PC shipments continue freefall ahead of Windows 10's arrival

Q: PC shipments continue freefall ahead of Windows 10's arrival

The second quarter of 2015 saw the sharpest decline in global PC shipments in close to two years and once again serves as a reminder that last year's brief resurgence was little more than a fluke.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nobody needs to upgrade every three years now. You can easily hold your hardware for up to 10 years if you really want to.

10 out of 70 of the W7 x64 Pro NVR recorders I am maintaining keep setting their time to 1 hour ahead. I have set this to sync internet time with time.nist.gov and have set it to manual time as well. They were all initially set to sync time with
time.nist.gov and they all went to the wrong time sometime Wednesday night. I set one to manual time on some last and it still jumps 1 hour ahead.

This is a major problem as it stops people from viewing footage as the recorder is 1 hour ahead of the viewing platform so it cannot view current footage.

They are all set to the correct time zone. I rarely have to reset the time normally usually 1 or 2  machines per month.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran the upgrade assistant and it showed me a list of what is and is not compatible w/the new OS. I proceeded to the next screen and it suggests the upgrade to windows 8 pro. My issue is that the current version of windows 7 is not genuine. Does the upgrade assistant not look to see if my OS is genuine or not? If I buy the upgrade version and try to install it, will it fail due to the current license not being genuine? I built this system myself, but I cannot find a system builder disc w/o going through amazon.com to get it and I'd really like to avoid them if I can.

I have managed to avoid installing Vista and have not missed it one bit. However, I am hearing that Windows 7 will be better and I guess I will need to upgrade when it comes out officially. Does anyone know if I will be able to go directly from XP to 7? Somewhere I heard that I may need to go to Vista first and then to 7, which would seem to be a waste of effort and money. Anyone know the answer to this? Thanks.

Microsoft gave its privacy policy and service agreement a facelift Thursday, and offered users a new central clearinghouse to manage privacy settings for all the data the company keeps about them.

The newly-minted privacy dashboard (included in the Security and Privacy section of Microsoft?s account administration page) gives users links to control data stored for personalizing their experience on Bing, what apps and services use their information, whether Microsoft personalizes ads for them and whether the company can market to them via email. It?s part of a move by the company to unify and simplify most of its service agreements and privacy policies for various products under one document.

It's only been four days since the Windows 10 Technical Preview was released to the public, however that doesn't mean the build that was issued with the Technical Preview is new. Windows 10 build 9841 was compiled on September 12, which was around three weeks ago. That's ancient in development time, so it's no surprise that build 9855 was recently compiled.

Thanks to the "preview builds" ability (which doesn't currently work) in the Windows 10 Technical Preview, users who are using the Technical Preview have managed to see some more recent builds of Windows 10. According to logs that appear when the operating system is attempting to connect to the update server, the operating system is seeing builds as new as a few days ago. Build 9855 was compiled on October 2nd, just two days ago.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL: 4 out of 7 purchases arrived DOA or failed in 1st month. Following is

Any one out there got any suggestions: Could i just be in the nth percentile, as they say in "quality control" ? Do i try a different brand manufacturer? I have a bad habit I sometimes see a good buy on a computer and buy it ahead of time I mean to use at a later date I figure the older computer is going obsolete first so I seem to end up with or arrival ? opening... on dead surplus obsolete dead on arrival ? or opening... computers but like dead on arrival ? or opening... Windows ME never used My problem of recent discovery is it seems every computer I bought and never even opened the box is DEAD I have just been dead on arrival ? or opening... dealing with my XP units now Open one up and it s DOA DOO--dead on opening I am not a wizard and getting so old my brain is dead so excuse me When I mead dead you can t even boot into the desktop Can t run a restore disk or anything unless such can be done with some unknown DOS command I just opened yesterday Third one new out of the box thats been sitting around XP-- ghz grrrrr won t even go to desktop just hangs Got into SAFE MODE once but then it started giving whacky error messages I am not experienced enough to de-bug something that won t even get to the desktop I ve taken to a small computer repair shop Told times so far hard-drive is dead With a new hard-drive they work wonderful They re-load WINDOWS I don t know where they get Windows from because they don t use my disks or partition on hard-drive What s my problem Do hard-drives go bad that fast i e sitting in a box never used - years etc I ve never had the problem with laptops yes battery goes bad Even the CMOS battery will still be good I hate to ask more to confuse things but When I get these desktops back with new hard-drive and re-installed Windows can I use MY restore disks later if wanted It s nice to have the OS clean of all the junk they put on a new computer like trialware etc THE ONLY REASON I ASK THIS is the restore option of a restore disk returning something to original configuration often cleans out a lot of clutter and garbage that collects with time the person who buys computers ahead of time nbsp

I have Windows 7 and the latest version of Windows Media Player. When I drag the slider to any point of a large, high quality video file, it takes a long time for the video to play at that spot. I understand that it may take a second or two because of the video quality but it may take up to a minute or more. Keep it mind that these are files on my laptop, not a stream or anything connected to the internet.

