I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi golga, welcome to BC.From the Hijackthis log I don't see any serious malware issues that could be causing the networking problems that you are having. I take it that you believe this is a malware problem as you posted a Hijackthis log; are you having any other problems that might make you think that malware is causing this? Unless there is something new spreading around the internet, I don't think malware would be capable of deleting your entire network connections. Yes malware can break your internet connection but I've never heard of it completely deleting all network connections. A quick note about a couple of entries from the Hijackthis log. Firstly, I see you have Viewpoint installed.Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2007 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any programs related to Viewpoint if presentI would also remove MyWebSearch, as it is classified as spyware by many.My advice to you would be to post on the networking forum at BC.You will recieve more specialised help there, be sure to note you've had a HJt log checked.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/21/networking/I also find a couple of threads at other internet computer help sites that might be of help:http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum...lder-empty.htmlhttp://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1112722548

I shut down my computer and it had updates to install. the screen showed:
"do not unplug or shutdown while your computer installs updates, Installing 1 of 1"
it stayed like that for a couple hours and I figured their was a problem so I unplugged and removed the battery to restart the computer.
When the computer restarted all of my network connections were lost. i could not connect wireless or hard wired to the internet.
when i went to the network and sharing none of the icons were there.
when i click diagnose and repair the message shows
"windows has confirmed that this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem"
"windows has found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically"

everything was working great the night before and after the failed update my networks dont work. I am assuming it has to do with the failed update.

You can download in safe mode, but run this in normal modeIf you use Spybot S&D's Teatimer function. be sure to disable it for now----------------------------------------------The process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs---------------------------------If mbam won't install or runSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run.

Hi guys
I'm using XP SP2
If I check my network locations it is empty. No idea what's wrong.
My internet is working fine. If I select find computers in workgroups, all computers and shares are available.
I doesn't matter if I turn off the firewall or not
I already have reset my IP Stack so I had to redo all my settings again
But still no luck

I'm out of ideas, anyone?

Hi, I have Spybot SD version 1.6.2.46 last update 1/27/10 and McAfee Antivirus Plus with dat version 5888 running on Windows XP SP3 with all current updates. On 2/11/10 I allowed 9 more Microsoft Security Updates to install and McAfee alerted on a virus during an auto scan. I'm sorry I don't know the exact sequence of events but now I have no internet connectivity, no icons in my network connections, no ability to perform a restore point. I don't know the extent of other possible problems but can someone help please? I am writing this from my laptop using a wireless connection on the same cable modem the home pc is on.
Thanks in advance.

Tried unsuccesfully to create my own network. Gave up and tried to undo my astute computer programming efforts. Before I made and then tried to undo the changes, I was able to send print orders to the printer which is connected to the desktop. I have a router and all other things work ok. .. however..not being able to print from the laptop is frustrating. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I am in the process of recovering a laptop from a recent virus surge and have run into some problems with its connection to the internet. When I open the network connections folder there is no local area connection or wireless network connection options. Additionally, the Network Connections service is hung on Starting.

I went through Microsoft KB 825826: "How to troubleshoot missing network connections icons in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows XP", but did not have any luck. Also ran LSP-Fix utility to repair any potential winsock issues but problem has not yet been resolved.

I have been trying for a while to delete three broadband connections i seem to have made, but not enabled. They are located in the network connections dialog under the broadband heading. On top of this they keep asking me which server to connect to. When I try to delete them, it asks me if i want to send them to the recycle bin, I click yes, and then nothing happens, they don't go anywhere. Any help would be greatful. Thanks.

you may have to install the soft wacd and remove it from there. try it

Yesterday when I put my SD card in my reader I got a message : "USB device not recognized. One USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." After my second new reader got the same message.............I tried to do a "restore" only to keep getting the message "can't restore" for about 5 different restore dates. Everything else works OK on the computer as far as I can tell. I wanted to upload some photos to a digital picture frame and that was when I became aware of this problem. Otherwise I am not sure how long it has been going on. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO UPLOAD TO A READER IN THE PAST.

Thanks,

It is possible your card reader has a corrupted driver, try going to your computer manufacturers website and download the media card reader driver and install it.

Hi,My sons computer has for some reason lost the connection to the mouse and network adaptor both USB,he has been messing about trying to get an eye toy to work unplugging cables etc, anyway i have tried restarting and plugging them in still no joy. The computer has Vista premium on it.Any ideas how i can regain connections.

