Preferred Solution: Windows apps opening and closing extremely slowly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi wacky60 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of problems in the log. It is quite clean. having a program take 5 seconds to shut down is not uncommon. I have many programs which take that long or longer. It just depends on what resources the program has to release and what cleanup it has to do at the time of shutdown. There are a couple of housekeeping items we can fix so let's do that.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.htmlO2 - BHO: netMonior Class - {85810C93-C14C-11D5-BC4B-0050BA28E4FE} - blank (file missing)O3 - Toolbar: 1toolbar - {2184469F-67DA-49CB-BF3C-9CAB5974A280} - C:\PROGRA~1\1toolbar\1toolbar.dllNow close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):c:\program files\toolbar\ <--folderOk, reboot the machine and you should be good to go.Cheers.OT

Hello I need some assistance I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop that runs Vista Home Edition Whenver I boot up and try to open a program or application it takes a really REALLY long time for it to open For example whenever I try to open Firefox or Internet Explorer or even my control panel the window will open and will be blank Then it will start to load but either take an enormous amount of time or after I've become tired of waiting I'll try to exit and it will say response apps slow EXTREMELY opening/closing times when programs and Not Responding Now eventually this goes away and the window does close but like I said it takes a ton of time trying to open and close these things up If I do wait it out and I do get into my Internet Explorer EXTREMELY slow response times when opening/closing apps and programs or Mozilla any links that I click or addresses that I type it again takes forever I've run a deep system scan with my Anti-Virus software and came up with nothing I did a system restore to a point where the problem was not happening and again nothing Any suggestions

Now eventually this goes away and the window does close, but like I said, it takes a ton of time trying to open and close these things up. If I do wait it out and I do get into my Internet Explorer or Mozilla, any links that I click or addresses that I type, it again, takes forever.

I've run a deep system scan with my Anti-Virus software and came up with nothing. I did a system restore to a point where the problem was not happening and, again, nothing.

Any suggestions?!

I have a Dell XPS 8300 Intel Core i7-2600 @3.40GHz, 8GB Ram running Win 7 Pro 64-bit desktop. I had a spinning drive and opening Windows Update, iTunes and other programs took over three minutes to open. Ok, so I thought I put a SSD in it I would be better. I installed a Samsung 840 series SSD with a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64-bit and I am having the same problem. Opening Chrome, Firefox and IE work great but not Windows Update or iTunes. System File Checker (sfc /scannow) found no problems. I've tried automatically mange paging file size and system managed (8096-12140), adjusted visual effects for best performance. These changes didn't help.

I have 400 songs in iTunes

Any suggestions on making my programs to open quicker is appreciated.

Recently, when I close out of a program there is quite a bit of delay in closing and it looks like one is pulling the blind down as it closes slowly. My CPU does not seem to be running high and I seem to have plenty of ram. I have run my ad-ware, spyware, and norton anti-virus and find no proelem. Any idea how to fix this? I have rebooted a bouple of times also.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hello guys,

Recently the windows store stopped working for me, well I say recently but I hadn't used it in a long time till recently so I don't know for how long it has actually been out of commission.

When I try to open it it will flash for a second before quickly closing. Searching the internet for solutions has shown me that this is a known issue.

So far I've tried a large number of things to try and fix it:

-Tried Windows Powershell
-Tried Win store Troubleshooter
-Tried making a new Microsoft account
-Tried using a local account
-Tried clearing the store cache and deleting its folders
-Tried messing around in regedit thinking it may be a permission issue
-Tried Win store reset
-Tried disabling firewall + antivirus and trying powershell + reset
-Tried a clean install of Windows 10

Nothings worked so far, so any new solutions would be greatly appreciated

Cheers.

