I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Prior to resetiing? You mean you used the options to restore to factory condition? Then you almost certainly just need to re-install the driver for the blue-tooth device. Read the manual, or the website support for the laptop, where you will also find the necessary driver if you cant find it on the HDD or CD's that came with the PC

I just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings.

It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen.

Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password.

It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just forgatten that I did that but I doubt it.

Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?

Hello, I have a HP Envy x2, which I purchased refurbished with Windows 8 pre-installed. After I upgraded to Windows 8.1, I starter to notice many problems such as; the tablet wouldn't start all the time, the secure boot was disabled (but I fixed that), the app store doesn't work all the time, and Windows Update can't check for updates. The HP did not come with a recovery thumb drive or DVD. And I need "recovery media" to be able to refresh/reset my PC. I have tried multiple times to create a recovery drive, but my "Key" for Windows 8.1 is not valid and I do not know where my Windows 8 "Key" is. (By the way, I really don't know very much about Windows at all. Windows 8 is my first version of Windows.)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you have the recovery CDs or XP disks run the install will format and reinstall to the factory setting. If you do not have the Dell CD you should order them while you can.

Hi,. I have an HP Envy Phoenix with 1 Tb hard drive....64 bit.

It was originally a Windows 7 computer that I upgraded to Windows 10. I decided to do a factory reset and set it to start Friday night andwhenI looked at it Saturday it was still going.....12 hours. I restarted the computer and it started up with the HP symbol and a turning circle.....then HP symbol goes away but the spinning circle remains.

I got on the phone with HPsupport and he tried a few things that didn't work.....computer goes to HP as soon as the box gets here.

Any suggestions....I hate to be without my computer.

.thanks

A:Reset to factory settings

Hi, assuming Win 10 was working for you, is there any reason, functionally, that you would wish to return to Win 7?
(I could quite understand if you had some..!)

Bear in mind that once you have upgraded to Win 10 on a PC, you can clean install Win 10 at any time you like.
If so, if you haven't already got it, you can download Win 10 and create bootable USB drive or DVD, and use that to install Win 10.

I would, however, check your disk before doing anything significant.

Having a bootable medium is useful for recovery purposes.

is there any way to uncover old files, that were removed during factory restore?
or undo the whole process?

A:Can not reset to factory settings on my asus eee netbook 901

The factory reset key must be pressed and held down as soon as you turn the netbook on. If you press it too late it won't work. Some BIOS features such as the 'Boot Booster' apply only to certain models in the 901 range.

Hi,

I reset my PC to factory settings today, by cleaning out the files through the update and recovery option.

The problem I have is that it created a couple of partitions on the hardrive. I don't want to loose access to that space. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks

I have a lenovo u400 laptop and i am currently running on safe mode with networking as its the only way i can use my laptop. I have gotten the bsod a few times in the past year but it would only be every few months so i wasnt worried about it. yesterdya i got it while on youtube and my laptop was running hot. startup repair and system restore did not help. neither did resetting to factory settings. when i reset to factory settings it worked for a few hours and then i got the bsod again. i followed the steps running the DM log collector and attached the compressed folder to this thread post.

please help as i am on break and need my laptop for the new semester

i also have attached a "dump file" i downloaded blue screen view and it gave me the codes and whatnot if that would help

Hello,
I have a Fujitsu Siemens notebook with Windows XP Home Edition, and I was wondering if anyone of you could tell me how I should do a system reset to the factory settings.
I don't have any recovery CD's or so, but I did save everything important on the notebook, so I wouldn't mind if I'd 'lose' everything on it.

My parents also want to perform a system reset on their notebook (they also don't have any recovery CD's, but saved all the important files). They have a Toshiba with Windows Vista.

Thanks in advance (and sorry if my English is bad).

A:System Reset/Recovery to factory settings

If you tell us the models of these systems, then someone can look up how they are set up.

If CDs are needed to restore/recover...well, I don't think there's any advice that would be useful other than to try to obtain said CDs (or buy a version of XP).

There is no set policy that I can see that determines how these systems are set up. Some have recovery CDs alone..some need recovery CDs and a restore/recovery partition...some employ just a recovery partition. With some vendors, it varies by model.

A:Cannot Reset my Windows 8.1 Computer to Factory Settings

Hello, and Welcome

The problem is when a person updates 8 to 8.1 through the store, you lose the ability to do a factory reset or refresh.

http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1183043-caution-you-may-lose-resetrefresh-if-you-upgrade-to-windows-81/

There is a work-around on the above link.

Another option:
Get the windows key using produkey. The key is embedded in the BIOS of all OEM windows 8 computers. Go here to download the 8.1 media iso and you can install Windows 8.1 or try the workaround in the above link.

Backup any important data first.

A:Factory reset to default programs/settings/OS on L...