A:USB connections lost.

Boot with both the devices disconnected.
Power off. Reconnect one device at a time and follow the new hardware found wizard if present - if not it should have reinstalled itself automatically.
Is it possible your son has disabled the devices in the device manager?

Background.
I attempetd to install Spam Fighter. During the installation it asked to be allowed open ports for access to Bayesian database, or something to that effect. Before this I was able to connect onto P2P networks using Limewire and Soulseek etc.
After this attempt, Spam Fighter froze, forcing me to restart my machine. Then, I could not connect to my P2P friends.
After struggling for a week, I ended up reinstalling XP anew, and now I'm not sure how I can "renew" my love affair with P2P connections.
I've had my IP settings set back to what they were before but still cannot connect. Firewall (XP) is disabled, current max concurrent half-open connections set @ 10,000,000.
Anyone with assistance would be appreciated.

Not going to get help here as P2P programs are not supported. I am sure the thread will be closed as well.

I have an XP Pro computer that loses it's connection to the web after a few minutes or less. The icon says I am connected to the LAN but I lose internet access. There are 6 other computers running XP Pro, XP Home and Ubuntu on the LAN and none have this problem. I run winsock fix, reboot, and can connect to the web again. I can't find a reason but it seems more time based then random.
Any thoughts out there? Diagnostics?
Also, I just installed AVG free and it reported another antivirus program on the computer but I can't find any. This computer has had ZoneAlarm and PC-cillin on it in the past but both were uninstalled.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks,
Monton

I am buying a new computer.  Best Buy was trying to get my email connected, they asked me to bring in my compaq (which I intend to keep using for some things) so they could see the settings for my third party provider.  They plugged it in with an ethernet cable at the store.  Now, when I try to go online, it asks for an ethernet cable.  It is using local area connection 2.  I went looking for local area connection 3, the one I normally use, and it is nowhere to be found, it doesn't show up in avabilable connections, I can't find it searching, anywhere.  Best Buy has not responded to an email, how can I get my wireless connection capability back?

I upgraded from IE6 to IE7 by downloading and installing IE7-windowsXP-x86-enu.exe. Obviously IE6 was deleted from my PC. I also downloaded and installed WGAPluginInstall.exe because I use Mozilla Firefox.
With IE7 there was no more icon on the desktop. I could start it from the Start-All Programs list. But I lost all link connections. I could not access anything using the internet, for example payments via my bank, Blockbuster, also links in received e-mails etc etc.
I had to delete IE7 and reinstall IE6.
I wish to use IE7. Could you please advise? Thank you.

A:IE7 link connections lost

Hi Csaba Hunyar and welcome to TSF !

The proper way to update to IE7 is via Windows update. Go to start => windows update and install all the latest critical updates there.

Why do you want to update IE if you're also using firefox ? I only use IE to connect to windows update and I do all the rest with firefox. IE7 brings nothing new except the tabs and plugins features which are already present in firefox.

I am connected to the internet, but there is a red x on my network icon (yet when you hover over it, it says internet access.) I tried to go into the network and sharing > change adapter settings, yet the Network connections folder is COMPLETELY blank.

I tried reinstalling the driver. Initially, I get a message that says "the parameter is incorrect" Although, I tried to do it a second time, it said that the driver is up to date.

I dunno what else to do. I'd like to have access to my LAN connection. I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64.

A:Network Connections Blank - Red X on Network Icon- but Internet works

Well, after 3 hours of trying to find a solution, I immediately found it after creating this thread. Sorry!!!

Anyway, the solution was to open the registry editor, go to: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network" and delete the “Config” value. I restarted my computer, and all was well.

Still wondering: why did this happen in the first place?

I'm preparing a laptop for transfer to someone else and have deleted all my network accounts (wireless) in the Control Panel. But over in the Sys Tray, when I click on the network icon, my two connections are still listed (name and name-guest). How do I delete those? Win 7x64. Thanks,

A:Deleting my own network connections listings (sys tray network icon)

When you click on the network icon in the System Tray, it will always list all of the Available Wireless Networks in the area, including those of your neighbours if their signal is strong enough. However, if you've already deleted your own networks in Control Panel, the computer won't be able to connect to them again until the encryption key is re-entered.

