSoD and a complete computer crash It wasn't like a BSoD I'd seen before I don't think there was an BSoD, Graphical glitches and black screen crashes error code but I can't BSoD, Graphical glitches and black screen crashes remember any specifics Since then I've had several system crashes I've not had the squares for a while but most of the recent ones have been preceded by the active window suddenly becoming unresponsive shortly followed by the mouse becoming unresponsive and then a total crash A couple of times the computer doesn't sound like it crashed by both my screens just go black Once my primary monitor detected no input but my secondary monitor remained as it was before normally it would act as the primary monitor if I disconnected my main screen It went back to normal upon restarting I should add that to the best of my knowledge I've not been using any intensive applications recently I've definitely not used any graphically intensive applications for quite a while I really have no idea what's going on but my computer is currently unusable as it is crashing frequently and randomly I updated the graphics driver but this has done nothing I've attached the CPU-Z report and dxdiag if they're at all relevant - if there's anything else you need please ask The specifications are Intel Core i - k OC'd by manufacturer GB RAM Not sure what brand ATI HD GB not OC'd CX W PSU Running Windows -bit Thanks in advance

OK this just started a couple of days ago and it's definitely getting worse I started noticing it when playing videos through Mediaplayer There would be full screen graphics glitches that would just glitches, screen video Sudden freeze blue flash for a moment Then it started full freezing blue screen one monitor green screen on monitor not sold colors I'm using a monitor set up I also had a glitch where my cursor would get about x as big and there would be random horitonzal and vertical bars of pixels attached to it It only happened on monitor when I'd move the cursor over to monitor it would Sudden video glitches, blue screen freeze turn into a normal cursor Now its happening a lot It looks like my system continues to run even after the screen turns Sudden video glitches, blue screen freeze blue I had a Skype call and it kept ringing even after the glitch occurs I have to turn the system off Sudden video glitches, blue screen freeze and back on but the quot freeze quot looks like its just a permanent graphics glitch until restart So it started through Mediaplayer when playing movies now it occurs all the time - but mostly when switching windows not usually when the system is idle I didnt do anything to my system No hardware changing or anything it just started happening out of nowhere I'm on an i with an ASUS motherboard GB of DDR ram and Radeon video cards I've got a quot LED monitor and a quot LCD monitor for my setup The glitch occurs on both monitors I found out that i can make it happen anytime I want if i open a link in a new window in firefox the glitch occurs every time as soon as the window starts to open there's a flash of the glitched video covering the window It also happens when I open a Skype window It doesnt just occur in the window im opening it occurs across both of my monitors Pretty much anytime I open a new window in anything - it causes the glitch And sometimes it freezes the system entirely

A:Sudden video glitches, blue screen freeze

Welcome to SF, unfungames.

First, do the following:

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.
When you say blue screen, is it the blue screen of death (with error messages) or just a blank blue screen.

Have you updated your video and audio drivers?

I just got a new Inspiron 15 5000 series model P39F a couple days ago for work.
What is happening is periodically while I am on the laptop the screen glitches/blinks black then all is fine until it does it again. There is no pattern and it just happens every once in a while. Not sure if I need to adjust a setting or if this is a display/screen defect.
Anybody else have this happen to them?

My Windows XP Pro PC Asus p Series motherboard Pentium processor GB Ram mb MSI Graphics Card Matrox RTX Video card keeps getting scattered glitches across the screen and then very soon after the system locks up freezes and then sometimes completely crashes The computer was self built about years ago mainly by a friend and its main purpose was to video edit but hasnt been right from the start I had used it and my crash scattered system lock across screen, up/freeze glitches ok and edited a few things but stopped using it for some time when it started to crash quite often I tried using it agian recently but now I get this happening within the first min of using it One thing i always thought was that it scattered glitches across my screen, system lock up/freeze and crash got to hot the software temperature gauge often showed it approaching red all the time but this was confusing because I have fans on the case scattered glitches across my screen, system lock up/freeze and crash one in a flap out the top of the case plus I mounted a fan in a spare AGP slot near the graphics card I wondered if the CPU was still over heating and causing this in that case I wouldn t have a clue what to do or if the graphics card was faulty in which case would I need a new one I wouldn t want to spend a lot in case this wasn t the problem Thanks scattered glitches across my screen, system lock up/freeze and crash in advance for any help you can give nbsp

