Preferred Solution: After Effects Of The Vundo: Explorer.exe Keeps Closing And Restarting. Vista Only Boots In Safe Mode.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The only changes I have made recently was installing some adobe products, I am currently unable to uninstall them completely. When attempting to boot normally the login screen appears and then the screen just goes black after a while to a flash of the blue screen and then restarts automatically. Any recommendations as to what I can do to work through this.

A:Vista boots up in safe mode but not in normal mode

Hi

The eventviwer (goto start then type eventvwr) system option would be giving a reason for the problem.
Most probably a driver update like display would be the problem.
Please do not try to delete any driver yourself as it may stop you from using the computer totally

you can go and try a system restore by restoring it to the date where you last remember all as working
System restore is accessible by clicking start and typing system restore.
There is no risk of loss of data when you run system restore(but avoid using a very old date as that will kill any new softwares installed)

Hi everyone i hope someone can help.

My computer came up with the following message this morning

windows no disk

exception processing message c0000013 parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

when i clicked cancel the computer kept flashing!

I restarted the computer and the computer started flashing again!
When i went into task manager i noticed that the "flashing" was being caused by explorer.exe keep restarting.

I went into msconfig and selected the /safeboot option to start windows in safemode and now the computer just keeps restarting when it reaches the windows loading screen!

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks Chris

Flashing GUI

What version of Windows do you have?

If you have Windows 7 and you updated your video driver, that can be it right there. If that's the problem, then you might have to roll back your updates and go back to your former ones.

Right. After dying completely for a few hours its back to the locking up shenanigans. Same scenario as above. Anyone got any ideas of where to start with this one?

Windows appears to load normally until reaching the logon screen at which point 2 quick cmd windows flash on the screen and i'm left with a cursor and a plain blue screen.

No access to task manager through ctrl+alt+del.

I was thinking it's a video card problem until i plugged in an external monitor and saw a windows error box pop up saying that the program running requires that you not be on battery power.

Pulled the drive and scanned with avast and malwarebytes which found nothing.

Inserted Vista DVD but the repair function is only able to find the HP Restore partition and is unable to locate any backups.

The system runs "mini XP" from Hirens Boot without a problem, but no diagnostics that i ran have been able to find any issues...

Ideas?

A:PC doesn't boot in normal mode even after OS reinstallation, though, boots in safe mode

Yes, the hard drive may have become faulty and unreliable and therfore will soon fail completely. For confirmation, test it with the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS.
The links are here: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

In Safe Mode, no third-party drivers are loaded. In Normal Mode, all those extra drivers being accessed on an already flakey drive is causing it to crash.

Hi,

My laptop does not starts on normal mode it freezes on Booting. But it starts normal on Safe mode. I tried installing new windows 7 also but it freezes on the starting windows screen after installation file copy. I even tried Ubuntu 10.04 , it freezes on installation screen.

I need a solution for this problem

My Notebook details :

Model: Acer extensa 5230E (But in BIOS I can see 5630 - I have no idea about this because I bought this laptop on ebay)
OS : Windows Vista basic (32 bit German)

A:Acer extensa 5230e doesnot boots on normal mode but world on safe mode

Downloading UBCD which is in my signature.Burn the ISO Image to a blank CD using Imgburn (How to burn a ISO Image using Imgburn) burn at lowest speed. With the newly burned cd boot with the cd go to HDD>Diagnostics>The make and model of your hard drive, Seagate, Maxtor, Drive Fitness which is Hitachi, Or Western Digital. Perform a short and long test. Could also be called "Standard" and "Extended" test or also "Comprehensive" test. The Seagate hard drive test will work on most drives.

Seagate tools will work with some hard drives. If it doesn't with your hard drive try another.

windows xp sp3 boots in normal mode ..However when I boot in safe mode I get the blue screen of death.
When i ran the chkdsk /f or chkdsk /r command in normal mode it tells me the volume is in process and prompt me whether i would like to run the chkdsk on next restart. However chkdsk never gets started on next restart.

I ran the chkdsk (read only mode in the normal mode) and it says there are errors at stage 2 and cannot continue.
Before all this happened I was affected by malware/spyware. I ran the antispyware/antimalware and was able get rid of them..