hi new to the site anyway running into problems with my computer typing this on the other computer at the moment it's been down for some time now - the system registry is corrupt and booting slowly Windows extremely i tried fixing it through Recovery Console to no avail - and now i'm currently running it via Windows booting extremely slowly a portable version of Ubuntu i put on my USB stick i was planning to buy Windows this weekend and run a fresh install to fix the computer Windows booting extremely slowly however today morning there was some problems normally when i boot up the computer i get a screen reading DELL with a loading bar that loads in only a few seconds i press f at this screen to access the Boot Menu to load Ubuntu if i don't press f it loads to the Windows loading screen with the blue loading bars that usually takes about half a minute to load i am then taken to the welcome screen for me to log in all in all it usually only takes a minute to reach the welcome screen when my computer was working that is - now that Windows is down it will give me an error just prior to the welcome screen and then automatically reboot however this morning when i turned it on it appeared to take a very long time to boot it took a minute to get past the DELL screen alone then another half a minute to get to the Windows Screen and a further one or two minutes for Windows to finish loading i tried rebooting a few times but the same thing happened even when i try pressing f to take me to the Boot Menu it takes half a minute to load when it took a few seconds just yesterday as of now Ubuntu isn't even loading at all either i really have no idea why the sudden decrease in speed while booting - and why it's exceedingly slow before i even boot into an OS in fact i'm not even sure i'll be able to use the Windows disk properly at this rate any help or insight into the matter would be appreciated thanks

A:Windows booting extremely slowly

I'd run some disk diagnostics to make sure the drive isn't having issues. Often if a file resides in or near a bad spot, the disk will read for as long as it takes to get the data it's looking for, if it can get it at all. When I hear of very slowly booting computers, especially in the initial stages of the boot process, I usually suspect the HD.

A:bizarre: windows xp running *extremely* slowly

Well the first thing I would do would be to clear the cmos.

Then I'd be checking to see what the temp of the CPU is running at in the bios, if indeed it has that option.

I was directed to move this discussion, below, from the Hijackthis-log forum to this forum.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...mely-slow.html

The basic issue is that my system is running excruciatingly slowly. In safe mode, though, it runs fine. I have tried the suggestions that I have received in the hijackthis forum over the last three weeks, but to no avail.

I can copy content from the hijackthis forum here, if necessary.

Any idea as how to proceed from here?

Thanks,
Bob

A:Windows XP and Programs Running Extremely Slowly - especially iTunes

I've never had any problems with iTunes, but have had machines slow down when they've become cluttered with superfluous junk: remnants of "uninstalled" apps, internet temp files, cache, history, too many background apps running, and the like.

iTunes may be your problem, but I'd bet on a machine that that just needs to be cleaned up a bit. CCleaner might make the job easier for you.

I use the system apps Mail, Calendar, and Groove Music. Since I first starting using Windows 10 many months ago, these apps keep closing without any indication of why. They close when during active sessions and on awakening they're usually closed. Groove Music will close at times while I'm listening to music. Why is this happening? I kept thinking that system updates would eventually resolve the issue, but they haven't, despite many updates.

Hello I've been running Windows for a year now with no problems but a few days ago my laptop froze and the only way to turn it off with cursor extremely slowly/Black running movable Windows 7 screen was to hold down the power button When I turned it back on it began to run extremely slowly The Windows logo appears as normal but hangs around for a long time before it cuts to a black screen with nothing but the cursor Then if I wait about half an hour Windows 7 running extremely slowly/Black screen with movable cursor the login screen appears but again it takes a long time for the computer to process me typing in my password and pressing enter The screen then goes black for a second time again with the movable cursor for another half hour or so before arriving at my desktop Everything seems to be there Microsoft Office etc but it takes minutes for the laptop to process anything I do or open anything I click on The only notable difference to the desktop is the outdated looking Start button I understand this may be a hardware Windows 7 running extremely slowly/Black screen with movable cursor problem but the one thing that makes me think it is something to do with Windows is when it gets to the desktop a message appears in the bottom-right corner saying 'failed to connect to a Windows service' I have started it in safe mode and Windows 7 running extremely slowly/Black screen with movable cursor that made no difference I've had a look on the internet for solutions but can't find anything that is exactly the same problem as mine And as you can probably tell I am not very computer savvy and don't know what to do next If anybody knows what the problem might be then any help would be appreciated If you need any other details then just ask Thanks in advance JBwell

A:Windows 8 Apps closing on their own randomly

Hello there!