I have an AMD Athlon Neo x2 Dual Core Processor on a HP dm3z laptop if that helps. The card isn't really top of the line but I don't think it should take this long to skip through videos, regardless.

Is there a way to tweak the settings or have any necessary codecs to avoid these long waits?

Hi
With Brink's help I have recently recreated all my personal user folders after some incorrect deletions... However a mystery My Stationery folder with files like Art Deco has appeared in My Docs. Where has this come from and how is it normally used? I don't have Live Mail or anything like that.

Cheers
Windsorian

A:My Stationery File - Mystery Arrival

Hello Windsorain,

Do you have a Office suite or Outlook installed? If so, then they add the "My Stationery" folder in your "My Documents" user folder by default for usage by the program. Same thing with the other "Art Deco" folder being added by some program that you have installed.

Hope this helps,

Dear Viewers
Seems like I can just get the device history,
I had tried the Registry:
MountedDevices
USBSTOR
DeviceClasses
The date/time will change after update drivers, system service pack, system restore

Then I tried the WMI:
Win32_USBControllerDevice
Win32_USBController
Win32_USBHub
But it won't get the date/time when I plug in a USB device
Finally, I can find the Last Arrival/Delete Date of USB Device in the Device manager, But, how can I export all these values ? Maybe using a Script?

Thank you very much!

Over the years, I've used a wav file from SNL ("Candy Gram") to announce the receipt of e-mails, in Win-98, Win2K, and XP. Now, when I substitute this file for use as my mail notification in Win-7, it works fine, once, and then stops. It then defaults to the original sound. Anyone else use something similar?

I am fed up with posters posting that 'x or y message has appeared on the screen' and me having to google it for them, so it not just the usual bsod errors, but anything that would fall under this then, for example 'press F1 to continue', 'no system found, etc., also for the moment it is just BIOS and XP that that I am covering, later I can expand from there.

Just received a Dell XPS8900 i7 with the 27" 4k monitor. As soon as I plugged it in it started running. It immediately went to an amber flashing On/Off button. Tech support says it is probably a bad mobo. I also couldn't get the monitor to work. From what I can gather the DirectPort cable is DP on one end and mini-DP on the other. Is that correct? Can I use a full DP cable (not mini on the one end)?

A:Dell XPS 8900 dead on arrival. Question about DP cable.

Below is the back of an XPS 8900. Near the bottom is the discrete added video card 10/11/12. If your XPS 8900 came with a discrete added video card, you should connect the monitor to it, not the middle 6/7 onboard video ports. We can assist more if you can provide the specific discrete added video card model.

Okay, here its how it all started.
i wanted to uninstall a program, but it didnt let me because it said that i didnt have the administrator rights.
so i googled how can i have the rights and i got a page telling me to use 'control userspasswords2' and make myself the main one.
so the computer restarted and then i tried to delete the program and now it says 'Windows needs your permision to continue ' and asks me for an administrator password that i dontt have. i am the main user of this computer and i guess i was the standard user. now when i try to run certain programs, the permission is denied. how can i get the permission from windows back. please help me enable the permission. keep in mind that i am not allowed to click on the " continue" when that window appears.! i cant even download programs!

A:Windows needs your permision to continue

Hello Onuemano, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You will need to be logged on to a administrator account instead of a standard account to be able to grant UAC permission. This is the default account that you setup during the installation of Vista.

Hope this helps for now,

A:My notebook won't continue to windows

Hi, It sounds like a harddrive failure, but you can check this as follows. Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information - and the current version of Windows. Regards, DP-K

A:Windows won't continue formating

If you have formatted the disk already, you don't have to Format it again. When it comes to install the OS, choose Leave File System As is. You should download the ISO Image Hitachi Drive Fitness test burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and do the short and extended tests on it to test the HDD's integrity.