Any help greatly appreciated...

Phase 2: Checking indexes (directories) During this pass, Chkdsk examines each directory that is on the volume, checking for internal consistency and verifying that every file and directory that is represented by a file record segment in the MFT is referenced by at least one directory. Chkdsk confirms that every file or subdirectory that is referenced in a directory actually exists as a valid file record segment in the MFT and also checks for circular directory references. Finally, Chkdsk confirms that the time stamps and file size information for the files are up-to-date in the directory listings for those files. Just a guess...but the fact that chkdsk cannot run could mean MFT problems.http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/file/ntfs/archMFT-c.htmlhttp://www.ntfs.com/quest14.htmSee data under Repair NTFS MFT at http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Advanced_NT..._and_MFT_RepairI've had one bad MFT experience, I just did a clean install after deleting the partition. Some things cannot be repaired.Maybe others have better ideas...Louis

Hi all,

Windows 7 x64 does not boot into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with command prompt. Normal mode boots perfectly. Are there any suggestions on how to resolve this? I've tried startup repair and attempted fix boot, etc. No affect. The unit is free of infection. I also tried using SFC, but it said everything was fine. Any suggestions? Thanks

-Mike

Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:http://www.superantispyware.com/SUPERAntiSypware has a built in "Repairs" feature to fix policy restrictions and certain Windows settings which are sometimes targeted by malware infection. To use this feature, launch SUPERAntiSypware. Click the Preferences button. Click the Repairs tab. Click on (highlight) "Repair broken SafeBoot key" and then click the Repair button. You may be asked to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect. If you upgraded Superantispyware to version 5.0, the instructions are a little different. From the Main Menu, click the Repairs button at the bottom.Scroll through the Repairs list and click on (highlight) Repair broken SafeBoot keyThen click the Repair Selected Item button. You may be asked to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

I am running a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP Home SP2. Was working flawlessly until this a.m. when it would not reload icons after I tried to get back on from log-in screen. Shut it down and then found it would hang when trying to load windows on reboot. I get a black screen with only a mouse cursor visible when log-in screen should be coming up. No BSOD's or error messages seen. Boots fine in Safe mode, however. I have tried two systems restores and two "return to last working configuration to no avail. Scanned with McAfee Antivirus and Counterspy V2 antispyware - nothing bad detected. Very frustrating.

HI,

I am having Dell workstation with PIV 3.2 GHz,1024 RAM 80 GB SATA HDD with Win XP Prof on it. When I boot the system, it function smoothly upto Windows logo after that only blank screen will appear and keyboard hangs.

When I started in safemode it works fine. I THOUGHT that it may be problem with AGP drivers and removed drivers from safe mode but still problem continues. Also I cleaned RAM slots & AGP card, but there is no use.

PLease help me to resolve this problem

Warm welcome from TSF vnagendraprasad!!!

Well, definately sounds like a driver issue to me :P

boot into safe mode, and when it asks you for the option to do a system restore, click NO (clicking the no key brings you to system restore). do a system restore and try to revert back to before the problem started.

A:Windows Explorer Closing and Restarting

Hi -

The appcrash you listed had a 0xc0000005 exception - a memory access violation. The problem here is more than likely old and new drivers clashing - then you crash.

Your Windows Explorer executable file has a timestamp of 4907deda = Tue Oct 28 23:56:10 2008 and the MS kernel driver t/s is 4549bd80 = Thu Nov 02 05:42:24 2006.

The problem here is that your system is not updated with Vista SP1.

The installation of SP1 must be the top priority. Have you ever tried to install it? Has it shown in Windows Updates?

Regards. . .

Hi,

I am using windows 7 home premium. Since last day my PC is boots directly into safe mode only. I can switch to other mode by pressing F9. when I try to boot my OS normally, just after windows logo it goes into hibernate mode without any warning, and does not come back, I have no other option than restart the system. So yesterday I restore my system to last restore point and system was running fine, but today when I try to boot in windows it boots into safe mode only.

A:PC boots in safe mode only

Have you made any hardware changes lately or installed any software recently?