The only app I really have issues with is Music Info, great app, but buggy as a bug. It crashes kind of more often than I'd like.

As for other apps, like the Bing apps, I don't have issues with. Sometimes the News app doesn't launch, but that's sometimes.

Odd, and you're using a new PC with Windows 8 preinstalled?

So about a week ago my computer started to take 30+ seconds to open up programs, but only after I start up a big program that takes up resources. I have defraged the computer, uninstalled multiple programs, i still cant seem to figure it out.

Here are my system specifications:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
8gb Ram
AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series

I hope i have put enough information, and posted it all correctly for this to be solved quickly. Thank you in advance for helping me out.

A:Windows 7 Programs opening slowly

The first thing I would try is running Malwarebytes. Then check that your drivers are updated and not reporting any errors using Device Manager. With the hardware specs you have you shouldn't see any performance issue unless something is wrong.

Computer: Windows XP SP3

What is happening: Computer boots up and after loggin in and runs about 20+ command prompts so fast that I cannot even tell what it as attemtping to run.It will eventually give me a desktop. Having problems with consistant access to the internet and the computer is running very slow.

I ran Spybot and it found many errors and claimed to have fixed most of them.

A:Opening and closing command windows

1) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?
2) Have you run full scans with both your anti virus app and MalwareBytes? If not, please do so now
3) Spybot is old school. I'd uninstall it if I were you and use MalwareBytes and / or Super AntiSpyware instead.

A:Windows Opening and Closing in Slow Motion

To me this sounds like a possible lack of enough ram. Even though the system is not acting slowly; the system could still be suffering from lack of enough available ram to run not just windows itself; but background programs and services, etc. so you might want to consider upping the amount of ram you have to at least 8gb. Especially if its for gaming use; you want to have more than enough for gaming rather than not enough at all.

So I turn on my computer this morning and I don't know what is wrong, don't know if it is malware or a virus or what.

Microsoft Outlook keeps randomly opening every 5-10 min. Every now and then a window I have open will just randomly closed. I've noticed CAPS lock keeps randomly turning on and off as well.

I have run a full scan of both NOD32 Anti-Virus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware both in regular Windows and in Safe Mode. Neither program found anything at all both scans.

I don't understand wtf is going on? I've looked in my running processes and nothing suspicious is running, at least nothing that I think is very suspicious.

Help!

A:Virus? Malware? Outlook keeps opening, windows closing, etc.

Also, windows keep randomly minimizing, other keys keep randomly being hit such as the ESC key, etc.

Also what I found odd is it seems to happen most frequently when I'm doing stuff on my computer, especially playing games. When I just have my computer sitting there idling, it hardly ever does it, if it does at all.

It's so damn annoying... should I run HJT?9

Does Word open if you double click the WINWORD file?Apart from Outlook are any other apps not opening?Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Hi All,

This morning I had an issue with Start and Action Center not working. After some searching I ran a Powershell command which fixed the immediate problem, but now I find that I have an additional issue. There are a number of Apps which will not open (see attached jpg.)

I am also getting notifications in Event Viewer (Events 1000 and 5973 mainly).

I have run sfc /scannow several times to no avail, and restarted several times as well.

Suggestions would be welcome, thanks.

Rob.

Hey there, for some reason Reader, Adobe Touch, IM+ and free books apps are not working recently. Last week these worked. Basically they show splash screen and hang there for sometime and then go back to start screen. Also no PDF metro programs are doing the same. It started happening after installing latest win 8 updates.