Did you burn the ISO file to the dvd as you would burn pictures or documents? Or did you burn it as an image? You can just browse the DVD in another computer and if you see the ISO file, it wasn't burned correctly, and we'll get back to you on how to do that correctly by burning it as an image, rather than a file or other document.

A:Toshiba Satellite Click mini - Dock battery dead on arrival

Ok partially solved the issue via dismantling the device.

I pried open the tablet taking care not to break the ribbons that are connected to either side.
Swapped the batteries over.
Put the tablet on charge (with the fully depleted battery)
it started charging (power adaptor also got warm)
Left it for an hour or so (was then at 55% battery life)
swapped back the batteries

The issue still here is that when the tablet is fully charged 100% and in the keyboard dock. I assume the keyboard dock will then get charged. Unfortunately it is mentioning.. Not charging....

I'm not sure if this is the place for it, and I have posted this in the Windows 7 forum as well, but I am attempting to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Iv'e had a few problems with the process but I have gotten as far as the computer rebooting in order to start the installation, but it just reboots to Windows 7, no errors or other messages, not even any time added to the boot process.

I'm using 64bit, turned off all antivirus etc, unplugged USB devices and the like.

Any suggestions? Thanks

For the longest time I have had a problem with my Windows To SOLVED Continue Sleep! 7 Won't custom build Windows machine staying in Sleep Mode I would set it Windows 7 Won't Continue To Sleep! SOLVED and a little time forward and the machine would be started again I Googled every answer I could find Nothing seemed to work Today I was reading some additional suggestions and one came up that stuck in my head It said it Windows 7 Won't Continue To Sleep! SOLVED may be a slide show I don t have any slide shows set up but after some thinking I decided to turn off the Windows Personalization desktop theme that I had on my computer I chose to have them rotate some beautiful desktop themes every seconds Once I turned off all but one of the themes I have not had any additional problems with my computer staying in sleep mode I hope this helps someone else who has had the same kind of trouble I like the various desktop background changing but I also like the ability to use sleep mode Any comments or thoughts

A:Windows 7 Won't Continue To Sleep! SOLVED

Hi Jazzman,

This sounds like a problem I had years ago - I think I was running either Win 3.x or 95 at the time - when I tried to de-frag a hard drive and de-frag kept restarting. I even left it running all night once, for the same result. It turned out that I had a screen saver running and every time the image changed, it reset de-frag to zero. Switch off all screen savers, and de-frag ran as it was meant to. Sounds like every time the image changed in your desktop, it woke your computer up !

Sounds like you have a choice - a pretty background or a computer that goes to sleep !

I'm not sure if this is the place for it but I am attempting to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10.

A:Windows 10 won't continue install after reboot.

Hi,
Antivirus should be completely uninstalled not just turned off.
Did you refer to the asus website to see if this machine is compatible or not ?

Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

I've moved you to the Malware forum and edited the links you posted, in case otehrs click on them

If you're still having this problem, can you do the following for me:
Download Security Check from here.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

---

Download OTL to your Desktop
(Vista or Win 7 => right click and Run As Administrator)
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Standard Output.
At the top, check the box entitled Scan All Users
Toward the bottom, check:
All Users
LOP Check
Purity Check
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All
Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so.
Please copy the text in the code box below and paste it in the Custom Scans/Fixes box in OTL:

Click the Run Scan button. The scan wont take long.
A black box will appear, this is part of the custom scan, so don't be alarmed
IF OTL SAYS 'NOT RESPONDING' DON'T USE THE MOUSE. IT WILL CARRY ON SCANNING AFTER A FEW MINUTES

In order to prepare my XP computer for an upgrade to Windows 7 I was trying to run Easy Transfer using a big external USB harddrive to store my files.

But after the last selection "This is my old computer" I am immediately getting an alertbox stating
----------------------
(X) Windows Easy Transfer is unable to continue. Please reboot the computer and try again.
----------------------

I just HAVE rebooted, so what is THAT BS supposed to mean??? Is there some way to get at least an indication WHY this beast is refusing to run?

Michael

A:Windows Easy Transfer is unable to continue???

Make sure that you are using the most current ver of easy tranfer and that it is for 7. I saved mine on a 2gig flash drive. Give that a try. You do not need a large HD to save, since programs are not transferred.