I just recently had to do a full restore due to a virus infection. After finally recovering files, docs, etc., I downloaded SP2 (I HATE SP3 - it has never failed to crash my system), and installed it. Now, Windows refuses to run normally - only in safe mode.

A:XP boots ONLY in safe mode

1) EXACTLY how did you do a full restore?
2) You absolutely should ALWAYS have the most recent service pack installed.

hi, I'm afraid only the people on the malware section of this site can help with combofix, so you may prefer to start a post there with a link to this one if you think there is evidence of malware. Was it someone on this site who recommended using combofix?
There are various reasons why a pc will only start in safe mode, have you looked in event viewer (system) to see if there are any errors noted?

My wife has a desktop with a lot of programs on it She has numerous quilting and sewing designs and also internet games The Pc operates on WinXP The problem arises when she needs to reboot The PC usually reboots in quot safe mode quot and then requires a number of attempts to restore it by going back to earlier dates until it is successful When successful is shows that it has renamed a number of files She also runs BounceBack system backups but we have never used it as quot restore quot eventully in boots mode up safe is successful The tech at my computer store suggests re installing Win XP but that is not a preferable solution at this time I have thougt of installing Registry Mechanic and running it but do not know if that is wise I am willing to take the unit in for repair other than re installing XP and do not know where to take it or whom to trust Any suggestions appreciated I live in Orange County California and will supply additional info as reqluested Thanks Sy

A:boots up in safe mode

Hi there and welcome to TSF.
The first thing you could try is making sure all your core files are intact and in the right place. Provided you have an SP2 disc, follow these steps (coutesy of Chauffeur2). If you don't have an SP2 disc you can find the instructions here.

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow ?please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

My computer was running very slow and after calling the tech guys at the manufacturer, I was advised to use the Cisnet's System recovery solution and do a destructive recovery which does a quick reformat of the hard drive but recreates the original production configurations.
I did that and the process went ok till I got to the final reboot and then the system hung on the between the Windows XP screen and the log on screen - all I had was a black screen.

I rebooted in safe mode and got it to boot up and tried to get it running in normal mode but could not. Got an error message that said that the system config file was corrupted.

The computer will boot in safemode but not in normal mode. I don't have the windows Xp installation cd

What can I do?

A:only boots in safe mode

Sounds like you need a new hard drive....reformatting did not fix the system32 config error.

I have recently been trying to fix a pc that hasnt been used in a few years. We built it in 2003; AMD Athlon, 1.14 GHz, 2.5 gb RAM, Windows XP Pro v. 2002, service pack 3 v. 5755.

When I tried to turn it on It would power up, but the monitor would stay blank, this was fixed by rearranging the memory sticks and now it will boot up in safe mode, but if I try to boot it normally it gets stuck on the blue 'windows loading' screen indefinitely.

Any solutions?
(I have not hooked the above system up to the internet and do not intend to until I get a virus software installed)

A:pc only boots in safe mode

Select Safe Mode with Networking. Download Malwarebytes install update and perform a full scan.

Also in safe mode go to control Panel administrative tools "Event Viewer" look through the System Error logs look for any errors also in Application logs.

Post logs.

If you have a Windows Xp disk in safe mode put the disk in. In run type in.

Code:
SFC /SCANNOW
let it run.

When done reboot. Report back if or if not this has helped.

My laptop (XP pro) will only boot into safe mode. No matter what restore point I choose, as far back as three weeks ago, when I know it was booting correctly, it will not boot normally.

I suspected a particular software of causing the problem, but even when I have uninstalled it, I cannot start windows normally.

How can I fix windows so it boots?

Have you installed any new programs or hardware recently just before this happened?

Do you run a firewall and anti-virus?

I am using Windows XP home edition on a Dell Dimension 1100. When booting up in the normal mode, the Dell logo comes on, the scren goes black, then the MS windows logo. This happens repeatedly. While this is occurring there is a clicking noise. When the screen is black, there is a brief strek of a thin whitish line and a brief appearance of a cursor in the lower left. The PC boots up fine in the safe mood.
Grateful for any help.