Please help me here. Getting really troubled.

Hey, please anyone help me. Recently when I was working on my PC, there was a power cut and my PC shutted down unexpectedly. I have again booted the PC and saw that no windows applications which are on the start menu including the PC settings, windows store are not opening. When I click on them they are just flashing on the screen and remaining on the. Why is this happening? What shall I do to bring my PC to a normal state?

A:Windows apps are not opening

Sounds like windows is corrupted from the unexpected shutdown. Try a system restore from a early time. See if this fixes your problem. If not you have to do a factory reinstall .

My computer is running extremely slowly--to the point that when I downloaded the newest update on Norton Antivirus and started a scan, in 75 minutes it has only scanned 33 files (!). The CPU is consistently at 99% or 100%. The main items taking up the CPU are windows explorer (between 55%-70%) and dadtray.exe (20%-35%). According to windows task manager, there are no other applications running besides the scan and mozilla (which is 3-5%). Dadtray is apparently a necessary dell component for internet usage. So what's going on? What can I delete? How can I even check for viruses?

Hi I just recently built a computer for the first time and everything is working fine apart from one thing Some USB devices are going extremely slowly such as my USB flash drive Navigating through the drive is very sluggish and it takes AGES to copy files from the flash drive onto my hard drive It takes around a minute to copy a mb file I know it has nothing to do with the flash drive because it works extremely devices slowly going USB perfectly on other computers Also to get my computer to detect this device I need to plug it in and restart my computer it's the same for most USB devices apart from mouse and keyboard Something else I found interesting is that if I plug my flash drive into one of my G keyboard's usb ports it works fine I have a WG USB card which I use to connect to the internet wirelessly but when I plug it into one of the USB ports it takes FOREVER to install the drivers and when it finally does the internet goes extremely slowly and cuts out all the time And it requires more power than the G offers so I can't insert it there Something else strange is that when the WG drivers finally install and I try restarting the computer it doesn't work and gives me the USB devices going extremely slowly option to start windows normally or to start it using the most recent configuration that worked If I try starting it normally then it doesn't work so I have to choose the second option And then it reverts back to before I installed the WG drivers So does anyone know what's causing my USB devices to go so slowly My PC just incase it's relevant Windows XP Home SP Gigabyte ex -ud r i gb ram gb ATI Thanks in advance

A:USB devices going extremely slowly

Since you recently built it, confirm that in Bios you have USB2 Controller enabled, High Speed enabled and Legacy USB enabled (or whatever your mobo has for those, if it has them).

Hello,

Ive had Windows 8 for several months and not had too many issues.  Just noticed recently that some of the apps, like Mail, Calendar, People aren't loading when you click on them.  If you click on Mail, nothing happens, if you click on Store, it looks like it's going to load but then redirects you back to the apps screen.  Some of the apps work fine though like Skype.

I keep seeing info that having 3rd party anti-virus software might be the issue but I only have used Windows Defender since my McAfee subscription that came with the Dell Inspiron ran out.  I didn't have any issues with the apps while McAfee was enabled.

I don't use most of the apps, but I do use Mail and it's most just annoying that it's not working.  Help would be appreciated.

A:Apps aren't opening in Windows 8

Info and you could try the apps troubleshooter:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/what-troubleshoot-problems-app

I used Thunderbird for an email client, did not want to bother with MS accounts.

It may not be a good idea to rely on Win Defender, just my opinion;  I installed Avast, when I was testing Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit and it worked fine.

A:Computer - especially IE running extremely slowly

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

Download Host.zip
Extract the file & overwrite the existing copy located at C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Now open Ewido and do a scan on your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
o If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
o Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'
o If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now as the action.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Note: There is no need to purchase Ewido. It will remain as the freeware version after the trial period, which means the guard process will no longer work, but the scanner will be just as effective.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winshost.exe] C:\WINNT\system32\winshost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [firewall_anti] C:\WINNT\firewall_anti.exe

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINNT\firewall_anti.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\winshost.exe

Restart in normal mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan - requires Internet Explorer
Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
Click On 'Scan Now'
Enter your e-mail address & click 'Scan Now' ...beg... Read more

After clicking on an app, the loading screen appears for about a second, and then it goes back to the (metro) menu.