Hi -There are 2 options to look at with this type of fault -The first known one is Power Supply Unit is Faulty / Dying / or just not putting out enough power - Have it tested - Known to produce "Pixilated effect" -The other one involves your WerFault.exe error , also known as Windows Error and Fault Reporting.exe tool -This is one solution if there are currently no hardware problems on your system, or there are no other major software Errors on your system -The Werfault.exe process is a part of Windows Error Reporting in Windows (Vista and Windows7) - If you do not want certain executable files or programs to send error reports, you may also create a block list. These are detailed steps you can follow to customize Windows Error and Fault Reporting.exe tool1.Go to Windows Error Reporting > open Control Panel. 2.Click > System and Maintenance, and then click > Problem Reports and Solutions.3.Click > Change Settings located in the left panel of the Problem Reports and Solutions window.4.Select an option to configure how you want Windows to look for a solution to your problems. You may allow Windows to do it automatically or ask you every time to check if problem occurs.5.Next, click the > Advanced settings link.6.Select On or Off to configure whether you want to use Error Reporting or not.7.Click Change settings and choose the appropriate option to configure how you want problem reporting to be set for all users and programs.8.If you choose to use Error Reporting, then click the second Change setting button to configure how error reporting is set for all users. Here, you can choose from the following consent levels: - Ask each time a problem occurs ? Windows Error Reporting will ask for permission before sending an error report- Automatically check for solutions ? Minimal data is sent to find a possible fix. After consent is given, more data may be sent if requested by Microsoft.- Automatically check for solutions and send additional information if needed ? Minimal data along with data that the application developer has indicated as a requirement is sent. This sent data does not contain any personally identifiable information. After consent is given, more data may be supplied if requested by Microsoft.- Send all data - All data is sent, no prompt required. This setting is configurable only in Group Policy.9.If you do not want certain executable files or programs to send error reports, you may create a block list. To do this, click Add in the Block list section.10.Browse through your programs and add them to the list.11.Click OK to save your settings. You can try the above method as a side line, but it may not fully repair the problem, just the Werfault.exe pop-upsIf you are having any other major problems, do not disable this but post back with the other problems only -Thank You -

It's not the size of the display screen, these are all fairly identical. It is the connector socket and the rail screw positions that will bite you.

I suggest finding an exact replacement. If you can't find one on eBay then you certainly will at a store like this one:

Yes, everybody will be glad to know, [including those who lost interest] that I'm moving on to new PC, a desktop this time, getting rid of the disastrous laptop at last!!
It was eventually repaired, [over 16 weeks away] new motherboard & heatsink, I'm not paying a penny, my first techie is paying around 300.
The desktop isn't built yet, so as from 9am, local time,Thursday, the 22nd of July, I'll be offline whilst the build is done, as I've already sold the dread machine.

Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions & advice during THIS chapter, no doubt I'll be back with fresh queries, [groans all round, I suspect!] getting used to the new rig.

Maurice.

Maybe a complete coincidence, but since installing SP2 on my Gateway desktop with built in multi card reader, Vista is reporting that my card reader would run better if plugged into a USB 2.0 port. And it does seem to have slowed down considerably reading CF cards. Or am I facing a hardware issue completely separate from the SP2 install (which did install flawlessly).

hi, welcome to TSG.

IMPORTANT! Move Hijack this from the F:\ to the C:\ folder so it can run properly
and make backups!

Make a new folder in C:\ and call it Hijack this, and Save hijack this to
this folder so that it runs properly and can make back ups. Click scan,
then save the log and post it here so we can take a look at it for you.

Click here to download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe and save it to your desktop.