I have:
tried last known good configurationmsconfig, disabled everything but MS

installed and run Malwarebytes (several files cleaned)

if you could where exactly does it stop? You mean directly after the POST or somewhere later, then reboots and goes to the boot menu? At which stage exactly it drops the loading of the system? Does the pc freeze or boots up again after getting to the stop point?

Hi all New to this site but only Safe Mode boots XP in found at least one fix for the above problem My XP only boots in Safe Mode computer was able to start in safe mode but not in regular Windows mode I would see the Windows XP splash screen but as soon as XP only boots in Safe Mode it was suppose to load the desktop the XP only boots in Safe Mode monitor would shut off as if it wasn t recognized Here s what I did to solve it --I booted up into Safe Mode F during startup --Once in safe mode I went to the Device Manager Control Panel System Hardware Tab Device Manager Button --Click on Display Adapter --Right click on the Display Adapter s listed and select Uninstall I would suggest having your original Driver CD as a backup in case Windows cannot automatically reinstall the drivers if you don t have a driver CD I would suggest downloading the Drivers from another computer and creating a CD--again just in case Windows can t reinstall the drivers --Once you click to uninstall close the window and restart the computer --The cpu should boot back into regular Windows and reinstall the Display Adapters automatically If it prompts you for your CD insert it and load the drivers from there --Once it is loaded correctly restart the computer to see if it fixed the problem permanently I have a newer LCD monitor on an older XP Home computer and this fixed the problem for me Good luck and hope this helped nbsp

Bought a 45g IDE drive. FDISK'd, Formated, and SYS's it, then ran in my backup tape, setting it up as a new C drive. Win 98 SE. Hangs during boot, but on re-boot, goes into Safe mode and works okay. Am I on the right track to think the problem is with a hardware device? Why would a device work on the old drive, but not on the new one? Old one is 2g, fat16. New, fat32. Tracking the bootlog, it hangs right after calling vmtd.vxd, which is a program for a parallel port camera attached. Don't understand why it all works on one drive, but not on the new one. Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

If I interpret this correctly, I think there is a problem with the AUDIODEV.DLL but I have no idea how to fix this. Please tell me if I'm on the right track and how I might proceed. Thanks

A:Windows Explorer repeatedly closing and restarting

audiodev.dll is an unwanted file that is known to cause problems. Though it's a microsoft stuff, I still suggest you to scan for malware.

Perform a full system scan using: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download and some other good anti virus software as well.

If this doesn't solve the problem, follow this guide: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Hello.

I've had this frustrating problem for a while now.

My windows XP doesn't let me boot into normal mode. It shows the windows loading screen and then it just goes black.

I can log into safe mode and try a system restore, and it will let me log into normal mode but the next time I reboot I have the same problem.

I tried repairing, and then reinstalling windows but to no avail. I can log into normal mode once or twice, but after a while it happens again. And I don't do anything meanwhile.

It might be useful to mention that I have ubuntu installed as well and am dual booting with GRUB, even though I don't think that's the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks,

Last night I defragged my C drive and then used XXClone to clone my startup disk to a usb drive. Early on in the clone process I got this prompt:

"Application popup: windows-delayed write failed: windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\Harddiskvolume16\$mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connectiob. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

No my pc hangs on boot at the Windows splash screen. I can get in to safe mode but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot from here. I am also unable to type msconfig in the cmd line, as I get a prompt 'cannot find the file 'msconfig' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available'.

Any advice appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

A:Win2000 boots only into safe mode....now what?

Ok, read some threads and turned off a bunch of stuff in device manager. I have narrowed it down to the firewire host controller...if that is disabled I can boot no problem. I tried to install a firewire pci card and that crashed it too. How can I get around this? Reinstall drivers? If so, how do I go about that?

Thanks,
Steve
PS it's an old mobo, EPOX 8rda. I see it has one usb2 bus, how would I figure out which one that is? Thanks.

A:Windows 98 only boots in safe mode...

quickest to take your HDD out

You may get your PC to boot properly, but a very much quicker solution is to temporarily remove your old HDD and put it into your new XP machine on a secondary connection.