Is there any suggestions to fix it?

I use multiple monitors. Let's say for example I have Netflix open on my 2nd monitor, and my web browser open on my main monitor.

If I open another browser window on my main monitor, the Netflix app on my second monitor will minimize for no reason.
I've searched Google for hours, but haven't found a fix yet, has anyone else experienced this, and fixed it?

Do you have your computer configured properly for a multiple monitor setup?

I tried to restore the system by system restore point but I couldn't

an error occurs and it tells me that the the system couldn't be restored to the point I wanted

Also I just want to add that there's a problem that I have just found which is the Hp simplepass software is not working too

whenever I open it, it crash's immediately too

and I get this message when I open the photoshop from the search bar on the right

however I used to open it that way and it worked but not anymore and the same for the metro apps, it used to work with me before feb 5th

any suggestions to get over this issue?

I was using my computer regularily the night before. When I woke up the next morning, I couldn't get my computer to boot, and it took over a minute to get into safe mode. After many restarts, I finnally got my computer to boot, however it took almost a full minute more that it normally does. Finally, when I get it to boot, i'm having problems playing back video and using the computer, it's freezing up on me. One time, when I was starting a video, I got a bad_pool_header blue screen of death. I don't understand how this could have happended... Anybody have any ideas?

Hi I hope this is the right place to post If not I apologise let me know and I'll move it to where it should be Thanks Basically I'm having major problems with my computer of slowly! runs Computer extremely Virus? late and the troubles all started a few weeks ago when I got a virus I don't know much about getting rid of viruses but I had quarantined certain files Virus? Computer runs extremely slowly! with AVG and deleted other things I found I still got blue screen from time to time and often when I used my computer it would become choppy and the sound would become distorted It would get worse and worse till my computer crashed but as long as I restarted in time it was fine I posted in another forum here for BSOD and was given some helpful advice I thought things were over with that problem However although I no longer get BSOD things are worse and I'm not sure if it's the virus or just me messing up my poor computer with stupidity I cleaned it out the other day with spyware doctor and a program called regcure both found traces of viruses It was fine but then last night when I turned on the computer it made about or quot hardware error quot noises but no error came up It's made those noises before and only once have I seen an error message which I forgot to write down but now when the error sound plays the computer gets slower and slower till I can barely move my mouse and have to wait every few seconds to try and move it It took me ages just to get to this website The hard drive though very quiet sometimes sounds like it's working away consistently and I certainly can't watch videos or do much of anything really Any help with this would be so much appreciated Thank you

When I right click on the desktop to refresh it, my system hangs and the right click menu pops up not before a minute.

This slow response has come up after I installed Xteq Systems X-Setup (http://www.xteq.com) Version 6.3 and thereafter everything on my system now is responding very slowly.
Even the System Restore is unable to restore my system to a restore point created earlier.

Please help to restore and boost my system's original speed.

Hello I recently moved to a new apartment and had Comcast Internet set up This was a few weeks ago Since day I've been having troubles loading web pages With regularity my connection speed would seem to slow to a crawl and pages would either load very slowly or not at all Most times but now always No no connection error will pop up on chrome the pages just perpetually load Then other times things will load just time It's about At first I assumed this was just horrible Comcast connection speeds but I noticed that my laptop on ONLY not slowly Web at pages my or all extremely load phone would load things fine Web pages load extremely slowly or not at all ONLY on my laptop on WiFi alone even when my laptop was having trouble My roommates have also had no problems on their laptops In fact my temporary solution to this problem Web pages load extremely slowly or not at all ONLY on my laptop has been to tether my phones WiFi connection through my laptop whenever I'm having problems and this has worked always So the problem seems to be rooted to my laptop The sporadic nature of the issues has made it tough to troubleshoot but I've learned that when the issue appears I cannot ping any websites the issue happens across all browsers The built-in windows network troubleshooter detects no issues I am running Windows on my HP Envy m sleekbook I should also note that I've recently had an issue in the dealt with in the Am I infected what do I do forum here and in doing so ran several malware scanners removal programs all which came back clean by the end so I do not believe it is a virus issue What to do