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=7

* Close all windows before continuing.
* Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
* You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
* When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
* You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
* When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Your computer will then shutdown.
* Turn your computer back on.
* Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.

My W 7 Desktop is having all kinds of glitches. The settings change, the time zone changes, these are examples of the glitches. I have scanned with Avast, Malwarebytes, super anti spyware and all was clean. I even downloaded adware cleaner and Mcafee stinger, nothing comes up.

My question is...........could this symptoms of my computer dying. I bought it in Nov, 2010.

A:Glitches in my W 7

I would start by running a System File Check (up to 3 times) to see if there are any errors that can't be fixed.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi I Glitches am trying to fix a lot of old time problems that I have never handled before and was wondering if anyone had any idea how to go about fixing them My monitor flashes Glitches off for a few seconds at start up and then back on Monitor is at optimal resolution setting and Glitches is locked at its optimal refresh rate After having my computer rebuilt a couple years ago I can't load any other antivirus software such as Norton with GoBack since it partitioned the hard drive My GB hard drive is partitioned in with a C and D drive But I wouldn't think that GoBack's partition should interfere so badly that it would crash my system causing me to do a System Restore I have been using Avira Antivira Premium now but I kind of like how user friendly Norton and some other antivirus programs are Just wondering why I am unable to do this When I set my settings for my screensaver and automatic power down options my monitor won't respond to my settings It either does the screensaver and then goes back to the desktop OR it powers down if I set the screensaver and the power time to the same time which really is my only option Any ideas how I can get it to use the screensaver and then power down I cannot install IE Every time I even attempt to the browser is not recognized and I almost didn't get IE back Took me a few attempts But I am able to get it to work for IE now I am just wondering how I can get IE too For a long time quot My Computer quot was working fine One day out of the blue I opened up quot My Computer quot and the drives weren't categorized like they once were Now I know I can manually categorize them But I am wondering how the categories could become erased to nothing listed at all for the C D and optical drives and say quot unspecified quot for things like my webcam and scanners and such I didn't change anything for this to happen Plus just a couple weeks ago I removed my floppy drive and it is still listed under my computer as if it still exists Now the technician who built my computer a couple years ago included some software that I suspect might be conflicting with some of the other things I am wondering if anyone else thinks the same thing He placed AnyDVD and CloneDVD on my computer and told me that I shouldn't try to get an updated version if this software prompts me to Anyone have any suggestions to make my system glitch free

A:Glitches

What happens when you try to install other antivirus? what error messages.

Tell more about your computer, cpu, ram, harddrive free space on each partition? Do you have your xp cd?

As far as updating anyDVD and CloneDVD, it sounds like your tech installed pirated copies of those programs. Any updates would invalidate them.

My pc recently developed several glitches:
Click on icons/buttons in web browser and nothing happens
Try to print documents from any application and nothing happens
Basic functions stop working e.g copy, paste etc.
Cannot attach documents to e-mails

Restarting the pc sometimes temporarily relieves these problems but they come back after a few minutes.

I also just started getting a window pop up when using web browser that says 'TypeError: oE is null'

I am running Windows 7 and McAfee Security Center.

A:Various glitches

I think McAfee is causing the problem.

I would download Avast! Free Antivirus (offline installer ideally, if someone could post a link to that, I couldn't find it and got sick of looking) to a usb thumb drive using another computer. Then fully uninstall all McAfee software. Then install Avast from the thumb drive, and then see if the problems still persist.  That's what I would do. You may want to wait for different advice from someone else, it's up to you.

Have you tried it? Do you know of any glitches in it? Do you like it?

Do you think I should download it now or wait a while?

Thanks!