Hi,

Absent user-made recovery media the only way to get back to factory state is to order media from support.  Phone # below.

You can get pretty close if you can beg or borrow Microsoft Win 7 install media and follow that with ThinkVantage System Update.  TVSU will download and install the drivers and apps appropriate to your machine.  You won't have an on-disk recovery partition and may lack a few 3rd-party licensed apps (media players maybe).

I have had a few problems and followed ACER advice as the laptop is still under warranty. They advised to conduct a complete PC backup then restore the PC to factiry setings. I backed up the image on D Drive (a partition) and and external hard drive.
When I went to restore the image it doesn't recognise it. I can find both images when I search. I have been through the forums and the advice seems to be to load the last disk first when looking to reload the image, however if it is on a hard drive I can't do this.
All advice and instructions seem to assume the files will be found.
I have wasted a day trying to hunt this down. Is there anyone who has a simple solution?

Hello!

So I did some searching for a way to fix this problem but I believe that my problem is different than the Bluetooth Peripheral Device problem that most people have.

I am NOT trying to connect a cell phone to my laptop. I am not trying to connect anything I don't think (unless my bluetooth mouse counts?).

I have no idea what a Bluetooth Peripheral Device is. I took some screenshots of the messages I receive every time a wake my computer up or turn it on. (1st, smaller picture)

It tries to update a driver but always fails and gives me this. (2nd, larger picture)

The suggestion my laptop gives me is this

There may be an easy solution to this, but I feel really lost right now.

Thanks in advance!

Hi. Last night my router automatically reset itself to the factory settings. Is it still secure? How can i create a unique password like i did upon initial set up. Right now it is just Cisco + (last 5 digits of the serial number) and the password is well "password". I figure anyone with any knowledge who was looking for a available wireless network to use could hack into it, or worse yet do something illegal in which case i guess the IP address would show as coming from my home.

It is a linksys E3000

How can i make it secure again?

Thank you

I have a Compaq Presario C700 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.
It is an Intel dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46 GHz
There is 1 GB RAM

Some time back it began to run very slowly.
After trying various things (virus and malware scans, check disc, defragmenting and disk clean-up included) I decided to reset to factory settings.
Things are still as slow as ever though.

I would very much appreciate any help before I decide to give up and get a new laptop.

Thanks.

A:Incredibly slow laptop even after reset to factory settings.

FWIW:  1GB of RAM...isn't very much for a system that has OEM-installed overhead and also has applications installed which may tax the capabilities of the system.  There are other factors which may contribute to system slowness.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

Guess it depends on what you mean by "administrator part." If you mean that you lost your BIOS password you're pretty much out of luck. But since you mention your "guest account" I'm guessing that you mean you can boot Windows. So, boot to the Recovery partition or to your Recovery DVDs or CDs to do the "recover/reset/restore to factory defaults." You can find specifics on how to do so on the PC manufacturer's web site and/or in documentation you got with it.

What problems are you having? You could certainly do a Factory reset by following the instructions here, https://support.toshiba.com/support... but keep in mind that would delete any of your data or programs you have installed since you got the laptop. So, you'd want to make sure you backup all your data/files before you go through the reset process.message edited by beachyhbt

Hello, I need help with my Lenovo Y500 in which I bought about a year ago. My OS is Windows 10 and I decided to do a factory reset to wipe out my drive. While I selected that, it brought me to a black screen, so After a couple of minutes I turned it off and back on. After that, it just shows the Lenovo logo over and over and it won't stop. I tried F2 BIOS stuff and I keep getting no bootable device, and the two boot options are EFI Network 0 for IPv4 and IPv6. No other options work, and I'm sorry I'm not good with computers. I want to find a home fix because I currently don't have money to take it to the repair shop. I have attatched a photo here on my laptops information. Thank you guys so much!

A:Reinstall OS on Acer Aspire 5738z Win 7 or reset to factory settings?

If I understood correctly you have an OEM version of Windows 7, and I doubt those iso files will match your product key. However the best way in my opinion is to use the built in recovery manager of Acer, where you create the necessary installation dvds and then perform a clean install. It should take 3-5 dvds to burn them, and you will lose all your data that already exists on the hard drive. Make a backup copy of all your files before proceeding with installation, in this way you will get a fresh drive.
Its a pretty straight forward process and it will install the correct version of your Windows, along with other softwares that came when you purchased it. You have to update the Windows as they are not included in those burned dvds.

Hi.

I need to reset my Gateway Desktop PC's Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits installation to factory settings using the restore utility from the Desktop PC boot, my problem is that I have Ubuntu 11.10 too on dual-boot so I'm not sure what should I take into consideration.

There are two options: overwrite the OS installation or, format C: an do a clean installation. My biggest concern is that since I have dual boot the first loader that... loads, is the Ubuntu's one and I'm not sure if that is going to interfere with the installation.