If you have two cables, one going to CD/DVD, put the old drive in place of the CD/DVD. If you have only one cable, you first will need to set the selection jumper on your old HDD to 'slave' before putting it in place of the CD/DVD

Once you have the drive in and recognised, it appears in XP as a drive D:,E: etc depending on what it replaced. You can just drag and drop your stuff then.

I have a PC that the only way to boot into Windows XP, is by booting into Safe Mode. If I don't boot it into Safe Mode, it will try to boot normally but it would freeze/hang at the Windows XP splash screen (where the blue bar is going across from left to right) and then there is nothing on the screen (no image). It just disappears. Once this happens, I noticed that the HD activity light in front of the case would not blink/light up.

What can be the cause to this problem? Again, I can boot into safe mode only. "last known configuration" also wont help.

Thanx in advance guys.

A:Inspiron 530 only boots in Safe Mode

Hi Jannoth,

Considering there has been an infection, have you tried running the scan via safemode to see if detects any further compromised files?

If it's not related to an infection, it might be to the current user accounts. Have you tried creating another user account and see if you can sign into that one outside safemode?

If the system boots in Safe Mode...but won't boot in normal mode...then it seems safe to say that something that loads in normal mode (such as a driver) but does not load in Safe Mode (such as a driver) is borking your boot.Which driver...that's a hard one.Related post, IMO: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/102893/computer-reboots-every-5-mins-or-so/Louis

Hey there,

I've got a pc with Windows XP Professional installed.

When I try to boot regularly, I only see a black screen (no xp logo loading) and nothing happens.

If i press F8 I can boot to safe mode. I tried System Restore, chkdsk and sfc /scannow and nothing solved it.

Thanks in advanced!

A:Windows XP only boots in safe mode

Boot that computer in "safe mode with networking" so it can have an active internet connection, then do the following in it:

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

Go here and click the large green "Download" button to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.5 (HijackThis.exe) to your desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows.
Double-click it and allow its main window to load.
Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis".
Click "Do a system scan and save a log file".
When the scan is finished in 30 - 60 seconds, a log file will appear.
Save that log file.
Return here, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log file here.

In Safe Mode follow this guide to do a clean boot. If the computer boots normally then there is a conflict that you will need to find by enabling the startup items a few at a time until you get the black screen.

https://www.winhelp.us/clean-boot-windows.html

After tapping F8 you can also try Use Last known Good Configuration from the menu.

New hardware means you need new drivers. Windows XP doesn't have the ability to load generic drivers the way Vista/7 does. Uninstall your old drivers, including chipset, networking, CPU...everything, and get new drivers installed.

That, or reinstall XP.

I tried running a memtest, but it kept freezing at 1%. I tried running ultimate boot disk as well, but the program froze as well. This is such a peculiar issue that i wasn't even sure on how to start searching for answers.

As well, i ran Spybot and cleaned up a few cookies, but nothing major appeared.

Recent events include placing a HDD into the computer that i had taken out and put in an external casing (which had worked just fine days before when it was in the computer).

I hope someone can provide some insight/first steps. Thanks in advance.

Good night.

First :
- Hp Pavillion dv6208nr
- Nvdia GeForce G6150
- 2 Gb RAM

Now that we got those details let's describe the problem:

- Last night I instaled 4 themes for my Windows 7, and right before going to sleep I restarted my Laptop, and when it came up, the screen started blinking with the Loading screen and a black screen and it did this until it shutted off, i turned it on again, and it did the same, but it didn't turned off it just stood blinking, then I tried to go in Safe Mode, It worked, As soon as i got in the first thing i did was delete the Themes to see if my problem was solved, but it didn't.

- I've been looking pretty much everywhere and I don't get anything that helps me out, so I'm here to see if someone can help me.

Karu.

A:My laptop only boots in safe mode Help!

Hi! Karulapara, welcome to 7F

Restart your machine while tapping the F8 key when a menu appears select 'Last known good configuration' and try that. This will load the last normal session you had.

If that does not work, get back into Safe Mode, and click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Select a date that you know the computer was running and the computer will revert to the state it was in at that time.