Hello I have an odd System 'glitches' problem that has been occurring for a while now with varying frequency but I have finally decided to find a solution So the problem is basically what I can only describe as a series of glitches that become more frequent over around - minutes It starts off as the odd System 'glitches' glitch in whatever sound it being played maybe once every seconds and then they get closer together until the sound is awful and full of these glitches by this point however the computing is affect too as the screen with glitch lag too and so I have to restart the computer if I actually want to do anything I have noticed this happen while in range of programmes and System 'glitches' even when just listening to music and not actually using an System 'glitches' intensive programmes I can only assume that it is the CPU becoming overworked and lagging for a fraction of a second I have watched Task manager while the problem has progressed and I can see my cpu load percentage getting higher as the glitches become more regular until it is at and the pc unusable I have had this problem while using both Windows and windows I hope someone else as experienced this problem and knows what to do Thanks in advance

Please provide the reports from the following instructions. They can help us to track down possible software conflicts on the system, which is what this seems like from your description. I thought that some problems I'm having with YouTube were YT's fault, but the main one is worse with IE and Firefox than with Chrome. On certain comments, the only replies which are visible are my own, and in IE and FF, none are visible. Is there something I can to fix it, or do I just need to wait for YT to get off their [donkeys] and fix it along with the other glitches I've reported?

I have a Micron PIII running windows XP. I'm having a problem with my monitor glitching on and off that seems to happen more frequently the more I use it. I figured it probably wasn't a hard drive error but I went ahead and put a new hard drive in it and reformatted it. The problem still exists. Would it be the video card? Or do you think it's the monitor itself?

A:Hangs Glitches After I Buy?

Could it have been so simple? And If it were, why didn't you say so?
Don't know why the hangs in IE, but .....

Disconnected the storage drive. Turned it back on and am surfing the internet, so far with no hangs. Video drivers have returned to normal.

To be clear- turned it on this morning, went straight to IE - hangs-- left it there. Switched via KVM to other computer to really get some work done and I hear a system beep. It hung for approx 1hr30m and restarted itself. ( I left it deliberately to hope the IE would turn itself in, so to speak and Microsoft would shoot me an error and a what to do about it. The computer started all by itself by passing any safe mode- etc and went straight to windows. So I grab the mouse, and dang it's hung again and the HD light is still on like it's searching. I leave it -again - clock second hand on gadget stopped as well. So I switch back to other computer to keep working and I hear a startup noise from the Win 7 machine. I switch back to it and it's still hung, ctl shft esc does not work. (PS I took the Win 7 off the KVM switch and put ps2 mouse and keyboard - thinking the usb that others have been listing as trouble may be caused by the KVM switch). I wait, still hung and finally I am sick of it, as someone said I wanted to drop kick it into the sea. I shut it down. I collect all the OS I have available starting with XP and line em up thinking I'm going to load them all on one after the other until it bleeds.

Then I restarted with the XP disk in, got all the way to install and only one drive is listed, the 80 gb. I'm almost ready to pull the plug on Win 7--- finger poised over go-ahead make-my day XP installation and it occurred to me... if XP can't find my large SATAII drive what makes me think Win 7 can. Shut er off. unplugged the power to the IDE drive and restarted and well..... Im still here......

I will try re-cabling the 80gb to the secondary port, and if it don't work then it will go into storage. And I will return and post to myself.

Thank you for just being here, I don't feel like I'm all alone in this.

O9s are extra buttons on IE toolbars.

O16s are ActiveX controls placed on your machine by websites you've visited.

None appear to be threats.

That said....

You are using an outdated version of Hijack This. Please delete your current version and download HijackThis. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS\

Please post a new log with the updated version.

I'm wondering if anyone knows about a half decent site to obtain patches and the works, because I think Gothic III has to have at least a few patches... ...somewhere...

Also, upon pretty much completing everything there is to do in the game, I still have a few things that stump me or are elusive to my gaming senses and if any jellin' individual reads this and knows where to find a high detail and easy to navigate walkthrough for Gothic III, it would help me out a lot.