A:Windows update installations continue to fail

Sometimes the inability to install updates could be malware related. I'd run a full scan with the free Malwarebytes. It seems to find things other programs miss. This link compares the free version to the paid version with downloads to each.

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Another reason for failed updates could be due to damaged or corrupt system files. You could run the System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (Option Two this tutorial.) If any problems are noted run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan. More than one scan is usually required due to system file dependencies.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If these two suggestions don't solve your update issue, you might want to troubleshoot using a Clean Startup (also called a Clean Boot.)

A:[SOLVED] Windows XP setup does not continue after restart

Wipe the drive with killdisk, free download do a google. What happens
is that when you have a install failure with xp, it leaves alot of crap
on the drive even though you format with there utility. It doesnt even
have to be a failure. Bottom line xp does a bad job of formatting.

Cant see why any Free Antivirus wouldnt work , XP support would only be No Updates from MS.

I run a Xp Machine SP1 and havent installed any MS Updates for over 5 yrs , but thats my decision , and no issues , only used for downloads and browsing , Avast and Zone Alarm Free installed.

Java Updates Should Continue to Work on Windows XP (July 14, 2014) In response to earlier reports to the contrary, Oracle's vice-president of product management in the Java Platform Group says that Java updates will be pushed out to machines running Windows XP, and that the patches should continue to work. The next round of Java updates is due out on July 15 and will address 20 remotely exploitable flaws. The announcement that implied that Java patches would not work on XP actually indicates that as long as Java vulnerabilities that affect XP also affect supported versions of Windows, the flaws will be patched.

A:What happens if I continue to get "copy of windows is not genuine" message?

Just an FYI Windows released a new update that causes this behavior if your copy is OEM then i would call windows and tell them they will supply a new product key. Other than that info i just supplied this topic most likely won't be talked about into any greater depth.

A:Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant Will Not Continue Ugrading

Kalipoo Win10 didn't get released until the end of July last year, so if you installed it in June, then you installed an Insider edition. Just out of curiosity, what version are you running now? If you don't know, open a command window and enter "winver" -- and post the results back here. What you might want to consider, at this point, is doing a Repair-Install of Win10.  This is the least destructive of all the Windows recovery functions and rewrites the Windows system files, including the drivers, leaving your data, settings, and applications intact. To do this, you will need to use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit).  Make sure you select the same version as needed for your PC. If you do not, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!Once you have that media, follow the instructions in the link:  http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.htmlGood Luck

I recently accquired a Gateway E4300 that had no hard drive so i went out and bought a Seagate 3.5 Barracuda 500GB internal. Its a SATA by the way. I hooked it up and got all the drivers i would need from the gateway website but when i run the Windows xp cd i go to partition the drive and it reaches 100 % on the progress bar then say that windows was unable to format and windows was not installed because of possible damage to the disk so does this mean my cd is faulty and i will need a replacement?

A:Windows cannot continue setup possible damage to disk

Some Seagate drives need a firmware update, so check the Seagate site to see if it applies to your disk.

After several months, Windows 10 is now attemting to upgrade automatically and against my upgrade choice onto my windows 7 (home premium 64 bit) PC.
I want to continue running Windows 7 but also keep the copy of Windows 10 I'm elegible to have.
How can I best acheive this? I do not want the update notice continually flashing up, in fact I'd like to make it disappear (once Windows 10 is stored somewhere. I do have an old internal hard drives gathering dust in the 'useful spares box' (about 400gbs) and wonder whether this might be a suitable place for it?

Hi. as the title says i keep getting this error whenever i try to install a fresh copy of windows 7.

it displays this error on the "installing updates" step

List of things i have tried:
Buning another dvd copy of windows
Enabling Sata insted of AHCI i think its called under BIOS
creating a bootable USB ISO of windows

The windows 7 iso works perfectly fine on 3 laptops i have reformated recently but on my own Dell xps 15 laptop it simply wont install it due to this error.

it previously had windows 8 which i have wiped out whilst formating the SSD hard drive.

Any suggestions?

A:windows 7 setup cannot continue due to a corrupted installation file

All I can suggest is to make an image of one of the 3 laptops (take the one that is the closest to yours - in specification terms) and dump the image on the SSD. You may have to redo the activation with the key on the COA sticker which is on the bottom of your laptop. And do not forget to also image the 100MB system partition. That you need too.