I recently got my hands on a used TZ firewall and thought I could boots only mode safe Sonicwall to use it for quot training quot purposes in order to be able to better configure similar devices for customers but I am not able to get the device to boot into quot normal quot mode even after at least attempting to put it back Sonicwall only boots to safe mode to factory defaults It will only boot into safe mode and only does this when I press the quot reset quot button on the back and hold it in while I plug in the power adapter then release the button I can get to the default homepage only if I hard-code an IP address on the same subnet to my laptop I cannot get a DHCP assigned address in safe more or in normal mode I thought the firmware was corrupted so I downloaded the most recent copy from the Sonicwall website and I am able to upload it to the device and it gives me firmware versions to boot from - normal normal with factory defaults or normal with quot backup quot configuration I ve tried all three options but as soon as it attempts to boot from any of them it hangs and I have to manually reboot it At this point it will give out standard x x IP addresses instead of something in the x range I ve searched online everywhere I can think of but I m not finding any useful information Any suggestions besides tossing it nbsp

Hello, my computer has only been booting to safe mode for the past day.
Right before it reaches the user screen it reboots, in a infinite loop.
So far I've ran ewido, kaspersky, panda, ad aware, spybot, and trendmicro.
After that I also did chkdsk and fixmbr, to no avail.

A:Windows only boots to safe mode

Do you mean that even in safe mode it enters an infinite loop and it never makes it to booting?

hey guys,

I recently did a repair of windows because i could not boot the computer at all. The repair seems to have worked because now i can atleast get to the XP loading screen.

However, it is now booting in safe mode ONLY. no matter what i pick (i.e start windows normally, last known config that worked etc.) it boots in safe mode.
The setup from the repair is attempting to finish but it's unable to do so in safe mode.

I can't actually DO anything in safe mode, because the message comes up that windows setup cannot complete in safe mode so i have to restart the computer.

Could someone help me boot my computer normally so windows can finish it's setup?

Thank you

A:Computer Only Boots In Safe Mode

I should add that before i did the windows repair i did use MSconfig to boot in safe mode. Starting to think that was a mistake.

Hi all,

Firstly, i am new to this site.

I am having the following problem:

My system boots only in safe mode and not in normal mode. A blank screen appears, when i try to boot in normal mode.
I went to authorized service center and found that there's a problem with my hard disk.

I got a new one. System worked good for around 10 days and the problem reappeared again.

I donno what to do. Kindly suggest me a way to get rid of this problem.

My system configurations:

Lenovo Idea Pad Y560
i7 processor, 8 GB Ram, 500 GB Hard disk, 1 GB ATI Graphic card.

I can provide any further details.

A:System boots only in safe mode

1) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)? Problems such as you are describing rarely occur spontaneously.

2) Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/startup_cpl.html) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire 6920G laptop. It worked fine yesterday shut it down as usual. This morning it took me to the repair screen but windows can not repair. I haven't set up a restore point either =( The laptop will start in safe mode but I'm pretty lost as to what to do from here.

I read a post that instructed one user to go to the device manager page under system devises and look for anything with a (!) I have a yellow triangle with a ! next to Consumer IR devices. Not sure if that means anything. Any help or advise is appreciated.

Thanks, Natasha

P.S This is my husbands laptop that I have killed and he can only go with out playing WOW for so long LOL

I can't boot windows in safe mode. I just got a computer from monarchcomputer.com and it seems they installed xp pro with SP2, which I think is causing the problem. They didn't install it with the option to remove it, so I can't uninstall SP2 through the control panel etc. What can I do?

A:Windows boots but not in safe mode

I doubt any builder would install SP2 in a way which it would be removable as it takes time to install it seperately, you can build a system CD with service packs 'slipstreamed' into the OS so everything installs at once, therefore the service pack has no system to back up before it installs hence there being no option to remove it. I've not come across this issue with SP2 before and I doubt that's the cause, is it possible you have an M$ or similar keyboard with which you have to press a key to activate the 'F' keys, this would account for pressing F8 having no effect, I do it quite regularly and it's a nuisance having multi function keys.
Or do you get the boot menu from F8 and choose safe mode from which it refuses to boot ?