So I have 4 computers connected into a gigabit switch,
If I drop power to the switch, all 4 computers' ethernet connections (obviously) go offline.
When I power the switch back on, I would expect, after a few seconds, that they would pick up their connections again.
One of the machines does this, the other 3 get themselves stuck in a state where they think they're online, but can't access anything on the network, and don't respond to pings.
If I disable/reenable the adapter, then do ipconfig /rel /ren
they start working again.
But I'm scratching my head trying to work out why 1 machine is fine, and 3 aren't. They are the same exact hardware (and cost $US3800 each)
and have the same windows image on them...

??? Also note that they are on DHCP with reservations.

Any ideas would be cool. thanks!

A:Some workstations network connections don't recover after network switch outage

When the switch comes back up, do these machines still have valid IP addresses, or do they switch to 169.x.x.x APIPA addressing? Also, if you hard-code IP address information (rather than rely on DHCP) as a test, do the machines all network properly after the switch drop and re-up?

Greetings.
Updated 2 PC's. After update they can't find anything on LAN except the printer.
My LAN is 2 PC's a WD Live TV -box (linux) and a network-printer.

Before the upgrate it worked fine.

Is there a setting, that I need to change to get LAN working again? The fault is on both PC's, so I guess it is some setting that has changed, but I can't find it.
"Network sharing center" settings is the same as before the update on both PC's.

I'm confused why they at least can't find themself, as they has allways showed up in "Network" in Explorer.

A:After Annivesery update all LAN-connections lost

First try to uninstall the network adapters in Device manager. Then scan for new hardware. If this does not work go to the manufacturer of your network adapters and download drivers. If manufacturer does not have drivers, also try the PC manufacturer. I hope this helps.

A:No network connections, missing or corrupt network adapters...

Could you try to explain exactly what you did to remove to malware? Maybe you changed a setting somewhere without realizing it.

Unfortunately you have not given more relevant information on network security (workgroup or domain), about what you did before it started, network configuration and name resolution configuration.
Personaly I would use network monitor if no imput information helps to resolve this proble, Wireshark will do the trick.

What I want is the most secured pc possible disabling all the network connections except my private network made with hamachi I use it to play games on lan with my friend but when I get malicious tools from internet all my system is f ed up and I need to reinstall windows softwares and all my games one by one -I use the standard windows firewall my computer is xp pro SP -I deleted every web browser I had explorer not completely removed -Our hamachi network is secured with a password only the two of us using it -I plan on freezing my system partition after making all the changes needed deepfreeze So how can I reinforce my pc security without buying an AV that will ruin me What setting should I change in my firewall or is there a better one aviable for but hamachi block all to network connections private network? How not free Is there an alternative to freezing my system since I need to turn it off even for the smallest change Hope you can help me on this nbsp

A:How to block all network connections but not hamachi private network?

From what I've read, you have to allow Hamachi to contact its server in order to login.

Apart from that, go to Windows Firewall, Exceptions tab, and uncheck everything that you feel is not used.

A stateful packet inspection (SPI) firewall will only allow networks packets to come in if it has seen packets going out to that address. So if an application talks to a server, then that server is allowed to reply back. Otherwise all other inbound connections attempts are blocked. The Windows Firewall is an SPI type. So, that should fulfill your requirement of "disabling all network connections" .

One thing you should consider. Windows Firewall on XP doesn't block outgoing applications. So if you downloaded a malware and it starts calling home, Windows Firewall will not stop it. There are free firewalls available, like Comodo and Online Armor, which have outbound blocking. These 2 have a built in white list of safe programs to allow online. If an unrecognized program calls outbound, it will ask you for permission.

I don't understand why an antivirus will ruin you. I'll assume that you mean financially. There are a number of antivirus programs that are free: AVG Free, MS Security Essentials and Avast.

You stated that you want the 'most secured pc possible'. So I'll add some other advice.

Get a router if you don't have one. Even if you have only 1 PC. The router will act as a basic hardware firewall. The Windows Firewall is ok, but you need that router as an additional layer of defense.

It is best not to tamper with Internet Explorer, it is too integrated into Windows. Besides, you will need a browser to configure your router. But you can use Firefox, Opera or Chrome.

A secured Windows is one that is configured to do Only the things you need, and nothing more. When you have extra features that you don't need, it just enlarges the 'attack surface' that an attacker can use. First things to look for are the 'network facing' features, because hackers can tamper with anything that respond through the internet.

Go to Network/Properties and uncheck all protocols that you do not use. A minimal configuration just needs TCP/IP v 4.

