Accidentally cut wire between 2 pins in motherboard

Q: Accidentally cut wire between 2 pins in motherboard

As the title says , I accidentally cut a wire between 2 pins (or whatever they are called) and now my PC starts slowing down after 20-25 minutes when I open it. After I restart everything is back to normal but after 20-25 mins its the same again. Is there a way to fix the wire between them or I have to buy a new motherboard? (sry , my english isnt very good. I hope you understood what is my problem) the image is what im talking about ,(the red is the wire) ,I got the motherboard picture from google , so its not mine.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please clarify this statement.

If you broke a few pins from the CPU, you will not be able to fix them.

Im a lil worried and i did a search on the forums.

Is 3-4 pins near the edge of the cpu at the tip with the triangle icon. Is this something to worry about?

I straightened them out with my fingernail tips and they look prety strong and arent about to break off.

I put it into the holster and it seems to fit well.

Should I be worried and return it for a brand new one?

Or forget about it and it will work fine?

Hello,

I bought a new case about a week ago and tried it's USB ports..
All worked but one of the USB3 headers didn't..
So I checked the cables, checked everything.. Decided to remove the USB3 plug from the MOBO and what do I see?
2 Pins are missing!

I have no idea how or when.. I tried to search for them, maybe they snaped when I unpluged the cable, but I didn't find anything..
The missing are pins 1 and 2 in the picture..
I think that pin 19 is missing too.. The image kind of faded off my mind right now..

Are those pins the reason why one of the USB3 ports won't work?
What do they mean? What do they do?
Is it safe to even keep the cable connected to the MOBO without those pins?

Thanks.

A:Broken USB Motherboard pins

Pin 1 is power, pin 19 is power and pin 2 is the USB 3 RX- signal, so yeah that's the reason the ports won't work. I can't see any harm in leaving it plugged in.

I have a Dell Inspiron which at this point can only be described as an old war horse Bought in It got my wife through law school and is now still holding up in our second year living in the developing world Understandably it s starting to have some issues but I m hoping with a litte help it can get us through the end of our time overseas in May I think these issues are related to loose pins connections on the Pins Loose on Motherboard? motherboard but I don t know exactly where and my internet access is spotty at best so I could really use some guidance about where to check Ok to the symptoms Recently the machine would not boot up It seemed to start but then shut itself down almost immediately When Loose Pins on Motherboard? I took it apart and put it back together it gave me a message that it had shut down to avoid overheating But this couldn t be right since it had been off all night and was not hot at all The fan is working fine so I think the problem may be related to the sensor or auto-shutoff mechanism Once I had the machine back together a diagonal row of keys stopped working The i k qnd key would not respond Can anyone point me towards what could be causing these issues Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Loose Pins on Motherboard?

Really would appreciate any guidance anyone can give on this. The machine continues to auto-shut down even when started for the first time in days, and sometimes will boot up but with the fan running full speed and constantly, so I think a temperature sensor is a likely culprit, but I don't know where it is located or if it is possible to repair easily.

Hello,
i just received my new motherboard, asus a8n, and i;m trying to connect my case's front usb panel with the motherboard.
The motherboard's pins are labelled:
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
| +5v P6- P6+ GND NC |
| +5v P5- P5+ GND |
- - - - - - - - - - - - -

As you can see, the first row has 5 pins, while the bottom one only 4.

My case's front panel has 8 pins, labelled
Power
Power
D2+
D2-
Gnd
Gnd
D3+
D3-

As you can understand, the pins of the panel are not grouped together.
Where must each usb panel pin go on the motherboard?

A:motherboard to usb front panel pins

My guess is that the matches are:

+5v ----> power
+5v ----> power
p5- ----> d2-
p5+ ----> d2+
p6- ----> d3-
p6+ ----> d3+
gnd ----> ground
gnd ----> ground
NC ----> unmatched

note that the p5+-,p6+- pins on the two other usb ports on the motherboard, have other names.ie one has p7-,p7+,p8-,p8+ and the other has p9-,p9+,p10-,p10+

Is my assumption correct? if yes, why is NC alone?

Hi everyone, I have a problem.
I pinmodded an LGA771 Xeon to work with my LGA775 motherboard. I decided to do it the hard way and use aluminum foil and tape to pin mod it. I think it worked out fine but anyway, on to the problem.