My system boots up in safe mode after I had Comcast support troubleshoot. They say I had a virus that was hogging up my internet.

A:System boots up in safe mode emachine

Try booting into Safe Mode with Command.

When it opens type cmd in the Search programs and files box.

This will appear under Programs, right click on it and choose Run as administrator.

When the elevated command prompt opens type in, or copy and paste sfc /scannow, then press Enter.

Once the scan has finished a log will have bee created.  To access this log open the elevated command prompt the same way you did previously, the copy and paste  findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt and press Enter.

A new icon will appear on the desktop titled sfcdetails, click on this to open it, copy and paste this in your next post.

A:BSOD-0008e-- boots in safe mode

Read both minidump files and they only cite Windows OS drivers which from a diagnostic point aren't much help. However, both are 0x8E errors and though sometimes they can be caused by drivers they are almost always caused by hardware.

These errors particularly can be a strong indicator of corrupted memory.

Can you link us to both your motherboard and the current RAM you are using?

My company is running about 9 computers on a Windows 2000 server ethernet network. This morning 3 of the computers (Dell Dimension 2350 Windows XP Service Pack 1) booted to the safe mode menu. Even though I chose all options:
1. Safe Mode
2. Safe mode w/networking
3. Safe mode w/command prompt
4. Last known good configuration
5. Start windows normally
the computers kept rebooting to the safe mode menu. Also I noticed that the computers would not shut down even trying to do a hard shut down.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you in advance.

Windows 7 will not boot into NORMAL mode. It will only boot into SAFE mode.
This Windows does not provide the option: Boot into last good configuration....
It only offers: SAFE
SAFE with Networking
normal

In Safe Mode, I can not get Windows to react to a hard network connection.

I don't know how to get out of the SAFE mode loop and force Windows back into NORMAL mode.

A:Solved: Windows 7 boots only into SAFE mode

Does it boot when you choose "Normal" mode? If not, using "force" to boot to normal mode will make it completely unbootable, right?

You will need to fix whatever the problem is first.

How did this happen? Were there any recent updates or installations? Did you damage the system with any registry cleaners or "optimizers" of some kind? Was anything possibly important recently removed? Were there any problems or symptoms before this happened?

You will want to turn on Driver Verifier in safe mode, then restart the PC into normal mode and let it crash, then return to safe mode and send us all your minidumps as well as a JCGriff Report as instructed here.

A:Windows XP Home only boots in safe mode

1) You need to tell us what happens when you try to boot to normal mode.

2) When you say you "attempted" to install XP - what does that mean? Does the installation seem to complete normally? And exactly HOW are you trying to install it (step by step) and what are you using as an installation cd (original retail copy of XP, duplicated copy, home grown copy, oem, etc)?

A:Windows Boots Into Safe Mode, but Not Normal

Try this. Go into safe mode and then device manager and remove the driver for the video card. and then exit out and reboot. If it is a corrupt driver for the video card windows will go right thru and re-install.

Having a problem with my sister s XP system It boots up fine normally then Norton pops up a warning that trojan vundo has been found and can t be automatically removed Went to the Symantec site and downloaded their manual remover and followed the instructions restore off disconnect from the net etc The scanner remover runs safe XP screen a black to boots mode and does locate a few files that it says are suspicious then pops up at the end and says that trojan vundo has not been found The warning message never disappears from the screen at any time I then XP safe mode boots to a black screen tried to boot the computer in safe mode to attempt the same scan remove This is where my real problem occurs the safe mode prompts all work as advertised eventually reaching the welcome screen with a default graphics driver I select ANY username and the system completes booting into a safe mode window complete with the words quot Safe Mode quot in all four corners and absolutely nothing else It s a totally black screen No icons No start button No nothing The mouse navigates but no amount of clicking or double clicking does anything I can ctrl-alt-del and produce the task manager I can tab between the applications processes networking and such and XP safe mode boots to a black screen have to eventually use the task manager to either log off exit windows or restart the computer At this point I m more concerned about the safe mode failure than I am the trojan I can solve that problem with one of several scanners that I ve downloaded but I really want to knock out this black screen Any ideas nbsp