Hello,
This issue has been happening for 2 days. I have Windows 8.1 in an Asus G46V and it has worked smoothly since I bought it.
My anti-virus is Norton 360.
When I logged into my computer, I got an error message saying that I could use the computer because I was administrator or something like that. It was the first time I had seen that in my life. I ignored it and I tried to launch Chrome. It took around 4 minutes to start, normally it takes 5 seconds. I didn't know what it was, so I looked at event viewer and I saw I had several errors of Service Control Manager, event ID 7000. Maybe it was related, I don't know. So far I have reinstalled Chrome and re-started my PC with no success.

A:Windows 8 Metro apps not opening links if browser open.

So this is the second time I've posted in EightForums and gotten no reply after quite a while...

So I'll share what I found and the "fix." I have my PC set to run all applications as admin by default. Apparently, for whatever reason, if you run your browser as admin, Metro apps don't appear to be able to open new tabs automatically, although it switches to the browser window to indicate the request is at least sent. I switched Chrome to run normally and it's working fine now.

Hey,

This began in the afternoon today where I noticed a sudden decrease in speed of my internet browsing. Since then, nearly every webpage that I try to open takes ages to load as opposed to the mere seconds that it took before. I am currently connected through ethernet to my modem, but the problem persists on all devices and laptops connected through wifi as well.

I've tried resetting the router and modem, as well as changing DNS servers but nothing seems to be working.

My ping to google is normal as follows:

My internet is also fine when I tried loading into online game servers (cs:go, etc.), so it is just the browsing mainly.

I do not know what to do with it currently and have been searching the forum for quite a bit now. Any help would be appreciated

A:Webpages loading extremely slowly but internet connection is fast

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Do you have multiple browsers installed on the system? If Yes, do both show signs of slowness?

I went to my computer today, and it froze up. On attempt to open task manager, I got the blue screen and shut it down. When I started it up again, it took close to 45 minutes to an hour for it to start up fully. Explorer.exe brought up error messages constantly, then I also got a few from adobe, WerFault, and several AVG messages. Its finally up and running, and I was able to access the internet. I'm currently running a malware scan, but I doubt it will fix very much. I'm literally afraid to restart my computer again.

Ideas?
Thanks.

A:Extremely slow startup, explorer.exe running slowly and crashing

Yes, first as you state don't shut it down. Leaving it run won't hurt it, just shut off your monitor when you are finished for the evening.

Second, have you done any recent updating of drivers, etc.? If I read you correctly this is the first time this has happened, right?

How to find and post your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip; if you only have one or two you don?t need to zip them, just attach as is. Please do us a favor and don?t Zip each one individually.

This is a problem on a Windows XP SP2 system with 1GB RAM and plenty of disk space. OS seems to run fine.

In any application (most seen in Word) it takes several minutes from clicking an action, for example, Print, or Resize font, or Change font, until anything actually happens. Example, highlight a word, click the drop-down to change the font size, and wait about 50 - 60 seconds for the drop-down list to appear. After first time, things work OK, except for printing which still takes over one minute before a document will print.

Have also tested this in Winword and Notepad, with same results, so it's not an Office applications problem.