When I cut off the LGA775 alignment pieces, I accidentally bent 2 pins out of shape a little. Initially, I didn't notice, so I put in the Xeon to try it out, didn't work.
Then I tried my old processor, also didn't work (worked fine previously).

So then I noticed the pins and bent them back into shape, AFAIK it is perfect and you can't even tell that anything happened.
Tried both CPUs, nothing, no beeps, no signal to the monitor.

Is it possible to damage my motherboard if I didn't do the pinmod correctly?
Is it possible that I damaged my processor or motherboard by trying to run it with those 2 pins out of place?

Help please

A:Bent motherboard pins, fixed but now will not boot

I am not really sure, but my guess is you did not do the pinmod correctly since both CPUs do not work. I hope someone else can provide some insight on this issue. Good luck!

Just to clarify that I'm not being silly. Bought a brand new Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77X-UD5H Motherboard off of amazon. Was from a company selling through amazon. Product arrived with antistatic bag open which confused me a little. Contacted seller and was told its because the I/O shield is missing which is why it was cheaper than the others sold there.

Come to put a CPU in it and after removing protective cover some pins seem to be bent. Its an lga1155 socket and from images on google (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/Intel_Socket_1155.jpeg) the pins look like that however a few look bent straight upwards. Is it suppose to be like this or is it broken?

A:bent pins brand new motherboard socket?

None of the pins should be bent upwards. An I/O shield is one thing (presuming that it was advertised, or you knew it was missing when it was purchased), but I would return it if it has bent pins.

I accidentally broke off a capacitor on the motherboard of my Lenovo S540 Thinkpad (model 20B3CTO1WW). I've attached a pic of the capacitor. It had C2434 written next to it on the board, and 3D5 VLPS on the actual capacitor itself. It it located to the bottom left of the CPU fan and above the Wireless card. The laptop has booted fine and I've not noticed any problems, but should I be worried? How can I fix this? Can I just glue it? It kind looks like it was only held on my glue keeping it metal negative and positive connectors with those of the board....

zoom_cap.JPG ?299 KB

A:Accidentally broke capacitor from motherboard

It was not glued, but surface mount soldered.  If it is intact, it might be resoldered, but you would need a rework station to do it correctly.  Without a circuit diagram it is hard to know the function.  It looks like it is sitting next to the fan.  It might be a starting capacitor.  (just a guess)  Without it, power circuitry may fail eventually, or the fan might spin up slowly, triggering an error.

i have the usb single user modem that came with bulldog. the thing is that i own a belkin ethernet modem and the wire from the microfilter that currently goes into the usb modem doesnt fit in the belkin router. i know i need ethernet from the phoneline but don't know how to get it.

1) is there a different microfilter that contains an ethernet plug??
2)will i have to buy a different modem that allows me to put in the ADSL line one end and then get ethernet out the other?
3)if i do have to buy a new modem can anyone recommend one???

thanks, sorry if i didnt explain the problem very well!!!

A:i want ethernet on the end of a wire instead of ADSL wire....

What kind of plug does your Belkin modem accept?

If the one coming out of your microfilter is a narrow one (RJ11) then you can plug it into the wide (RJ45) socket no problem - the wires used by telephones match across these plugs. If things are the other way around then you can just go buy a cable with proper plugs or an adapter. You can also run the thing without a microfilter just fine.

what makes cat5 cable cat5 cable? as i understand it, it is just 8 normal wires that are jacked in a certain order to allow data transfer. so would it be possible to jack one rj45 jack onto the end of two clipped and stripped rj11 sized phone cables?
logically it seems like it should work...but when i attempted it, it was extremely slow. I was using very very old phone wire so maybe the quality of the wires had something to do with the slowness.
any thoughts on the subject?

A:phone wire as network wire

There are a number of twists that have to be done to each pair in order for it to pass good signal. Phone cords are not held to the same standards thus what probably resulted in the slowness.

Hi Hope someone can help.

I have board SOYO K7VTA PRO motherboard. It has a four pins on the board where you can put a four-pin speaker. I have a two-pin speaker. Is there anything I can do to convert the two-pin to four-pin.

And what's the difference between the two anyway?

Thanks,
Jonathan

A:PC speaker 2 wire / 4 wire

If you are talking about hooking up the case speaker to the motherboard then there is no difference. The regular (four pin plug) just uses two of the pins anyway. You can try cutting your plug in two and just connecting the two pins where they need to go on the system board connections.

you have to get one with the same amount of pins or it won't fit. First of all what computer do you have then we could research and see what kind is in it now. also look to see if your computer manufacture has upgrades on their website and it should say how many pins.