[Dell Inspiron 560 desktop; MS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit; Windows Live Mail 2012; MS Word Pro 2003; Mozilla Firefox 22.0]

After I reinstalled WLMail2011 and upgraded to WLMail2012; and after a techy made a Windows clean install...I still get some annoying glitches. Could someone help please?:

1. No auto-complete function.

2. The undo function from the little “Undo” arrow function doesn’t work!

3. There’s nothing ever in the “Junk” folders. Only the ones I send to them. How to train it to dump the spam?

4. Files in Sent and in Inbox arrive in multiple sub-files i.e.: each time there’s an answer it lands under the original name of file. How can I have it as before, one by one where sent files go to the Sent folder and not to the Inbox. Confusing!!!

Thanks ever so much for any ideas to fix these. Adela

I would say the WLM has installed badly the way to stop spam and other junk mail you don't want is to go to your emails > right click on the email > go to properties it will give you the address > copy it and then go to top left hand blue button > Options > Safety options > Blocked senders > Add paste that address in the box > OK > Apply and no more from that site

However I think you might have to reinstall the WLM if the scans cannot cure the problem

I have set to the task of revamping my fathers PC He uses this PC for all his work so the security and correct backup and glitches Image storage of all his data is paramount He is currently running an AMD Athlon XP those good old processors that we all loved so much MB of DDR RAM ATI Radeon SE mb hard disks The system boot disk is GB and the storage disk is GB Both are IDE I selected Image glitches a Image glitches Gigabyte M PME-S mobo socket AM AM with an AMD dual core processor and a GB of Corsair DDR twin X RAM for the upgrade In another thread several cloning image creators were listed for me I used the Acronis disk image creator to create an image however I have a new set of problems One of the major problems so far has been the fact that the new motherboard the new one listed in the original post only has one IDE channel on it This I have had so constantly switch out the secondary HDD I will call it E - the one that has the image of the system drive with the CD drive So to be clear I have HDDs C and E and a CD drive D and only of them can function at a time at present the System drive C has to remain connected obviously To perform the Image recovery I connected both HDDs leaving no CD Drive usable in the system At one point I was prompted to insert my Windows CD because the system said it had many quot unknown quot versions of windows files and in order to keep windows running stably it required the Windows CD to correct the problem Well at the time I did not have a functioning CD drive So instead I hit cancel to shut down the system and reconnect the the CD drive and attempted to reboot no luck it gets to the load screen and then stalls I also have tried replacing the boot sector via windows repair also no go What can I do nbsp

You can get an IDE cable with two connectors on it. One of the devices will then need to be set as a slave (there is a little tiny shorting plug next to the power connector to be shifted with tweezers). The necessary settings are printed on every hard drive.

A possibly better solution all round is buy a USB drive, such as Seagate freeagent or similar, which are both enormous and cheap, yet completely portable, and need no driver in XP upwards, yet are essentially no slower than a built-in drive.

Oh, sorry, you have an image restore problem....I don't know why the image did not restore without asking for Windows programs, but normally, you would need a startup program to run Acronis at all, such as a floppy disk set, or ideally, a CD as well as the Hard drive with the image, and another which is the target. Could be two separate partitions on one drive as well, but essential point is Acronis restore does not run under Windows itself.

So my suggestion would be, buy a USB drive. Get a friend to copy the image file onto it. With the USB drive attached, boot your PC from the Acronis install CD and restore the image to the HDD. QED.

Since upgrading to Firefox version 2.0.0.3 yesterday I am having trouble accessing a couple of very important web sites. One is Yahoo Finance's Market Tracker, a real time java quote service. I have the latest version of Java installed and running properly and Yahoo Support says they have no trouble accessing my portfolio on their end, but each time I try to open the module all I get is a blank screen. Yahoo washed their hands of the issue saying the problem must be on my end, either with my computer or browser. The problem occurs using either Firefox (preferred) or IE 7.0.
A second problem is getting a page full of computer gobbledy-gook when I click on my bookmark for the Wall Street Journal's Market Data page.
that link is: http://online.wsj.com/mdc/public/pag...egory=Currency

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks.

Do you have any blocker plugins installed in Firefox, something like NoScript? They may have been reset after the upgrade.

Have you checked your firewall settings for blocking scripts?