All help appreciated

I bought a new PC tonight, with a SATA drive that I've installed Windows on and an IDE drive. The IDE drive showed up during the Windows install, with both partitions appearing, and I can see them in My Computer. However, I can't access anything on the drives, instead I get an error message with something about an I/O device error. Booting takes around 10 minutes but when I unplug the drive I can boot in roughly 30 seconds.

Desperate for help, please guys. >_<

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.  It seems that you were betrayed by scammers.  Add-/remove programmsClick on start-->control panel.Vista/7: Open Programs and FeaturesXP: Open add/remove programsSearch for and remove the following programsBomgar Button 13.1.2 [remote.techvedic.com]Close the window.    Scan with aswMBRPlease download aswMBR ( 4.5MB ) to your desktop.Double click the aswMBR.exe icon, and click Run.There will be a short delay before the next dialog box comes up. It is an actual backup of the MBR (master boot record).

Did you just uninstall McAfee recently? Did it happen around this time when you noticed the major slowdown? Go to your Add/Remove Programs panel and confirm that all your McAfee security related programs are uninstalled.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop McDetect.exe
sc delete McDetect.exe
sc stop McTskshd.exe
sc delete McTskshd.exe
sc stop mcupdmgr.exe
sc delete mcupdmgr.exe
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Delete this folder:

c:\program files\mcafee.com\

Restart and see if there's any improvement.

I would try these if I was having your problems and I have put them in the most logical order, so take your time and read each tutorial before you begin and backup all personal files first
Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer;
Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
Click Properties, and then click Tools.
Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Mate, you mentioned Registry Booster! You've located the problem. As far as I can tell, 95% of people on this forum recommend never using any registry 'booster' (apart from ccleaner), and the number one reason is because it makes a system unstable, and the second is like it: it doesn't actually provide any tangible benefit.

I recommend a system Refresh or a system reset, and failing that, a complete reinstallation.

No defragmenter, reg editor, optimizer, etc. should ever be installed. Upgraded Windows OS's also have SAFE upgraded built-in tools to do the same things as the other guys' stuff (like optimize drives). See Optimize Performance for better speeds.

These are my recommendations, hope they are helpful to you! I really think the only fix for you would be in the tutorials I've suggested (System refresh, and how to optimize performance). Good luck in your quest for the solution!

Hello all I don't know if this is intended or not but my Metro apps will only completely close if I use alt f from within the app to close it If I pull the app down from the top with my mouse or Metro closing apps f4 only alt with I go to the switcher right click and click close the only thing that happens is that my Metro apps get removed from the app switcher Metro apps only closing with alt f4 and from the alt tab list Using the task manager I can see that they are still there and still using the same memory that they were before I tried to close them With alt f they disappear from the task manager and I get back the Metro apps only closing with alt f4 memory that they were using Additionally when I close them with pulling down or the switcher when I open them again from the start screen it is as if nothing had happened They still open into whatever state they were in and the splash screen with the app icon doesn't appear again like it would if the app had actually closed and been reopened This definitely seems wrong as all three options to close apps worked in Windows but in Windows only alt f works Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello The Visitor,

It has changed a bit on how to close an app from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. In Windows 8.1, you will now need to wait until the app flips to show it's tile when you drag it down to close it.

Here are some more ways to close apps in Windows 8.1.