What.

Fans don't have pins. Maybe you should elaborate.

If you are referring to your processor, so long as none of the pins are broken, and you can carefully bend them back into position, you'll likely be ok. I've rescued hundreds of CPUs this way.

Well, USB and Firewire are two completely different things, well, sort of. The plugs are totally different, and the speeds are different. Most computers have standard USB ports built in. Not so much for firewire. What you need is a $30 firewire card, or a burner that is USB compatible. Another option would be to install the drive on the internal IDE.

When I saw how you could pin a website in Edge, I was absolutely thrilled. It worked for an entire session, but as soon as I closed edge, the pins were gone. Undaunted, I pinned them again, I really want this to work!! But sadly...
I haven't seen this as a known problem. Am I the only one? Is there a cure?
Also, I have really enjoyed using Edge with the ad blocker. I think it is fast and very clear. I think MS did a fine job...but I would love to have pins

Which years and which model CPU's had real gold pins on them? Can you please help me compile a list? Maybe someone already knows of a list that is on the internet somewhere they can share.

I'll start the list. I have two AMD Duron 600 processors with the year 2001 stamped on them both. Both processors appear to have gold plated pins on them. I seriously doubt the pins are solid gold though. Does anyone know for sure?

Also, it is my understanding that some computer parts also have platinum in them or on them. Does anyone know which parts and which years or which makes and models?

Thanks

you can check each one here:

but since the 8008 cpu(1973 timeframe) most are gold plated...

I'm going to be adding some RAM to my Dad's Compaq Presario 2500 notebook PC.

I've researched the PC and know the required memory type is PC2100 DDR-266 SDRAM.

The problem is that nowhere in the Compaq Manuals (I've looked at them online at their site) does it tell me the amount of pins.

I've seen DDR-266 with many different pin configurations. How can I tell (without opening the notebook itself and looking at the installed memory card, since my Dad is 45 minutes away by car) what the correct pin amount is?

Thanks for any help.

Hi all,

The problem is I accidentally wiped a tiny amount of the thermal paste onto the base of about 5 of the pins on the edge of the underside. I wiped all that I could off but it looks to me like theres enough there to short some of the pins (if the paste conducts).
Will this cause a problem?
Should I boot up and see what happens?
Any idea for somthing small enough to clean between the pins?
Thanks for any advice
ps. thanks for putting up with my endless questions about my new pc

A:Thermal paste on cpu pins

Well, bit of a tough spot there. What kind of thermal paste did you use? As far as I know, they are all excellent conductors (especially arctic silver) and you do not want to try starting your system with that on your pins.

Never had it happen, so I can't say for sure how to clean it out, but if it were me I would carefully try and wash it off with some solvent. You're going to need to be very careful not to damage any pins.... Good luck!

How much paste did you use? Is the paste electrically conductive, if so it could cause problems, if not, then I doubt it's much problem besides a mess.

A:back pins taking out?

I assume when you say that your "Windows won't start" you mean that you can not see it on the monitor because your not able to plug in your monitor? It may be starting but you just cant see it. You can install the new card, and install the driver from the CD or download it and it will work for you. Unless it's the pins on the monitor cable that you are having problems with?

Good morning,

I have a question, what are the pins for on the Nvidia M64PCI / 32mb, they are opposite the PCI slot edge but almost right next to the monitor socket about 26 in total in 13 pairs.

I thought at first they were for connecting the game port to, and if they are what advantage is it to disconnect the game port from the mother board and connect it to this.

I have a jetway motherboard with a 850mhz celeron with 288MB ram, running xp which i recently installed (for some reason a dll driver error turned up on start up when i tried reinstalling the nvidia setup! curious).

tried the nividia site, they did not appear to have any info on the above, was wondering what effect the nvidia has now that i have xp installed?.

sorry seem to be rambling, must be the lack of sleep.

best regards

I've decided to take the heatsink off of an older (not much older) video card and add it to my geforcefx to go along with the fan that's on it. I figure this'll help cool it down more, even if it can't do too much as it wasn't designed for it. I know it fits, but the little plastic pins that hold the fan or heatsink on are too short.

So my question, is there an actual name for those little plastic pins? What is it? And where might I find longer ones?