Here's a similar thread: Vista - Need to restore Gateway to Factory Settings

A:How to reset Win7 to factory settings with Ubuntu dual-boot

Keep in mind that running the Factory preinstall is not optimal due to the often heavy load of OEM sponsors' bloatware and useless factory utilities which have better versions built into Win7. So I would consider doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to the Win7 partition, then following these steps to Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7 which cause the least problems by limiting GRUB to the Linux partition.

Make your Recovery disks anyway so you have a path back to factory condition if you decide to sell the PC or ship it back under warranty. If you do decide to run Recovery I would do it from it's partition at boot, then use the disks only as a backup against failure. If you decide to Clean Reinstall, make the disks so you can delete the Recov partition and recover its space.

If you run Recovery and it doesn't offer an option to save an existing partition then Ubuntu will be wiped and you'll need to add it back. Best is to add it on another HD booted only via the BIOS boot order or one-time Boot menu.

A:Need to reset my old Compaq Presario Desktop MV540 to factory settings

Hi and Welcome,
It sounds as if it's the BIOS p/w that's been re-set in which case this may not work. But ... if you can boot from a CD why not try and install Ubuntu? A free & legal Linux operating system? It would make the machine usable.

How to install http://seogadget.co.uk/the-ubuntu-installation-guide/ version has changed, but method the same.

Hope this is some help?

My computer is suppose to have a Bluetooth Device manager in the control panel. I have looked for it, but I have found nothing. Dell and Microsoft both say it should be on there, but Dell won't help me, they say it will cost me. Can you please help me. I did have some nasy viruses infected my computer a while back, and I have had to reinstall alot. I know that it use to be on my computer, but now it is gone.

A:Bluetooth Device not found

Hi

First off stop panicking, if it was there before then odds on it will still be there somewhere, take a deep breath and check the following,

Go into the BIOS and check that the Bluetooth function is enabled, to enter the BIOS look at the start up screen as your PC comes to life for a message such as "press ... to enter BIOS/Setup.

Go to dells website here, put in your service tag and check for any drivers related to Bluetooth, if there is any download them and install them, but check the above first, there is no point installing a driver if the device is disabled.

Post back and let us know, oh and the model of the laptop is a good idea.

Regards

I have a DELL INSPIRON 1520 LAPTOP....i bought it with VISTA...then after a year i upgraded to windows 7. Its been so annoying when it comes to devices.

Now i have problems with my integrated bluetooth. i downloaded a driver from dell, but it wouldnt continue with the instalation because it cant find my bluetooth! I know i have it, it appeared on control panel when i had vista.....now i want to install a bluetooth mouse and it wont let me.

How do i turn on my bluetooth? or how do i activate it?
thanks

A:No bluetooth device was found!!

Is the driver is made for Windows 7 and Have you right clicked on the driver file and ran it as an administrator? I would try that first.

If that doesn't work, go to device manager and see how many devices there are with no driver for them, they should be called "unidentified devices" or something similar.

Then try Windows updates if you have not yet, and get it fully updated.

I'll come back to see how it's going.

Don't have that phone, but just as a stab...

Does that phone have a place for you to enable devices?

Enable the PC connection instead of the headset, something along those lines?

Hi, i have bought a new pc & wish to give my old one to my daughter. It is a dell xps 420. I am attempting to reset it to factory settings without sucess. I press f8 on booting, i select repair computer & i get a screen icon saying "other user". When i try to log in with my name & passw. the msg. reads "cannot find domain or link". I have reset my passw., i have checked via f2 to confirm that the admin & system passw feature is diasbled. I can access the the "d" partition, select tools,PCrestore, be warned that my disk will be formatted & i will lose all my data. When i select next the msg. tells me i cannot do this. I was the first one to log onto this computer when it was purchased from dell. I am using Vista Home Premium.

A:Vista Factory Reset

Dave,
I have an XPS420, you Daughter is lucky, its a nice computer. Well that being said, on boot continually hit f8. Do it rapidly and repeatedly.
If that does not work, Dell sent a restore DVD with the computer, use that.
F8 might not work, if you installed another OS, after purchase. I bought mine with Vista. I now have Seven, self installed.

I have been trying to solve this since I got W7. I've been hoping that Microsoft would resolve the issue via automatic updates, and it seems thousands of people are having the same problem. My cell phone's bluetooth pairing is incomplete: Under the hardware tab of the device's properties window: Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link is recognized. Standard Serial over Bluetooth Link (COM4) is recognized. However, there are two (2) "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" which are unrecognized. I did try a solution where someone suggested I manually install two generic COM ports, which "looked" like it worked. The ! was removed from the device and it "appeared" to be fully paired, but I still could not browse my phone or transfer files back and forth from it. Can someone help me, please?! My phone is an LG VX836V02.
Thanks,