There are some services running on XP that you'll never use. See this article:

http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/security/?p=354

Note, you better write down the list of services that you disable, and what the original settings were - automatic or manual.

Go to Secunia and install their PSI program. This program will inspect your installed applications and notify you when one of them have security updates. You will want to run this weekly.

Also keep Windows Update on Automatic. Most patches nowadays are security related, and you do NOT want to delay installing them.

If your programs can work when using a non-admin account, then use a non-admin account for your daily activities. The administrator account is all powerful, and if someone successfully attacks a program running as admin, they will gain admin rights on your system too. Then it's game over.

Someone with physical access to your PC can do a lot of damage. So you should have a long and complex passphrase for logon. For example, the phrase "Kirk is the captain of the USS Enterprise" will become "kitcotusse". Throw in a number and it becomes "k444itcotusse". I recommend passphrases longer than 16 characters.

Part of keeping your Windows secure is to keep up with all security fixes. A lot of successful attacks are based on vulnerabilities that already have patches, just because people don't do Windows Update. Never fall behind on patches. This is especially important for XP, because unlike Vista or Win7, it doesn't have ASLR, services hardening and other technologies to foil attacks.

Security is part 'setup' and a lot of maintenance. To use a physical analogy, you want to lock a door to keep the room safe... Read more

Hey ho peeps.

I have been having a major issue with my internet connection.

When i connect my HTC desire to use as mass storage, i instantly lose my internet connections.

First i lose the HUB, then i lose the hot spot connections.

I have installed all drivers and latest.

I have even done a complete overhaul and reinstalled windows.

But still this keeps happening.

I even went out and bought a new Wireless stick incase that was the problem.

Any help on this would be fantastic and greatly appreciated.

Lucky

A:Internet connections lost when connecting HTC Desire

The problem has been solved.

Don't know why but i plugged ma HTC into a USB 3 port and the problem stopped. Still connected to the internet and the phone is connected also.

I did another search with a completely different search wording and found a Facebook thread that said some people had a USB 1 front port.
I could'nt believe this may have been the problem as my front ports should be USB 2 (check system specs below for case and board).
So, i just thought, i will go one better and try USB 3, and voila, it works.

A:Lost all Netwrk connections with Funny File

Hi, Please get this newer version of Hijackthis, it shows more than the older one. Link is below.

You must also make a folder to hold hijackthis so it can work correctly. Create the new folder in Program Files or My Documents or simply make a new folder right on drive C: so the path appears like this, with hijackthis.exe in a separate folder...

C:\Program Files\Hijack This\HijackThis.exe

You may need some other small utilities depending on what is seen in your HJT log, so lots of folks create a Tools folder...the name is not important, the location is.

If you would like to create the new folder for HJT on Desktop:

You can use the Desktop, but you must make a new folder on it, right clicking any empty spot of the background (wallpaper) will give you a menu, select New>Folder and type over with a name like HJT or what you like, then, go to this site and download a new hijackthis.exe. When the File Download box is up, click Save, then in the Save In box, change the location by using the drop down arrow, TO Desktop and click Open, then find the folder you made and click to Save it to that folder. Run Hijackthis from there.

www.radiosplace.com

It has the .exe form, easier to use, ready to go.

Simply ignore your old Hijackthis and your old log. When you post the new log number it so you know the latest is what you are posting.

Post it here as a reply and someone will advise you.

Hello everyone:

I had (2) viruses on my laptop running windows 7. A trojan ransom and another related file. I ran "Roguekiller" and after it scanned and found a number of infected files, I selected "delete" (I later found out that that was not a good idea and I should have been more selective). Problem solved as it successfully removed the virus even after re-boot. The problem I am now having is now my wireless laptop, printer and even WII with wireless cannot connect to my wireless router. My desktop computer that is PHYSICALLY connected to the back of the Netgear router is working just fine.

I would really appreciate everyone's help with this issue. I look forward to your reply.

Regards,

Alex

A:[SOLVED] Win7 Laptop has lost internet connections

Hi,

You seem to have chosen a Static IP address. The lease of this IP address has probably been renewed and that adress is no longer available.

Go to:
Start > Control Panel.
Network and sharing center > Left column: Manage network adapters.
Rightclick your network adapter > Properties.
Double-click TCP IP v 4 > Set "Automatically receive IP Adress" on both options. Reconnect/reboot.

Check that the above is the same on all network adapters.