I'm using Longhorn Build 4008 and I was wondering if anyone could help me with some issues. After I installed it, none of my drivers seem to work, and it won't let me reinstall them. My printer, a Lexmark X83, didn't work after the switch to longhorn, and when I put in the CD, it doesn't even give me the option to install the software. The same with my radeon graphics card, it won't let me install the software. If I download the software, it doesn't recognize it as affiliated with my device. If anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it. Thank You.

Download the latest version of the video drivers to your desktop
Uninstall the current video drivers
Install the freshly downloaded video drivers

If that doesn't fix it, take it back and get a new one. No sense in hassling with a faulty laptop if it's brand new.

Hi there. I'm currently using Windows XP on a compaq laptop. Ever so often, my keyboard stops working. When i punch a key, it will execute a random action. For example, if i pressed the letter C, the File option on my browser opens up. The mouse is no better either. Every link or shortcut i click on brings up the Save As menu. These 'glitches' tend to disappear after rebooting the laptop.

I don't think that this problem is hardware related. I do not know where the problem lies. Could it that it's caused by a virus/worm? Or is it a software config probem.

Cheers,

An interesting occurrence...Windows Update offered an update vaguely referred to as software distribution or something like it...I said OK...when it had installed itself, not only could I not access the internet but the old errors returned. So reinstalled SP2 and we are OK now....turned off automatic updates.....always learning..

Thanks to all who helped,

I have recently encountered several problems when uninstalling programs in Vista I have uninstalled the following programs and both have given me various problems After uninstalling these you may encounter these problems Norton extreme registry problems I solved these by running registy booster Glitches Uninstall Various conflicts Although minor I downloaded and used tuneup untilities which found over a hundred errors and fixed them Residue I remember having to do a system restore and download a little program which gets rid of the residue that Norton leaves behind Nero After uninstalling Nero I had to uninstall it because it Uninstall Glitches conflicted with Vista I realised that my cd dvd drive was not working and was missing After looking through the forums I found an answer by editing some values in the registry with Reg Edit Apparently uninstalling Nero deleted and reset these values NB In the short period between changing antivirus progs I managed to catch a virus A in trojan Well that took me days to get rid of but I persisted and got rid of it in the end

A:Uninstall Glitches

When changing antivirus programs, the best way is to download the one you want.... then disconnect from the Internet. Disable and uninstall the problem antivirus, deleting all it's program folders. Then run the installer and set-up for the new antivirus. Go back online and download the current definitions.Sorry you had such a hassle!

However,if look at this thread HERE you`ll see that it can be very difficult problem to diagnose.

A:Gigabyte/New PC...glitches???

THe devices list is a normal part of the boot up as is the Verifying DMI Pool. You could enter the BIOS and make sure Fast boot is enabled if it is available. Or select load optimized defaults if it isn't. You could also upgrade to WinXP. This OS is more optimized for the faster processors.

The other day my computer suddenly froze completely. When I restarted my system and opened Windows Messenger, more than half of the window was black. I later opened Mozilla and the link drop down menu was also black.

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

A:Black Glitches

First step after a improper shutdown that displays issues for me is to run a secure file check, to make sure the improper shutdown did not result in damage to any core system files.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
After that step I would then attempt to return to the default theme, by right clicking the desktop choosing personalize and clicking the first aero theme listed.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.

My father just put in a ATI Radeon HD 5800 Video card into my computer (I'm running windows 7 btw.) I had two monitors plugged in but I misplaced my power chord for one. While it was plugged my main monitor which is an ACER H243H was all glitchy and whatnot. Lines would flash as a new page would load. I unplugged my other monitor and if fixed it. Now i found the chord and hooked it up and that is a LG L1732TQ. Now that monitor is all glitch when things load. Like my background is on a shuffle of my musics album art and when ever it changes or i load a new web page is glitches out. What could I do to stop it?