Then when everything is rolling and you have the essential programs installed, take another image which you can use in case you ever need to reinstall again. For imaging I recommend free Macrium.

I recently had to rebuild the Window 7 Home Premium X64 on my Gateway NV59 laptop. I used the recovery CDs from Gateway to do this.

So all I currently have is the OS and applications that were reinstalled from these CDs except the Norton Antivirus which I uninstalled since I use McAfee. I have not installed the McAfee yet.

I have installed approximately 160 updates successfully. Unfortunately the following 3 updates continue to fail:
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64 (KB2676562)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64 (KB2724197)
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 fo X64 (KB976932)

I even tried to install each seperately but had no success. I have attached the error message that I see when the installaton fails.

Any ideas as to why these will not install?

A:Three Windows Security Updates continue to fail installation

That normally means your computer is infected.
If it was my computer I would start with these.
Malwarebytes

Windows Defender Offline

It doesn't take 5 hours... how do you know anyway?

You can work normally with computer when:Downloading the stuff
Installing the stuff
The last step asks you to reboot and configures the stuff. Takes maybe 15 minutes to complete.

A:windows updates doesn't continue downloading when rebooted

I guess that I have to ask...why would you reboot the system...when you are trying to download anything?

Logically, it should go back to initiation of the download....there are only a few updates that allow for interruption and resume activity...and I believe those are all SP downloads.

Addnl new failure every month. along with the Windows Update history showing the failed updates I followed the directions on this site and ran the SURT and SFC Scannow but afterwards the updates still failed The SFC scan completed without finding any integrity violations I know you need the CBS log folder but it was too large and your site would not allow me to upload it I tried taking just the CBS log file which was MB zipped and splitting it into two files but even at MB each Windows Forum still would not allow me to Windows updates continue to fail. Addnl new failure every month. upload it I know this file is critical to you helping me with my issue-- if you can give me a suggestion on how to upload it I would obviously do so Any help with this issue would be most appreciated Thanks Bruce

A:Windows updates continue to fail. Addnl new failure every month.

Bruce,

I'm not able to help you with your error, but I can help you with the upload problem. You can set up a free OneDrive or DropBox site for yourself now, upload your file there, "share" it per the site instructions to share the link, and then paste the link here.

I am a non-technical user and I was able to do exactly that today in order to share my files that were too big to upload. DropBox free gives you 2GB of storage while OneDrive free gives you 15GB of storage, but other than that I can't tell you which site would be better for you.

My bigger ZIP file was 171 MB - it included multiple CBS and CBSpersist logs, plus a bunch of other logs (the unzipped folder size was 650 MB). I found that setting up my DropBox site was straightforward and the upload of my bigger ZIP was very slow but that might be due to my own network, I can't say. Once it finally uploaded, all I had to do was pick the file and click on the "Share" button on the right, which brought up a popup window showing the link which I could copy and paste or choose to send to an email or text address.

Hope this helps

I was installing Windows 8.1 from 8 on a Toshiba laptop. Lost Internet connection at the very last part of the download and couldn't reconnect. So I cut the computer off and when I cut it back on to reconnect so I could start over I was trying to reinstall Windows 8 as it suggested and it then went to a Choose an Option blue screen with 5 different options to choose from. I chose Continue Exit and Continue to Windows 8. It started loading but every time it goes back to the blue Choose an Option screen. I would just like to get back in to reconnect to the Internet so I can start the 8.1 update over. Thanks for any feedback.

Hello

Have you tried to revert the pending update through Command Prompt that might hopefully solve the problem for you. But I'm afraid the update has already been applied then only a refresh can fix this problem, lets try the reverting first:

Open Troubleshoot
Choose Advanced Options
Choose Command Prompt
Then type DISM /image:C\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions and hit enter
Then type move C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.old then hit enter

Reboot the device afterwards, if you get a FILE not found then replace C: with X: that might help ;) (See step by step video and guide here)

Hello...my son's MSI GE60 OND (think it's a OND anyway) laptop which came with win8.1 has not yet got the go-ahead to install win10.

We signed up for it when it came out and got the win 10 icon ...but it states something along the lines that it isn't yet ready to be installed.