I have some Vista Business workstations on a local domain with a 2008 Server. The workstations can connect to the server's shares and navigate through them (there are several). But when I attempt to copy a file to one of the local workstations, the copy starts but does not complete and I get a message:
"Windows cannot access \\Server\Share
Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found."

At that point, I lose network connectivity and have to restart to get it back.

I can copy files *to* the shares without difficulty.

I tried switching "LmCompatibilityLevel" in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa from 3 to 1, but that had no effect.

Also tried assigning drive letter to share, using IP instead of system name, and disabling firewall on client and server.

The Windows XP workstations on the domain have no problem copying files from the shares.

Your input is welcome.

Hello all as you can see from the subject the problem is a bit weird Can't in working) are Connections (but See they Network Network Adapters from the command prompt ipconfig all i see everything but in the graphical interface not so i can't manage them and it's very annoying History of the problem The problem appeared after Can't See Network Adapters in Network Connections (but they are working) i made a big mess with the file and registry permissions when after using quot subinacl exe quot to reset Can't See Network Adapters in Network Connections (but they are working) the registry permissions and correct some other problems i began to get messages from programs and services that quot There is not enough storage to complete this operation quot anyway and after many hours made a successful recovery using a different vista installation to correct the Can't See Network Adapters in Network Connections (but they are working) file permission problem which locked me out from booting completely The thing is that both registry and file permissions to Program Files Program Files x ProgramData Windows folders were made manually to full permissions on everything to the system and administrators accounts and the same to the Registry Keys without subinacl exe this time so i know what is happening In the registry i had some notifications that it was not successful to everything Anyhow app and window function seems to work fine now except the problem with the network adapters I imagine that it's again something with the permissions but to what i can't risk damaging everything again Does anyone has any idea what i could check to see if the problem gets fixed Thank you

A:Can't See Network Adapters in Network Connections (but they are working)

Forget it .. it was a service that didn't start .. it needed to change the account which was running it .. as i said in the beginning ... big mess ! ..

A:All Web connections lost, Windows Search Protocol Host Stopped Working

Bump. I disabled the Windows search service but still have the unable to connect to the internet problem. I ran SFC /SCANNOW and there were several corrupt files that it could not repair. I am currently running CHKDSK and it is taking a long time (but still progressing). If I had to guess, there are corrupt files some of which are preventing connection with the internet. They may or may not have been caused by the virus I had to remove. Since the virus was showing itself on bootup and not allowing me into Windows, I had to disconnect the battery to reboot. Maybe that corrupts files?

A:No network connections, no network adapters

First off, since the network adapters don't show up, are they perhaps under Other Devices with an error? It sounds like the hardware is either dead, disabled in the BIOS, or the drivers are corrupt or missing.

Hi,

I'm running a Win XP SP2 machine, a couple of days ago the Network Icons in the taskbar dissapeared. Also, I cannot get into Network Connections to check the connections. The folder is empty.

However, the all the connections work fine, I just cannot edit them or get any details... Cause they're nowhere to be found.

I browsed around the net and found that for this type of problems one needs to check if certain services such as "Network Connections" and "Telephony" are running. I checked, and they are all stuck in "Starting" status. And nothing I can get them to start.

I checked the chain of dependencies and the service they all depend on "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" is started and running.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated, thanks guys!

A:Missing Network Icons, Network Connections Service stuck on "starting"

Symptom: Your network connections folder is empty.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, follow each one with the Enter key:

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

Reboot the computer.

Since you recently removed malware from your computer, it's possible you are still infected and that is what is causing your network issues.

I would advise having our experts here at TSF verify your PC is clean before we proceed further.

Please read this and follow all steps precisely.

Did you run the New Connection setup wizard, and what about your Setup Home or Small office network wizard for that computer?

But how would one go about transfering LAN connections, is there also a folder they are stored in?

When I go under Network Connections under the Control Panel of my PC, I get two two Local Area Connections. Here’s the thing, one of them keeps shutting off and on but I am using a cable modem to assess the Internet and that one works just fine. So I was curious to see if I should just disable the one that’s acting up.

From the attachments:

“connection1” is acting up (I disabled it anway)

“connection2” is not and is the cable modem

A:Two Network Connections

One looks like it is for your Realtek Ethernet card.

The other looks like it is your USB connection to the cable modem.

Personally if the cable modem had an Ethernet port, I would use that instead of the USB.