Hey guys so i got a 780 GTX from my friend for cheap to give my computer a little bit of a performance boost from my older card which is a AMD Radeon HD6950.

Now my Radeon used 2 6pin PCI-E connects but the 780 power connector shapes comes look to be a 6 pin and a 8 pin connector. Looking at the cables that came with my power supply (silverstone strider 80 plus silver 850W (SilverStone Technology Co., Ltd.INTRODUCTION?ST85F-P)) i am not 100% sure on what cables to use. I think where it says 2 x 8/6-Pin PCIE connector(550mm)in the connectors section refers to a 6+2 PCIE cable.

can anyone confirm what cable i need to use and include a relevant picture?

I have a Inspiron 15 3541 touch screen and "misplaced" my power cord and adapter. I'm using a Dell adapter from a different computer, but when I turned on my laptop, I get a message requiring a system or admin password even before it boots up. Is this because of the different adapter? How many pins did my adapter have? What problems does a different adapter create?

A:Power adapter pins

The password that is showing up before your computer boots sounds like there is a BIOS password set on the computer.  Unfortunately if you don't remember that password then you are probably stuck.  You can probably go online and search and see if there is a way to reset BIOS on the laptop and get it to default and remove the password that is set on it.  If there is a hard drive password though then the only way to remove that if you forgot it is to install a new hard drive as the password will follow the drive, not the computer.
Your power supply should have only 1 pin.  Dell used the same adapter for their computers for a while, they come in different wattage though and if you use an adapter that is too low then it may not be able to charge the battery while you use it or at all.  If the plug fits and it is a Dell charger you should be okay to at least get the computer up and running.  If it is a low wattage charger and the setting is set in BIOS (usually is by default) you'll get a message from your computer telling you that the charger isn't powerful enough to charge the battery while in use.

Could anyone tell me where I could find a diagram, chart or clear information that tells me exactly how many address pins are on the Pentium 4 processor?

It doesn't make sense to me that the newer Pentium 4 would drop the number of address pins.

Hi i was just wondering how do you know how many pins your memory slots are...because i was just looking at sticks of memory and i noticed they have 180/184/etc. pins...

so basically how do i know how many pins i have?

haha k thanks!

A:Pins on memory slots?

If you have a 286, 386 or early 486, you have 30pin 8bit SIMM slots.

If you have a later 486 or early Pentium/Pentium Pro/K5/K6, you have 72pin 32bit SIMM slots.

If you have a later Pentium, or Pentium 2/3, early Pentium 4 or early Athlon/Duron, you have 168pin 64bit SDRAM DIMM slots.

Some later Pentium 3s and early Pentium 4s have Rambus (RDRAM) slots, you don't have these.

Most machines these days have 184pin 64bit DDR SDRAM DIMM slots, some newer Pentium 4s have 240pin 64bit DDR2 DIMM slots (you don't have these).

I would guess that you have 168pin SDRAM DIMM slots in your machine, although you might have 184pin DDR SDRAM DIMM slots (unlikely). This means your machine takes PC133 SDRAM.

I have had a couple of client whose monitors seem to work okay except for missing pins. Is there any way to replace?

Thanks in advance!

Hey, could someone tell me if one of the pins on a processor breaks, is that the end of the processor? Some pins were slightly bent, and I broke one trying to straighten it.

I've pulled the old Fan out. When I google the PN: hi. 10800.028 e
I learn it's Socket 775, 95mm which I confirmed by measuring fan diameter.

Tiger Direct shows this right-priced replacement model which matches every spec except it has a 3 pin plug: VALUE SOCKET T/775 HEATSINK at TigerDirect.com. They don't know if 3 pin plug works when 4 pins are present on mobo and original part has 4 pin plug.

There's also this used one which exactly matches PN: Acer HI.10800.028 Heatsink and Fan Gateway AX3400G X1420G X1920G

And this one for twice the price that matches even the Acer model number: New Acer Aspire X1200 X1300 X1301 X1800 X3200 X3300 X3810 Cpu Fan. But he doesn't wanna spend that much.
We only need the fan.

A:Will 3pin CPU fan plug work with 4 pins?