A:Monitor Glitches

The first thing I'd look at is to see if your PSU has enough watts to run the Video card

Just finished putting my new computer together and have some glitches I am hoping to get some help with glitches New with Build some Parts listed in my signature When I installed the chipset drivers my DVD drive stopped working I did a rollback and uninstalled them and the DVD drive worked again So next I installed the chipset drivers again but this time left out the IDE drivers That fixed the problem I am now using windows stock IDE drivers and all seems to be fine Anyone see any problems here Also I have the Antec Sonata case and it comes with the Antec SmartPower W Psu The PSU fan on the back of the case does not New Build with some glitches seem to be working There is of course another fan on the PSU inside the case and it is working there is a healthy flow of luke warm air coming out of the PSU I am assuming that this is normal for this PSU to keep it quiet and the fan will only turn on if it is needed I can t find any info on the Antec site on this Thanks in advance nbsp

A:New Build with some glitches

As far as your ide drivers go I don`t think there should be a problem using the generic Windows drivers.

You Antec psu has a fan design as follows. Fan system design: One fan spins when it powers up, the second fan starts to spin when the power supply reaches certain temperatures to ensure power airflow.

I can't run any games or programs at 1680x1050 with SLI enabled; the screen is garbled and all glitchy (but is fine at the Desktop). I have two GeForce 8600GT cards running Beta drivers 169.09 (I rolled back from the most recent in hopes that it would resolve the issue). The monitor is an Acer AL2016W which I just got today, and I'm very disappointed that I get these issues.

There's nothing that appears in lower resolutions, and if I have SLI disabled it looks just fine. Are there any workarounds, is this just a fault of the cards, or is it something different?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

A:1680x1050 Sli Glitches

It might just be the bad drivers. SLI and Crossfire have been known for bad drivers. You might be able to find a workaround (until new drivers are released), but I don't know of any, sorry.

I've got pcA 11.5 installed on (2) W2K PCs in my home office...use it only for transferring/synchronizing files. Got two problems...

1) With either on and idling as "Host," when I launch the other in "File Transfer" mode, it never detects the other PC the first time, but always instantaneously the second try. How can I get it to "find" the other PC the first try?

2) When I drag "File Transfer" from the remote menu to my desktop (per Tech Support instructions), it targets "file transfer.chm," but launches in "remote control" mode, not file transfer. They said whichever item from the menu was made into an icon would start pcA in that mode.

Can anybody help, pls?

Im confused about what causes frame overlap(when you start to see clear lines in textures because your graphics card puts out more frames than refresh rate limit on your monitor). I've been getting this wierd graphical problem and have tried things like v-sync, but i just cant seem to get rid of all these extra textures. Whats even more wierd is the fact that my framerate rarely exceeds my monitor's refresh rate, so i am not suppossed to be seeing these clear lines. Does anyone have any ideas as to how i can fix this?

Hi, I have HP Pavilion laptop bought just two weeks ago with Windows 10 preinstalled . I'm having serious glitches with updates. First since yesterday I see all the time in the power menu options "Update and restart" and "Update and shoot down", however whenever I hit "Update and restart" it just restarts without any update being installed and the same option "update and restart"/"update and shoot down" appears again. The second glitch is pertaining to update schedule. I change the update option from automatic to "notify me" and changed time scheduled at convenient time, however whenever I restart my computer the scheduled restart time jumps back to 3 AM "tomorrow". Thus actually when I'm leaving my computer to download something overnight it is going to restart by itself. What should I do?

I have a problem with my 64mb geforce 4 mx 440 agp 8x.

When i play a game i notice the shadows and decals glitch in specific games, like if you move, part of it will dissapear and reappear. most of the time the shadows just flicker and look cross hatched and square. Are there any drivers that can fix this? I've already upgraded my geforce drivers to the latest version but it still does it. thx

A:Shadow Glitches

Could it be DirectX? That seems strange. Did you completely uninstall the old drivers before applying the new ones?

A:Can you check my HJT log for any Glitches/

Hi, Your'e using a very outdated version of Hijackthis- it's at v. 1.991 now.

Discard that old one. This one is a self-installer that puts it right into Progam Files.

go to Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in Notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