When I start up my system it says that I have no internet connection, when I look it shows 2 connections. One is my Home Network which I set up but I also seem to have another Network called Unidentified Network - Public Network which I don't want.
I have to disable the network and then enable and I go back to just having my Home Network. I would rather not have to do this everytime I want to get a internet connection, any ideas to solve the problem. I have tried to delet the Public network but nothing lets me do it.

Looking at a Dell Inspirion 2500 laptop running Home Edition 2002, SP2.
It will not connect to the internet through my (working) DSL modem:

Device Manager does not show even the spot for Network Adapters - it goes right from Monitors to PCMCIA adapters. And nothing on the page is flagged either with a yellow question mark or an 'X',
The Network Connections page of the control panel has but one heading -'Incoming' - nothing else - no LAN or High-Speed Internet, no Wizard, just 'Incoming', which says 'no clients connected'
I have NO idea what to do.... A system restore to several months ago failed to make any difference. The only think I was able to find out is that she suspects her (ex)boyfriend might have done something malicious to her laptop before leaving.
What should I be trying (other than a reinstall of Windows)?

nothing is showing up in my network connections on my emachine desktop computer. ijust wiped the hardrive clean and reloaded 98 and upgraded to windows xp currently using SP2

i cant get it to the internet. please help me!

A:network connections

What is the model # of your Emachine Desktop? Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager Any devices with yellow flags need to have drivers installed. On internet computer, You can download the drivers for your computer at the emachine drivers site and select your make and model # Then download Chipset, Network Adapter, and any other drivers you need and save them to a USB Flash Drive and transfer them over to this machine

in the control panel under netowrk connections there are no longer any icons. no wireless no lan no nothing, so obviously i can not connect to the internet. can i save combofix to a cd and then install it?
if so do i install combofix in safe mode and then run it? my laptop is so whacked out that i can't even enter any command prompts when i tried to boot from the windows xp cd. i am sure that i will have to reinstall windows but i wanted to get some data, mostly pictures, before formatting. i am unable to save any data from my laptop to a cd or zip drive.

thanks

may we advise you ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computerso please STOP before you proceed any further along that tack would you like to try running the much safer malwarebytes scan to check for nasties?

A:All network connections gone

Hi Smith,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Perhaps the following articles will assist you in properly setting up the wireless connection (or re-configuring it as needed):

Here's a tutorial on how to setup a home network (including a wireless one) - check out the additional links for further information that may be of great help: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Setting-up-a-home-network.

Here's an article on troubleshooting wireless network connections (again with helpful links): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-network-connection-problems.

Here's a long guide on wireless internet connections in Vista: http://www.techwarelabs.com/guides/misc_mod/vistaconnection/.

Here's an article on how to setup wireless internet connection in Vista: http://www.clpgh.org/usingthelibrary/technology/wireless/WindowsVista.pdf.

If that doesn't work, please follow the directions in: Network Posting Tips and either the information you post may help us identify the problem or the procedures you follow may resolve the problem.

I hope this helps. If not, try setting up an entirely new connection after having read the above articles and see if the new connection works any better. If so, just delete the first one and you should be good to go.

Good luck!

Hi Gang, can anyone tell me why I have three connections shown in network connections. The first two I know are my Ethernet and Wireless connections but the third is a mystery, it is "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". all I need to know is if this should be there and if it's all OK. Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Three network connections ?

The WiFi Miniport Adapter is a Windows 7 feature that allows a computer to connect to multiple wireless networks simultaneously. It's part of your wireless driver. So yeah, it's perfectly fine that it's there!

I am not aware of any connection issues with this notebook so it could be your antivirus or third party software , are you running norton or mcafee ?

Hi,

I have 5 PC's and a server on my home network. All of the workstations run XP SP2. The server uses Win 2003 Standard.

My problem is that one of the PC's seems to have an intermittent connection. Sometimes I can connect to it fine. But most of the time, when I try to access files on that PC or attempt to ping it or anything of that sort, it just doesen't respond at all.

I've tried giving it a new AD profile, and a new IP address, but I still get the same problem. I'm completely clueless as to why sometimes it works just fine and sometimes not.

I use ZoneAarm firewall, tried disabling it but it doesen't have any effect. Any help on this would be greatly apprieciated.

"IsDomainMaster"="FALSE"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters]
"DhcpNodeType"=dword:00000008 (standard is 00000002)

The first row is setting the PC as not the master. Your real master PC could be set to "true"

In the second setting you change your network to a Hybride type. With IP/CONFIG /ALL you may notice the change after a restart. It solved some of my networkproblems.
Note that this key is perhaps not present but you can add it.