It should work, but you won't have fan control - always on, full speed.

hi. i was just cleaning out the dust and dirt from my compaq sr2030nx amd computer and i took everything out. i put it all back on the way it was. pluged it in and then the computer started using a beep code and i quickly fixed the problem but the keyboard, mouse and monitor didnt work. on start up for the computer the lights flashed on both mouse and keyboard but didnt stay when i pressed numlock and such. then the computer monitor had a black screen with a amber light. i had accidently broke 2 pins off my processor. is that the problem? should i just replace the processer? plzz help so

A:blank monitor & broen pins

The broken pins are almost certainly the problem.
Try to get exactly the same CPU, using what's written on the top as your guide, I think it's an AMD Athlon 64 3800+

For future reference it's not necessary to remove the CPU to clean, just blow any dust out of the heatsink.

EDIT : Are the 'broken pins' right in a corner of the CPU ?
If so there may be NO broken pins, it's normal for an AMD CPU to have one corner with less pins, so that the CPU will only fit in the socket one way round.

I noticed when i pin most sites to my start menu in windows 10 i get a generic edge logo.  i pinned youtube and i get the you youtube logo as the icon.

what can i do to my website to get it's icon to show up when it gets "pinned to start"

edge doesn't recognize the icon coding that IE, Safari, and Chrome do.

A:Edge browser pins ... no favicon

Hi eternalozzie,

Thank you for your question.

We could refer to the following steps to achieve it:

 1.       Type ?Edge? in Search table
 2.       Right click ?Microsoft Edge? and choose ?pin to Start?
If the above steps didn?t work, we could run ?SFC /ScanNow? to check if there are errors.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Hi, I have broken/bent about 6 pins on my mobo. Its an MSI Diamond P4n mobo and the pins in question are on the mobo its self not the CPU (just to clear that up).

Does anyone know if there is a way or a company that will fix this? if its possible to. I have e-mailed MSI but have had no responce and as for buying a new mobo, the one in question is discontiued and I cant find one any where.

But if anyone can recomend a mobo to fit my spec or a resolve to my problem I would be very grateful.

P4 64bit HT LGA775
nVidia 8800GTS x 2
WD 500GB SATA
Corsair DXS x 4GB

Thanks!

Hi,

I just have a quick question regarding SPDIF connection (from MB to Graphics card).

Which, of the three pins on my MB, are the two that need connecting?

The three being, Ground, SPDIFO and Power.

I think I currently have the ground connected and the Power connected, as that what it says in the MB manual. Is this right though?

I assume this rule is universal but, if not, my graphics card is a 9800 GT NVIDIA and my MB is a GA-G31M-S2L, Gigabyte.

Thanks
Mark

Hi I am trying to recover some data from a laptop HDD - I already have a caddy but when I remove the HDD from the laptop the connectors are different - (Not SATA V IDE) - it is an IDE but it has different shaped pins to what my caddy will accept ?

Any Ideas what type of caddy I would need to buy - to be able to access this data

A:Dell Latitude D600 pins on HDD

You need a caddy/adapter that includes a 2.5" IDE (laptop) connector.Yours probably only has 3.5 (desktop)
Some have connectors for all hard drive types - IDE,SATA 2.5,3.5

Does anyone know exactly what the pins are that fit into the MB jumpers and USB/Firewire headers? I need to fabricate some with wire leads but don't know what standard, spacing, crimps, etc. these are called and what they use.

A:USB/Firewire/Jumper pins-what specifications?

AFAIK there are no standards apart from wire colours. The spacing and pin size are usually the same used all over the board. E.g. the common 100mil-spaced pins or some other "standard" plug.

It really makes no difference what connector you use on the board side.

An experienced user on my forum came up with this site to replace those awful pushpin fasteners on the Intel Socket 775 heat synch/fan...replace them for $2. You know the ones that split and break if you remove it too many times....

Ok, long story, but my procesrror had a slight drop, and bent a few pins. i managed to get all of them straightened, bar 2, which fell off.....

Now i can run my laptop in battery power mode and it will work fine, but only at 913mhz.

I take it the battery power mode uses less pins, cos when i put it on ac power mode the laptop just freezes (it usually goes to 2.8ghz).

This leaves me wondering if there is a way to disable data transfer through these 2 pins so the laptop will run at near full speed instead of chugging along at this slooooow pace.

Any help will, of course, be greatly appreciated!!

A:Messed up my processor... any way to disable pins?

No. If you broke pins on the cpu, the only thing you can do is replace it. I have heard of guys being successful reattaching the pins with something like crazy glue however I have never done so.