The MSI website isn't much good .....I have an account but can't log in as I now need a code that I haven't got , to log in. Some companies seem to try to discourage forums in my opion-

The laptop though doesn't seem to appear on their list though of LAPTOPS OK FOR UPDATES.
Windows 10 MDA Microsites

However the specs are better than my homemade PC which is upgraded as is my son's

Is it still early days (in europ?) and should I wait or should I force the update (registry edit required I believe)

thanks

A:win 10 not got go ahead yet

you can download the iso and install it. You may want to create an image file of the current install in case there is a reason for not getting the download.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Please move hijackthis to the root of C:\.
Do you know what program this entry is related to? C:\Program Files\Mini Motty\skinkers.exe

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

Download Winsock2Fix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove the following if listed.

NewDotNet
Messenger Plus
Ares

Messenger Plus= Produces adware on the PC.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure)

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\MsgPlus.exe

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://runonce.msn.com

Delete the following Files/Folders in RED (delete folders if no filename is specified or they are RED) according to their directory (If you can't find them...do a search for them?make sure you have search hidden files, folders, sub directorys..ect enabled if it applys to your OS)

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\MsgPlus.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~1.DLL
C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\maxspeed.exe

Creative has new drivers, so not a problem. In all previous builds, the driver worked flawlessly. I had to re-install it in build 7600, but likely due to a conflict created by the install of Sun VirtualBox.

The copy of Windows 7 you're running today will not stop working when Windows 8 comes out. It will continue to be supported for an additional seven years, with mainstream support until January 2015 and extended support until 2020.

During that time, Microsoft will probably release Windows 9 and Windows 10 and be well on the way to Windows 11. Yes, thanks to Microsoft's extended support lifecycle you will probably be able to upgrade from Windows 7 directly to Windows 11.

Does anybody notice when you download a video file and it's not complete you can't skip ahead in the file because it's not complete? Is there anyway to get around this or any other media players that can skip ahead without any problems? Thanks.

A:Not able to skip ahead in WMP

Hiya

If you downloaded this from a p2p program, we can't help you on that. Also, if its a asf or wmv file, you won't be able to skip ahead. Some say they're other types of file, but if it has a little sun in the bottom left, then its one of the previous two.

You'll probably need to adjust your time in the BIOS instead of windows. When you first power on your PC theres a screen that comes up for a few seconds, i.e. the manufacturers name. There is a key you must tap to get in. Unfortunetly, not all motherboards are the same. Its usually F2, F1, or the delete key. It might tell you what key to press on the screen itself for a few seconds, giving you enough time to see what it is. Whatever the key is just keep tapping it until you get in there and from there adjust the date/time. Be careful not to adjust anything else while you are in the BIOS. Save, Exit and restart. Next time you boot into windows, it should reflect the changed date correctly.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. I've downloaded all the necessary patches for the daylight savings time fix and my clock is ahead one hour than it should. The checkbox to automatically adjust clock is checked and I've tried going back and forth on different time zones to get the it right; but it will not work. Also using Outlook 2007, but only for some minor email usage. Was told that Outlook 07 did not need a patch, only needed one if you did stuff with the calendar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My laptop comes with 4 drives...
C,D,E and F
see snip photo in how they are set up...

My question is it possible, when Windows 8 arrives, to load it on D drive?
That way I will have both Win 7 on "C" and Win 8 on "D".

I had Vista Home Premium on my Desktop then upgraded 7 Home Premium over it.
So my 2nd question is ....Anyway to fetch Vista HP off desktop and transfer it to Laptop?
Forgive my dumb questions but was told the only dumb question is one that is never asked.
Thanks In Advance,
THW

Dear fellows:
I have an older ( about 6 years) IBM Thinkpad 600X. I am trying to install MS Windows XP through CD-Rom over the Linux currently installed on the HDD. I have tried to make CD-Rom drive as a first boot drive, but haven't had any success. Please explain in a simple way:how to move CD-Rom Drive ahead of the HDD in the Bios. Thanks, brij.

A:CD-Rom Drive ahead of the HDD

Most BIOS will start with a screen that has system information and tabs along the top . . generally General . . Advanced . . Boot . . Exit are then ones most common.

Click on the Boot and in the body of the screen you should see "Boot Order" or something like that. Usually, you can click on the first item and move it up or down to change the order the syatem will look for a bootable device.

Default usually is : First FDD (or Floppy)
Second: HDD ( sometimes disc 0)
Third: CD-ROM

You would click on CD-ROM and move it up with the + - keys or Page up/Page down.
Then press F-10 to save and exit.

Hope this helps . . wrs