I have cable for my ISP but I can't connect as there isn't any connection option in network connections (Such as LAN). What do I have to do to get a connection option there?

A:Nothing in network connections..

Check in your device manager (right click My Computer > select Properties > click the Hardware tab > click the Device Manager button) for any big X's or yellow exclamation marks. If you see neither of those, click the + sign beside Network adapters (if it is listed) to make sure your network card is installed, and working, correctly.

I succsessfully setup a wireless router at my friends house!
Its an azurewave aw-gr520.
All was great it was working wired with his destop and wirlessly with his laptop!
I thought i would see if i could get file sharing to work, now its all broke!
I have tried reseting the router to defaults unpluged it, and still nothing.
The internet still works directly from the cable router but now i can not accsess the network settings!
I can not open them on the desktop through the control panel i can not even open device manager.
So i am a bit stuck for what to do!
I do not know if the router is knackered or if it has something to do with the mysterious disapearence of the network settings?
Any ideas/help greatly appricaited!
Using a windows xp desktop.
Cheers Chris

A:Help Network Connections

First off, once you get the router working, you don't need to do anything to the router to configure file/print sharing, so I don't know what happened there.

Reset the router to factory defaults. This is usually accomplished by holding the reset down for 15 seconds with power on. Then you can follow the factory instructions for configuring the router again.

Recently a message box called Network Connections pops up when I want to visit a website though I don't know which page(s) are requesting this. The box asks me to choose a network between Broadband and Bluetooth even though I am already connected by a wireless connection with Sky. Which program is asking for this? I've tried disabling Broadband but it doesn't work for more than a few minutes. This is really annoying so can anyone tell me what to do - in simple terms please!

I have Win Vista, use FF (only recently downloaded), and have AVG, WinPatrol and Defender.

I recently installed verizon VZ Access Manager to use my blackberry as a tethered modem. Since then, I have noticed that neither my wireless nor my wired LAN connections appear in Network Connections. My connections work fine. I am using a wired LAN connection to send this. However, the connection does not appear in Windows Network Connections. According to what I've read, the connection should be automatically entered there.

Why would it be missing, and how do I get it back?

Huh. So the only way you were able to get the CD to recognize and boot from a CD (at least the XP CD) was to give it no other choice in BIOS. Very interesting. Thank you for that information, as it may be useful for someone else in a similar situation.

First, your ISP should have provided you with a Network Installation Disk. Usually, these will do the wireless configuration for you. THis is usually best because sometimes these things are "customized" and will select certain necessary settings that are constant for the particular ISP for you.

Failing that, you can try "Start>Control Panel>Wireless Network Setup Wizard" and see if that can't do it for you. However, it is more "general" in nature (meaning dumb) and will not know certain things that the ISP's Install Disk might. So you may need to know certain information in order to configure it properly.

However, I am concerned with part of what you said.

After doing a reformat and New Install, you really HAVE to install the Motherboard Drivers as there are drivers there that are absolutely critical to the basic operation of the system. Once it is running, it is also highly recommended to go to the Motherboard Manufacturer's web-site and update those same drivers.

Because,
*IF* your wireless LAN card is a USB device, I think it needs to be recognized and running correctly before any wireless configuration will be successful. I don't think the Wireless Connection Wizard is going to install the drivers necessary for the LAN device to work. But the motherboard driver disk and the updates that go with it will.

Meaning you need to get the device recognized & running properly before you can connect.

Also, since you were in the BIOS setting things to default, make sure you did not disable either the basic USB functions or the USB 2.0 function (the are sometimes separate) as having those disabled in the BIOS will prevent USB from running correctly.

Most of my other thoughts are dependant on what kind of NIC/LAN card you are using. Please report it's make, model and method of connection.

Hi,

I was working on school work and something popped up and restarted my computer and i kind of freaked out and i messed up something in my network adapter in my device manager and now my laptop picks up no connections at all... HELP!!!!

A:No network connections available

can we see an ipconfig /all and a device manager screen shot

ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

For Windows 8 or Windows 10
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/open-an-elevated-command-prompt-in-windows-8/
Use Windows + X Keys together and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.Or Right click on the windows icon - bottom left hand side - A menu appears - choose Command Prompt (Admin)[/indent]

For windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R
Now type CMD
Now press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt
It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.