Hope this helps,

I don't know how it's possible but it happened Must be WITHOUT Apps??? NO Vista Reboots WAY! Closing some new feature they never advertised but should The other day Vista Ultimate was nagging me to reboot after installing some updates I kept putting it off but finally it wouldn't let me put it off for as long In any event I walked away to get some lunch and when I got back my PC had been rebooted I logged back in NO WAY! Vista Reboots WITHOUT Closing Apps??? and things looked like it was starting up normally But then I see down my taskbar that I have three programs still open I'm like WTF How is this possible They were Outlook an Unsent Saved Draft of an NO WAY! Vista Reboots WITHOUT Closing Apps??? email and another Email which was just open My web browser windows and multiple tabs were all gone though OR WERE THEY I opened IE to begin getting my desktop back in order and get my email tabs all opened up when suddenly I saw that IE had all my tabs in it as soon as it loaded I could not believe this What's REALLY weird and I think is confirmation that something had happened was that I now had tabs in one IE instance whereas before I had two instances of IE cascaded horizontally on my quot widescreen displays each with tabs - one set was for email and one was for forums I frequent But now IE loaded up and I had all of these COMBINED into a single IE instance which btw I'm trying to figure out how to move tabs from one IE instance to another but there doesn't seem to be a way In any event I can not believe it still thus I'm posting this here to see if anyone else has encountered this If you don't believe me even I will try this again go and install some updates not like SP but some basic updates then wait to let it reboot and see what happens Regards Kevin

A:NO WAY! Vista Reboots WITHOUT Closing Apps???

Windows Vista 64 ultimate has done this to me as well. It's kinda of a feature than a problem. It opened up the last programs that were running before the shutdown. But I never had windows update reboot without me telling it to. That's a new one.

Hi

I work on my pc until late at night so have several programs open plus firefox with numerous tabs. I go to bed, the pc goes to sleep, but when i come down in the morning all my programs have closed. All I see is my desktop. No error messages (as pps have mentioned). The pc come out of sleep but its like its restarted itself at some point in the night.

Its rather annoying as I will have all the programs set up ready to start work again in the morning and wont have bookmarked all the browser tabs but everything has disappeared.

It doesnt happen every night.

Thanks.

A:All apps closing down overnight when pc is in sleep.

Do you have Hibernation enabled?

you may want to check the following setting in Power Options. Navigate to Power Options in Control Panel and click your power plan (usually Balanced or Power Saver). Click the Advanced power options link and look for this setting:

If the setting for On Battery is similar to mine here, change it to 0 (never). That should correct it for you.

I am running Windows XP home SP3 on a ASUS A8N32-SLI deluxe MD with 2 GB of RAM. This has been a very sturdy, reliable machine, but for the last six months or so, I have noticed that apps hang while running, or take a long time to launch. The start menu and explorer bar also freeze or run slow intermittently. When this happens, and I get the task manager open, I do not see any excessive use of CPU or memory. I am kind of at a loss. Not sure if it may be a registry issue, looking for a non-existent program, or something else. Suggestions/help are greatly appreciated.

A:multiple apps hang, freeze, system runs slowly

Have you tried a clean startup: How to configure Windows XP to start in a clean boot state?

Check your Event Viewer logs for any re-occurring entries. Use Google/Bing to search for solutions other users may have found or search Microsoft Support for knowledge base articles.

Avoid registry cleaning if at all possible. It can cause more harm than repair to the system.

I often switch back and forth between desktop and metro apps - for example, looking something up on Chrome in desktop mode while messaging someone on my skype metro app. After around 45 seconds in desktop mode, the metro app is closed when I return! This is very frustrating as you can probably guess. Anyone encountered this problem before? How did you solve it?
Thanks!

I open up my Live tiles screen on my 2nd monitor. When I open an app, say facebook. All is fine. When I drag from top of screen to bottom with my mouse to close the app, it goes to desktop. Is there a way for me to go back to the Live tiles screen?

Also, is it possible to have the live tiles screen visible all times on my 2nd monitor. I use Stardocks Start8 BTW if that helps

A:Closing Metro Apps takes me to desktop

Hello gizbug,

If you are using Windows 8.1 now, then:

You could uncheck the When I sign in or close apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start box from step 4 in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below to go to your Start screen.
Desktop or Start - When Sign in or Close apps in Windows 8
You could open the Start screen from the taskbar on your 2nd monitor to have it show until you either open the desktop there or drag and drop a desktop window there.

Hope this helps.

If you have only just upgraded there may be several updates for the metro apps still happening in the background. I would wait a while, try a restart and see if the problem still exists.
